So yea, I havent played a racing game since PS2, and I've needed a fix for a while. I'm looking for some customization, but nothing as deep as Gran Turismo, with a free roam mode if possible. Are any of the new ones any good (Juiced2, NFS Pro Street, etc)? If not, an old game is fine too.

The NFS Pro Street Demo is up on Live now, so you could check that out. Most Wanted wasn't too bad at all, but I'd probably give Carbon a miss. Other options: Test Drive Unlimited might be what you're looking for but I didn't like the driving physics at all in that game - even judging it as a 'arcade racer', it didn't do it for me. PGR3/4 are great arcade racers, but no customization or free roam.

I had a lot of fun with NFS: Most Wanted.

I've been in the hunt for a good driving game as well. I'm itching to buy one of these to go along with one.

The only racing games I can really get in to are Burnout. I had a great deal of fun with Burnout: Revenge, but its very arcadey, Im not a huge fan of realistic racing games. I do own NFS: Carbon, but it seems overly complicated, and its a bit hard for my racing skill level. I think I may have put 3 hours in to it.

Now THAT looks good. Hows the online play? Is it a driving sim or arcadish driving?

The controls are just fantastic though. Even someone like myself that is terrible at driving games was able to have a lot of fun with it.

Driving is sim, but you can turn on a bunch of cheats if you like to make it easier and more arcady. I've done a bit online and quite enjoyed it, very easy to setup and get in a race. Do some digging back for the original thread on it here, and see all of the love.
