Title: Free Yahoo! Fantasy Football 2006
Post by: shiznitz on June 22, 2006, 01:30:32 PM
Do we want to do this again? How about a Survival League? Just bringing it up since the draft times are going bye bye fast.

I say we do both- a regular fantasy league (NO HEAD 2 HEAD!!!) and a survival league. If you want to run it this year, try to get a draft time as close to opening day as possible.

Man, I can't believe it is already time for this (although I ordered my FFI mag a few weeks ago). WOOOHOOOO!

(NO HEAD 2 HEAD!!!)

Pussy

Let me expand on this: head to head makes it interesting and this is coming from someone that's been screwed by the system in just about every season. Otherwise, where's the drama? Where's the upsets? Where's the Arcadian del Sols that have the worst point total yet somehow finish in first and make the playoffs?

Dunno, pure points race seems boring.

Pure points will reflect more accurately who has put together the better team. H2H has too many luckbox wildcards.

That being said, I am in either way. I need to feed the dragon.

That's true.  But at least for me in H2H it feels like I'm assembling a team, not balancing a spreadsheet.

Ok I will starts a H2H called Bat Country.

Problem: The draft has to be early August if we want anything after 5pm EDT. Is a 5pm EDT draft a deal breaker for anyone?

Done. Same rules as last year. Live draft is 8/15/06 at 9pm EDT.

League ID: 115582
pwd: f13dotnet

14 slots. First come, first serve.

I do not see the option for a survival league, at least under the free games.

Title: Re: Free Yahoo! Fantasy Football 2006

I can lock the league at the current teams or leave it open. I prefer smaller leagues, but I will defer to the group. I have found that anyone who doesn't sign up early is generally not that interested, usually resulting in participants who don't make roster changes on bye weeks etc.

In fact, I am going to close it. If we get two more people who express enthusiastic interest, I can open it up again for them.

I'm enthusiastic!  I just don't check the fantasy sports forum religiously in the offseason!  I even won a few years ago, so I promise to be anal and min/max my lineup every week like a good catass!

The Roosters crow again, motherbitches!  Prepare to the pwnzor3d.

Thanks Shiznitz.

Title: Re: Free Yahoo! Fantasy Football 2006
Post by: shiznitz on July 31, 2006, 11:23:53 AM
Yeah, well it is a balancing act. I could play with the rosters to avoid crappy-WR-itis maybe. For instance, I have seen leagues with 2 QB slots, but that means several people will have a t least one QB on bye for half the season which sucks more.

Title: Re: Free Yahoo! Fantasy Football 2006
Post by: Rasix on August 14, 2006, 02:59:42 PM
It's a WR/TE spot.  IMO, that's pushing it a bit too far with the WR/Anyone slots.  We have WR, WR/R and WR/TE spot.

I'll pick for you Zet. I've always wondered how an all kicker team would do...

Title: Re: Free Yahoo! Fantasy Football 2006
Post by: shiznitz on August 15, 2006, 08:38:22 AM
I just went with last year's positions, but I will change the W/T to a TE only.

edit: I also noticed we only had 1 pure WR and 1 pure RB slot. I added a pure WR slot.

Also, be aware that WRs are heavily favored due to the 0.5 per reception stat (this is higher than any league I have ever played in, but, once again, I just copied last year which Yahoo! let me do) combined with 10yds per point. RBs are at 10yds per point. QBs are at 25yds per point.

Please express anger, satisfaction or apathy as you will.

Title: Re: Free Yahoo! Fantasy Football 2006
Post by: murdoc on August 15, 2006, 09:22:13 AM
Last 3 years I've been in a league that gave 1 pt per reception and it didn't make WR's overpowered. If anything, it evened it out enough that your team wasn't screwed if you didn't have a stud RB.

I'm a fan of the points per reception.

Title: Re: Free Yahoo! Fantasy Football 2006
Post by: WayAbvPar on August 15, 2006, 10:15:48 AM
I like p/r too. It makes the draft much more interesting; instead of 25 RBs and 5 QBs in the first 2 rounds, you get a better mix of players. Gives alternative strategies a chance at least.

Title: Re: Free Yahoo! Fantasy Football 2006
Post by: Rasix on August 15, 2006, 10:21:52 AM
No objection here.  I'll only bitch about anything that's extremely unbalancing.

We're going to have a LOT of WR's drafted and people will be starting chumps low on the depth chart.  But that's more a symptom of being 14 team league.  At least a 2nd or 3rd slot WR has a better chance to score decent points (especially with 1pt per reception) than a backup RB (unless they're in Denver).

Wish I wasn't still at work, I doubt I got a decent TE since I think I edited my rankings last night to reflect the no TE posistion before it was changed :p

Faked edit:  Looks like I got some nice wide receivers and Jason Witten.  Also looks like I probably picked way too high on kicker and Defense positions.

I coulda swore you wrote Goddamn Korean and I was very confused for a moment   :-P

But hey Wind at least you have a running back that actually starts for the team he is on.  Autodraft managed to nab me 3 backup running backs FTL.  I just hope Ming Vase F. Taylor goes out early in the season with his regularly scheduled injury.  But thank god it drafted me 2 kickers AND 2 defenses before getting my first running back, none of which that were actually on my list   :-D

Title: Re: Free Yahoo! Fantasy Football 2006
Post by: El Gallo on August 16, 2006, 01:00:44 PM
I probably should have autodrafted.  I'm pretty happy with the depth on my team (having guys like Plummer and Dillon on the bench in a 14-team league seems pretty good), but the starting lineup -- not so much.  My top three picks were a running back with no offensive line (James), a receiver with no quarterback (Moss), and a quarterback who wins a lot of games but doesn't rack up a lot of points (Brady).  We'll see how that goes...

Title: Re: Free Yahoo! Fantasy Football 2006
Post by: Rasix on August 16, 2006, 01:48:25 PM
This year, like last, I think I have a starting unit that can potentially put up a ton of points.   I got a bit unlucky in that a lot of players that I was letting slide (because I thought I could get away with it) got snagged right before I was ready to take them.

My depth, like last year, is not as good as I'd like it to be and is somewhat unspectacular.  And like last year, I really didn't take any risks with problem players or rookies.  That may end up biting me in the ass as some very promising rookies are backing up some notoriously fragile players.

I really hate drafting this early, but I think my team will be OK and hopefully not start as goddamn slow as they did last year.

Title: Re: Free Yahoo! Fantasy Football 2006
Post by: WayAbvPar on August 16, 2006, 01:51:14 PM
I actually really like my team, which bodes ill for the season. WR could be a weakness, but I have some definite potential. I am rock solid at RB and QB. D is good. K and TE are superfluous most of the time.

Title: Re: Free Yahoo! Fantasy Football 2006
Post by: murdoc on August 16, 2006, 02:50:28 PM
In a 14 player league, depth is hard to get imo. It's ALL about getting on that waiver wire late Sunday night to grab the WR that everyone missed and will light it up for you on a bye week.

Having said that, I'm pretty happy with my team. WR might be an issue, but other than that, I'm content. Not a superstar team, but one that should fairly steady week in and week out.

Title: Re: Free Yahoo! Fantasy Football 2006
Post by: Sauced on August 16, 2006, 04:42:10 PM
My plan was basically to get enough solid, consistent starters for the first month of the season when I'll be a little MIA, and I mostly pulled that off, barring injuries of course.  My only problem will be week 9, when my kicker and def have a bye, and I'll have to waive two players in one week.  Hopefully it will sort itself out by then.

Like everyone else, I feel good about this year's team.

It begins.  (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/football/nfl/specials/preview/2006/08/17/bc.fbn.seahawks.stevens.ap/index.html) I'm betting the theme for my team this year is going to be "knee injuries".

