The space stuff was just a little side activity callback to Rebel Assault, this is supposed to be something different, but we really don't know what yet. Other than there are apparently at least 2 new ships.

A space warfront does sound more plausible than sandboxy space flight, though.

Pretty much this, Bioware hasn't actually said anything about space stuff besides that teaser video.
