Hm, I never did play Age of Empires 3. Anyone know if it has a decent single-player campaign?

KOTOR 1 and 2 were both 75% off so I bought them. 5.00 well spent IMO. Assuming I play them.  :why_so_serious:

It's ok. Other two campaigns are better than the original campaign, but I found them worth $10 easily for the "Complete" version.

And why is this?  I've never done this Autumn Sale thing...I presume the prices get cheaper as the sale goes on?

Am looking at picking up the GTA IV Complete pack.  It doesn't appear to be either part of a Flash or Daily deal.

Title: Re: Hide your monies, it's the Autumn Steam Sale

Very often, a game that is -25/33 or even 50% off at first, at SOME point in the sales will get even further discount.
Sucks to buy Skyrim at -33% Day one then find out day 5 they decided to go CRAaaaAAzzzzY and do a -75% sale

It's soild Steam Sale advise to hold off on non-dailies.

I'm headed out of town for the weekend; so glad they put Xcom up for sale.  I had enough Steam credit to cover almost the whole thing except $5.00, which is awesome.  I think I've got all my 2012 games now, with the exception of upcoming Far Cry 3, which will have to wait until I have a better rig.

I find it kind of hilarious that AoE III's normal price on Steam is still $40  for a three-year-old collection of a seven-year-old game and its nearly as old expansions.

It's like when 3DRealms was still charging $50 for Duke Nukem 3D on their page's store back in like 2007.

"Rage" or "Dead Island" ? (deal expiring in less than seven hours as I write this)

Dead Island is the least bad of the two.

Some people really like Dead Island, but I didn't care for it. "Something else" is a pretty good option.

Post by: Rendakor on November 22, 2012, 08:07:39 AM
I thought Dead Island was pretty fun; it's sort of a Borderlands with Zombies, except with melee weapons instead of guns.

Dead Island is also much better if you play it co-op rather than solo.

Hoping to pick up Dishonored and the Skyrim DLC, if either go sufficiently on sale. They're both slightly discounted already, so it's just a matter of catching them when they're on a daily or flash.

About last year: anyone remembers if, among the "most wanted" titles, some were *discounted* during the autumn sale but NOT during the Xmas one? (because, hey, remember that you can keep your wallet safe for a few more weeks if you don't want to purchase anything right now :P)

I pretty much have all the games I want (plus a few more cuz at $2.00 or free at steamgifts why the heck not?) I'm just waiting on XCom to go on sale for 50+% off. I'm thinking I may be waiting awhile.

It seems Steam has pity on my poor soul and doesn't let me buy games during this sale. Starting with Max Payne 3, I get a transaction error when trying to pay.

Loving this new "Stop buying games you will never play just because they are cheap" feature.

Sadly, I was able to buy Age of Empires 3 and Rage before this Common Sense feature kicked in.  :awesome_for_real:

Got a lot of praise back in it's day on XBLA. Looks neat, never played.

I will pile it into the "want to love it, because" bin alongside "will never play more than 5-10 minutes of this"

Gamersgate had Dishonored for 50% off so I went for that because I can benefit from paying in GBP. On Steam, I couldn't resist Prototype 2. I adored the first game because it has some of the same writers as the Call of Cthulhu tabletop RPG spinoff Delta Green, the best campaign setting known to man.

Well I picked up the Skyrim DLC since it was 50% off, or at least it said it was!

Dawnguard was $10 and Hearthfire was $2.50. For some reason when the purchase went through it became $13.00 for Dawnguard and $3.something for hearthfire. Odd, but it's $3 and I make good money so fuck it.

Looks like it charged you the previous 33% off price it was this morning. When my roommate decided to buy me the 2 dlcs for $16.xx as he bought them for himself.

Never buy anything that's not a daily deal until the last day of a steam sale.

My house is the only non-farm around me so no Farming Simulator tyvm!  And if I want the whole 'forklift experience' I'll drive one at work.

Now if someone made a Hipster Simulator where you sit in Starbucks and work on your screenplay then I'm in!

On topic:  I stayed strong on this sale.  AoE III almost got bought but SWTOR has me pretty occupied.

I really have to hold myself back on the sales, I never even have enough time to play half the stuff I get off Steam.  But Deus Ex for five bucks? Yeah, I'm giving that a shot.

How's the DLC?  Should I grab that too?

I liked Missing Link.  If you like the base game, it's more of the same.  Some fun places to sneak around, a bit of exposition, nothing that really deviates from the base game too much.  It was worth the money I paid for it, I thought.  It's a standalone thing, though, so you won't be bringing your guy from the main campaign in there with an inventory full of ammo, or take anything from it to the main storyline.

The other stuff is kind of unnoticeable.  The extra gear one is okay, but I haven't found anything that really changes the way the game is played yet, and the extra mission is just another side quest.  For less than a buck, I'd go for it because hey, it's a buck, but otherwise I don't see that much difference.

Torchlight 2 only $10!

Hah, wow, thanks for mentioning this, I totally didn't notice this somehow, despite it being right there on the front page.  I was waiting for it and everything.

Almost made it through the sale without buying anything... and then today I grabbed the DLC for Deus Ex, Dragon Age: Origins Ultimate, Orcs Must Die! 2 Complete, and both Batman games (GOTY versions), for barely more than $30 total.