Title: Re: Free Yahoo! Fantasy Football 2006
Post by: Paelos on August 17, 2006, 02:07:52 PM
Well I'll do my predictions on my squad.

My WR core will make or break me since they are completely awesome in theory. Steve Smith loves to grab much yardage each game, and Larry Fitzgerald is impossible to cover in the end zone. My RB situation is the weakest part of my squad, and basically rests entirely on the fact that Willy Parker is the real deal in Pittsburgh, and that maybe they'll let his dumbass run it in the end zone occasionally.

As for my QB, ELI RULES! I have high hopes for NYG contending as the division champs this year, mostly resting on Eli's arm.

Defensively, Denver, who was top 5 in least points allowed and most fumble recoveries, and 6th in interceptions. The only problem is their sacks.

All in all I think I have a decent squad who needs some trades done.

Goddamned jury duty made me forget the draft.

I think I did ok, especially with Peyton, Reggie Wayne and Plaxico Burress. I'm really thin at RB, though. Damn autodraft gave me Priest Fricking Ow My Neck Holmes, which I had to drop. Duckett was the most reliable points getter on waivers. DEF is not great for me, but Cincy usually gets lots of turnovers. New England's D hasn't been good for years, though. The only hitch is the Week 4 bye for Atlanta, taking out both my RB's.

Want to make a deal featuring Addai and Wayne among others so I can replace my resident alcoholic?

EDIT: Rest of my message got cut off... so long as the Cardinals offensive line can hold up I anticipate great production from my Warner/Lienart combo. My team's sucess depends on Lamont Jordan/Westbrook's ability to not die and continue to get tons of receptions. Gotta take some chances!

Dom Davis out for the season. Houston looking incredibly dumb now, having passed on Reggie Bush in the draft. The Eagles will probably be this year's nearly unanimous first game favorite in survival leagues. Beware. That honor has been the kiss of death two years in a row now.

Not that it matters, the way Ronnie Brown is playing, it'll even itself out.

Title: Re: Free Yahoo! Fantasy Football 2006
Post by: HaemishM on September 08, 2006, 09:28:51 AM
Pittsburgh looked better than I expected them to. The challenge flag thing was really, really silly. It isn't like the Steelers wouldn't have scored the TD anyway.

I like that Culpepper looked good the first half, and then completely collapsed in the 4th. Look forward to that, Saban, a lot. The worst part about it was that first INT that Polamalu grabbed. He grabbed it because the last 3 or 4 passes Culpepper threw were to the same side of the field, trying to grab the sidelines. Pittsburgh let a few go through and Culpepper kept looking there until finally Polamalu just jumped the route. Nice decisionmaking there, asshat.

Also, Weckler looked really good, enough that I dropped Santonio Holmes for him. How can you field a punt on the 4-yard line? There will be much lap-running for that young man.

Also, Weckler looked really good, enough that I dropped Santonio Holmes for him. How can you field a punt on the 4-yard line? There will be much lap-running for that young man.

Culpepper's performance really stunk.  Looks like I'm going to be starting Brunell until Culpepper shows some sense of what game he is playing.  18/37 for 0 TD and 2 INT?  Steelers D looked good but there was a lot of bad passes.

Wekler looked great but I wouldn't start him until you see if he can do that a couple of more times.

After the 2nd good play I knew someone here was gonna grab him.  Decent enough game but I wish they challenged that touchdown, Willy coulda used some points in my other league.

It looked like Saban didn't want the challenge flag seen, but if he was right, then he could complain after the game that he was robbed and that it was the officials fault that there was no challenge.

Holy shit, what a terrible way to start the NFL season.

The Bucs get absolutely destoryed... by BALTIMORE.
I lose (or will lose) all 4 of my head 2 head games.

I'm afraid to look at my pick 'em league.

I think I'm losing both my league's games off of this one. Unless Randle El has a big game and Moss, Longwell and Washington's D have a really bad game, I'm dead in this one. Who'd have figured that Vick would have a bigger game than Peyton, or that the New England Defense would have a worse game than Cincy?

Ok, the Cincy D I should have known better about, since they always get mad turnovers. But the rest? Go figure.

Thanks for telling me that Steve Smith isn't going to play pretty much the day of the game, you bunch of Carolina homos. That's a pretty big reason you lost that damn game. That, and your running game is asstastic.

Smith was listed as Q or D most of the week (I benched him in my other leagues on Tuesday as a precaution). I figure if a guy is a gametime decision, even if he plays he will likely be diminished, so why sweat it?

Did anyone catch the Packers' game? Holy fuck, that team looks awful. FUCKING DREADFUL. I mean, any defense that lets Rex Grossman complete more than 10 passes is pretty dreadful IMO, but to have him complete so many decent passes and that one long ball to Berrian? That's clownshoes level of suck. And may Ted Thompson and Mike Sherman stew in a special kind of earthly hell for having driven away and broken up the best O-Line in football in the span of 3 years. That line looked awful, which meant that by the 4th quarter, Favre had no choice but to try to win it himself. Again. Which meant that he overthrew everything, tossed up passes he shouldn't have made and generally caused everyone to rethink their excitement over his return. Favre doesn't do losing well at all. I'm expecting Aaron Rodgers to get in games by the 8th week.

Didn't see the game, but saw Favre in the press conference afterwards. He looked like one of the poor FDNY dudes coming out of the Ground Zero wreckage 5 years ago- hollow, hopeless look in his eyes. I hate to see him go out like this. I would root for him to retire, but I want him to play in the Seattle game later this year so I can see him in person before he goes.

I don't hate Favre but fuck him. He should have retired in semi-glory when he had the chance. Now he can limp out for all I care.

For tonight, will LD break the curse of the star RB this season? Am I right to remember that last year also started slowly for star RBs? I need LD to be mediocre or worse tonight to beat WayAbvPar. Three players can earn 37 points pretty easily.

130 points with nearly two goose eggs (Randy had 1.5, fucking Culpepper).  I'm so glad that I was able to pick up Frank Gore.  Amazed that he fell into my lap when I spaced on picking him up in the draft.  Not sure I'll throw up that many points again all year.

My WR depth is virtually non-existent. I'm really starting to hate Deion Branch. Anyone want to part with a #1 receiver on a bad team or a #2 on a decent one for Adam Vinateri?

Been busy enough at work that I had not. Very nice.  I thought the news on him today (that little button next to his name) would just be more crap about his grievances.

Hmm.. if my people stay hot, I could be dangerous this year. Still, not a lot of depth, but at least I have two people actually playing at WR. WTF happened to Kevin Curtis?

How much do the Raiders suck? A whole whole lot. To the point that they pulled Aaron Brooks and put in a 3rd round rookie QB, who drove them down farther than Brooks did. That's how much they suck. They have a decent, versatile running back in Jordan and a playmaker asshole wideout in Moss, and they can't score at home on Monday night. That's how much they suck.

And WTF is wrong with Marty Schottenheimer? I realize that this was Rivers first start, but come on, how many times are you going to run on 3 straight downs? If Rivers is supposed to be the QB of the future, why aren't you actually letting him throw passes? He's got a fantastic arm. The passes he did make were mostly really good, showing some incredible physical skills. The Raiders D showed no real ability to stop the pass and the O had no ability to score. So why not let your young QB get some actual work in instead of coddling him? He's going to have to win you some games down the stretch against good times, might as well let him practice against a scrub team. I think that's going to come back to bite Marty in the ass this season.

