Title: Affection
Post by: DraconianOne on November 06, 2014, 02:31:44 PM
A new thread!

So I've been sucked back into this after a break of far too long and figured something I haven't done is raise affection with my companions. So looking for useful pointers as to the best way to go about this after getting to 50. Is it just going to be a companion gift grind or is it possible to do via dailies as well?

Is it even worth it? (I'm assuming that the presence bonus makes it worth it?)

You could theoretically do it with some of the dailies; the old Belsavis dailies (the bonus series, not Section X) give rep, for example. Gift grind is orders of magnitude faster though.

Cheers.

Didn't do much in the way of Belsavis Dailies so that'll keep me amused for an hour or so I guess. :)

It would take months of daily quests to do what the gift grind can do in like, 5 minutes. Of course those 5 minutes could cost you hundreds of thousands of credits too depending on the gifts.  :why_so_serious:

The presence bonus is great if you are super into alts, it makes your companion completely overpowered for like the first 20-30 levels of the game.

I usually focus on gifts as my choices when leveling mission skills; that usually provides enough that I don't have to buy many at all.

I usually buy stacks of the level 1 and level 2 gifts from the vendor on Fleet and use them until the companion is at 8000 affection.   Cost is 300k or so, and involves a lot of clicking.   Then I have the conversations with the companion, which typically puts them at 9000 affection.  Then I buy 4-5 max level gifts to get from 9000 to 10,000.  Actually I've accumulated max level gifts from mission skills and I just use those as necessary; the GTN is a pain to use as there are 100 pages of gifts and they don't sort by level or by type.

That's like, super inefficient cost and time wise. The first like 2-4k rep is only like 20-30k If I recall.  :why_so_serious:

You could spend half that money and time with like 5 mins of looking on tor-head or whatever for the right high tier gift to buy of the gtn.

Actually, done the math and the cost comes out to about the same, because high tier gifts on the GTN are pricey, approx. 5k each.   Max rep they give is 200, which is equivalent to 8 tier2 vendor gifts that give 25 for 600 credits each.  4.8k vs. 5k, equivalent.

As far as time ... G510 keyboard, it can hand things in while I watch TV for 10 min.

A purple rank 5 loved gift gives 384 to 586 rep depending on what tier you're already at with the companion; your math is way off.

Just re-subbed and I LOVE how each gift now says how much general affection gain you get if you use that gift on your current companion.  Nice change there.
