Link to the video.

Downloading the 720p(65mb) is worth it.

Looks sweet.

Indeed. The BSG music suits it pretty well too.

Jumpgate is going to have actual ship controls, more like x-wing vs. tie fighter and less like eve?

Because that would make me happy in my pants.

Remember SWG JtL.

I don't know. I would like it to be succesful, but I wonder if the internet is fast enough all over the world to support a game like that without blowing lag-killing solutions. I really hope so, though.

I loved JTL, I think they did an outstanding job incorporating the ground game crafting into as well, (pre cu/nge, i quit just before the cu)

Hell, if Sony would release JTL all by its lonesome, I'd play it, I bet alot of others are with me too.  Eve pewpew is alot of fun, but it doesn't compare with the feeling you get in a dogfight, running in behind some poor sob and BLAMMO!!!!

Fuck, someone stop me before I resub to SWG.

Yes! Without the over-reliance on the ground game in JTL, I'd probably still be playing it. And that tech was launched 3 1/2 years ago. Nowadays with even more bandwidth?

To me this isn't about the graphics. Heck, I'm still playing Freespace 2 open source.

More like XvT than Eve, but not to that degree if they keep the flight system they have in current JG. I'd like to see them add different weapons, rotating energy allocation, shield management and sub-system targeting. But I want an actiony space game just enough to simply hope for joystick control that makes a difference.

See, I actually liked the reliance on the ground game.  Well, not that is was the "ground game" but that different crafters could actually brand their shit for a reason, you bought your engines from bob because his were the best, and some other guy made the best guns, etc, etc.

I'm sure people will argue until they're blue in the face that crafting should be a purely competitive market, but I don't, Eve would be a much better game if there was some competition outside of price and location. (assuming of course that resources weren't static like they currently are, allowing someone to grab the best and always have it for no other reason than they were first)

Lemme clarify that "ground game" comment, because I agree with you.

For me, the "reliance" part of JTL felt forced because you were always forced to go to ground for everything from quests to trade to cantinas. Meanwhile, you just docked with this bigass space station, any one of which in the game could, due to size alone, house the entire population of SWG at its peak. Vendor stalls, Bazaar terminals, drop transfers in space, and a telephone to call in my quest turn-ins (except for the subversive elements that like the face-to-face stuff). Still gives all benefits to the ground game, where this stuff originates. Just doesn't require I go to the planet surface if I don't feel like ever doing so.

That's the one area of concern I have with Eve. Will you need to actually walk around a station in order to conduct the business you usually do the moment after your ship pops into the hangar?

Thankfully, JG:E seems to be about as much in space as JG (and current Eve).

2 modes of flight. Newtonian (Like the real world), and "Assisted" flight (more like atmospheric). Each have strengths and weaknesses. But you can toggle between the two with a button press.

No, from what i read about eves avatar system, you will still be able to do everything through the UI like now. The avatars are really just cosmetic, and are for socialization, but you will be able to "Visit" the different station facility's to a point and do things that way if you prefer, it should also add things like corp meting halls and whatnot..

Found another one in youtube from the Connect08.

And another that seems to be part of the bulk of the presentation, little-bit-o-power point, and some discussion, and in game..around 9 min.

I really hope the guy in that first video just sucks at playing... because that gameplay was hard to watch.  But, it would be very fun to be able to get back into a space game where you can turn 180 degrees and shoot what is following you, or strafe large/imobile targets.  Wing Commander memories abound.

I wanna see flak and capital-sized beams hacking away, a la Freespace 2.  Those pew pew balls that capital / station thing was shooting were kinda cheesy.

Yes! Why is it we can't get more beam weapons? I mean seriously, some of the Xwing v Tie Fighter stuff that came out after Freespace 2 didn't have it. It can't be harder than tracking in realtime scores of missiles and bolts.

Ahahaha, yeah, and the names of the stick men were "maverick" "iceman" and "wedge" . lol

The ship they are going to save is "liberty" ala Freelancer.

I like that this vid is a direct challenge to other "Space" games out right now.

The plan so far is no.

It's just stupid fluff wasting everyone's time.

Doesn't anyone else hate this kind of camera? Where it looks like your spaceship is stationary in a vacuum, and everything else is moving to/from you? Eve does the same thing.

I grew up playing Elite and I enjoyed the Freespace and Wing Commander games. It felt like I was travelling through space. There hasn't been a space game that gave this impression since Freelancer (which I didn't much care for).

Space as a realistic vacuum is boring. For a game, I reckon it's OK to have things like visible dust or coloured gas clouds that give you a reference point when moving. It needn't detract from simulating inertia and weightlessness. And also have more objects in space - busier ship traffic (it's the far future, space is still big but there are plenty of cargo ships and pirates, and their debris).

Yeah, and joystick control. Ducking, weaving, fast combat with heavy weapons.

Original JG had joystick/flightstick controls. I'm pretty sure they'll end up keeping that option. Overall, I agree with you. It feels so damn empty except for the major hubs, but I can't imagine how they would go about filling in space without building up some kind of backstory to why there's so much of X in space.

Classes... levels... and the guy in the video is a douche. The only thing that even vaguely interests me about JGE is twitch combat.

"I'm really excited about levels..."

"I'm a big fan of not forcing the user to pay $5000 for a new computer..."

Asshole.
