Title: Co-Op on PC Post by: Yoru on November 27, 2006, 03:49:14 PM So over the weekend I got the hankering for some co-op gameplay for the PC and kind of realized how badly there's a dearth of this sort of thing. I found a number of titles, most of which are pretty old or difficult to obtain. Hence, I'm asking you guys if you know of any awesome moderately-modern co-opness.
Stuff I found/played/tried to play: * Diablo I/II - duh * Marathon I/II/etc. (opensource/free!) * Sacrifice (co-op multiplayer via teams vs. computers - most any RTS can do this though) * Lots and lots of MAME games * System Shock 2 - couldn't get it to work though * Half-Life 1/Sven Co-op So... what am I missing? Title: Re: Co-Op on PC Post by: Viin on November 27, 2006, 03:55:17 PM I like the Rainbow Six games for coop (Ghost Recon, etc).
Title: Re: Co-Op on PC Post by: Morfiend on November 27, 2006, 03:58:43 PM GRAW has the worst coop ever. If the number one guy dies, mission over. That shit sucks.
Go buy a 360. Title: Re: Co-Op on PC Post by: Morfiend on November 27, 2006, 04:00:00 PM Oh yeah. The NWN series. Thats decent, if slow, co-op.
Also Titan Quest. Title: Re: Co-Op on PC Post by: Krakrok on November 27, 2006, 04:06:15 PM Guild Wars. Halo. Warcraft III with some of the maps like tower attack or the RPG maps.
Title: Re: Co-Op on PC Post by: Yoru on November 27, 2006, 04:25:19 PM Oh yeah. The NWN series. Thats decent, if slow, co-op. Also Titan Quest. Mm, I have both of those, just forgot to mention them. Also BG1/BG2/IWD1/IWD2 have co-op, although those really requires being in the same room to properly coordinate, I find. GRAW has the worst coop ever. If the number one guy dies, mission over. That shit sucks. Go buy a 360. The hell is GRAW? And I was expecting Schild to be the first to make a "go buy console keke" comment - not valid since it'd necessitate the purchase of 360s by several individuals, plus games, plus XBL subscriptions. And a TV in my case. The idea is to find stuff that my group of co-oppers can grab and play without the expenditure of >$50. Title: Re: Co-Op on PC Post by: Velorath on November 27, 2006, 06:14:55 PM I remember a number of maps in Myth and Myth II that were a lot of fun to play co-op.
Title: Re: Co-Op on PC Post by: Samwise on November 27, 2006, 07:26:41 PM Serious Sam has some fun (if brainless) co-op.
Title: Re: Co-Op on PC Post by: Merusk on November 27, 2006, 07:32:44 PM You've listed all the ones I've got in my library outside of the FPS/ X-wing Series games. Thus why I play MMOs, they're inherently co-op.
GRAW = Ghost Recon: <something> Title: Re: Co-Op on PC Post by: Zetleft on November 27, 2006, 07:39:04 PM Serious Sam has some fun (if brainless) co-op. The first one worked fine, the second was a fucking buggy travesty to play co-op. Title: Re: Co-Op on PC Post by: Kageru on November 27, 2006, 09:44:24 PM Serious sam isn't really co-op, it's more like multiple single player games in the same arena. There's no real reason for co-ordination or tactics. It is a lot of fun as a LAN game though. The paucity of these games is pretty much why I am looking at a console, despite having two perfectly good PC's at hand. Title: Re: Co-Op on PC Post by: Strazos on November 28, 2006, 08:01:56 AM Wow, Wikipedia manages to surprise me yet again.

Title: Re: Co-Op on PC Post by: Morfiend on November 28, 2006, 10:15:25 AM GRAW is Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter. Worst co-op ever.
And I just couldnt resist the 360 comment cause they have so many great co-op game come out recently. Gears of War, Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, Rainbow Six: Vegas, just to name a few. Title: Re: Co-Op on PC Post by: Yoru on November 28, 2006, 10:38:16 AM http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Computer_and_video_games_featuring_cooperative_gameplay A great list, it just doesn't tell you which ones are good and which ones should be avoided on pain of cutting off your genitalia with a rusty spoon. Title: Re: Co-Op on PC Post by: Kageru on November 28, 2006, 04:47:48 PM Likewise some of them are awfully dated. I remember enjoying HexenII, a FPS with different classes and some maps that worked well co-operatively... but that was 10 years ago. Title: Re: Co-Op on PC Post by: Krakrok on November 28, 2006, 05:22:19 PM Come on, you know Ninja Baseball Bat Man (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ninja_Baseball_Bat_Man) has got to be good. Any of the 3-4 player side scrolling arcade games are good like Golden Axe, Punisher, Knights of the Round Table, X-Men, TMNT, Gauntlet. Return to Castle Wolfenstein and Civ IV are listed on there. Title: Re: Co-Op on PC Post by: McCow on November 28, 2006, 06:50:35 PM GRAW is Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter. Worst co-op ever. And I just couldnt resist the 360 comment cause they have so many great co-op game come out recently. Gears of War, Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, Rainbow Six: Vegas, just to name a few. I picked up a 360 just for this reason. We just cleared Act 1 in Gears on Insane last night. I would probably rank it as one of my best coop experiences since Doom 2 on a serial cable. Don't forget about the 2 player RTS vs computer. Company of Heroes + Dawn of War + Homeworld could entertain you for a while if that genre turns your crank. NWN has some decent 2 player modules that don't suck all that bad. I had a lot of fun with the original Splinter Cell or Rainbow 6. I would also recommend avoiding GRAW. I also didn't see Titan Quest on the big list. Title: Re: Co-Op on PC Post by: Morfiend on November 28, 2006, 08:12:31 PM I picked up a 360 just for this reason. Im looking for some one that wants to try and tackle Insane mode. So far no takers from my friends. Title: Re: Co-Op on PC Post by: NiX on November 28, 2006, 10:13:06 PM I liked Gears, but I'm liking Vegas more. There's something about being able to tackle 1 level so many different ways that makes this game so good. The co-op is so much fun and my friends and I have only done story mode. Terrorist hunt is a whole new game in itself.

Ultimate Alliance is on all platforms, I believe. Including the PC. New CoV character idea.Title: Re: Co-Op on PC Post by: murdoc on November 29, 2006, 08:28:41 AM Im looking for some one that wants to try and tackle Insane mode. So far no takers from my friends. One of these days, when I have a decent length of time to play, I'd hit insane with you. My problem is that my internet connection is.. tempermental... so I've been avoiding XBL games lately.