Only two things on my list of games to get that I didn't grab were Max Payne 3 and Dishonoured, and I passed on them because there's no way I'll have the time to touch them before the Christmas sale when they might be even cheaper.

An important thing to remember (as I pointed out with Shogun), is that when a game goes on sale, all DLC and expansions go with it.  So currently the Gods and Kings expansion to Civ V is 75% off, in case any of you where interested in that one (as I was).

I'll wait 'til Christmas because of RL stuff (and because I expect they'll propose similar deals during the Xmas sale), but Arkham City GOTY + The Witcher 2 + Orcs Must Die 2 + Legend of Grimrock for a grand total of € 19.21 is quite a good deal.

Picked up Saints Row the Third and all DLC for 12.50, plus XCOM for 33, Star Wars Empire At War for 10 bucks, plus got Arkham City GoTY on PS3 for 10 bucks at a local store on Black Friday. Still trying to figure out when exactly I'll find the time to play all these.

If you don't own Just Cause 2 yet, it's $3.74 in a flash sale.

You'd be fucking crazy not to try it out for that price. It's a really REALLY fun explorer type game that will give you hilarious amounts of fun blowing shit up, jumping out of planes and blowing shit up, free diving off buildings that are about to blow up, and running cars into other cars so they blow up. All with the use of your handy-dandy unlimited parachute created by SCIENCE!

Yeah, I might not be able to resist that one either.  But before I do that, what is the general word about Witcher 2?  I might have to grab that one instead/as well.

Already picked up Saints Row 3 and the GTA 4 complete edition.  All for less than the price of a pair of tighty whities.  Some of these sales are insane.

If you search, there's a thread here about Witcher 2.  I didn't care for what little I could tolerate of it.  EE patch didn't do much for me either.  Some liked it.  I was a big fan of the original.

While I liked the setting, questing, and dialogue; I really hated the way the game controlled and was a little annoyed at how they updated some of the characters (made everyone younger, Triss looks like a coed).  Minigames were pretty shitty as well (sucked in the first, tbh).

edit: For $7.50, it might be worth a roll of the dice.  If you hate it.. oh well, you're out a burrito.

Get the burrito, IMO.

Witcher 2 suffers from a case of pretentious / 'trying too hard' storytelling and dialogue in addition to the weird and clunky combat that somehow managed to be less engaging than the original.

Edit: also, QTEs. I mean, seriously?

So I guess I missed CK2 at 75% off, but it's still 50% off and at $20 I might pull the trigger. Is it worth grabbing the DLCs as well?

I liked Witcher 2 just fine. Don't play it on high levels of difficulty though. The combat is really clunky if you don't just hack your way around.

I guess the only good thing about being in the hospital having my gall bladder removed is I didn't waste any money on games I'll never play. :awesome_for_real:
Freaky.  My friend had hers removed yesterday.

... Jen?

Islam DLC is only useful if you want to play as a Muslim nation.  All the other changes from SoI are in the patches to CK2.

Byzantine DLC (Legacy of Rome) is supposedly a bunch of stuff for Byzantine rulers that I have not tried yet, like blinding/castrating prisoners, and other random Byzantine stuff, but I am still muddling along with my Sweden game from just after SoI and haven't investigated those nations.... BUT the retinues that also come with the DLC for everyone are incredibly useful.   Borderline too-powerful maybe, even.

Aztec DLC (Sunset Invasion) is basically 'do you want Aztec invasion y/n?'

I got all these when they came out, plus the cosmetic ones as well (faces/shields/units), because they were cheap and I like the game a lot and it's a pretty unique thing I want to encourage.   I didn't get the music because I am always listening to something else, nor the ruler designer because I just felt like using the historical peoples.

So just a few trains for me this time around  (a lot of American steam which wasn't deliberate)

  • Train Simulator 2013 - Union Pacific Big Boy + Union Pacific Challenger
  • RailWorks 3 - PRR K4 Locomotive
  • Railworks GG1

Yeah, I ended up getting it anyway after watching a few video reviews.  Looks like the kinda thing I'd find to be worth the small outlay of cash I sacrificed.

All told, I got Saints Row the Third, the GTA 4 Complete Edition and Witcher 2 for something under 20 euros.  That is insanely cheap for where I live.  I can't believe I have overlooked these Steam sales in the past.

Can someone tell me a bit about Crusader Kings II? I've glanced at it once or twice, but...

I already own several Total War games - how is this different?

One is a RTS and the other has you in panic as your eldest son dies in an accident (though you suspect your second wife had something to do with it) and now your heir is a syphilitic idiot that everybody hates :drill:

It isn't so much like Total War. Think of Hearts of Iron, Europa Universalis and other Paradox grand strategy games.

This is the best one they have made to date. Oh and there is a Game of Thrones Total Conversation for it. http://citadel.prophpbb.com/topic520.html (http://citadel.prophpbb.com/topic520.html)

Just to follow something up from earlier, I find Witcher 2 to be quite okay.  I am not sure about the actual gameplay yet, but the whole thing feels rather epic.  And I loooove the music so far.  Definitely worth the price of a burrito.

God, I wish I could have a burrito.
