Last week I gave Suikoden 2 a whirl, damn was it good, I really liked Suikoden 1 but missed Suikoden 2 back in the days.
Anyways, on the menu for this week is Alundra. I owned this game back in the day and had fond memories of it. I know I never finished it and found it to be very hard back in the days, even if I recall finding it very enjoyable. This turned out to be a real gem as well, it's like The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past with an interesting story, harder puzzles, arguably better music, and a small dose of platforming. Overall I'd rank it as a straight up better game than The Legend of Zelda: A link to the Past, even if I find that one to be the best in the entire Zelda series.
Would be neat to have some retro discussion on the PSX days. I was afraid that the games wouldn't have aged very well, but I'm happy to say that both of these 2 haven't lost a thing and rank somewhere at the top of best games I've played for years. I'm going to be bold and say that PSX probably have better RPGs than the SNES.

Yeah I love my PSX. I still have all my games for that SOB. Alundra was in fact awesome as hell. You need to track down a copy of silent bomber...that was a really good game that got no play whatsoever...

Yea, Bushido Blade was fun if you had someone who wanted to get good at it, but it wasn't a particularly deep or balanced fighter. I actually liked R-Type Delta more than Einhander, although Einhander was really good.

Where'd you find Suikoden 2 at? I kept hearing about that game over and over and I could never find the damn thing.
Busido Blade roxorz if you like fighters but aren't terribly fond of the Hitpoint/ energy bars and supercombos of more modern games.

i just remember playing bushido blade with a couple friends were we would do best out of 100 matches. got to the point where we would spend more time standing waiting for the other guy to make a wrong move then actually mashing buttons. felt very much like an old kurasawa film. but yeah the game isn't much fun without the friends to play "samurai" with.

Bushido Blade was pure win. I'm sure it wasn't balanced in the way "Street Fighter 2 iteration #4398 with differences only semiprofessional gamers in Southeast Asian video arcades will even notice" would be, but it was just fucking cool. The first time I stabbed a guy in the neck and he just fell over dead on the first blow was a revelation.

Either he was REALLY lucky and found some idiot at a used game store who was selling it for cheap, or he mortgaged his soul for it over ebay. I have only seen a used copy of it once, and that was for something like $250

Lets just say that I had problems tracking it down as well, and that there's a certain program which lets you play back ups in very much the same way the majority of you probably have tried playing back up SNES games on your computer back in the days :P . Imagine this, all the games to the PSX which was above decent on PSN for $10 a piece with awesome up scaling on your PS3 + 1 achievement per game when you finish them, instant win? The only problem I see is working out all the licensing issues, but I don't see why any company wouldn't like the possibility to earn some $$$.

Wouldn't be so problematic to play Suikoden 2 if Sony/Konami weren't being enormous fuckheads by not localising the Suikoden 1+2 pack they have from the PSP, or for that matter releasing either them on more than just the japanese PSN. Fucking cocksuckers.
I'd say check out Jumping Flash 2 and Brave Fencer Musashiden. I always thought Vandal Hearts was pretty fun, but I'm sure it hasn't aged well at all. If you can, check out Grandia. Probably one of the best used-game finds I ever made.

OOoh, yeah Brave Fencer Musashi (the Americanized version.) That was a good game, I wish I'd finished it but then FFX came out...

Two copies of BB? :P The second was complete shit and quite possibly the most disappointing sequel ever.

Forgot about Fade to Black. That was one of the first psx games I bought and I still remember being frustrated with some of the deaths in it.
Poy Poy is a must if you can get your multiplayer on.

Colony Wars. All of them. Disrupter. Brave Fencer Musashi. Castlevania: Symphony of the Night and Chronicles. Bloody Roar I and II. Dead or Alive. Tekken 2 and 3. Toshinden 2. Chocobo's Dungeon 2 Ghost in the Shell. Soul Blade Rival Schools. Elemental Gearbolt. Evil Zone. Vampire Hunter D. Vs.
The wife's favorite is still Super Puzzle Fighter 2 Turbo. Or as she likes to refer to it, 'Puzzy'.
I have others but the above are the favs.

I'd really recommend you track down Torneko and forget about Chocobo's Dungeon forever.

For the Colony Wars games, make sure you like hard games before commiting to Colony Wars: Vengeance. Very fun, but very hard.

Not sure how well Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain has aged, but Parappa the Rapper is still entertaining.

Naw, rival schools ont he DC vs the psx was way different. Project Justice was a sequel and played differently. Rival Schools was just way too damn good. And THPS2 on the DC was good, but I would rather play the PSX version. controller was better and it was tourney standard.
