So umm..is emulation a bad thing for out of print games for discontinued systems? I'm really jonesing for Dark Wizard now that I talked about it in this thread.

Man seeing all you guys talk about the genesis and bring up all these random ass games...It just goes to show how badass that system really was. Anyway, I am going to need to pick up this boxing game you guys are talking about, it just sounds too good.  I actually enjoyed Toughman Contest. It was no Punchout Killer but it was a fun game.

I just went back and played that yesterday.  I was cruising along, demolishing people.  I mean, really savaging people.  I went from 30th place (last) to 13th with all first round knockouts.  But at about 20th place, I staretd getting cocky, and skipping 3 ranks ahead (the highest rank challenger you can face at any one time is 3 ranks above you) until I just got SERVED when I tried to crack the top ten.  All the boxing scripts were easy to handle/I remembered them/figured them out/etc. until then.  Man, I really got worked over.  Quit the game in frustration and busted one of my controllers.  Pretty intense.

You might want to be careful about Dark Wizard.  It was the first game I bought for Sega CD and I played the hell out of it, but I tried it again about two years ago and it didn't hold up well at all.  That said, it still holds up better than almost anything else from that system, so go ahead!

In the meantime, I'll say it again.  Langrisser, anybody?

Yeah that game was a nightmare at the harder levels. Those guys were just mean. I enjoyed that game. I may go back and play it a little more. I really liked all the silly power moves and whatnot. Wasn't there 2 player support on that???

How could I forget Road Rash 2? When I was 9 or so I figured out a way to get free bikes; something about choosing whichever bike you wanted in multiplayer, and going back to singleplayer mode.

Yeah, 2 player.  Much more fun.  Also, there was really only an upeprcut.  Jabs, hooks, uppercuts.  That's it.  Greatest Heavyweights of The Ring baby.

The AI in Greatest Heavyweights was just murder.  It wasn't simple Punch-Out "block high when he wiggles his eyebrows" stuff, and it wasn't terribly predictable.  I made a really tall fighter, and learned how to time a jab just right.

So, I find my Genesis, my Sega CD and probably about 20-30 games for both. But I have no cable to connect the Genesis to the TV. I have everything else including controllers and power supplies but no TV cable. And of course, like most consoles, it doesn't use a standard cable, I need one with their "end" on it. I looked at Amazon and I can buy cables, but to be honest, I don't remember exactly which model Genesis I have.

If you have a 32x and a Sega CD connected to it then it is either this one,
http://content.answers.com/main/content/wp/en-commons/thumb/2/2e/250px-Sega_Genesis_original_model.jpg
or this one
http://i21.ebayimg.com/04/s/07/25/68/47_2.JPG

The first one is a model 1, that one can use the old NES style RF or AV (this model does not output stereo through AV, you need to route via the headphone jack).

The second one is a model 2. That one uses a different RF/AV, this one does output to stereo sound.

They look like this.

They go on Ebay for about 7-10 buckaroos.

It's the model two. It has some kind of propietary plug in the back for video and seperate red and white for audio.

Yeah, Amazon is sending it to me. Then I'll find out if my Sega CD has survived the last decade packed away.

I have:

Jurassic Park
Shining Force
Dark Wizard
The Terminator
That sewer shark one
Wing Commander
Vay
Popful mail
some cheesy mech game
Star Wars: Rebel Assault
Power Monger
Mortal Combat

Holly crap, I got The Lion King in the mail today. That game was just a goddamn solid piece of work. Seriously, damn well done for its time, and still fun and even pretty now.  cry I wish I would have played it when I was a kid.

I played it when I was a kid. Also, Power Rangers is a half-decent fighting game. Aladdin is fun too.

I hooked mine to the TV with the cable from an old NES.  I just went and looked to make sure I wasn't misremembering.

Am I the only person here with an actual copy of Snatcher? ...nevermind I seem to have misplaced it, which upsets me.

I think I may have 2 copies of Snatcher, one complete the other loose. That game is fantastic. Hope that they port that to the DS, that would be awesome.

I got a few new games this weekend, I was in Tucson, AZ and found some nice stuff at the Bookmans.

-Alien Storm
A pretty damn decent sci-fi beat'em'up.  the arcade version was better but this is a solid port, 2 player co-op and duel modes, the game plays pretty well for how old it is. It oozes Sega style action. It seems to have a lot of Golden Axe syle running mechanics and animations and it fights pretty well. I like this game a lot.

-Wolverine Adamantium Rage
I picked this up cause it was complete and I played it when I was a kid. Pretty good side scroller/action game. lots of moves and crap, pretty well done.

- Junction
Random puzzle game. I have been looking for more puzzle games for the genesis and have seen that the selection is very small.
this game is kinda a pipe dream style game with some weird special pieces and enemies. It is pretty decent. If I was good at it I am sure I would like it more.

-Championship Pro-Am
Self explanatory. I thought I already owned this game, but I could not find it so I bought another one. This is a good racing game. Damn well done.

-Mega Bomberman
Yeah I was surprised I found it too. $10 no less...Anyway this game owns my goddamn face right the fuck off. It, in my opinion, is the best Bomberman game second only to Saturn Bomberman. It is really, really good.

-Greatest Heavyweights
Got this puppy with a box and book for $3. I liked it a lot. I already made a character and am getting into the career mode. This is a pretty damn good boxing game. Thanks for the recomendation.

The main list on page 1 was updated.

well it rounds out the marvel collection on the system. It was not as good as a lot of stuff out there, but it is by no means god awful.

All I need at this point is Punisher. Lucky for me that game owns my face.

I got my new AV cord and hooked it up and after a decade or so in storage my Genesis and Sega CD still work. Dark Wizard here I come! My daughter loves Popful Mail but finds it too hard for her so ends up handing me the controller. (to be fair she is 8.)

Yeah, back in the day my friend and I would try to see who could have the greatest boxer.  Basically, who could get to number 1, and then defeat all the legends in the quickest amount of time, (fewest career fights) fewest losses, and have the most purse money.  Good times.  Once you start trying to zip through the standings without losing, it takes the challenge to another level.

Last time I played through, my guy finished at 47-0 after beating all the legends.  I'd have gone for 50-0 just to have one up on Marciano's record, but you have to win the title by your 40th fight or the game auto-retires you.  So with that in mind, here are a few pointers.

A)  Choose the tallest of the three builds at character creation.  It has the longest reach, and that's critical.

B)  Against the two-thirds of fighters who are shorter than you, put up a wall of jabs and don't ever let them through.  High and low, left and right, just keep jabbing.  Most of them will be blocked, but they'll keep your opponent on the outside where he can't hit back.  From there you can watch what lands and search for a pattern at your leisure.  Work in harder punches where you can, but be prepared to win on your jab alone if you have to.

C)  Against guys your own size... well... this is where you have to learn to really fight.  In general, engage from as far away as possible, and keep throwing shitloads of jabs.  If you go charging forward looking to land hooks and uppercuts, a tall opponent on the high end of the difficulty scale will usually whip you so badly on the way in that it's just not worth it.

D)  You can get all the way to the championship without fighting a tall guy if you're willing to shamelessly duck them, but I don't recommend it.  Sooner or later you'll have to fight Larry Holmes, and he'll fuck you up if you don't know how to fight without a reach advantage.  In fact, fighting Holmes in exhibition mode until you get the hang of it is probably a good idea.

E)  Never let the opponent get away with a taunt.  Hit them with a hook to the body while they're talking.  This adds up, especially against jaw-flappers like Ali and some of the fictional guys.

I used to make tall guys, but now I get real and make short or medium guys.  They look less like dufuses and it's more of a challenge.

It would be different if the other two builds had anything to compensate.  As it is, it's tall, gimpy, and more gimpy.
