Title: X-Com
Post by: Venkman on June 24, 2013, 05:13:31 PM
Anyone pick this up for iPad? I only played the Steam Demo, because by the time that came out, they had announced the looming iPad port. But as far as I can tell this is the same game. No real quibbles and plays very well. It's also a much better game to play during work than the latest social networking "game"  :awesome_for_real:

If I hadn't bought it already on the PC I definitely would buy it here. I don't get why people get mad about the price though, exactly the same game cost 50 dollars on the PC, no?

People expect AAA titles for $0.99 on smartphones. It's been a race to the bottom since Apple created the iOS App Store.

$10 is about my upper limit for something I'll play while pooping, watching bad TV, or waiting at a Doctor's office.   I won't go for Square's $18 for a premium port, and I don't see myself moving up to this either.

edit: Helps that I already played this.  :awesome_for_real:

I paid 12? Bucks for a title from an indie developer. It was worth it and I didn't mind supporting a small shop. 20 bucks?  Fuck off.

Cheap bastards  :awesome_for_real:

I probably wouldn't have either if I had already bought the PC version.

But this is not a mobile game. It's a port of the original big-development-budget PC game.

The porting of this game could very well have cost as much as any of the normal mobile titles on the Top 10 lists. Diner Dash Rush did not have the same initial budget as X-com on the PC.

Having said all that, it might have been smarter to launch a $2.99 version that only took you through the whole tutorial levels and then however much for the remainder.

I'm sure I'm not alone in seeing launch prices of games as just the starting point for their eventual discounting.

I wouldn't pay $20 for it, but I watch out (http://savygamer.co.uk/) for cheap deals all the time and will pick it up for $10 in 6 months time, sure.  :awesome_for_real:
