Do you still kill one monster at a time?

you never just killed one monster at a time

Better Thor tie in than Marvel Heroes.

Unexpected.  The original game and Immortal Throne expac together are on sale for like $5 on Steam.

I still have the full box of this one in my cupboard.  I remembered it being a huge disappointment.

Most Diablo clones are a huge disappiontment.

Ya'll remember wrong. This isn't only the best [diablo clone], but you can change the game speed and it's just a joy.

Hrm, I also remember at the time literally everybody saying it was a shittier diablo clone.  Thus why I never bothered.  May give it a whirl at some point if the expansions made things better.

I liked TQ, especially with the expansion.  I think it's worth picking up on Steam, if you haven't played it.

One thing that kills it for me is the static maps though.  I prefer Diablo's attempts at same style of layout, with some randomization.  That's only a problem if you want to roll multiple alts though.

I do remember Schild loving it.  I never understood why, so I ain't going to bother reinstalling it now, especially since PoE tends that itch just fine.

For $3.99 it's hard to go wrong. I've spent much more on worse...

Better than Torchlight and PoE?  I'm not sure about that one.  I played a lot of TitanQuest.  It's a good game, but utterly forgettable.  I'm hoping that Grim Dawn will eventually be the better clone.  They just need to incorporate a few of the mods first.

Does the expansion add anything to the base game? I've never played it, but I was wondering if I ought to buy Ragnarok too and start from the beginning. If it only adds new zones at end/late game, there's no need to buy it yet.

Torchlight never reached half it's potential.

My thoughts on PoE are well documented. Titan quest is the better feeling of the two by miles.

It adds an entire class...

I loved TQ, played through it once. The ancient Greece motif did something special for me, since it was around the time I was studying it in college.

Spent $4 on this today just top re-live the nostalgia.

Love the greek motif.  Love the story and immersion.  Enjoy the dialogue.

Forgot how much Grim Dawn ripped this off.

Needs more LOOTY LOOT!

Grim Dawn team is the Titan Quest team afaik. The loot is very top heavy unfortunately.

Yeah, it's much the same team for the two games, I believe.  It's why I had hopes for Grim Dawn.

Ah, interesting.  Grim Dawn has been my favorite of all the Diablo clones (though I haven't tried PoE for several years now, so maybe its improved drastically).  I'll give it a try based on that alone.

I keep having false starts because I can't choose a class.  What're you guys playing?

^That's a pretty solid build guide. I had a lot of fun with Storm/Warfare (Thane), though I'm not sure how 'end build' quality stands up.

^Builder, but without the newest class yet.

I've been having my best luck with a spear hunter.  Something a little tanky seems easiest at first.

this was an amazing diablo clone, loved it, the over the top ragdoll back when that was still pretty new amused me for hours.

necro new content for it is a super unexpected surprise

Must be pretty rusty, I started a game out pure Warfare and got absolutely wrecked by the early centaur boss.  Restarted and went Defender instead, got through but just barely.  Everything seems much smoother after that.

You’re not rusty, that first boss has always been ridiculously untuned and build dependent.

If you don't pick up a good weapon by the first boss, he will regen faster than you can damage him.  It's oddly tuned.

Didn't Grim Dawn just come out with an expansion like last week also?

It's hard for me to go back to Titan Quest nowadays. The start just feels so incredibly slow going, even more so than most other Diablo-likes. Minutes into Diablo 3 and I'm doing cool shit, and the cool shit in PoE comes a couple of hours in. A couple hours into Titan Quest and I'm still using basic melee attacks with maybe some kind of toggle skill.

About a month back, yeah. Two new masteries. Two new acts. General "more of everything" type improvements. Personally, I played about half an hour of Titan Quest and switched over to GD instead. I'm sure I'll eventually go check out the new TQ content, but other than actually having non-muted colors in its palette, I don't see what the selling point for TQ is over Grim Dawn other than more nostalgia.

I like the Titan Quest setting and classes more than Grim Dawn.

I don't care for the useless shit in either games inventories, but Grim Dawns for whatever reason annoys me more.

I like the Titan Quest setting and classes more than Grim Dawn.

I have to agree with this.  If the pacing were a bit better, I would adore Titan Quest.  Did the expansion improve it any?

Mechanics-wise I like Grim Dawn more and it has a number of QOL improvements over TQ, but man I just don't think that Grim Dawn expansion is good. The content is just bland. The level design is crap, there's nothing interesting about any of the enemies, and there's not really any theme to it. Honestly the base game can be enough of a slog to go through after the first time that adding another act onto it that's just more of the same almost feels like punishment. Haven't gone through this TQ expansion yet but I'm hoping it's at least slightly more interesting.

You can get this a bit cheaper at the Humble Bundle store right now.  It's 33% off compared to it being 25% off on Steam.

My mistake, it's only cheaper because I get a discount for having the Humble Monthly.

Decided to go with a sword & board Conqueror (warfare and defense) to replay the game.  Speccing Defender first helped a ton with getting over the hump of the early bosses, although DPS is troublesomely low.  Once again, the biggest issue I have with this genre is choosing a build and sticking to it.
