They were a large-scale Ventrilo server hosting company. A lot of endgame guilds rented servers from them, and then suddenly were exposed to an unexpected benefit to having built-in VOIP in WoW.

Probably one of the only reasons in fact. I mean look at our Teamspeak server, sure it'll get Hellgate use, but it's useless for TF2.

My guild's vent got shut down because of this, even worse the message board was also at nrg... You should never go with the cheapest solution for your technology needs.

A lot of my friend's servers went down as well. My guild and a CS clan I was in a long time ago both used NRG servers and switched out recently due to problems with NRG a long time ago.
