Pretty sure we can just run one of these for all LOLSTORY discussions.  Onward to page 2... of the thread list!

I kept hearing the Consular story was poor, but I kind of like it. It's hard to make a proper jedi interesting (they're basically shit happens let's all try and be calm types. Boooring. Every movie plot jedi was a SHIT jedi, order rules wise), but I think they did a great job of letting me be both humble and compassionate.

Smuggler line is goddamned AWESOME though. It's just the right mix of hilarious and serious/pissed off.

Sith inquisitor starter planet spoilers, near the end:

I played the agent story line up to getting to the fleet. For a secret undercover agent picked for your ability to be autonomous, you had your hand held tighter than a mother leading her toddler across a parking lot.

This isn't particularly spoily, because I am going to be vague:

The inquisitor starting companion >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> consular starting companion. Also everything that comes out of my inquisitor's mouth is solid fucking gold.

I made it up to Nar Shaddaa on an Imperial Agent and up to getting my ship on my Inquisitor. I liked the Inquisitor story a lot more.

Funny, I hated Khem and found him an much weaker tank than Qyzen.

Hey, back off of Khem. You try to tank in a loincloth, see how that goes for you.

I will not.  If you are going to act all badass and talk about eating masters and shit you better back it up.  Oh, you are weakened right now?  How about you shut your cake hole then?  Also, the real problem with both is the jibberspeak while you are out smashing stuff.

Khem rocks out force armor. Of course, I called him Crackle since that is all he seems to do. Updating his armor with some drops helps tremendously as well as giving him a new weapon. I outfitted him with DK comms gear and he worked much better. Still, there was that bug with tanking companions having no armor bonuses or something to that effect.

and...

Title: Re: Storylines (Annotate your spoilers!)
Post by: kildorn on November 29, 2011, 10:51:58 AM
Khem seems stoic and pissy, which is okay for his theme.

Qyzen is just really fucking annoying with his constant scorekeeper nonsense, and the entire reason he's with you seems reaaaaallly sketchy for a jedi to go along with to me.

"I still pretty much don't care." is another great, Saharan-dry delivery, one liner to that twat of a soldier who begs for  her help. Utterky impassive evil. I love it.

I am not sure you can consider either companions reason for hanging around with you especially compelling.  You beat Khem in a fight and he spends the rest of the game screaming about eating people AND he swears revenge on you?  Qyzen lost his honor and considers you the herald of his deity because you rescue him?

That is nut-sack simple but accurate.

I think Khem finds you interesting - and convenient. He's in a new world, and maybe he sees more of his old Master in you that he lets on, either to you or to himself.

So for which is better mechanically, Qyzen seems to outdamage Khem. Khem gets some life drain stuff going on, but I'm not sure how much it really matters.

The point being that saying one of those stories is somehow superior and the other nonsense is baffling.  Why would you travel with a thing THAT WANTS TO EAT YOU?  The intention in this system is having companions with ideas and motivations that might not jive with what your own character believes, that's why.

The male voice actor is so good in that role, at least following the light side path. And for release, I'll have to use the same avatard as I did in the 367 weekend, since that's what the voice is connected to in mah brain.

I liked Qyzen, he reminds me of my SWG character Sarsippius. Pez, not because you rescue him, but because you show him the path to return to honor and rack up a good score. I thought it was pretty well done.

I hope the Knight at some point gets a companion who is down with the dark side. T7 just didn't like me, and Kira likes my snarky replies, but not my habit of chopping people up and being generally unhelpful on unimportant (as I see them) missions. If it doesn't have anything to do with destroying the Sith Empire, it's a waste of his time!

Because for now, he'll eat other people for me. In theory. Really, I just like that I can go "fuck it, Khem, could you eat this motherfucker?" in exasperation. Qyzen doesn't even have that going for him.

And put me down for liking the consular story (what I saw, anyway). The male voice actor is very good. Fordel hates the lady one, I am hoping he's just being too hard on her, the little I played of a female consular didn't put me off, though. He hears "bored," I hear "mellow." They're just mellow in general, both of them. Which makes spiking a huge rock off someone's face all the more satisfying.

Perplexed by how they will add gay romance options as a post launch feature. Do you continue to adventure, meet new companions etcat level 50 or will you have to go back to earlier zones? I know its not hugely relevant to most but purely in terms of mechanics I wonder how they plan on doing that.

It's nota proper bio ware game without also fulfilling my dating sim requirements!

In this case, increase the cap to level 60, insert companion at level 51.

Play Republic then.  Even with the LS/DS choices, you have to accept the general vibe that Rep = LS and Emp = DS, with the overall story progression being sided respectively for either.

The Romance convo's all happen on your ship basically, it wouldn't be hard at all to add in another that makes your potential gay love interest go "I've never thought of you that way, TILL NOW!", then you just go through them as normal.

Not the specific Romance ones for the most part. A few other personal and story driven convo's, require you to be on your ship. The companion will tell you specifically, "I need to talk to you on the ship" instead of the usual "We need somewhere private".

The convo's will make use of your ships holo terminal, or specific rooms on the ship etc.

Internet wisdom seems to suggest:

Awesome plotlines:
 - Inquistor
 - Smuggler
 - Agent

Good plotlines:
 - Warrior
 - Trooper

Mediocre plotlines:
 - Bounty Hunter
 - Consular
 - Knight

Is this about right?

If the Consular's plot is mediocre, I'm psyched. I've heard BH was good, too. People's opinions and variable mileage and whatnot. I've heard a lot of people like the agent plot, though.

