Title: Crisis on Infinite Earths
Post by: Reg on December 09, 2019, 05:26:52 PM
Is anyone else following this? The first episode was on last night's Supergirl and number two is on tonight with the latest Batwoman. Third hour is the Flash airing December 10.
The last two hours air on January 14 with the Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qRpd4lj69ZY (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qRpd4lj69ZY)

It's looking like the most epic DC crossover yet. With many versions of all of the superheroes from various Earths. They even have Tom Welling and Brandon Routh reprising their own roles as Superman.

I'm sure the resident artistes will be dissatisfied but if you just want some comic book fun it's worth checking out.

I haven't started watching the Crisis episodes yet - I think I'm caught up to the episodes right before the Crisis. The Arrow stuff leading up to it has been interesting, a kind of stroll down memory lane of the show including both some of the shitty moments and the better ones.

They're cramming in a huge amount. I think they'd have been better off doing more episodes.

This isn't Henry VI. If they can't do it in five hours then they should write better.

They did fine in previous crossovers, and the 5 hours they have are even more time. I think they will manage.

Hah yea I spent all of last week catching up on Arrow, Flash and Supergirl so I'd be ready for Crisis. I had to watch all of Arrow season 8 because I'd gotten fed up with that show a couple of years ago. Thank god I didn't have to do the same with Batwoman and Black Lightning which I tried but didn't get hooked on.

There are 8 seasons of Arrow?  Shit, I was considering giving it the series a reboot from the beginning after having dropped out after about season 4, but sheesh.

I kept current on Arrow and Flash, but I quit Supergirl and Black Lightning at the start of the season. I doubt ultimate knowledge of all series is needed for the Crisis event. A general knowledge of who these people are suffices I think.

You didn't really miss much of Arrow if you stopped after Season 4 - it got REALLY FUCKING BAD. Like Legends of Tomorrow is intentionally bad in a modern camp sort of way and they leaned into that HARD - and the results are fun if you can accept the campiness. Arrows just sucked. It wasn't the actors, it was the stories and the tortured way they had of putting all the characters through dramatic shit whether it made sense to the character's history or not. There were positive parts to all the seasons but I'd say you can just watch season 8 (and maybe season 7 if you want some of the setup on the future characters) and be done with it.

Supergirl was hard to watch last season as they went super heavy into political messaging and even though it was a message I agree with, it was very heavy-handed. What saved last season of Supergirl was Lex Luthor played by Jon Crier. He was fantastic as Lex and Lex being the main season's villain actually made all the heavy-handedness of the earlier season make a lot more sense.

Was really hoping they would use John Constantine more.... *sigh*  might be alone, but I really wish we could see a TV Constantine done well.

I lost interest in the Arrow when it became resolutely grimdark every single episode. Arrow is leaving me with a good last season. Sadly it's been replaced by Batwoman who is also grimdark and unwatchable.

Anyone have reactions to the last 2 episodes of Crisis? There's going to be some big changes after this.

We don't know what it means, yet.  I'll be curious if they actually cross over into these 'new multiverse' shows like Titans, etc...

I'll be intrigued to watch them handle the "everyone in the world remembers X but the Paragons remember Y) over and over without it becoming a joke.

I'm curious if any of those 'destroyed universe crossovers will be capitalized upon...
Will we see Lucifer again?  Will we see the DCEU?  If Green Lantern is set in another multiverse, will they connect to the Arrowverse?
I'm curious whether we'll see Amell act in the Arrowverse again after his show ends.

They have several 'new' shows coming up.  Will it all be too much?

Only time will tell.

I am a big comics geek but the cheese in the first three was kind of too much for me. I'm not sure we're going to finish this off.

From what I've heard the multiverse is down to 7 planets right now. The new shows are going onto other Earths.
They've been hinting around about Diggle becoming a Green Lantern for a while now. I wouldn't be surprised if it happened.

This was total fan service wank and I fucking loved it. Seeing Movie Flash in it was a huge plus for me, as I liked that take on the character. I was smiling and laughing my ass off at the end.

I'd like to see Amell return in a guest role as the Spectre, and I'm really glad they used this opportunity to merge the Supergirl/Black Lightning/Flash Earths into one. I'd also like to see them make good on that promise of Diggle as the Green Lantern in some guest shots in the future. I don't think any of the actors quit the shows because they hated them so they'd probably be up for some guest work.

The idea is that they rebooted the multi-verse.  There is a brand new multi-verse.  There are 'infinite earths', but they're all different... and whatever force returned them to the present returned them to an Earth that was most like theirs as a combined earth.  Now these other Earths were the other shows exist (Teen Titans, Swap Thing, etc...) are potential cross-over bait, but I imagne that the next Flash episode will close off some of that possibility as the description talks about new physics.

And there is a Stargirl series coming in March I think, and it looks like she was/is/will be on Earth-2.

I believe that one is set in the preset day when a grandchild find's their grandparent's stuff.  I am unsure if it relates to that second world or not at this point.

I'm hearing rumours that the CW and/or HBOmax are considering a limited series (10-12) episodes of Brandon Routh's Earth 96 Superman along with as much of the cast of Superman Returns as they can get. This is in addition to the Lois & Clark reboot with Tyler Hoechlin.

Apparently Brandon Routh's Superman was incredibly popular among fans. Much more than they expected.

Kind of weird considering that Routh has been pretty open that the producers asked him to step away from Legends, though maybe that was just because the Atom FX were hard to do affordably even at the el cheapo level that the CW shows normally operate on.

I have loved Routh's goofy take on the Atom and hate that they are basically writing him off of Legends. I think that's a mistake. I didn't have much problem with him as Superman - most of the problems with that movie were at the script level. Him doing a Kingdom Come Superman show would be fun.

His acting as Superman in Superman Returns was pretty much perfect. It was a shame he never got the credit he deserved because of the bad writing. This just reminds that they need to find an excuse to reboot Superman just one more time to get the Snyder flavour washed off of him.

Anyway, the prevailing theory is that it's going to be an HBOmax show because they have bigger budgets for special effects.

It isn't the shrink cost tha is at issue... they have another shrinking charater in the wings.  Rumors are flying, we'll see what happens.

Ryan Choi became the Atom in the DC universe way back when, so I assume it's him that's being groomed if that's the case.

I don't normally watch Batwoman but I made an exception to see the fallout of Crisis, There were no noticeable changes until the last 60 seconds of the episode. It was a big one too. Supergirl had some change problems as well but nothing nearly as big as Batwoman.

The Supergirl status quo reset felt pretty damn big if you've watched the show regularly like have. Lots of interesting places they can go with it.

I just watched Black Lightning's post-crisis episode. I bailed on that show during it's first season. That's probably why I saw no differences in their world. There could have been a ton that just flew over my head since I'm not a huge fan. I mainly keep up with Flash, Supergirl and Legends.

Of note in the Supergirl episode - they believe there to only be one Earth, now.  Not multiple.  I'm betting they dig into that more in Flash.