As for Washington, my fucking God could Brunell have been any less pathetic? I swear, every time the D even breathed on him, he threw the ball away. I suppose it's better than tossing an INT, but shit, take a hit every once in a while to make a play. There were way too many times he rushed the pass or threw it away at the first whiff of trouble. Meanwhile, Minnesota did just enough to win on offense, even though Williamson has bricks for hands. That long deep ball he dropped in the first half could not have been thrown any better, and he just drops it. He has the speed to be a #1 guy and the hands to be a Philadelphia Eagle wideout.

I really didn't think my team was that good (and I still don't).  I have the two top point producing players (McNabb and Gore, LOL) and Baltimore's D which is the top overall. This can't last.

My point output SHOULD dip next game as the matchups just aren't that great.  I shoud win, but saying that.. I'll manage to post 3 goose eggs and lose.   Not to mention Monkey could get Steve Smith back this week. That team does have decent scoring potential.

Well, at least the start to this year is better for me than last..  LJ's miracle 9 game run couldn't even save my pathetic team after my squad of underachievers dropped game after game.  I really still blame Mike Martz and Daunte for last year

The Steelers' offense looked mostly terrible. Rothliesberger probably shouldn't have played, what with a 104 degree temperature and fresh staples in his stomach. It was a "gutty" performance, but really probably shouldn't have been attempted. Batch isn't great, but he wouldn't have done any worse. The real culprit was the running game, which never got off the ground, and the dropped passes. I'm so glad I tossed Santonio Holmes early on.

Yeah I got screwed by the fact Pittsburgh couldn't put a FREAKING POINT on the board against Jacksonville. Also, my TE is totally worthless. However, Buffalo's D is nothing to laugh at, and Eli showed major balls in the Philly game. Once I get Steve Smith back and find out a way to not have Parker suck ass, I'll be in good shape.

I watched most of that Bucs game, though I fell asleep through the 2nd quarter. That must have been when Simmss took that pounding, because I didn't see it in the parts I watched. I did see him double over and that's got to win the guy a whole shitload of toughcred, to have played with a ruptured spleen.

Fuck Tom Coughlin for benching Plaxico. I know Plax wasn't having a good day, but 2 of those INT's from Eli were ALL ELI. And the fact that their defense couldn't stop a high school team did no good to the offense. Holy shit, they looked bad. AWFUL bad.

As for Peyton, he looked good, despite it seeming like Dungy did not want to win the game early. It was obvious that the Jags were going to run the shit out of the ball, and Dungy should have been playing 8 or 9 in the box from the get go. Leftwich is decent, but his receivers are very shaky at times. Make that group beat you. But instead, he lets Taylor and Drew run all over the D until the 3rd quarter. And he never tried to get a running game going. He really needs to start Addai and just make him the new Edge. Addai has most of the skills needed, and Rhodes is past the point where he can carry a running game himself. Against a team with a better offense to go along with that level of defense, like say San Diego or Seattle, that could have been a big loss.

Looks like I'll be escaping this week with a win unless Horn manages a statistical impossibility. Like I predicted, 3 of my guys seriously underperformed.  Daunte Culpepper continues to haunt my team from beyond the fantasy grave.   If I had listened to the pundits (hey, I go on gut), I would have thrown up another 20+ points (Winslow and Green for Gore and McMichael).   But hell, I figured Gore's done me good so far and Culpepper is bound to notice at some time that he's got a viable tight end.

Once again, McNabb and Baltimore D kicked some serious ass. I never realized what a damn juggernaut Boldin could be.  Guy just runs through tackles.  Helped that Fitzgerald had a minor case of the dropsies.

Got to love how the announcing crew in the Steelers/Bengals game kept commmenting on how the Bengals were running on first and second downs like clockwork.  Then late in the game when the Steelers were bringing people up Palmer was torching them with the play action pass. Palmer has so many damn weapons in Cinci.  That is the best set of WRs in the game right now and Rudi aint too shabby either.

Yeah, some of the commentators really are shitmittens. Most teams run to set up the pass, and most of the announcers should know that. Hell, that's what the Steelers were doing against the Jags last Monday night. It just happened that the Steelers couldn't complete a good pass to save their ass even when the D was reading run. That's why I was getting pissed that the Colts never tried to establish their run game early. Any other team, and they'd have gotten their asses beaten, but the Colts can live on pass (except in the playoffs).

My #1 draft is my #6 point generator. This continues to be my problem.  Chambers - with an ass-eating Culpepper throwing to him - has more points than Shaun right now.

My breakdown is pretty odd and disturbing also.

#1 is #4
#2 is #5
#3 is just had his first start this week and didn't do much.
#4 is #2
#5 is isn't even my top kicker and has an ouchy groin.
#6 has produced less than 10 fantasy points.
#7 is #1
#8 is pretty near Anquan's total point production and I haven't used him yet.  (Rudi and Frank have been solid).
#9 - 12 aren't on my team anymore.
#13 is my top kicker and performing pretty solidly.

My top TE I haven't started yet and was undrafted.  My top RB was not drafted by me (Gore) and is my #3 overall point producer.

This just confirms what I know, that I don't draft particularly well and especially in the later rounds I never manage to find anyone worth keeping.  I really over-reached on my kicker (really, I should save this pick for real late rounds) but amazingly my gut on Baltimore was pretty spot on.

But hey, hard to really complain when you're winning and winning early in the season.  This is something I've never managed in this FF league.  At least I don't have a Daunte Culpepper skull fucking my team this year.

I was thinking about the Madden curse the minute I heard about that injury.

Wow, did Atlanta ever stink up the Superdome last night. Either they just all got drunk before the game, or New Orleans really is a decent team. I never expected their D to stop the Atlanta running game. I didn't expect Atlanta to blow out the Saints, but I expected them to score, and to run at will. Maybe that's an indication that Carolina and Tampa's defenses are really much shittier than they have any right to be. I knew New Orleans would have a decent offense, but their defense is what's really surprised me. The NFL has gone all topsy-turvy again.

I don't think the Saints can hang with a great team like the Colts, but they are better than I thought.

Madden curse strikes again!

I told my brother this would happen when he took him in the first round in another league.  That and last year he was playing for a large contract which he now has, even without the curse he was going to have a down year, that was just a double whammy.

Atlanta just was playing college level special teams last night.  Guy untouched UP THE MIDDLE to block a punt, amateur hour, or they layed down for the city of NO

Then one of the O lineman seemingly just dies and rolls onto his back instead of protect the rush on the field goal attempt.  Just a pitiful game for them.  But yeah NO D was just all over Vick last night, he couldn't do a damn thing... didn't help that his safety net Alge just played for shit.

So, in another league I'm running, the guy who drafted Shaun Alexander dropped him. Turns out, Alexander isn't on the can't cut list due to injure (I guess).

They're saying he might actually play this weekend and not miss any time, with the Seattle bye week coming up soon. Now, I'm torn. Shaun Alexander on the waiver wire could seriously fuck up this league, and it's for money. So do I put him back on the team who dropped him, or let him go to whoever has the highest waiver priority (not me)?

I got a couple guys in the league that are PISSED, but coincidentally, they have a bad waiver priority and I think they'd have a different outlook if they had a chance at grabbing Alexander.

Everyone that drafted Rex Grossman as a top 3 QB in the NFL raise your hand.

We had a guy in my league draft him in like the 14th round and he was mocked.  I freely admit that I know nothing about the NFL anymore.

He already did though, in the 2nd-3rd quarters of the Vikings game last week.  He was terrible.  He got over it in the 4th.

He's only been sacked 3 times, and if *that* changes....

I really didn't expect Seattle to win on the road against a First Class team without Shaun, but I really didn't expect them to completely fall apart.

Doesn't seem like teams going into their bye-week are losing more than normal?

I must say I've been very happy with picking up Grossman since he wasn't drafted in our league :D

I will survive this year again in spite of my auto draft results.

