Just picked this gem up at blockbuster earlier, and I've got to say, I was pleasantly surprised.
I was expecting a god of war knockoff, and while it failed to deliver that miserably, what with the horribly executed combos, lack of any gore, poorly implemented "hit this key or watch the same cutscene FOREVER, BITCH!", it was alot of fun to play.
Not the actual game though, oh no, the soul crushing hack-n-slash with mobs that apparently have more HPs than the bosses do, the ones that block every single fucking attack, no matter how l33t your combo, the story that tried to make sense, but yet again, fell short. Even all of those things couldn't ruin my fun.
Six.Axis.Shooting.People.In.The.Balls
You give two grown men a game with projectiles, and they'll shoot things in the balls with it. Make that game have slow-motion arrow-camera controlled by your six axis controller and you've got win. Testicular piercing win.
Oh, and cannonballs, catapults with huge glowing targets, and people hiding behind giant barrels of explosives.
I'm going out and buying a Wii, at least then the soul crushing horrible gameplay will involve me jerking the controller around in awkward positions while laughing hysterically.

PA said it better than I will. Not that I played it for more than 2 minutes at friend's place. Don't want to be catching 'teh console'.

I thought the combat system was just fine. But then, I submitted myself to things like Blood Will Tell, Samurai Western, Bujingai, Nightshade, Shinobi, etc during the PS2 era. And while I liked all of them, you could feel them dripping with discount gaming. Heavenly Sword didn't feel like that.

It just felt kind of clunky, waiting until an attack finishes before you can execute the next one in the combo annoyed the piss out of me. If im going to do square square triangle square, I want to do it in a flurry of buttonmashing all at once, then sit back and watch my british-japanese avatar rape some face.
Which reminds me..Was she asian? English? It seems like they really couldn't make up their minds until the very end, where she did look quite asian on the bed of flowers.
Hopefully PS3 designers will take some cues from the success of the Wii and start doing more games controlled by the sixaxis. The Kai levels were money, I'm playing thru it again on Hell mode just to do those levels.

FIrst thing I did was turn off the six-axis. And there's a lot of neat cancellation and chaining you can do with the attacks.

No lie.

The combat system wasn't bad at all. The "puzzle" parts were sloppy and uninspired. How about mixing it up? I guess requiring people to aftertouch objects through rings or multiple holes in walls would be too much. Also, sixasis as far as I can tell is utterly worthless. I have hated it in every game except flow. Plus, the "Press X to not die" thing is getting pretty old. And this game is so frustrating with it's load times. You want me to retry sections over and over until I get 3 stars, but you make me wait 45 seconds between tries. WTF? Also, this was pretty accurate, as long as you don't mind giving them traffic. You've obviously seen it, based on the title of the thread.

I only played it for 5-10 minutes. Bottom line: it wasn't fun.

I can't imagine this game being fun without the six-axis, the aftertouch levels were the most fun imho. The chaining is cool, the cancellation/counterattack shit is awful. "Press nothing to block, no, wait, hes red, press r1 to block, but theres a blue guy, you're fucked now!" 1v1 the counterattack thing can be neat, get 6 opponents on you doing combinations of speed/power attacks, and you can't block anymore, you can either evade and button mush or die. The final boss fight is more annoying than difficult, those damn wings block what color he is so you can't properly block/counter him. Those are just the gameplay issues, the plot deserves more bitching than I've got the energy for right now.
