Honestly. I still kinda want to set this up as a server. But I've yet to speak to a single person with such experience.
That's... bothersome to me.

What experience? Setting up the server for this game?

I picked up the original when it first came out, and play it from time to time.
While clearly an indi effort, it manages to capture the classic EQ feel very well, and there are some pretty interesting game systems under the hood.
Graphics (level design, modelling and animation) are a mixed bag and are crude by modern standards, and with the exception of the music, the few sounds in the game need a complete overhaul to immerse the player better.
I wasn't aware that they were working on an expansion pack, thanks for the link; I'll definately be checking this out.

Prove it.
For one, you can play as the monsters. And its completely mod able by the users. Can be single player. Ill try to find a feature list, there are some very unique elements to this game.

The screenshots on their site look very similar to EQ 1 but that's not necessarily a bad thing if there are some interesting gameplay features. What their site seems to lack is a basic description of the game or FAQ. What's this stuff about setting up your own server and modding it? Is this like a Neverwinter Nights thing, but with a persistent world module included in the package? Does it have a reasonably simple world editor, the ability to redraw maps and a scripting language? Or does hosting your own server basically mean hosting the game as they made it unless you have professional programming skills? Perhaps this stuff all explained if you search around enough, but I haven't found it yet.
Looks interesting though.

I always had in interest in this game, just because you can host your own server and the singleplayer aspect.
I was always disappointed by the game proper though.

But that Captain's salami tray was tight, yo. You plump for the roast pork loin, dogg?

It's built on Torque, has all the ability to mod that is stock from that, plus he's included bindings for Lua (or was it Python?), and a ton of other capabilities. It's about the closest to "make my MMO" you're going to find without several million to invest in engine/architecture technology. Pretty sure it still has a trial period/free demo, I'd suggest just giving it a shot ;)

I played it for a bit. I liked it, too. I think might be a fun one for f13 to host. It's not the epitome of fantasy mmo gaming but it's rather good fun.

I forgot to add... it's got a really old fashioned, naff character creation which annoys me.
Also, I looked and there's still a free demo version.

I'm in! Oooo Grandizer! Nice! One of my favorite Shoguns :) The Shogun Warriors were my version of Pokemon in the '70's. Had to have them all. In every size. And Die Cast Metal FTFW. Ok, I'm done. Back to the thread. MoM is one of those games I have hopes for in that someday I'll be able to set up my own little Muh-Morp-Gah and have friends play on it. I had hopes for another game called Fantasy Lord but so far that's been vaporware for years now on ensigngames.com.

Damnit Nonentity. I was in the middle of a cough as I scrolled down to see that picture and nearly died trying to stifle my laughter amidst the cough.

Yeah, really. Understand though, the game was announced quite a few years ago so it seemed more promising then than now. It was/is being developed by one of the fellows that worked on Shattered Light which was sort've like Ultima Online Lite. Yeah, the screenshot is nothing great but it was as close to a personal EQ sandbox as anyone was gonna get back then. Plus, it was supposed to be free. So, yeah. Really.

Not only is is moddable, but you can get the entire code for free*
(well if you have a copy of TGE (older Torque game engine) and AFX (the Arcane Spell effects package))
You can dl the code and make your own mmo using MoM as the shell. Scripting work can be done in Python.
