Kevin Spacey is the only thing that's going to make this movie tolerable. I'm already pissed that they had a scene of Clark in a cornfield. That shit is in the domain of smallville, motherfuckers.

I also agree with Schild on the Smallville thing.  Do we need another treatement of the origin?

Having a quick "canonical" telling of the origin story in the movie doesn't seem at all out of place.

I agree with that, but I suppose from my somewhat-dorky POV, I don't want to sit though the story again.

I would, however, be rather excited to see the movie if Bizzaro and/or Mytzylplik were in it.  Spacey could play Mytzylplik and Warburton could play Bizzaro.

My wife tells me Smallville is actually pretty good.  Maybe they should have gotten the TV Lex for the movie, he looks pretty evil.

I said Spacey was too feminine for the role, but that's another problem. Lex Luthor is not a psycho. He's a corporate styled criminal. Not some twisted, kooky genius. He isn't the Joker.

At the very least, he's a different brand of psycho. If one were to portray Luthor as psycho, it should be more along the lines of De Niro in the Untouchables.

But Bosworth (22 or so IRL) being old enough to have a 6-7 year old kid? Huh? WTF?

It's even funnier when you think about Erica Durance (almost 28 and looks it) playing a young Lois Lane on Smallville.

Yeah she looks old enough to be everyone else's mom on that show. They should have cast her to play Lana Lang's (Kristin Kruek) mom.
And she has a flat ass. She is assless.

Allison Mack's got all the ass on that show.  And I've said it before but Annette O'Toole ain't bad for being in her 50's either.

If you can't see the difference between a Superman who makes a decision based on what he has learned from his upbringing as a human on Earth (he ignores his biological father's warning -- he heeds the sage council of his adoptive, human father), and a Superman who is tricked by his arch enemy into deserting the planet his has sworn to protect, then I'd say Christopher Reeve's performance is not an issue. As you note, you have not seen Brandon Routh's performance, yet you are prepared to cut this new movie all kinds of slack in order to end up with a Superman who feels "right".

Sadly, you do not seem to be alone in this. As with Spider-Man, as with the X-Men, Hollywood has once again gutted the mythology, but self-declared "fans" a eager to race to the theater and reward them for doing so.

And you know what? I'm tired of it. I'm fed up with it. I am sick to death of opening this thread and finding post after post that clearly shows me that I, and those who think like me, have been wasting our time for the past twenty, thirty, forty years, working on superhero comics. None of the lessons we have tried to teach have sunk in. Superman can desert the Earth. Lois can have a bastard kid. Doesn't matter. Just make it fast and loud and shiny.

I'm sorry, I forgot how clever it was to have Superman have a tiny field of invulnerability inches away from his body that protected people he carried while he flew. I forgot that having Superman being bitten by Count Dracula was somehow an interesting story to tell.

In the main continuity, Lois Lane has not had a child, no.

In any number of "What If?" style books, she's had kids.  DC didn't mark those as clearly as Marvel did back in the day, so it's easy to get confused.
