Title: Mr. Robot
Post by: Evildrider on May 28, 2015, 01:04:52 AM
Trailer here. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ug4fRXGyIak)

New show on USA:

In MR. ROBOT, Elliot, a cyber-security engineer by day and vigilante hacker by night, is recruited by a mysterious underground group to destroy the firm he's paid to protect. Elliot must decide how far he'll go to expose the forces he believes are running (and ruining) the world.

Caught the first episode of this.  Looks pretty good so far and will definitely give it a few episodes.

The first episode was pretty good and hopefully they can keep it up (though there's no guarantee if the first episode was made as a pilot).
My hope/prediction:

The whole anti-corporation/illuminati thing seems like fight club without the fighting part anyways.

They just announced a pick up for Season 2 in front of the premiere tonight.  That makes me pretty happy.

The second episode wasn't bad and stayed true to the pilot (which is a good thing in this case).

Given that she definitely interacted with her in this last episode, we can scratch the theory that all of fsociety is a figment. Jury is still out on Mr Robot, so far he hasn't interacted with anyone but some MiB's that were also possible figments. He gave orders to fsociety, but that could have been disassociation.

Ya, it looks full on Tyler Durden.

I'm hoping that Mr. Robot turns out to be the imaginary fall guy that will get all the blame in the last episode of the season thereby letting the main character avoid any charges for all the illegalities he does before that (a hybrid between Kayzer Soze and Tyler Durden...that's if they can do a decent reveal in Usual Suspects style).

I noticed when mr robot gave orders to fsociety he stepped right in front Elliot who kinda faded into the background.

This show is the mutant offspring of Fight Club and Pi.  Needs more Aphex Twin, Orbital and menacing Hasidic Jews, though.

One of the things I like the most about the show is the narrating.  It reminds me of Dexter.

The start and the ending of the episode were really strong (the middle was a bit weak but still very watchable)

This is really, really fucking good.

I keep working out what's going to happen... but only 30 seconds before it does. It's plot confusing in a good way, unlike True Detective. I'm going to have to go back and re-watch this with a notebook and pencil to hand.

I finally was able to watch the first season of this thanks to Prime Video. HOLY FUCK. This was so goddamn good. The scene where Elliot breaks down at the end and confesses to the shrink was just amazing acting, writing and shooting. The lead is fantastic.

The finale confused the fuck out of me. I kept waiting for Elliot to wake up.

Now I have to watch the current season with On Demand, meaning no fast forwarding commercials most likely. Still. Worth it.

I got mindfucked as well.

As far as Craig, the theories suggest he was probably the Warden, he had him beaten and placed into solitary.  He was the only one able to give Elliot internet access which he used contact his friends, and later the fbi, while he was working on the site.  The people raiding Craigs office were probably FBI shawshank redemtion style.

Love the mindfuck twist. Just brilliant.

And we are going down a completely different rabbit hole now. I swear, as soon as you think you know where this is going, it tells you "Fuck off, we ain't doing that."

Title: Re: Mr. Robot
Post by: Shannow on September 06, 2016, 09:47:16 AM
Am I the only one, after last season, who's reaction to the 'twist' was a big
pile of meh?  Not trying to hate for hate sake as I love this show but it did nothing for me, part of the problem is that it did nothing to the plot. Just Elliot stuck in his head for 8 episodes.  Should've been done in 2.

Title: Re: Mr. Robot
Post by: HaemishM on September 06, 2016, 11:18:05 AM
It's just you.  :why_so_serious:

My only problem with this season has been the wheel spinning that seems to be going on with Angela's character. I have no idea what anything going on around her means and if she was as crazy as Elliot, I'd expect this whole season has been in her head.

Title: Re: Mr. Robot
Post by: apocrypha on September 06, 2016, 11:21:56 AM
Yeah it's just you! A large part of this show is specifically about Elliot's head, and what goes on inside it. Which I think also applies to Angela. For me a lot of this season so far has been about the different pulls on her - deeper into E-Corp and the dead-eyed corporate zombie she could become or drawn more into F-Society and the revenge for he mother that path could afford her.

The best games are always head games and this show is full of them.

Yeah, I just started watching this yesterday as well.  Still not through the first episode because reasons, but it's one of the more compelling first episodes I've seen in a long time.  Not sure why I put this one off for so long.

Finished season 1. I think I liked it? I don't know. Some of the storylines and filler were just terrible. Which I guess is what happens when you stretch Fight Club out to 10 hours. How could they possibly do a season 2 though?

Title: Re: Mr. Robot
Post by: Shannow on September 12, 2016, 12:37:44 PM
The stretching gets worse but I'm told I'm in the minority on this one.

It does get better later in the 2nd season.

The other reason I keep watching is that Esmail has already said its only going 4-5 seasons.  I so prefer shit which has an already defined arc.

Just finished season two and enjoyed the ride (and definitely enjoyed the mid-season twist/reveal, though I think they could have tightened up the first half by about an episode's worth of time).  I feel like season one's plotting and placing were more consistent, but while it was much more up and down season two had plenty of great moments.  Hoping season three evens stuff out a bit and explores some new places.

Title: Re: Mr. Robot
Post by: HaemishM on January 27, 2018, 11:51:28 PM
I finally just finished watching season 3. Definitely a show that's kind of lost its way a bit - I don't think they had a plan for what happens after fsociety "destroys the world." The performances and cinematography are what make it continually worth watching. The guy who returns at the end of the finale was the drug dealer from season 1, if you didn't know. I had to look it up to be sure.
