I bought a Gateway MT3422 laptop for my wife today. For her needs it's perfect. However, it's got Vista which...sucks...
I've done a fresh install of XP home, but am in need of drivers. Gateway's website is a nogo, as everything is for Vista. Am I screwed for XP?
Drivers not installed: + Coprocessor + Ethernet contoller + Other PCI bridge device + PCI device + SM Bus controller + Video controller (VGA combatable)
If I can just get it online, I should be good from there. It boots to desktop fine, the keyboard, mousepad, and screen all work. No sound. No internet. Have internet, but wireless and sound still do not work. Whenever I try to install the Realtek drivers for the wireless, I get "Sorry! We do not support this operating system" even though I downloaded the XP drivers. Possible Vista only hardware, if such a thing exists for this laptop?
OK. So with the help of taolurker, I'm down to only needing sound. Wireless is working. Everything is working perfectly (at this point) except sound.

Well, I'm guessing the advice I provided for the sound didn't work?
Hmm, ok back to searching for answers.. Now with more beer and less football games to watch in the background.

Got it! Retried it, and it worked.
Thanks, Tao!
