Looks like Gods and Heroes will be joining the cool kids (and by cool kids I mean failed P2P MMOs) by going F2P. For now, it will cost $9.99 for the game itself but with no subscription fees. The fee will be in place until they fully go f2p, whenever that will be. So, right now its essentially B2P like Guild Wars but will be going full F2P sometime in the near future.
When I played it in beta, it didn't suck, but it didn't trip my trigger. I think I got to level 5 and never logged in again. It's diku with every class being a pet class and a Greek/Roman mythology setting. I've played much worse, but I've played better.
It's a MMO that was built 5-odd years ago, but then Perpetual folded and Heatwave comes along a few years later to pick it up. G&H was dated 5 years ago - I was in the original beta for it - but Heatwave probably thought that picking up an almost-complete MMO would be a cheap way of entering the sub market. However, it obviously needed a lot more work than they planned on and it was practically invisible in the market.
So this switch to box cost plus a later RMT shop is probably the last stand of the title - it may very well go into maintenance mode after this.