I would have drafted him if I weren't a fan.  It would have been an instant ACL tear. *knock on wood*.  He's shown signs in every game he'd played, all 7 of them.  But I'd be lying if I said I expected him to play at *this* level.

Hopefully Akers won't attack the Packers bench tonight.

Holy shit do the Packers look bad or what? Their front seven on defense has actually shown signs of improvement, but their secondary is just fucking awful. Charles Woodson is going to be fragile this year, Al Harris is decent but unspectacular, and goddamn Ahmad Carroll should be washing cars somewhere. I don't think I've ever seen a game where he didn't get at least one interference/illegal hands call, usually in a bad spot like close to the goal line or some shit. He just doesn't know how to play without putting his hands on someone. Thank you, Mike Sherman for pissing away a first-round draft pick on this assclown. After three years of starting, one would think he could at least be a decent nickel or dime back, but no such luck.

Jennings looked pretty good, but Favre is going to continue to have an inconsistent year because his O-Line lets him down. He'll spend more time on his back than Paris Hilton.

I should lose next week.  Frank Gore has fumblitis and Ahman Green might not even play.  If Green can't go, I'm kinda of screwed as I'll have to drop a player I'd like to keep in order to fill my last roster spot.   Or I can just eat the zero.

I really wish Vinateri would get better or just be gone for the season so I can free up another roster spot.  I can't wait to get a couple more bye weeks out of the way. A team with shakey health means I'm carrying a lot of dead weight.

I am an Eagles fan and have McNabb in one of my leagues. I am benching him this week for Brees. McNabb's streak cannot continue like this and his WRs are banged the fuck up. This is the weak he does single digits. Bench Stallworth and Reggie Brown, too, if you have them. I would play LJ Smith though.

My pathetic excuse of a team this year has left me disconsolate.  the annoying bug of my selections for the week not registering in Yahoo sports website  have crushed me altogether.

Leaving 60 points on the table because I misread the error message and didn't take the time to check the results  left me wanting to jettison the whole team and load up on raider second stringers, just to see if I could completely crater my team to the bottom. of every ranking imaginable.

Maurice Jones-Drew is my turkey god. Two TD's le woot! Also Bernard Berrian is my chicken god. I should move up 3 spots regardless of tonight's game, which will probably be a borefest. I expect Jake Plummer to toss about 4 INT's.

The Steelers are in trouble. Najeh Davenport was a good pickup, but he's not going to take Bettis' place. As few catches as he caught last year, you wouldn't think Randle El would be such a huge factor, but not having him on the field is really hurting them. Rothliesberger has no one to throw to besides Ward (who's banged up) except Heath Miller and Parker isn't going to grind out the yards like Bettis could. The defense doesn't seem to be as good this year either. San Diego, OTOH, is mean. Their defense is fast, big and hard-hitting, and their offense is a monster with LT and Turner making a good combo. Rivers doesn't seem to be much of a dropoff from Brees at all.

That Dallas/Philly game was awful. It was a tale of two blitzes. That game was going to be determined by which QB could evade the blitz best, and Bledsoe will lose that every time. He looks like Kurt Warner back there. You might as well nail his feet to the ground. The Cowboy's O line didn't look like it could stop anybody.

Indy has got to do something about their defense now. There is no excuse for having the fucking Titans run all over you like that. A good team is going to kill you and fuck your dead corpse dry. The Titans DB's are really good, and Vince Young looked impressive. But the Colts should have massacred them. I'm sure there are some happy bookies in Vegas, who were giving the Colts like 18 points or some such. No one's going to bet on the Titans even with an 18-point spread.

I would take 18 points 99.9% of the time in the NFL. You just don't get THAT big of a disparity very often. a 10 point spread is enormous in the pros.

The league I'm in right now has 10 teams: Five are 3-2, Five are 2-3.  What's interesting is that 4 of the top 5 scoring teams are in the 2-3 category.

While I like the competition in head-to-head, it doesn't really distinguish the best team/owner so much as highlight who has the most favorable matchups over the season.

Amen. The bye weeks are what really fuck H2H leagues up. Nothing like facing a team you need to beat when you best players are on bye due to the vagaries of the schedule.

The Seahawks game nearly killed me, btw. It was literally 20 minutes before I could sit down after the game winning FG. I had been pacing around before it, and was too wired afterwards. Wow.

I am in three leagues this year. I drafted #1 in two of them and #6 in the other. I am under .500 in both leagues where I drafted #1 (Larry Johnson and Sean Alexander). I had never been #1 in draft order before and I don't want to be again. The worst part is that if I had taken LD in those leagues I would be doing very well.

Title: Re: Free Yahoo! Fantasy Football 2006

I got donkey punched yesterday. Part of it is that San Diego, despite playing a shitty team in the 49'ers, apparently couldn't run the ball that well (LT only got 71 yards). Which means they didn't put Michael Turner in to spell LT, so he got fuckall for points, unlike every other week before this where he at least got 4 or 5 points. Not that I had shit on the bench to back him up, since Derrick Mason can't catch balls anymore.

Fuck you Indy for being on a bye week. Fuck you Mike Vick for getting sacked 7 times. Fuck you NFL, CBS and FoxSports. On Friday night, I had my 2 of the 3 games Tivoed that were good matchups. By Sunday morning, EVERY SINGLE FUCKING ONE of the matchups were changed to the absolute shitties game available. I mean, the BEST I got was Philly/New Orleans, and that was only best because they were both 4-1. My other matchups? Tennessee vs. Washington and Miami vs. The Jets. Yeah, that's right, Joey Harrington vs. Chad Pennington. What the fuck was that? For the first Sunday in 2 years, I watched less than 2 hours of American football on TV. I may not even watch tonight's game. I sure as fuck wasn't watching the Raiders Junior Varsity Intramural team play ANYONE.

Had I been Green, I might have taken that mike back into the locker room and shoved it down Rackers' throat before extracting it rectally and stringing it through the entire Offensive line in the same manner. String 'em up like paper snowflake decorations at Christmas. What little I watched of the game looked atrocious. If the Cardinals had any kind of an offensive line, they'd be 6-0. Leinart appears to be that good, we know what James can do and even without Larry Fitzgerald, Boldin and the other receivers are money. That first sack/fumble for a TD the Bears got was a crime. For a tackle to just ignore a defensive lineman like that is criminal.

Weeee, I think I'm going to be 7-0 unless Jeremy Shockey puts up 40 points.

I really hate having to watch Cardinals v. Raiders for my 1pm game. I'm not sure how many drops Moss had in that game, might have been around 6. Edge runs the football like a scared girl.  Part of that is the o-line sucking eggs, but the man just refuses to take the small holes he's given.

Pit/Atl game was just crazy.

I watched the Carolina/Cincy game in lieu of the Steelers/Falcons and probably should have watched the latter. The Panthers pissed away an easy victory, Jake Delhomme throwing his first ever redzone INT. The Bengals looked AWFUL, though. Their O line couldn't block anybody. I'm still trying to figure out how they managed to not get blown out by the Panthers, but I'm guessing it's because Fox didn't shove Deshaun Foster down their throats until they choked. He seemed to interested in providing a balanced attack, which is fine unless you have a team like the Bengals who roll over for runs up the middle. I think Fox's is just scared Foster will break a toenail and miss the rest of the season. You'd think Fred Taylor was on the team.

Speaking of Taylor, what the fuck happened to the Jags? You don't get beat 27-7 by Houston. You just don't. You lose by a field goal or something, but you don't get bitchslapped that bad. It just shouldn't happen.

