Title: Titans
Post by: palmer_eldritch on July 19, 2018, 07:50:48 AM
No that's not me saying Fuck Batman, it's Robin. Because TITANS is a dark and edgy version of the Teen Titans story

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QIYzdBAxcM8

Looks utter shit to me.

I liked the Marv Wolfman comics though.

Ummmm...

TBF, ever since the New 52 reboot of DC Comics, they have all settled into a "grim dark and edgy" place, which has pretty much been confirmed as the way forward by the recent inclusion of the Watchmen into the DC Universe proper.

This, however, looks... the word isn't good, per se, but maybe interesting? I don't know, the angry Robin is kind of silly sounding when the says "Fuck Batman."

That is the most shitty-shit superhero thing since...well, a LONG time. Totally ass looking and conceptually dead on arrival. "Fuck Batman"? Seriously?

Titans Go! already has this covered, anyway. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hH8aXw9Qhzk

Live action dc is garbage, even if it starts good (flash/arrow) somehow the garbage finds it's way in.

i'm not gonna sit here and carve out a place for the wretched animation that plagues every DC animated project

they may be leagues better than DCs live action shit, but they still look like canned ass

They are a fuckload better than Marvels Animated shit... *nerd fight nerd fight*

That's cause Marvel is too busy cranking out a handful of billion dollar movies a year to bother with dumb cartoons only comic book readers watch.

No one wants to argue about degrees among garbage.

In a strange twist, this is not total garbage.

I mean, it's not Great, but it's a lot less of a total flaming wreckage than I was led to suspect.

The trailers were horrible. Even "fuck Batman" worked in context. Not that it's great or anything but i enjoyed the season.

I like this too. It's good superhero drama, like the Netflix Marvel series, but with a darker, almost Watchmen vibe.

This very short thread has gone through quick a number of dramatic twists and turns, ending with me putting Titans on my list of things to try.

I'm up to episode 5 at the moment, Raven makes this watchable, Robin does his best to drag it down to normal DC drek.

I'm in it mostly for Starfire.  She's awesome.

This was actually pretty good. Binged it over four days. Has ups and downs, but its miles ahead of the generic CW DC shows.

So wait... are you telling me you all subscribed to that DC Universe thing? Or are you getting it in some other fashion?

Because if it's the former, how extensive has the comics section gotten? It was very threadbare on launch.

Jesus. I thought DC had finally learned that the whole grimdark thing is over.

Here on the states you had to subscribe to the DC service for it. Which was something like eight dollars so not sure what the big deal is. Obviously i only kept it for the one week it took to watch the show, but i spend more on candy on a regular basis.

Just finished this, it ends strong.  The Hawk and Dove episode was kinda beautiful, and the final episode was close to perfect.

Basically it just went onto Netflix everywhere that DC Universe isn't (most places outside the US).

And yeah Starfire is great and the Hawk and Dove episode is kind of beautiful. Robin is messed up.

I haven't finished the series yet, so I may not know what I'm talking about. But the episode I was thinking of ends on their rooftop.

It's kind of amazing that Starfire is being described as good and very comforting too that she is, given the intensity of early reaction to her. I know the coat seemed like a bad choice to me too.

The intensity of early reaction was entirely due to her melanin content.

Just watch this early scene: "Total badass." (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=glNLkkNGg7s)

Not even she knows why she's wearing the coat. She just is.

Man, if they'd made that a teaser, I don't think there would have been so much whining.

The Titans cartoon (pre-TT GO) did choose to play up the character's innocence while mostly forgetting the other part of her history: that she was trained relentlessly to be a warrior in a very unpleasant context and escaped slavery.

I thoroughly enjoyed S1, it was a great take on the DC universe and the Superman movies and Suicide Squad could have learned a lot from it.

This looked like a disjointed mess, smells like a disjointed mess and is only making the people who like references for the sake of references happy. I'll pass. Also this douche kinda sums up/confirms my general assumptions/fears about this show

Season 1 was great. Highly recommended.

I'm trying to make my way through Season 2 (which has come to Netflix). It feels like a different show made by different people, using the same actors. It's a confusing, long-winded mess. Part teen drama, part "let's have some dark bloody season 1 stuff". Season 2 Episode 1 resolves the cliffhanger ending of Season 1, and then a new storyline goes for a few episodes, then everything gets really messy, with the only redeeming part being the introduction of Superboy and his dog. I'm going to finish this, but it feels like it's been going forever. I'm on episode 11 or something and it feels like episode 31.

Just finished it (season 2). What a mess.

Iain Glen (Ser Friendzone on GoT) does an excellent job as Bruce Wayne. Dove smoulders with a hotness beyond her first season. Superboy and his creator are done well.

Everything else is all over the place. I was compelled to finish it because I guess I was entertained and I did want to know what happened.

I enjoyed most of the season, right up until the last 20 minutes of the last episode where it all felt contrived.

The casting of Bruce Wayne was great, having seen Iain Glenn in Dr Who and other non-GoT roles, he seems to just be good value and he certainly made up for the uneveness of Nightwing's character. I also came around to the depiction of Robin #2 - the character came a long way from S1. A certain animal catching a missile and tossing it back... that made my day. I hope the character returns.

I just finished watching this.  It is in parts retarded and excellent, sometimes from one scene to the next.  I really like the take on Dick Grayson, and even Robin number two.

Iain Glenn is a great Bruce Wayne.  Only trouble is that it is hard to picture him as Batman.  But, well, the didn’t really do that, so fine.

The ....I mean, fucking why.  There were others who seemed far more dispensible.

Finally watching this and Doom Patrol. Doom Patrol is fantastic. Titans is much better than I thought it would be.

Just finished watching Season 3. Lazarus Pits are a thing, and massively over-used. Scarecrow was an interesting villain, but I felt that the ending to the season was a bit of a let down.

Krypto needs his own series!

It's odd how well some remixing of Grant Morrison's story arcs and characters actually holds up.

Going to necro this and say that Season 4 was the best of them. As always there are a few hick ups (I didn't quite buy into Robin 3.0), but the rest was solid viewing. This was the last of the series and the writers finished it in a good place. Raven, Starfire and Gar all sold the show to me
I wouldn't say it was great viewing, but it was entertaining. Superboy/Lex was excellent although I wish it had been taken further. Franka Potente (Mother Mayhem) and Joseph Morgan (Sebastian Blood/ Brother Blood) were excellent as antagonists.
