Title: LEGO Worlds
Post by: apocrypha on June 02, 2015, 12:47:45 PM
Now in Steam Early Access (http://store.steampowered.com/app/332310/).

I don't know much about it other than that it's being developed by Traveller's Tales, who've done all the other Lego games. Oh, and that they've had/got a bit of a penis (http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2015-06-01-lego-mmo-development-dogged-by-dong-detection-software) problem. I swear that's safe to click.

Anyone tried it? Lego Worlds I mean, not penis.

It's not for me.

Penis I mean, I'm sure I'll check out LEGO worlds if they offer a trial.

It's only £12/ $15 for the game at the moment. I'm tempted to stump up for that just because. Reckon my kids will get several hours of enjoyment out of it to make the purchase worthwhile.

The thing that keeps me is the usual Early Access part. I mean, how more developed is this than Landmark for example? Because it's nor prettier as a building tool, so if it is in a similar state of uncompleteness, then I see no point. If it's far beyond that, then I'd love to go for it. Who's gonna take one for the team?

EDIT: Here's a First Look video. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l1aLvvyvP5w)

Cheers Falc, I'll watch that video later. I feel largely the same as you - not interested in Early Access at the moment, but I'll keep an eye on it.

Couple of guesses though: first this looks ripe for microtrans, or at the very least product tie-ins with real Lego sets. Secondly, no mods probably. If they're very keen on retaining a U PEGI rating then allowing content changes with mods seems unlikely.

Yeah, it's pretty much telegraphed by their physical goods model that it's rmt gold; correspondingly there won't be mods.

I used this as my first opportunity to request a Steam refund.

You build stuff with lego bricks. It's a good example of how being able to do more isn't necessarily better. I found the interface fiddly compared to Minecraft - largely because there are many brick types, and you have to position them just-so to get them to land where you want.

I was also thinking of my kid, and couldn't imagine why I'd rather do this over playing with real lego with him. So back it went.

Well, do some pieces get so stuck that you have to use a virtual set of teeth to pull them apart, after which those pieces have permanent bite marks?

This is now live, v1, if anyone is still interested.