My late game was the Colts/Redskins. I think I've figured it out. The Colts' strategy this year is rope-a-dope. Spend the first half looking like you can't quite get everything together, then assrape the team in the second half. And they did. Boy did they ever. The final score was 36-22 but it wasn't that close after the first half. Addai is the real deal, and if he isn't starting in lieu of Rhodes by next season, I'll be surprised. They've lost nothing with the Edge going to Arizona to get his colon pounded. In that system, Addai is going to be as good as Edge. Reggie Wayne is still money.

I was also happy to watch Clinton Portis take a helmet shot directly to his jewels. To his credit, he managed to make it to the sidelines before curling up in a fetal position of pain. But it made me cringe and walk funny.

I got to see the Pittsburg/Atlanta game. That was a GREAT game. Porbably the best game I've watched this year. In between that I got to first spin into a depression because the Bucs forgot to tackle Westbrook and hand the game back to Philly, to leaping around my basement like a maniac to see that they won with a 62 yard field goal.

This weekend was a great weekend for football.

They will lose to KC this week, but I think they can beat Oakland and SF with Seneca Wallace (especially if Shaun comes back after the KC game). The O line needs to get its fucking act together, and the D needs to quit giving up huge, game-changing plays.

It definitely could have been worse, but it fit wit h the rest of the shitty day. Ugh.

Eli again pulls my feet out of the fire and performs well on Monday Night putting up a respectable 17 points. The big difference maker on my team? Steve Smith, without a doubt. What he is to the Carolina Panthers, he is that and so much more to my team.

I don't particularly like my matchups this week except Boldin v. the Packer's secondary and Rudi against the Atlanta front 4. No major BYEs, but I'm afraid I'm going to have to sit Frank Gore v. the Chicago D.  I just see the Niners getting beat about 70-0.

Ouch, at least this loss was close.  I barely remember my undefeated days (1-0!) after this 6 game skid.  I felt like things were going to turn around for me next week, until I realized I needed to add a defense to cover a bye and seriously considered the Browns before switching to the Jets, because they are playing the Browns.  Either way, relying on the Browns is a bad thing.

Also, fuck the Steelers for fumbling so many fucking balls.  Also, fuck the training staff, why the fuck does every other player on the team have a hamstring injury this year?  I guess they have a shot still because the rest of the division is a joke, but talk about digging a fucking hole for yourself.  Fuck.

At least the Pens look a lot better.  I wonder if it would be inappropriate to keep rooting for them if they moved to Canada, since I haven't actually lived in Pittsburgh for 15 years now?

Teenage suicide, don't do it.

This quote from my #1 draft pick pretty much sums up my season:

Quote
"I don't know, it's making me look like I can't even run or something, and I've been running forever," [Edgerrin James] said. "All of a sudden, we're at a standstill." James said he was warned about signing with the Cardinals, although he wouldn't say where the warnings came from. "Man, I wasn't prepared for this, I rally wasn't. It's not what I seen when making my decision, man. I don't know what we're doing. It seems like every week, it's something new. It's all new to me. It's not happening. It's really not happening."

IT'S NOT HAPPENING!

Here's a hint, Edge. You went from running behind a top 5 offensive line to running behind barely moving sacks of meat in pretty red uniforms. There are few runners that can succeed despite their O Line sucking monkey ass (Barry Sanders being one of them). When that runner is at, near or over the age of 30, there are even fewer.

Trust me, Edge, it isn't you that sucks, it's your O Line. Buy them some arsenic-laced steaks and start over.

Dunno if you've watched him run lately, but part of it is him not adjusting to way his line blocks (or doesn't block as the case may be).  Holes are closing while he's still dancing around in the back field.  The guy could get more yardage if he'd quit pretending he's Barry Sanders and just start busting through those holes as they appear.  They don't run the stretch play in AZ for a reason, the fatties up front aren't talented enough to pull it off.

A runner like Tiki Barber would average near 4 yards a carry with the Cardinals line.  Edge may end the season under 3.

Post by: HaemishM on October 27, 2006, 08:36:25 AM
Edge probably started the season with a one cut and go mentality, but after 6 games of getting hammered, he's just taken to dancing automatically when the ball's handed to him. Post-traumatic stree syndrome. Same thing that happens to rookie QB's when they get slammed to the turf over and over. He's running based on a line blocking scheme that isn't there, and couldn't be there anyway because the O line is so bad. I'm afraid it's going to be a long season for him.

Don't look at me. It has to go through a waiting period unless the Commish goes ahead and approves it, I think.

Oh and Peyton pwned this weekend, but Reggie was even more money. I swear watching the Colts, it looks like they just toy with their opponent in the first half, then show up to play the second half. What Denver D? Now, if they could just pull that off in the playoffs, they'd be golden.

Carolina needs to learn how to play 4 quarters. They aren't even averaging 2 quarters. They did the same thing against Cincy, started out strong then petered out. They seem to have abandoned the running game as their bread and butter, and that's what's killing them on offense. They don't get 3rd and 4's they get 3rd and 8's after running for 2 yards, passing incomplete and then Delhomme gets sacked. And apparently they've ALL forgotten how to catch a pass, because there were drops that should have been easy. Keyshawn looked lost.

Tampa Bay looks lost too. Galloway and Clayton both dropped big play passes, passes that hit them RIGHT ON THE HANDS. It was despicable, and I hate the Bucs. I don't think the Giants should worry too much about Barber retiring at the end of this year, Brandon Jacobs looks like a good replacement, provided they can get a rookie change of style back to spell him.

I actually did better this week than I thought I would. My pickup TE to replace my regular shitty TE put up a whopping 26 points. That guy could be a great find. My #1 defense had to play the Colts, so I expected a loss there. Also, can someone page Larry Fitzgerald and tell him to stop being such a pussy. It's a freaking hamstring injury, that's not something you miss four weeks with.

Brady, that is, not you

Having no reliable qb is making the other deficiencies in my team stand out even more. That's what I get for  having to work on draft day :(  I'm just glad I picked up Colston halfway through the first half of game one. I got lucky there, but that's about it this year, all the typical sleeper picks are locked up tight in this league.

Manning is just money, especially combined with Wayne. What the fuck happened to Atlanta though? It seems like they get up for one or two games, then forget how to play for another deuce.

The Steelers season is done. I'm so glad I dropped Santonio Holmes, his butterfingers on punt returns got him sent to the bench.

Bye weeks are annihilating me. There's nothing I can do with Steve Smith and Larry Fitzgerald on the sidelines in the same week. Makes me wish I'd actually live drafted to compensate for that inevitability.

I play the Drunks this week, and I'm going to say it'll be a tight match that I should win. Willy Parker will run all over the Saints, Denver's defense will tee off on the craptacular offense of the Raiders, and what could be better than our two QBs (Eli and Rexy) going head to head in the same match. This matchup will come down to one game, the Giants vs. the Bears, with me backing the Giants.

Prediction: The Giants play a close match with the Bears who are angry coming off a dissapointing loss, but end up losing in to a late TD they can't match: 24-17, but that won't be enough points to keep Parker, Denver, and Steve Smith at bay. I beat the Drunks 95-88.

Don't count on Parker running all over the Saints. They've got a better run D than I thought, and their linebackers are better than expected. He might get a 100 yard game, but after seeing both teams this year, I'm not going to count on that. I'm glad to say I was totally wrong about the Saints team. They might make the playoffs, though I don't see them getting very deep.

