Title: Avengers Alliance 2
Post by: Sky on April 26, 2016, 01:33:01 PM
Anyone playing this one? I've been messing with it for almost a month now, it's a nice small chunk game with light strategy, no hard paywall (in my casual experience), and decent collect-em-all-ness. Also, Marvel.

I'm using the Heroes for Hire, Iron Fist starts out kinda wimpy, but at lvl 20 he gets a pre-emptive strike that I paired with an item set that give him a reaction strike. Power Man has an ability for a reaction strike as well as an innate for a reaction strike when a teammate makes a melee attack. So they tend to get a crapload of free mediocre attacks.

I usually play them with Iron Man for nukes, game promotes offensive 'pvp'. Not sure how they set up the 'pvp' portion, but it pits you against other players' heroes...if they've done proper upgrading it's beastly. Tiered monthly rewards, I've unlocked Nova and will probably be able to unlock Nova's rare 3-star power by the weekend (with my fairly well-set up team, I still get whomped on by about 1/3 of the 'pvp' teams).

You can upgrade boost items (with a socket mini game), ability quality, hero quality, unlock abilities (and of course heroes), missions for 10/20/30.

Good adhd game :p Probably not great if you want to power through everything immediately with no money.

Should note, the game has some serious crash bugs. Usually when going from one game mode to another. The pisser is that it costs resources to use a game mode, and the crashes occur after the game takes the resources and starts loading the mode. Most problematic for scouting missions, because that currency has the slowest regeneration.

My advice: exit the game and restart when you want to do a different mode (missions/pvp/scouting/spec ops).

Really my only complaint about the game, which I see as a good thing.

Update in anticipation of Civil War content fixed crash bug, seemingly.

Couple of decent looking heroes up for promo. 1901 Cap if you complete a fairly easy set of tasks by 7/13, and Dethlok as pvp award of the month.

I've started playing this, almost everytime I go into the Equip screen the game hangs.  Leaving/returning doesn't help, have to power off/on the ipad.  Is there something I could be doing apart from not going into the equip screen or powering off?

Dunno, I'm on Android. Had some crashing issues when I first started, but they were quickly patched. I also stick to my phone, my tablet was underpowered for the graphics.

I guess the usual, check the forums/support site, put in a ticket, etc. They seem responsive to gamestoppers.

I get the same thing on my Android phone.  It works fine the first couple of times, but after I've been playing a while, it locks up if I go to the Equip menu.  No issue with any of the other menus, though.

Yeah, that's it exactly.

Anyone know how to level up abilities?  I can't figure it out and have been motivated enough to look online.

In the hero panel under Trials. Pay resource to unlock trial, use ability X times to level it. Trials also star up heroes, though the trials are a bit trickier.

Wow. Disney is shutting both Avengers Alliance games down at the end of the month. Way to make sure nobody ever puts money into a Disney f2p mobile again (luckily, I play these as a f2p).

Since Disney also owns Star Wars, I wonder if this is a sign of Heroes inevitable fate?

W.T.F??? Well screw you too Disney Mobile. This isn't some ten year old game nobody was playing, so it'll be a cold day indeed before I install another Disney owned game. A cold day indeed.

Honestly, you read stuff like this:

Quote
To become a game publisher in the modern era — to compete with the Activisions and Nintendos and EAs of the world on the same scale that they operate — requires both a tremendous financial investment and a tremendous time investment. You will almost certainly fail along the way, and you have to take those failures and keep going. It's about making careful bets and digging in on those bets.

"You have to have enough scale to do four or five of these bets in order to make one of them pop and have a profit at the end," Seropian said. "If you're at a company that's well capitalized and has a 5-10 year view? Great, you can do that.

..and Disney's reluctance to take those risks, from a purely capitalist viewpoint, is entirely understandable. It's a high-risk business with large costs and slow product cycles. By going down the licensing-only route Disney get some money regardless of how shitty a game some company churns out.

If they couldn't turn a profit with an active Marvel game (that actually had great mechanics, I enjoyed most of it more than Star Wars Heroes but SW has better daily/collectible aspects), they just suck. They could've left it on life support for a couple years and had money dribble in for almost nothing.

they just suck.

I would never argue that Disney don't suck :)

At least we'll still have Marvel Pinball.
