Title: Another Superman trailer out

Meh?

Everything just seems wrong about this one. Even Kevin Spacey (I like him, but I think he's too...feminine[?] to play Lex Luthor).

A comedy version with Patrick Warburton and Vince Vaughn would have been more inspiring...

The colors on his costume really really bug me.

One reply. I expected more hate...

But if you like it, say that too.

Well, I think Kevin Spacey could be good but I'm not liking Kate Bosworth as Lois Lane.

I like the trailer. Nothing about it bugged me, and there were some good moments.

It won't load for me.

So.

I HATE IT. WORST MOVIE EVER.

Kevin Spacey is the only thing that's going to make this movie tolerable. I'm already pissed that they had a scene of Clark in a cornfield. That shit is in the domain of smallville, motherfuckers.

Me no like.  Reasons outnumber great buffalo.  White man take good thing, cover with feces.  Now... give back firewater.

Spacey... I don't like as Luthor.  I kept seeing him as Dr. Evil from Goldmember.  Hackman is still alive, isn't he?  If they can put enough booze into Connery for him to show up on screen, at least call Hackman... or Lithgow.  I'd take Julian Sands over Spacey.  Or Billy Zane.  Anyone.

Suit, bleh.  Bad colors and it's full of pussy.  Superman is supposed to be super.  Routh doesn't look super.

It would be nice if Lois Lane was attractive, but I guess they are going for more realism?  Routh is prettier than Bosworth.

I also agree with Schild on the Smallville thing.  Do we need another treatement of the origin?

Seems ok.  Probably better than I was expecting really.  Still... just wake me up next year when Spiderman 3 and Sin City 2 come out.

Fuck Smallville.  Nothing which strikes the writers as worthy of inclusion needs to be left out just because it appeared on some WB show that the vast majority of moviegoers don't give a shit about.

Smallville is an entity unto itself, since it buggers canon and continuity sideways in every other episode (not that it's not a good show in its own right).

Having a quick "canonical" telling of the origin story in the movie doesn't seem at all out of place.

I agree with that, but I suppose from my somewhat-dorky POV, I don't want to sit though the story again.

I would, however, be rather excited to see the movie if Bizzaro and/or Mytzylplik were in it.  Spacey could play Mytzylplik and Warburton could play Bizzaro.

My wife tells me Smallville is actually pretty good.  Maybe they should have gotten the TV Lex for the movie, he looks pretty evil.

It's one of the few TV sets I'll be buying this year.  They're intelligent, and actually putting out the seasons on DVD very quickly.

Well just saw the new trailer they are releasing in the theaters last week when I went to see MI3.
Spacey as Luthor looked good. He was psycho.
But Bosworth (22 or so IRL) being old enough to have a 6-7 year old kid? Huh? WTF?

But over all it looked good and I will see it when it comes out. But I think X-Men 3 is going to be better.

I said Spacey was too feminine for the role, but that's another problem. Lex Luthor is not a psycho. He's a corporate styled criminal. Not some twisted, kooky genius. He isn't the Joker.

At the very least, he's a different brand of psycho. If one were to portray Luthor as psycho, it should be more along the lines of De Niro in the Untouchables.

You should be reading the latest DC Comics. Yes, he is a pyscho. It's just not the raving, Joker-esque type of psycho. Mainly a meglomaniacal sociopath.

It's even funnier when you think about Erica Durance (almost 28 and looks it) playing a young Lois Lane on Smallville.

Yeah she looks old enough to be everyone else's mom on that show. They should have cast her to play Lana Lang's (Kristin Kruek) mom.
And she has a flat ass. She is assless.

Allison Mack's got all the ass on that show.  And I've said it before but Annette O'Toole ain't bad for being in her 50's either.

Ah John Byrne, what would we do without your special brand of insanity (http://byrnerobotics.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=9031&PN=1&TPN=105)?

Quote
If you can't see the difference between a Superman who makes a decision based on what he has learned from his upbringing as a human on Earth (he ignores his biological father's warning -- he heeds the sage council of his adoptive, human father), and a Superman who is tricked by his arch enemy into deserting the planet his has sworn to protect, then I'd say Christopher Reeve's performance is not an issue. As you note, you have not seen Brandon Routh's performance, yet you are prepared to cut this new movie all kinds of slack in order to end up with a Superman who feels "right".

Sadly, you do not seem to be alone in this. As with Spider-Man, as with the X-Men, Hollywood has once again gutted the mythology, but self-declared "fans" a eager to race to the theater and reward them for doing so.

And you know what? I'm tired of it. I'm fed up with it. I am sick to death of opening this thread and finding post after post that clearly shows me that I, and those who think like me, have been wasting our time for the past twenty, thirty, forty years, working on superhero comics. None of the lessons we have tried to teach have sunk in. Superman can desert the Earth. Lois can have a bastard kid. Doesn't matter. Just make it fast and loud and shiny.

No more. I'm shutting down this thread. If you want to discuss this movie, find somewhere else to do it. Such chatter is no longer welcome here.

Meh.  But like usual The Man will get my money because I like to go check out how all the CGI/blue-screen looks and how seamlessly they integrate it into the movie.

I'm a sucker for shiney and stuff that 'splodes as long as it's on the big screen.

John Byrne needs to shut the fuck up, and has for a while now. I'm sorry, I forgot how clever it was to have Superman have a tiny field of invulnerability inches away from his body that protected people he carried while he flew. I forgot that having Superman being bitten by Count Dracula was somehow an interesting story to tell.

John's just pissed because all the work he's done in the last 10-15 years (really since he left Alpha Flight) has sucked balls.

First off, the new supe needs a freaking haircut!

Second, they clearly missed the mark hiring a twig to play Lois, again.  One thing Smallville had going for it was a Lois lane that appeared like a healthy person vice the stereotype Kidder changed the role towards.  Just sayin. :)

Allow me to demonstrate my lack of knowledge into all things comicbookiness...but am I mistaken then in my belief that Lois having this child was actually taken from the comics?

In the main continuity, Lois Lane has not had a child, no.

In any number of "What If?" style books, she's had kids.  DC didn't mark those as clearly as Marvel did back in the day, so it's easy to get confused.