Yeah chi-town failed me in all aspects of the game last week but that won't happen in back to back games.  Grossman will bounce back and its nice knowing he won't have to worry about Strahan this week either.  The pressure of an undefeated season is off and the Bears D will get back to business on Eli's ass.  I'm still not sold with Jones as my starting RB as I never know when Cedric will step up and make him obsolete but not like I have anyone else to rely on.  I got Tatum Bell (backup again) and the rest are non-starters..... yeah RB hurt me big time this year.  My all talk WR core of Owens and Ocho Cinco haven't exactly saved my ass either but at least they are starters :p

Running back has become a hard position to pick all around. There are maybe 4-5 guys who you know are going to start and get you mad points (Larry Johnson, Tiki Barber, Deuce McCalister, Shaun Alexander, Tomlinson) and of those 5, Alexander's hurt. The rest are going to give you good points most weeks, and some weeks will just disappear, like Stephen Jackson, Deshaun Foster, Parker, Portis. The Denver situation is a mess, with Shanahan constantly switching up backs and those backs getting hurt. The rest are either also-rans (Droughns) or guys who should be lighting it up, but their O Line sucks monkey ass (Edge). With most teams going to two back rotations, there's just very little good picks left.

Title: Re: Free Yahoo! Fantasy Football 2006
Post by: Rasix on November 08, 2006, 09:02:22 AM
My trio of backs has been pretty decent if unspectacular this season.  Rudi Johnson, Frank Gore and Ahman Green.  Green is the only one that recently has been putting up great numbers, somewhat like the Green of old.  All are heavily dependent on matchups and I hate having to play the matchup game and end up sitting the guy you picked first because he's running against Baltimore.

The problem is that all three have problems finding the end zone, because all three are on struggling offenses. But, they're loads better than some of the sad sacks y'all have to live with or having to fill the W/R slot with a bad second or third string WR.

If you are counting on Chicago, you need to be aware that Berrian is injured, and without a deep threat on the outside the D has a free safety to sit in the box, cover TEs freeing up an OLB for blitzing, or blitzing himself.  Their play action goes in the toilet without the over-the-top threat, which basically sums up the shit fest against the Dolphins.  Well, that, and Jason Taylor backing up his talk with a monster game.

In more important FFL news, it's nice to still be alive with my full team after the last 4 weeks of sucking.

What a down week I had. Luckily, I'm only 1 point behind and Keyshawn is playing tonight against Tampa. I hope that means he'll wash out his vagina and actually catch some goddamn balls instead of dropping them. He has to catch at least 20 yards. He can do that, right?

Both games I watched yesterday sucked. Steelers/Saints was a game of who could fuck up less (or last). Fumble, fumble, fumble. Parker impressed me though, tearing the Saints D a new one. The Giants/Bears game was the same way, fumble fumble fumble. I get tired of watching two teams try to outsorry each other.

It's amazing that Rex seems to only have two speeds, God Mode and Total Noob.  Fortunately he was able to turn on the former at the two minute warning of the first half.  And then it's like he's a machine.  Just so bizarre to watch.

And Hester standing in the end zone with the ball, watching the Giants walk off the field for 2 seconds before going *immediately* into Ludicrous Speed was so fucking awesome.

That seems to be a symptom of the Coughlin Giants. They will go along doing good things and then all of a sudden both the coach and the players will just have some kind of seizure where they forget everything about how the game is played. It's like they forget they are even playing football. They become the most penalty-ridden grabasstic bunch of twits to walk the face of the earth. Their success just depends on how long they stand there with that stupid look on their face before waking up.

In this game, it was over when that touchdown occurred.

Well, the first part of my prediction was good, Parker did run all over the Saints and put up 35 points, Denver D did a decent job against Oakland for 15 points, You'd think with my D and one runningback putting up 50 points I'd be in stellar shape. Oh but no, the Drunks set a new record in one week points with 152, and Eli goes NEGATIVE! Kudos to the Drunks, that's an unreal week.

The NFL ruled Brown did not have possession before Buckhalter caught his deflection, giving Buckhalter a 55-yard touchdown reception instead of a fumble recovery. WR Reggie Brown now has one catch for 18 yards during the Week 10 game. QB Donovan McNabb now has 257 yards passing in addition to the 55-yard touchdown pass.

Shitty bye week management.  QB and TE one week, WRs the next, RBs the week after that, and then Def and K took the week off.  So, with crappy waiver work over the first four weeks by me, I had depth issues that killed me for four weeks straight.  Although one of those losses was like 104-102 or something.

Seem to be back on track now though.

Holy shit, that's a huge loss. Not only is Wu's Pigs done for the season :) but so are the Eagles. He IS that team, period. They were already inconsistent, now they are going to be plain awful. I mean, Jeff Garcia is their backup option? OUCH.

As for me, I should have this week sewn up unless Burress sprains a labia or something. Surely the Jags can't stop him from getting 15 yards. Surely?

I watched the Colts/Cowboys game and the Cowboys D looked REALLY GOOD. Their offense was good enough. It looked for awhile there like Indy might stop them cold, but once Julius Jones got running, I got worried. Peyton still had a good day for me, as did Wayne. They saved my ass like they've done all season. But it's official: Manning doesn't know how to deal with good 3-4 defenses. Which means if the championship comes down to Colts/Chargers, the Colts are in for a world of hurt, Vinatieri or no. I just don't think they can stop LT or Antonion Gates, and if Merriman is back from the Juice Express Suspension, that Charger defense will be top shelf again.

I foolishly shut the Charger/Bronco game off when it got to be 17-7. I wanted to play some more Zelda. But I did catch the last 5 minutes. Rivers and LT are just fucking scary good, and I'm not sure even MartyBall can fuck them up. At least until the playoffs. The Broncos though? They are going to make an early exit from the playoffs this year. Plummer is being Plummer and the triumvirate of Bell/Bell/Nash is not going to be as good as Denver's running game was last year.

I just cut Donovan; I nearly cried.

When I heard about the knee injury, my wife thought I had been fired or someone in my family had died (loud screaming followed by a depressed mood).  She reminded me that at least I made the playoffs.  She wanted me to pick up Matt Leinart because he's good looking.

And how much do I hate my wideout core?  I never know which one is going to show up.

Such a wierd game between myself and Sauced.  His RB and W/R combo get 0 points combined.  Donovan gets 1 and is gone for the season.  Ben Watson goes for 15 and the Carolina D DESTROYS St. Louis.   My RB and W/R combine for nearly 350 yards of total offense but manage to avoid finding the end zone.  My only TD came from Joe Horn. GAH.

Three games on Thanksgiving, and they all sucked ass. I know it's tradition, but do we HAVE to have Detroit and Dallas on Thanksgiving Day? How bad is Detroit that they can't even beat a team led by Joey Harrington?

I look forward to Jay Cutler starting next week for Denver.

Hey now, Dallas on Thanksgiving is one of the few things I look forward to so I can ignore my family.

Respek.

Fuck, I got HOSED. Joey Harrington has a goddamn career day. Frank Gore and Boldin danced on the defenses they faced. But that would have been beatable, except for Baltimore's D getting 40 FUCKING POINTS. That's money, my friends. Straight cash money. Any other day I might have won that game. Hell, I thought I had a shot. I mean, you've got JOEY HARRINGTON as your #1 QB. WTF? The good news is I won't lose any ground in the standings. With one game to go, I'd have to lose big to get out of the playoffs.

It was a must win game for the Monkies, and they capped it off because the wheels came off the Maulers.

Here's who is in:

1 - The Pigs
2 - Groin Pulls
3 - Evil Ben

Those who have a shot:

1 - P-town
2 - Drunks
3 - Kilts
4 - Saints
5 - Monkies
6 - Achievers

Here's the game breakdown:

Monkies play Gum (#14)
Achievers play Evil Ben (#3)
Saints play Edmund (#13)
P-town play Roosters (#10)
Kilts play Murdocs (#11)
Drunks play Pigs (#1)

It's really going to come down to points to see who gets in because there are going to be a lot of people tied at 7-6. Drunks have the worst chance to win as it stands in the matchups, while the Kilts have the best chance.

Damnit all to hell, could have been in if I had internet access over the weekend and knew McGahee was back turning A-train to a big dud this week, if I had Barber III or Jacobs playing I could have won this week.  Tough week for my QBs.  I rightfully benched Grossman against the NE defense but Phillip didn't do shit against the lowly Raiders, damn Martyball let Rivers play.

Oh well, next week is gonna be interesting.

Fuck.

Ok, what the fuck is it about the goddamn Titans D that turns Peyton into a wild ass slinger? He threw too many picks and not enough touchdowns, and had I started Dominic Rhodes, I'd have won. The Titans are about 2-3 players away from being scary good next year. Vince Young is showing he deserved to be picked in the first round. He could use a few receivers around him. Lendale White is going to be a star some day (I think) at least as good as Eddie George in his heyday. That defense has got some serious playmakers on it, or at least playmakers in waiting. They've played the Colts tight both games this season and have had two good comebacks in a row. Watch out for them next year.

The Giants? What can I say about the Giants? They continue to be the least disciplined team coached by a displinarian ever. Whatever he's doing, Coughlin is NOT instilling discipline in this team. Too many false starts, too many stupid fucking penalties. That defensive backfield is a joke, and needs to be scrapped and redone again. I'm not worried about their running game next year, because without Barber, that means Brandon Jacobs becomes their feature guy and he's scary good. They need to play Sinorice Moss more, he's got some serious physical ability.

I watched a bit of Cutler's debut in Denver. He looked like a rookie. He didn't look bad, but he looked like a guy making his first NFL start ever. The good news for Denver was their running game did well. Maybe you can't just plug any runner into that system and have him reach 1000 yards, as Mike Bell has proven. Tatum Bell looked much better early (I only watched the first half as it was getting late). The bad news is they lost. The wild card pictures in both leagues are looking packed.

I lost, but I could still make the playoffs on points, I think.

Steve Smith has to have 3 TD's and over 220 yards tonight for me to have a shot. I don't see it happening, so I'm probably going to lose getting in on the playoffs by a handful of points.

The Monkies fought hard this season though, from 0-3 in the beginning to over .500 at the end.

Fuck, that Panthers/Eagles game was shitty shit shit shit to watch. It was painful. Is it just me, or is the quality of play this year really down? There were so many goddamn punts and so many plays that were just nothing plays. It wasn't like either defense was stifling or giving the QB pressure or anything, the offenses just weren't clicking on either team. The Panthers have looked all year like a team that doesn't know what the fuck to do from play to play. John Fox doesn't seem to know whether he wants to run the ball or pass the ball, and doesn't commit to either. I think maybe adding Keyshawn gave them the confidence to pass more, but he isn't catching the ball like he should and Steve Smith is being relied on too much again. DeShaun Foster is never going to be a great feature back because he's too damn fragile. DeAngelo Williams could be I think, especially after seeing him last night, but he's still raw and that O Line is pretty bad. They have no cohesion.

The Panthers D was pretty bad as well, though. Their corners blew some plays really badly. Hell, that 51-yarder to Stallworth should have either not happened (because the defender was with him the whole way) or should have been a pass interference as Marshall should have just leveled Stallworth instead of letting him make that kind of grab. He'd have saved about 10-15 yards had he done that. Sometimes you SHOULD foul a guy.

I'm in the playoffs, though! Now if Dungy will just keep playing Peyton, I might actually win.

At least the Eagles looked like they wanted to win the game.  Last time out at Indy they looked completely dejected and just didn't seem like they cared whether they won or lost.  That defense was just listless and got ran the fuck over by a rookie.  It was nice to see them doing something and making some plays in the fourth quarter.  They're still soft though and have a terrible linebacking core (wtf is up with Trotter?).

Man.. you never pack it in when you've got something close to a winning record in the conference of mediocrity.  A wild card team could easily be 8-8 or worse.

It appears that I might squeak by with a win this week. I don't imagine Torry Holt can pull off 20 points against a Bears' D, no matter how many interceptions Rex Grossman throws. It just ain't happening.

Boy did the Colts look like total shit yesterday. All the receivers got the dropsies, the defense can't fucking stop ANYBODY and that's because they can't tackle anyone. I swear there were few running plays where the Jags back didn't break at least two tackles. Jones-Drew just lit them the fuck up. It didn't matter who was in the backfield, Pearman, Taylor or Jones-Drew, the Indy line and linebackers could stop stuff the run. Corey Simon where art thou? Actually, I think the Colts are missing not only Simon but Bob Sanders as well. As a hard-hitting safety, he's the kind of guy you can count on to be the 8th man in the box that can bring some hurting and I don't think Bethea can do that. The Colts should have been doing nothing but 8 and 9-man fronts as badly as they were getting pushed off the ball, but I don't think it would have mattered since they couldn't bring the backs down anyway. The Colts needed to make Garrard beat them, and they didn't.

The Giants, OTOH, looked good while the Panthers just looked lost. I'm going to go ahead and blame the shitty state of the Panthers this year on Dan Henning. His offensive scheme has no identity. It fiddle-farts around with all kinds of stuff without settling on anything. The Panthers are best when they are a ball control offense with some occasional vertical threat in Smith. They don't have either, because the run game never gets established and the passing game has nothing to freeze the DB's. They are just listless and predictable. They don't do nearly enough of sending Keyshawn over the middle of the field, choosing to send him on deep or vertical routes, and he's better over the middle. He doesn't drop the ball as much on crossing routes. Send Smith deep (or that kid Carter) and let Keyshawn be what he is, a great possession receiver. The Giants didn't play great, but they played well enough to beat this team.

The Chargers are my pick to go to the Super Bowl. They have the offense to beat a tough D like the Ravens. They have the D to hang with if not overpower any offense in the conference. Shit, they barely throw TD's to their wideouts and STILL score 48 points against a supposedly good Denver D. Hint: Denver's D is not that great. They can stop the run but are weak against the pass deep. I still think Champ Bailey is overrated, very susceptible to getting beat deep. Short routes he's all over, but flat out running or quick cut routes past 15 yards and he's left behind. Darrent Williams is even more susceptible to it. San Diego just picked them apart last night.

Also, the Saints are for realz, y0. I kept expecting them to fold up the tent and piss away the season, but after beating Dallas that badly, they are a credible #2 maybe even #1 seed in the NFC. Their D is much better than I thought it would be and their offense is just scary good. The Dallas D has held the Colts to under 25 points (14 I think), and manhandled other units and New Orleans just flat ran them out of their own building. They MIGHT be able to beat the Bears. MIGHT. No one else in the conference, and I mean no one, can match up to the Saints or the Bears without some serious luck. Which means come playoff time, they'll likely get blown the fuck out by someone with a good scheme.

Can 9 points + Rudi Johnson + Adam Vinateri be greater than Chad Johnson?  Well, that's all that's separating a 1 v. 2 matchup for the title (not sure we've had this happen before).  Needless to say, I'm a bit nervous.  If Indy decides to stack the box (thus slowing Rudi down, lets not go crazy and say they'll actually stop him), it's at Carson Palmer's discretion which of his monster receivers gets to have a career day.  Gah, I'd be in better shape if Atlanta wasn't such a horribly bad defensive team.

There's a few things we can learn from this game.  One: do not bet your fantasy football life on the Arizona Cardinals.  Egads, that was some terrible play Matt Leinart.  Two: first year starters can have really, really bad showings.  Three: expecting my mediocre receiving core to not be mediocre when it counted was just wishful thinking.  Next year it's time to get two quality starters.

