Not sure if these are the dual-gpu cards everyone's been buzzing about but the 65 and 55nm processing sounds like the specs that were being hyped for the Teraflop processing beast everyone thought was the G92 (which turned out to just be the 8800GT). Teraflop = 3x the power of the 8800 series card. Pretty sweet. [Friday 30 November 2007]
Nvidia is ready for its next-generation GPU launch. According to sources at graphics card makers, the company plans to launch its GeForce 9 series GPU after the Lunar New Year in February.
The first chip to rollout of in GeForce 9 family will be the D9E, a high-end product that adopts 65nm manufacturing. The new product will also support DirectX 10.1 and Shader Model 4.1, revealed the sources.
In addition to the D9E, Nvidia will roll out a mid-range GeForce 9 family product named D9P in June 2008. The new GPU will adopt 55nm processing, the sources pointed out. Spotted at DigiTimesLatest news Monica Chen, Taipei; Emily Chuang, DIGITIMES

I know... the price of good graphics cards are silly. Having said that, I buy a cheapo computer with a modicum of processing speed, throw in a few gig or so of cheap ram, and a top of the line, pricey graphics card and I can run any game I buy at high settings for well under $1K. I know it's true because I'm doing it right now!

What's really blowing my mind is the new Intell Skulltrail motherboard system
Dual CPUs - accepting dual and quad core processors Quad slots for graphics cards
So let's think about that...
2 cpus x 4 cores each = 8 cores at 3.5 Ghz (new chip getting up to 5 Ghz with watercooling) 4 graphics cards x 2 gpus each = 8 gpus
8 cores and 8 gpus? That's insane!

I just ordered an 8800GT because Dell had a deal where you could get one from their accessory website for $200. If these are priced at $400+ then I'm not too interested.

As someone who has an awesome computer full of win, I think I'm past the bleeding edge bandwagon. Going to start building last year's computers and buying 2-yr old games. Going to start rocking like it's 2005.
Ok, so I really want a Gretsch that's $3500. We won't talk about amps.

I'm interested in what this will do to the 8800 price point.

I'm interested in what this will do to the 8800 price point. Probably not much since I imagine the first 9 series will be the ultra-expensive model and the vaguely less expensive semi-ultra model. The 8800GT's surprisingly low price point makes me believe there won't be too much of a change in the 8800 line. They'll probably just stop producing the 8800GTX/Ultra models.

I don't see why they release new hardware Q1/Q2 when there isn't anything coming out worth playing.
I'm going to ride the 8800 GTS train for another year or so and take a look at video cards this time next year. People picking up 8800 GTs shouldn't be looking to buy a new video card until Q3/Q4 2009.
Then again, there will probably be a rushed Crysis expansion by summer time, adding another thrilling 4 hours of gameplay to the original 11.
Dunno. Jaded. TF2 keeps me sane.

This was my first thought. The 7900GS is growing a beard. As for why release, last I bothered to follow this shit there was a hard six-month refresh cycle on graphics cards. February seems a tad early but it's inside the first half of 08.

It'll be something like: 9800 GTX - $699 (just to embarrass AMD even more) 9800 GT - $499 - $599 (depending on memory) 8800 GTXY - $299 - $399 (either a souped up 8800 GTX or a souped up 8800 GT) 8800 GT - $199 - $250 (that's supposed to be the current price but isn't because of pricing gouging)

I'm using a 9800 series card RIGHT NOW AT THIS MOMENT. In your face bleeding edge peoples! Also whats all the fucking hype with vid cards? I am actually using a 9800 in my pc and playing any game I please. Hellgate ran fine at 1920x1080 with high/mid settings. Sure directX 10 is supposed to be pretty but DEAR GOD I am not getting Vi$ta. Would you even see any improvement with these twicethepriceofa360 cards under good old DirectX9?

Someone show this man the DX9 vs. DX10 comparisons. Oh wait. I will. Yes. Volumetric lighting and some particle effects can be tweaked on DX9 to be similar, but not nearly as well. DX10 is totally worth it. And even though DX 10.1 is just a point release, word is that mixed with Shader 4.1 its even better. While nothing makes up for truly terrible gameplay, beautiful graphics are a wonder to behold. Hell, i remember exploring Morrowind when that was the bleeding edge of graphics and getting highly immersed. The 8800GT's are $250-300 right now and in about 6 months should be approx $200. Not bad when the top-o-the-line is $700-800. I'm going to get at least one of the medium-high cards when they come out. The model just under the most expensive. History shows you can OC them to just as good as the top ones.

The second shot has been debunked as a fake, the dx10 is an 'artists rendition' of what dx10 will be. Also, a lot of touted dx10 features are available in dx9 but disabled by devs. Check out this page for differences in dx9 v dx10, especially the shot way down the page where they hack in very high settings under dx9 and remove the artificial limits that were added to the dx9 version. Dx10 will be great eventually. After there is a large install base of Vista + dx10.1 cards. Right now it's a spit-polish on games developed for dx9 hardware. That said, my Yes above refers to the fact that my 8800gtx beats the snot out of my old 9800pro when it comes to dx9 content. Worth the money? Eh, I don't play that game, it's never "worth" what you spend on pc gaming. Dollars to donuts sez buy a PS2. Here's the real comparison of Flight Sim X: From: http://ve3d.ign.com/articles/news/34650/Flight-Sim-X-DX9-vs-DX10

Yeah...you buy a card for the sake of fun not out of need. Cost comparisons help though to help people gauge where they are on the graphics-whore continuum.
Wonder where graphics will be in another 10 years?
