Title: Arrested Development
Post by: Ozzu on May 04, 2013, 02:31:29 AM
With the return scheduled for May 26th on Netflix, I figured this was a good time for a thread.

I just finished up watching the existing 3 seasons in the last few days. I really enjoyed it. I'm not sure I remember a show so densely packed with comedic absurdity as this show is. Great stuff.

And just so many memorable characters, memorable quotes, absurd situations, etc.

So many callbacks, meta-references and foreshadowing in this show it blows your mind watching it again.  I, too, recently rewatched and was surprised how often something that happened later was foreshadowed early on.  Like Buster losing his hand to the seal.  He spent all that time on the claw machine getting the stuffed seal, the hand chair and there's a few one-liners about lost limbs. Then *bam*  And the way they do it. Just as a throwaway line at the end if the episode.

Season 5 will be here soon... and there will be a recut of Season 4 (out Friday) that mixes the character stories rather than keeping them one episode per character.

Seriously? Okay, I actually have a friend that stopped watching season 4 because of the character centric episodes and the way it forced non-linearity so I'll have to pass this along...

I watched the first 3 revised 20 minute episodes.  The cut together is a bit rough - it creates some odd pacing.  However, it is much better than original flavor Season 4 - which seems to no longer be available in the original format.

It is still available supposedly but hidden in the trailers and more section for the show.

I also gave up on season four so I'm pleased about this.

I'm almost done with the rewatch.  You can't download them, so it is a bit of a pain to find the time to watch them...

The reordering and editing works for most of the series, but there are some chronological challenges that just don't line up.  I prefer the new order, and am waiting for Season 5 (May 29th!) eagerly.  However, I kind of wish he'd cut a lot of stuff from the revised season to make it cleaner rather than fit it all in with the forced timing issues.