Title: Re: Storylines (Annotate your spoilers!)
Post by: Sjofn on December 04, 2011, 04:44:56 PM
Of the stories I played anything like a decent amount of time with:

Inquisitor - Probably my favorite. This is entirely because of the pure goddamn camp factor for me. The inquisitor knows exactly what sort of universe s/he is in, and both voice actors are hilarious. I like this because it makes being a 'bad' Sith (that is, someone who mostly picks light side) make more sense, really. S/he's just fucking with everyone. The actual PLOT plot, though, might not actually grab everyone, but who cares your character is hilarious.

Agent - Also really good, and also a class where picking light side shit is going to make sense (sometimes, anyway). Gives you a good sense of what being Empire is like for non-force users (which is to say, you might still be a Space Nazi if that's how you want to roll, but at least you're not crazy). Also, you sleep with half the galaxy, as far as I can tell, so that's always nice.

Consular - Played this the most. I can see how people might not like it, because the whole thing just feels very ... zen. The story also feels more personal, in that while what you're doing can affect a lot of people, it's not like, say, the Agent. Everything the Agent is doing is for THE EMPIRE. The consular is doing stuff on a smaller scale (though it has the potential to blow up into something bigger, and I have no idea if it ever does, since I only hit 23-ish). At the same time, it's not personal like the inquisitor's, where everything the inquisitor is doing is basically for his/her personal gain and/or amusement.

Smuggler - I played this to level 2. By level 2, I had all the motivation I needed to play a smuggler. It has the best hook for sure.

Title: Re: Storylines (Annotate your spoilers!)
Post by: murdoc on December 04, 2011, 04:57:07 PM
Of the chars I got to level 10, I thought the Bounty Hunter plot was ok and the Trooper one was weak. Sith Inquisitor was decent and the Warrior one had it's moments. The Smuggler one was really good for the 5 levels I played it.

Title: Re: Storylines (Annotate your spoilers!)
Post by: kildorn on December 04, 2011, 05:06:52 PM
The smuggler indeed has the best "why should I give a shit about this"

I like the consular storyline. It's kind of cliche-ish, and very very "hey, Jedi are supposed to be pretty chill folks in tune with everything", but I think the idea and acting are top notch for what it's supposed to be portraying.

Title: Re: Storylines (Annotate your spoilers!)
Post by: Nevermore on December 04, 2011, 06:01:46 PM
I only had a chance to really play two classes, since I was away for most of Thanksgiving.  The Inquisitor was awesome, but I think at least 50% of that might have been because of the awesome dialog choices and voice acting.  The Trooper was kind of weak though, to be honest.

Sounds like I'll like the Consular, because serene is mostly how I figure a force focused Jedi should be.  Sort of a young Qui Gon-ish I would assume.  And I heard (not just here) that the IA can really slut it up, which could be entertaining for a change.

That's fair enough, but there's always going to be that factor in these kinds of games. Especially if you've played a few Bioware games in your time, you'll be able to recognize the setups and tricks well in advance. I totally gamed more then one story choice with "CONSEQUENCES" because I was familiar with that particular story device. 'Oh I've danced to THIS song before, you can't fool me!'

This isn't particularly spoily, because I am going to be vague:

Does Sith Inquistor force you to be a douche-bag? I only played mine to level 4, but all dialog choices were various ways of showing the finger verbally. Oh and there was a lot of bullying going on at a Sith Academy...

Edit: Thinking now that maybe I am not cut out for Sith? All I wanted to do is please my master, and if I have to kill hordes of innocent people for the empire at least be professional about it.

I don't think showing verbal fingers really counts as being a douchebag for the sith. More like par for the course.

This isn't particularly spoily, because I am going to be vague:

As far as I can tell, being a sith involves being a douchebag, it's just a matter of what KIND of douchebag you want to be. My manquisitor decided he wanted to be the "fuck all y'all" kind of douchebag, where he sassed the shit out of his asshole instructor and picked light side choices just to fuck people over. I didn't feel like a douchebag (I am terrible at being evil or even just renegade in the case of the Mass Effects, if that helps you at all) as much as I felt like a troll. But given I was trolling crazy evil people, it was a good kind of trolling, if that makes sense.

EDIT: All that said, if you want to play Empire but not be a huge douchebag, you might be better off with the IA. All of Empire is some degree of douchebag, but the IA seemed like the least douchey of the douchebags. Which is saying something, seeing as how s/he is basically the secret police for the Space Nazis. But I didn't play the BH at all, so they might be even less douchey.

Yes, that helps, thank you.

I have a hard time immersing myself with evil characters as well. At least as long as there is no way to justify the deed. (as in "Rachni are evil and dangerous. Of course you die! *pushes exterminate button*).

The games damage/hit is very level dependent. You'll take considerably more damage and deal out considerably less if you are enough levels behind a mob. 3-4 levels if I remember right.

This is kinda storyline I guess.  Does anyone else find it amusing that on Tatooine you have a lot of missions that involve killing Sand People, tons of bonus missions that are killing Sand People, quests about Sand People attacking people etc...

But really, it's the Republic pretty much invading the Sand Peoples homes and they are just defending their land?  :uhrr:

I'm only level 11 on my Marauder and he killed 6 people before he was even off of Korriban and was instrumental in the death or maiming of 3 others.  I've been on Dromund Kaas ~1 hour and I've killed 2 that weren't combat encounters, ~15 if you include the combat encounters. All these ares just STORYLINE deaths, not side-quests.

I wouldn't bother even trying to question the logic of that particular choice. It's utter garbage, and is only there because each zone must have a light / dark side option apparently.

There's quit a few like that sprinkled throughout the game and it's quite jarring to come across them because they are so obviously completely bloody stupid.

How in god's name do I get dark side points for shooting at the aggressors?
You instigate open hostilities with political 'superpower' entity you have truce with and who isn't attacking you (the planet isn't part of the Empire) effectively providing a potential pretext for starting Star Wars equivalent of world war 3 (where it can be avoided) For what's worth, it's viewed the same if you do it on the republic side.

By that point in the story on both sides I believe the truce has been broken by the "other" side. They actually really get strange about the truce, since it shows up and leaves completely at random. I know at one point in my plot line someone offhandedly remarks "oh guess what, we just declared war again" and does something, and this is never ever mentioned again. In the next scene everyone is acting really worried that their actions will violate the truce that I was just told was gone.

I have been Dark Side V since level 22ish. I can not bring myself to ever select a light side option now. I AM IN TOO DEEP! I just keep adding to the body count and someday, the Council will know my name is the Lord!  :why_so_serious:

You must run a lot of flashpoints or something?  At 31 my Shadow is only Dark III and I've taken all dark options every time it's an option.

I farmed Esseles for 250 dark side points a run... for a lot of runs.

It comes at roughly the same time the start of consular act 2 happens and i'm not sure, it generally feels like there's hostilities here and there but when they break out the officials on the top on both sides insist it's been some 'rebel offshots' and whatnot -- neither side seems keen to actually declare "to hell with it and now you die", which can make some sense given the Republic situation but for the Empire i dunno. But then the farthest i followed their storylines so far was agent landing on Balmorra.

Oh, I think you need to read the thread with regards to Corso Riggs.  :why_so_serious:

In fact, spoilery-ish crap that is NON-romance related:

If you don't mind Goddamn Wookiee Speak, Bowdaar isn't bad, though. I still haven't managed to claw along to get Companion Three, but she seems pretty awesome (as I've talked her a couple of times, she just isnt a COMPANION yet). Soloing as a gunslinger sucks.

Soloing as a gunslinger sucks.
Soloing as sniper with Kaliyo is on the other hand   At least at the early levels, literally headshotting regular mobs on the spot from full health to zero just doesn't get old.

And my rifle is as long as my sniper is tall

It may have to do with the mobs in question, too. I found the BH starter planet a lot easier than the Trooper starter.

Gunslinger shouldn't have issues until 30+ though imo. I can't think of anything I was struggling to heal through before Voss. Voss is what made me think "gunslingers are supposed to deal with this fight.. how?"

The last fight on Tatooine, I had to call in my sister to help (two gold stars, although one was CC'd for most of the fight). I just could not kill the sith gold star before she killed Corso, and then whelp, too fucking bad for me.

EDIT: And even on the stuff where I'm not technically having "trouble," I have a lot more damn downtime because I have to "drink" after most fights.

My scoundrel enlisted help for that fight as well. Healing doesn't help, it's just a really crazy fight. I hear the soloing trick is to actually passive your companion and let the jedi get some crazy threat lead and "tank" for you.

I find in quite a few fights it's better to switch off the auto from companion's taunt ability and handle that manually. Can spread the incoming damage better that way and the companion doesn't just keep taunting until it literally kills them (taking out the dps that'd otherwise win the fight)

The last fight on Tatooine is pretty much impossible for any smuggler no matter what the spec. Nobody I know has been able to solo it: there's a constant stream of smugglers asking for help with it in chat.

As for later smuggler fun, maybe some of you have noticed the non-interactable green character in your XS medical bay? The one who has been there pretty much since Nar Shaddaa? Named "Ivory"? Well, eventually he shows up in the plot...at Belsavis. But not on your ship. Wow, that's a silly bug.

By Belsavis, I'm very happy to be a smuggler with loose ties to the Republic, because holy shit are they fuckups. Every single planet I've been to, it's:

a) We lost sensitive intel because, um, well, Lieutenant Freckles had to wipe his ass in the commode and he used the papers from the briefcase that have all our troop emplacements and then we forgot about them before we had to run away. Could you go fish them out of the toilet? Because we, um, have a manpower shortage. Yes, that's it.

b) Every planet builds its own superweapon. It's like a state flower or a community art project: you're supposed to build superweapons that threaten your own existence and then complain when someone might use them. Actually, this one hits a bit too close to home: it's like superweapons are Senatorial pork.

c) The Republic builds weapon prototypes and then does things like store them on a prison planet right next to the supermax cells. Weapon prototypes which happen to destroy security forcefields.

Oh yeah, I just got some help and got it done a long time ago. With a Jedi pal, it really did last about fifteen seconds.

Some companions are really hard to predict in terms of negative/positive reactions. Risha particularly is all over the place. She tends not to like things that make me seem too obedient to the Republic and she likes when I get my money, but what's really hard to tell is how she'll react to a get-my-money but also get-dark-side-points decision. She seems like she's really cold-hearted and then suddenly you'll get a big hit for doing something only mildly cold. Akaavi is also a bit hard to pin down.

I was kind of amazed in the early going how often [flirt] responses lead to your scoundrel going offscreen with your conversation partner. My character definitely should have space STD by now.

The prison planet in general is full of WTF-REALLY? Republic stuff.

Though the whole prison thing is consistent with the Republic throughout--they're short on manpower because they're a bunch of wasteful asshats. They're spending bazillions of credits cleaning up Taris (and wasting the lives of troops and mercenaries) when their own CAPITAL is a fucking mess anywhere but near the Senate building.

About the main reason the Republic is still in business from what I can see is that the Sith are such an over-the-top murderous and treacherous bunch of nutjobs.

I don't know if it was the quantity that caused the writers to go crazy, but both the Empire and Republic act in such a colossally stupid and unsustainable manner that it actually starts to cause issues.

I get that the Star Wars world was never properly filled out in the films, and that the empire and republic in the EU is literally this retarded, but the situation in game prevents the opposing faction from ever feeling like a threat. Mortal peril only ever comes about as a result of your own side being galactically stupid or pointlessly malicious.

Some of the conversations must have been written just to annoy the player. Like this one conversation with Quinn. (de-spoilered paraphrase)

Quinn: So, the empire is in danger and so we must grab this particular piece of information.
Me: Huh, all right I guess.
Quinn: It's highly secured. We'd need to get a disguise, bypass 4 security stations, seduce the guard lady to grab her access code, sneak past a hundred security droids, then break the safe combination while hanging upside down from the ceiling.
Me: OMG, that sounds awesome! Let's do that!
Quinn: I'll get to it right away, my Lord. I'll contact you as soon as I'm done.
<fade to black>
Me: What!?
<fade in>
Quinn: I'm done. Nothing I couldn't handle.
Me: But... But *I* wanted to do that mission! :heartbreak:

Gee, I love Risha and Akaavi's dialogues for the most part. I haven't talked with Bowdaar in ages, and the last time was just some short thing about how slavery is bad.

Guss was hilarious on Hoth, I have no idea what he'll be like in companion dialogues as I haven't really used him yet and he's had almost no affection gains. I should take him out soon and shower him with gifts to see what he's on about. He's a healer, so not too helpful for a sawbones.

Lt. Boyfriend must've felt my RAEG, because suddenly I have a letter from him! Not sure why he took longer to write me than Kira took to write Ingmar, as I was up in what I assume is the letter zone a while ago. The gift was just a level 1 purple gift, which will be nice for an alt, but not much use for Siala. The important thing was the letter, though, that was the part I was pissy about. SO. Marriage is not the "win condition" of the romances after all, which makes me happy.

I've actually felt a bit guilty at times at some of the stuff my evil Inquisitor(s) have done.  That being said, this is the first Bioware game in a long time that I've had fun playing an evil bastard.

Yeah, I gotta say some of the stuff my agent does is just  :ye_gods: :why_so_serious:.

It's amusing how dark side choices on the republic side are "take this uberweapon for the republic instead of destroying it" / "kill my longtime nemesis instead of taking him prisoner" while on the sith side they are "perform genocide on this planet's natives, then take this stray puppy, bite its head off, shrug, and walk away".

I know you can turn the visual off and all but it's kind of dumb to have a smuggler who is Light Side III get some varicose veins just because he's also got 1k dark side points. I'm not Sith-y, I don't have Force powers, etc.: surely not everyone in the SW universe who does something bad gets glowy red eyes and a skin condition. Jango Fett looked pretty clean-cut to me.

My understanding has always been that sith corruption is based on net alignment.

Corruption on my dark side guys has always occurred exactly as they crossed the dark I/II/III alignment levels.

I agree it makes no sense outside of force users - but don't see the problem if you see it as a customisation option.

Same; my consular has 1850 dark side points at the moment but you'd never know, because she's at net +3650 and could easily do the "after" cosmetics commercials.

I started seeing varicose veins when my smuggler was at Light Side III in net alignment, so I wonder if it's not net, but just on X number of dark side points. He's got cybernetic eyes so it's hard to tell whether he was getting any glowiness.

Not spoilering this because it's not really a spoiler:

The order you get your companions, and how long you go before getting them all, is fucking retarded for some classes. There is zero reason the inquisitor should wait as long as it does for its second companion, let alone how long they wait for their healer, for example. I love the companions, but they could've done them way better in this regard. ><

Ouch. That's.... much longer, alright.

Guess it doesn't matter too much for the sorcerers but their stabby cousins... probably going FML.

Although on the other hand when i think about it, i pretty much rolled with Qyzen all way to Hoth and through it. The combined dps was generally more than enough to get stuff dead, and faster kills made up for the downtime afterwards.

I think the real problem with the companions is simply that their combat roles are not balanced at all, so for most builds the heal companion is easymode and everyone else is useless. If that weren't the case, the odd distribution of companions wouldn't bother people as much.

Best idea I heard so far: Allow the players to "respec" any companion we have into any of the 3 main combat roles. I doubt it would break the RP aspect if your DPS companion learned how to sling medkits and got a lower damage output to compensate.

In my opinion, SW and JK classes should have a healbot as the first pet, then a ranged damage dealer. JC and SI should have the tank pet then a damage dealer pet. IA and Smug you can flip a coin with but I'd guess a tank pet then a healbot, and the BH / Trooper should get the tank then healbot. Though, seeing a Jawa that early in the game for BH might be a little breaking and way OP.

Except, you know, half of them can do damage and/or tank themselves, but can't heal.

Yeah I'd do tank -> healer -> ranged DPS for consular/inquisitor, personally, although healer -> tank -> deepz works too, of course.

Title: Re: Storylines (Annotate your spoilers!)
Post by: Merusk on January 15, 2012, 03:16:00 PM
I dunno, DPS -> Healer for Marauder has worked pretty well.  I don't even pull out Malvai because his healing is < the output of most mobs so the extra DPS from Vette is better to use.  I was getting swarmed and things were taking too long to kill when I had him out.

Some segment of it has to be personal playstyle; which is another argument in favor of 'let me spec my companions'

Title: Re: Storylines (Annotate your spoilers!)
Post by: Reg on January 15, 2012, 05:18:30 PM
Yeah I didn't realize how much I was depending on Vette's DPS skills until I took Quinn out a couple of times. The healing was nice but it was taking me absolutely forever to kill anything. Better to end up at a quarter health and need to use my self-heal than to take that long to finish a fight.

Lt. Boyfriend must've felt my RAEG, because suddenly I have a letter from him! Not sure why he took longer to write me than Kira took to write Ingmar, as I was up in what I assume is the letter zone a while ago. Maybe he just needed time to get over my cruel rejection of his proposal?  :why_so_serious:

The gift was just a level 1 purple gift, which will be nice for an alt, but not much use for Siala. The important thing was the letter, though, that was the part I was pissy about. SO. Marriage is not the "win condition" of the romances after all, which makes me happy.

Great idea.

So great it was the system that was in last year when I first started playing close attention to development. I really wish they had kept some semblence, though I can imagine why they changed it (gearing would get even more convoluted...) Would've been nice to have shared the story with someone besides Mako, I barely know any of the characters on my ship and they all have their starter gear.

I completely skipped Taris and went straight to Nar Shaddaa last night and did only the class line to grab Bowdarr, seeing as I only seem to want to stab Corso in the eyes every chance I get. Interestingly, the fights were actually fights given that I was a level below or even with the mobs and it was for the most part quite enjoyable, rather than the facerolling through stuff I am out leveled for. That said, now I have to go back and do Taris with my wookie. That should be a hoot.

It's a holdover from when you could permanently kill companions.  At the very very least they should have let you put Vette's old shock collar on him to keep him in line.

That I'd be okay with.  As it stands?  No.  I'll resent it every time I'm reminded of it, which will be several times a play session.

I guessed at the reasoning, but because of those design changes, it takes a dramatic moment near the end of your story and makes it stupid and aggravating.

There are a number of spots like that in various storylines - Jedi Knight has a couple spots where it is obvious you could lose a companion at one point - you can tell it was pretty late in the game that they had to remove that.

Players in the beta cried up a storm apparently when they realized they couldn't replace companions they killed. Maybe once they add more companions they can go back and put permanent companion loss back in or something.

I think part of the reason T7 ranked so "low" for me is because I hauled around Kira until I got Doc, so he wound up being sort of forgotten in the hold of my ship. I liked talking to him, and he is totally adorable, but he didn't have much to add on his own once he got shackled to my crafting table. And Lord Spoiler is just such a huge, hilarious bitch sometimes if you're hauling him around on Corellia, I found myself pretty fond of him.

While we are on companions, Xalek doesn't get enough press for the inquisitor.

Kind of like a less annoying version of Sten.

Almost all his responses are one word or less, but with every word you can feel him seething at the idiocy of everyone around him, and after 40+ levels of Imperial strategy & the incessant bullshit of Khem, Andro, and Ashara you can kind of see his point, so he comes across as entirely the most grounded individual you will meet no matter how much he likes kicking puppies.

Talos remains femquisitor's one true love, but Xalek easily supplants Ashara as first alternate companion.

Oh btw, you don't get him till the end of...  .... seriously...

I like all the comps for BH. Blizz is hilarious - always sounds like he has something urgent to say, then I click the chat box over and it's "Boss need Blizz, YAY!" or something. Gault is me in a character. His tone, his one liners, his flippant attitude. If he was a healer, I'd have him out all the time. Skag is your typical bouncer type *yawn*. Torian is cool for the "honorable one" but his lack of using nouns to construct a sentence grates on my nerves at times. IT IS "I AM GOING TO GO ON A HUNT. I'LL SEE YOU IN A MINUTE" not 'going on a hunt. back soon.'  :oh_i_see:

Pacing for the Inquisitor is all wrong, throughout the game, compared to the Warrior.  It was a stark contrast running through everything with one.

There were others, but those three stood out the most.  I can't think of any instance in which the Warrior had it worse than the Inquisitor.

When you get Xalek is just stupidly late, too.

If it helps, once my manquisitor got his second companion, things picked up considerably. And while I wanted my healer earlier even so, I didn't need him as much as I was afraid I would. I specced tanky, though, a DPS assassin might just be fucked.

I played so long ago I don't remember, unfortunately, but I did have her in orange pants eventually.  You may just have to keep using green ones till you find a pair on the AH (crafted).  I think Nar Shadaa has the orange shirt and headband (for cash), and the Alderaan Noble social armor has good looking orange pants (though you may have to un-mod it to bring it down to equippable at 14).

If green pants exist that might not be a disaster, they don't on the empire side.

Honestly what? My Inq is level 18. For some people, playing alts and the class story lines are important. Until everyone (not just Nebu) has all 8 classes to 50, is it that difficult in the storylines (annotate your spoilers!) thread to slap a spoiler tag on things?

Maybe the first 20 levels isn't so bad, but I'd guess most people here have been to Hoth on a single class, maybe a couple at most.

Sjofn just hit level 50 on a new class, time for some SPOILERS!

I'd go into more detail about the Imperial Agent class storyline, but frankly this trip through had long gaps between me playing it, so I don't quite remember everything with the clarity I would like. I will, however, say that this was probably my favorite storyline so far, and that I am glad I did the bulk of it after doing most of the Republic side stories, because there are about a gazillion throwaway references to them that I would have missed otherwise.

Even though I am of the opinion the Empire is stupid, I went into this planning on playing Joshua the Imperial Agent as a patriot, who would do whatever was best for the Empire, dark side or light side be damned. However, for my own sanity, he would not be ruthless in his dedication. If there was a kinder, gentler way to protect the Empire's interests, he would take that way, even if it was a gigantic pain in the ass. He was harder for me to roleplay than I expected!

PROLOGUE/ACT ONE NATTERING:

ACT TWO NATTERING:

ACT THREE NATTERING:

IMPERIAL AGENT COMPANIONS:

Christ, that was a lot longer than I intended. <cough>

Next up: Almost certainly my manquisitor, although I am finally on the Kalah train again as well.

I find Quinn far too dull to have strong feelings about one way or another. Yeah, he's a suck up, but Livia sort of expects that (she's an AWESOME SITH PURE BLOOD, of course losers are going to suck up to her!), and someone being all WOO EMPIRE doesn't really bother me (I love Talos as hard as I can, and he loves the Empire, after all). He's just sort of there. Soooo ... so far, I find that people having strong feelings for him (he seems pretty divisive on the SWTOR forums, much like Corso, in that people either really love him or really hate him) is kinda surprising.

I ... I think I started the romance? Possibly? I honestly can't tell. Which ... well, we'll see, I guess. For SCIENCE. He can't be worse than Corso. It is impossible. But I can't say I especially go for dudes who are that submissive, so I am pretty sure it's not going to do much for me. :P

Not reading Sjofn's tale of Corso yet, as my FemSmuggler is only 1/3rd into Belsavius (and only 5k with Corso).   :oh_i_see:

The storylines have really impressed me.  In order of favoriteness thus far...

- Agent (lightside)
- Smuggler (lightside)
- Inquisitor (darkside)
- Trooper (?)
- Bounty Hunter (neutral)
- Jedi Knight (lightside)

Need to play:

- Agent (darkside)
- Trooper (darkside)
- Warrior (TBD)
- Consular (darkside)

Title: Re: Storylines (Annotate your spoilers!)
Post by: Sjofn on May 13, 2012, 12:13:57 AM
Agent (light side!) is probably my favorite thus far too. I also really, really like the SI one (also light side... ish) that I keep putting off finishing for no good reason. BH is the only one left I've done basically nothing of, no idea when I'll actually get around to it.  :why_so_serious:

I like being Republic better than Empire, even though I like the IA and SI stories better than anything on the Republic side, because the planet quest dark side/light side is usually less ... I don't know. Doofy? Empire side it's too often dark side = twirl mustache versus light side = twirl mustache less vigorously for my tastes, while Republic feels more often pragmatic (DS) versus idealist (LS).

Does that make sense?

Title: Re: Storylines (Annotate your spoilers!)
Post by: Fordel on May 13, 2012, 12:39:12 AM
Makes sense to me.

I find I just start to roll my eyes whenever I have to deal with large amounts of Jedi Bullshit, Sith Stupidity or General Empire vindictiveness. The only redeeming part about the Empire for me, is it's at least HONEST with itself... but I am constantly wishing I could say, skip everything BUT my Agents class story. I have just run out of fucks to give with the Empire shared story.

Title: Re: Storylines (Annotate your spoilers!)
Post by: Sjofn on May 13, 2012, 12:48:15 AM
I mean, there is some "kick puppy y/n" for the Republic too, of course, but generally the LS choice is "hug puppy" instead of "give puppy a light tap with your toe."

Title: Re: Storylines (Annotate your spoilers!)
Post by: Zetor on May 13, 2012, 01:24:03 AM
That was my experience too [republic trooper/consular, imperial agent]. Republic LS/DS choices are more like paragon/renegade (with some 'doing this bad thing for The Greater Good' sprinkled in), while imperial LS/DS choices are about murdering people quickly vs. torturing them to death.

Sith Warrior story had some of the better dialogue one-liners sprinkled throughout, but the plot was somewhat bland I thought.  I played light-side, which made Vette like me.

Ha, I have the same relationship with Vette. She mostly likes Livia, but she doesn't seem to appreciate when Livia lets everyone know how awesome she is. But Livia is awesome, so suck it up, Vette.

Livia also has a "give them one chance to surrender/leave/rethink the error of their ways" policy. If they don't take the one chance, Livia kills them. So far she's only had one NPC realize they should probably take that chance and run with it. Why don't they learn? Whyyyyyy?

So I made a man smuggler and my GOODNESS is it way more fun than being a lady smuggler, and it is entirely because I don't have Corso interested in getting into my pants. I still hate him (he gives me +15s for flirting with women until I sleep with them, then I get a minus, I assume because I am treating them like a whooooooore because LADIES don't want to have SEX just for FUN. And my dude smuggler NEVER EVER pretends it's more than just for fun to get these ladies into bed!) but at least I won't have a romance with him.

I did realize at one point that when I am playing this dude smuggler, I am essentially playing Doc. And I love Doc. So that probably ups the Man Smuggler score too.

I mean, obviously he wouldn't because who the fuck would write that and actually put it in the game, but he definitely gives off a vibe of "nice pedestal you got there, be a shame if something were to happen to it" in some of his lines reacting to you shutting him down. Like the whole "you'll never find anyone who loves you like I do" scene was hugely creepy and vaguely threatening, and I can't decide if the writer realized it (it's the same woman who wrote DA2's Anders, who also takes rejection REALLY BADLY).

Corso seems like he'd never treat a woman like shit.  He'd just snap and murder her while loudly lamenting how she made him do it by disappointing him.

Also, I meant to reply to this:

Trooper Chapter 3, post Belsavis interlude, major light/dark decision.

Oh. My. Gods. I neither saw that coming nor knew how to handle it. I feel emotionally manipulated. Well played Bioware, well played.

I was so glad something like that happened because holy shit was I starting to get tired of the trooper storyline by then. Belsavis in particular is hugely boring.

Speaking of the Trooper storyline:

You would be surprised at how many darkside options the other trooper companions happily sign off on.

Title: Re: Storylines (Annotate your spoilers!)
Post by: Jherad on June 03, 2012, 09:09:50 PM
Yeah, often light side appears to be 'whichever option results in greatest number of survivors no matter their affiliation'. Some of the trooper companions rate personal/team loyalty a lot higher - particularly that cop from Psych.

4X is pretty into following orders, too.

