Anyone have one of these? How much can you talk about? I have a friend who wants to hook me up with a job, simply because I've been using linux and unix for about almost 15 years now -- but I'd be better off with this cert. Thing is, he might be making too much of it. I've never really messed around much on the server angle (out of home). I just know my way around workstations. Am I not cut out for it? I've heard the exams are tough. I don't want to take them multiple times either.

I just have the IBM variants, no idea about the Redhatty ones, but if they are at all similar then 15 years of unix/linux will get you through it.  Still, for any test, you will want to get either some sort of study guide or an old test.  It's not so much about getting the right answers as it is about getting the answers that the testers want to see.

Hmm, right answers. The first half of the test is written, and I'm sure I'd be fine with that. The part that a lot of people fail (I think the passing average is less than 40%) is the hands on stuff. I'm just not sure what they're doing or if there's NDA's about it. Why the hell are so many failing?

Only guessing, but it is probably due to the number of rank amateurs attempting to break into corporate IT.  Probably some great linux users or power users, but you don't get the break-fix experience running your own PC.  This is comparable to Windows, I believe, since I have owned a PC since DOS 5 at least but I still would not be up-to-speed with the Windows team here at work.

We have a couple Redhat servers doing god-knows-what, I will see if we have anything about a cert.  No guarantees, management doesn't care about certs for current employees, and neither do we for that matter.

We have zippo for it other than what is in the RH cert booklet.  IBM offers sample exams and even a test simulator (topcat), so my only suggestion is to comb RH's web site.  Sorry.

They seem to want to just pimp out all of their training courses their site. Although they do have a brief preassessment test there as well -- I scored OK on it, but it was just asking standard Unix questions more than anything else.

Anyways thanks.

Browse the books on Amazon and see if there's anything there that looks helpful.