Title: Re: Free Yahoo! Fantasy Football 2006
Post by: HaemishM on December 18, 2006, 02:19:19 PM
Indy will get run over by Rudi Johnson. Their problem isn't that they can't stack 8 in the box. It's that they can't fucking tackle. I've watched them the last 2 weeks and the backs that have run all over them have been hit at the 2nd level and the defenders just bounce off. Not having Bob Sanders at safety is KILLING them because he can at least deliver a lick. Everyone else has shitty shit shit shit tackling skills against anyone with size.

Things to remember Questionable means a running back will play and score a fucking TD.   Damnit.  Next year buck my normal routine and get a damn consistent QB.  Rivers -.82 points against KC will cost me this title match.  Grossman meanwhile rebounded and would have gotten me 24 points.  I didn't see the game but what the hell happened to the chi-town defense when rattay throws 3 TDs.  My cowboy duo of Barber and Owens netted me half my points this week with their great games but I doubt it will be enough unless Ocho Cinco gets a 3 TD 200+ yard monster game or something.  Indi's D against the run stinks and Rudi is sure to get at the very least 90 yards and a touchdown.  I can't complain about the season though as I managed it make it this far without a solid running back.

p.s. if Ocho Cinco manages to pull it off it will be very nice happy birthday to me  :-D

They just started giving up the deep ball.  Don't they have a safety out or something right now?  Both long balls were due to badly blown coverages and the safety coming over late.  Hester's fumble didn't help much either.

Anyhow. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aNzkcrQext0)

My drafting strategy will change somewhat next year, but I still feel good about getting a decent QB in the 5 or 6th round. It'll be hard to pass up taking a Baltimore or Chicago D but those can last until the later rounds.  And feh, kicker's going to be last round if I can hold out.

I'm gonna go out of my way and blacklist all kickers in my list to start with.  Autodraft grabbed me 2 kickers neither of which are on my team anymore.  At least in this league it's kinda going down to the last monday night game.  My other 2 leagues, which I was still in contention for, I was going against LT and Frank Gore in both games.... yeah I got creamed in those :p

Was weird seeing the stats page show Hester had like 3 fumbles during the game, hell of a thing to happen to knock him back down to earth after breaking the record last week.

Seattle just looks sick. Bad sick, like they have a fever and even cowbell won't help. They don't seem to be executing any phase particularly well with any consistency. Meanwhile, Philip Rivers has his second straight week of "I'm a QB IN THE NFL?!!?!!?" And yet he still wins, thanks to the big play. If I were Seattle in the offseason, I'd look at finding some DB's who don't give up the big play. It looked like the Super Bowl all over again.

Meanwhile, Philly is looking mean as hell. Maybe they just play the Cowboys well, only they did it to the Giants too. I think Romo is starting to believe his own hype, and is thus not executing well. Or it could be the Eagles in his face. The Eagles blitzed less early against Romo, but once they got him on his heels, they came after him and got the job done. It was beautiful watching T.O. muff so many passes, then hearing his little whine session after the game. Hey, Douchebag, they threw it to you, YOU DROPPED IT. There were at least 2 passes he absolutely should have had. Stop getting yourself knocked out of bounds or dropping passes and they might throw to you more.

The Packers have a playoff shot. Too bad they have to beat the Bears AT SOLDIER FIELD to make it. If the Giants get in at 7-9, I'll rethink my stance on NFL parity. The NFL just looks like a lot of mediocre teams. The Giants, the Panthers, and the Falcons are all teams that don't deserve the playoffs. They can't keep a consistent level of quality. The Packers and Rams are the same way. If any of those shittards win the Super Bowl, I may have to give up watching the NFL.

The Colts... WTF? Just WTF? Time to rethink your defensive team building strategy there, Tony. Get some beefcake in that line and get some bitches that can fucking tackle in the linebacking corps. There's no reason to give up that much on the ground, ever.

The Bengals are going to miss the playoffs to the Jets. Again, WTF? You can't beat the Broncos? There's another team that doesn't deserve the playoffs.

Seattle's off-season priorities should be-

1) a giant sack of shit 350 lb run stopping DT. Sub him out in passing situations for Rocky Bernard/Chuck Darby.
2) Someone besides Grant "Speedbump" Wistrom at DE. Preferably a run stopper who could then be replaced by Darrell Tapp/Julian Peterson in passing situations.
3) A coach to A) teach our free safeties how to play free safety, and B) someone to teach our pass catchers how to actually catch passes.

After watching Branch drop his 4th consecutive pass (all that hit him right in his CoH-colored gloves), I called my brother and told him that I wanted a Deion Branch jersey for my birthday. With his severed head wrapped inside it.

I think Darrell Jackson will get traded in the offseason for a 2nd or 3rd round pick. He is injury prone, and got sulky after Burleson and Branch got big contracts. Jerramy Stevens will probably get hugely overpaid by someone to drop passes; preferably not Seattle. Wistrom will get cut.

Draft priorities-
1) O line. They have a couple of young guys, but the rest are like my age. That is fucking ancient, especially in the NFL.
2) DT. AGAIN. Get it right one of these days
3) DB. Probably a free safety or nickel back.

The talent is still there to beat the Cowboys (who I am guessing they will play in the first round). Hell, if they pulled their heads out of their asses, they could beat the Saints and/or the Bears and get to Miami to get pwned by the Chargers. Not gonna hold my breath though.

I was the last undefeated team in that league, then I turned into the Colts.  It was looking so promising.

That cowboys game was just embarrasing to watch and god damn how I loathe TO.  Fucking crybaby that doesn't catch balls that hit him right in the hands.  It's too bad we won't win divison this year if phily beats washington next week (which they should but washington pulls a few good games out of their cracks).  I still think we can beat Seattle in the playoffs and even if we had won the divison we were not going to get a first round bye so I'm still feeling good.  Just need a good game next week to build up some momentum though.

Giants play Washington. Philly (home) plays Atlanta.

Thanks for the info.  Well Vicks & company suck so same difference :p   I really want the Giants to miss the playoffs so I guess I'll be rooting for washington.... first time for everything.

Root for the Packers. If they win against the Bears and the Giants lose (the latter is highly likely, the former not so much) the Pack is in. We all need FAV-RAH in the playoffs.

Oh I certainly am rooting for them, but don't have much hope against the Bears at home.  Only positive is the Bears have nothing to play for in this game as they have their division locked up.

And home field and the bye. They could trot out the cheerleaders and drink hot buttered rum on the sidelines without losing anything except their pride.

It's a Bears-Packers game. Big-time rival game at home for the Bears. I don't see them letting this one slide. Even in seasons where both teams sucked, it's always been a tough fight.

And, supposedly, Smith has learned his lesson from last season, when he played scrubs against a Vikings team needing a moral victory and blew the teams momentum heading into the playoffs.

Smith screwed the pooch again. I really hope Favre doesn't pack it in this year, because I think the team has some solid foundations to build on. Their wideouts look a lot better now than at the start of the year, and their defense actually seems to have some oomph. They even blocked well. Grossman looked totally inept and Griese wasn't much better.

I'm actually happy the Colts didn't get the 1st round bye. I think that's part of what has screwed them up in the playoffs the last few years. They are such a rhythm offense and not working for a week makes them look rusty as hell. Their defense though... I don't know if it can stop KC's running game or the Chargers.

Saints/Chargers Super Bowl?

Oh man, I can't wait to watch my team get embarrased at home in the playoffs for the second year in a row!

I hope the Seahawks are the ones that get to come visit and do it for ya, Sauced

Now, I have to get to Kirkland in time for my tryout for cornerback. Holy snapped ankles, Batman!

RIP Darrent Williams. What a shitty way to ring in the New Year.