Title: Re: Storylines (Annotate your spoilers!)
Post by: Sjofn on June 04, 2012, 02:08:00 AM
Yeah 4X is basically "is this good for the republic yes/no" and awards his rep accordingly. The rest of them are varying degrees of that (Yuun is probably the most light-side idealist of them, then Dorne, then Aric). Vik's thing is more "whatever, Republic."

That's the thing in general with Trooper Light/Dark choices, MOST of them aren't simple "kick puppy off cliff for the giggles", there usually a debate of doing the 'Right' thing vs. doing the 'Smart' thing.

Another day, another finished character for Sjofn! This time it is Jovian, the sith inquisitor. I will spare you all the giant run down that I gave the IA, because that was way too damn wordy for something I don't think anyone actually reads. :why_so_serious:

Jovian's main motivation was "fuck the Empire," which resulted in him being mainly light side, although he certainly picked his fair share of dark side shit (but one of his tradeskills was diplomacy, so he's Light V anyway). I really, really enjoyed the story though, although if you prefer your class storyline to have anything at all to do with the game's overall plot, the sith inquisitor is not for you. The sith inquisitor is too busy dealing with Sith Bullshit to worry about the Republic.

I WILL do a companion run down:

Warning: I am pretty sure I have the first two chunks safely squared away time-line-wise (I even have some of chapter one actually in the chapter two section to make ABSOLUTE CERTAIN), but chapters two and three kind of blur together, as they have the same issue the consular has, in that it feels less like OKAY CHAPTER THREE NOW and more like OKAY ON TO CHAPTER 2-B. I may be fucking some of it up, especially since, like Joshua before him, Jovian had a two month break between landing on Belsavis and actually doing Belsavis. Then I took yet another break before digging into Voss. So um. Sorry if I ruin anything.

Prologue:

Chapter One:

Chapter Two:

Chapter Three:

And in case you're wondering, this is how Khem's thing shook out, don't read unless you finished chapter 1 completely, although it's not possible to actually finish before you finish the class story completely:

God, that was even longer than the IA one, I think.  :ye_gods:

Second the love for Talos, he had that chipper British explorer vibe going. I really disliked Ashara's recruitment, as nothing that happened really seemed to prevent her from going back to the order even though they set her up as as prideful hothead. As a darkside sorc, Khem was fun, cheering on all my be mean to everyone choices. Andronikus was meh and Xalek just comes so late there wasn't much time to do anything with him. There's only like two dailies that even give him affection and I was eager to move on to another character and they only now got around to getting +shield to work on the light armor "tank".

With Ashara, her recruitment definitely could've been done better, but I think deep down she just didn't want to go back. She's definitely trying to have her cake and eat it too.

One thing I forgot to mention about the agent story that I didn't like. Everyone comes up with plans but you. For someone chosen for their independence and quick thinking, you're kinda dull. Instead of Keeper saying "here's the plan" and you getting the lame "but that's crazy" line before you go off they should've switched that around. You come up with the plan, then the keeper raises the objections which you wave away. Would've made the agent so much more forceful and heroic.

Finally finished the agent story. If you haven't actually made your Agent yet, I really suggest making him a dude instead of a lady.

The Lady version of the story is by no means bad (and her voice is delicious) , but there are just so many parts where you can just SEE that they clearly wrote this with a male lead in mind and your missing out as a lady.

Right, so. Smugglers. I'm mostly going to report on Captain Dorvin the Dude Smuggler, because most of the stuff that was different for Captain Kalah has already mostly been written about! As a result, there's not going to be as much Corso hate as he deserves. I basically played Dorvin as God intended: Greedy manwhore with a heart of gold. The main difference between him and Kalah (who also had a heart of gold, was greedy, and slept with many, many people) is Kalah will sometimes forgive people for stabbing her in the back. Dorvin shoots them, if he's allowed.

Finished the trooper story last night. I went female miralian (the green ones) vanguard tank and was all light side and proper military, i.e. paragon femshep. Overall it was ok. Not great but not bad either. I took armormech. Worked out well as the whole squad is heavy armor, main stat aim. Never had to buy gear and they all matched.

Here's some rambling thoughts:

Since my last two guys were light, next up is darkside smuggler. I will not only smuggle spice to children, I will smuggle it inside children, and the spice will be made of children.

Not really relevant, but Jaxo isn't SIS, she's military like you, works for Garza.

There aren't many Jedi because the Jedi fucked off to their old forgotten planet once the temple got sacked 50 years ago or whatever. It's why you even exist, the Republic decided it couldn't rely on the Jedi anymore. It's also why whenever you play a Jedi and go do a quest, everyone on Courscant is like "Haven't seen one of you guys in years!"

The Murder Pistol is because of Commandos and their Assault Canons.

Interrupt, AE stun, Interrupt, Storm, Interrupt, Cryo, Interrupt, Heroic Moment Cryo, Interrupt, Storm and one healer will be dead.

Haven't done any jedi yet, so was not aware. Never any shortage of jedi when you play Imperial though.

AE stun took a second for me to remember. One of those abilities you get late and I forget I have because it's relegated to the side hotbar. Totally never realized heroic moment refreshed cryo. Makes sense since it refreshes the sorc stun. Never bothered reading the description and used heroic maybe once my entire time leveling. Backing up from interrupt to storm range, just another thing I never bothered with as all my best stuff is short range. (Just making excuses for being bad at this.)

I didn't actually notice much in the way of Jedi as my IA. It was all Sith being a pain in the ass and normal Republic people, very few Jedi. And I think they were all planet-quest Jedi, not personal-story-quest.

Smuggler has a low Jedi count as well, although I think s/he runs into more than the trooper does.

I want to say they knock you back quite a bit too, but I haven't done that fight in months now so maybe they changed that. If you took Elara with you, you have her CC thing too to use. It's roughly the only time that's actually useful  :why_so_serious:

In General, the Trooper storyline suffered the most from only having 1 companion with you at a time. The times when it worked, are those set pieces where you have your whole squad with you, giving their feedback and whatnot.

Other wise there are too many times when the Player is like "FORM UP HAVOC SQUAD!" and it's just Jorgan beside you going 'err... yes sir!'

Trooper story is pretty cathartic in that you really aren't ever required to do more than 'go here, shoot those guys, rescue those guys, receive medal'. It's not particularly political, it requires absolutely no thought and the only thing it asks of you is to provide the appropriate ammount of ordnance to the appropriate faces. I think the only taxing part is deciding to light side or dark side at any given moment because it's usually a case of 'my personal moral judgement' or 'I do what the fuck I'm told FOR TEH REPUBLAAAHK'. You will find yourself Ooh-rahing. A lot. Also I'm told 4X is an awesome companion, but I played Vanguard so never used him to date. Yuun, on the other hand, is a zen ninja and is very cool. Your romance choices are CATMAN for girl chars and RULESNAZI for boy chars, but there's a few fuckbuddies thrown in during the storyline.

Ok I finished this awhile ago but didn't read the thread. My Act 3 was a bit different, I assume because I was mostly dark side until Act 2

Lt. Boyfriend is a nice enough dude, but he had zero chemistry with my consular. I wanted to airlift him out and put him in some other storyline, the poor dope.

And Lt. Pierce is just a TEASE, the game is going to insist Quinn+Yulla is the One True Pairing. On the upside, it's been a while since I've told someone NO I WILL NOT MARRY YOU ARE YOU FUCKING MAD, so I look forward to that.

I'm glad a hetero female agrees with me re: Quinn, although I must admit I'd rather have  a gay patch asap so I can sex up Vette.

So anyway I recently finished the warrior storyline (incoming female sith trooper  :why_so_serious:) and I can't say it was all that great. I do enjoy killing both jedi and sith, mainly because they have to know what's coming to them, but they keep talking ish. The ending just felt anti climatic for some reason

I'm about to go to Voss (yay Voss, it's almost always hilariously bizarre class-quest-wise), so technically not TOO far from the end, but given Ingmar and I spent all of yesterday slogging through Belsavis, it's hard to say when he will be emotionally ready to play his manquisitor again.

His manquisitor has the stupidest hat I have ever seen, by the way, and he insists on displaying it.

I WILL say that act 3 for SW is considerably more interesting than the previous two acts, but I don't think it was worth the wait. :P

Depends on the class for me. Almost all of them, I prefer the Prologue+Act 1 over whatever their Act 2 is, though. The various Act 3's are pretty uneven. I am enjoying the SW act 3, the consular act 3 was pretty okay, but the trooper act 3 put me to sleep, for some examples. JK has the best End Boss, but I think I secretly got the most satisfaction from the boss of the end of the smuggler's Act 1.  :why_so_serious:

Which reminds me: does anyone have a handle on the chronological order of the Planet storylines? For example, I'd say E-Balmorra is earlier than R-Balmorra, and the reverse is true for Taris. R-Belsavis is before E-Belsavis. I have a feeling Voss is supposed to be simultaneous, but alternate paths. I don't have a handle on Correllia. Alderaan almost certainly is simultaneous but alternate, given the climax in each.

Empire Corellia is before-but-overlapping-a-little-with Republic Corellia. Empire people leave it as them "winning," but ultimately the Republic wins that planet (which Republic players have a part in).

Cool. Now that I think about it, I don't think I've ever finished Correllia on either side. I pretty much just get to the end of the class storyline and I'm off to the next char.

Sjofn's correct on Corellia.  The Black Hole (?) lead-in has the PC chewing out the messenger because they are informed the Empire pretty much abandoned it after having a hard-fought victory there, and they weren't happy about this at all.  Something along the lines of "then why did I fucking bother helping you clowns out?"

I really didn't like Belsavis.  I'm not sure why.  Maybe the lack of trees or the flow of the story.

His manquisitor has the stupidest hat I have ever seen, by the way, and he insists on displaying it.
My condolences.

Belsavis would be a fine planet, if it just stayed within the "this is a fucked up republic prison planet and the empire let everyone out!" sphere of story and ended like 15 sub zones earlier.

But no, it keeps on going and you have to kill the same fucking mobs 50,000 times for the same fucking reason over and over and over and I just want off this horrible fucking planet!

It felt particularly dumb on my Trooper, where his class story motivation for going to Belsavis is utterly mundane compared to the weird mysticism the last 2/3rds of the planet revolve around.

Belsavis (Republic side) is about 30% too big, that's really the only issue IMO. Most planets go through 4 'sections' but for whatever reason the last section on Belsavis is basically 2-3 sections. Messes with the pacing and there's more travel because of it.

I did a search yesterday about the Sith Emperor's Plan, and found the results very interesting.  Not sure what their sources are, but the retcon is pretty strong, with both Kotor games featured into the plot (the Exile in Kotor 2 finally has a name!! - didn't know that) and the class stories for JK, SW, and IA giving different clues about what's going on.

Baras is not a bad guy, apparently.

I love good one-liners, and it's too bad that I forget them pretty fast.  A recent one is:  "He just said 'You're all going to die buried under rocks' and your first reaction is 'You can't predict that, because only Mystics can make prophecies'?  Really?"  All-time best, of course, are "I don't need to spell my name, all I need to know is how to spell 'kill':  k y y y l" and the "blind, deaf, comatose lobotomy patient can feel my anger" one.

I am interested to see what the SW learns about the Emperor's plan, given what I know about it from the JK one (the IA one is also sort of different, but it doesn't contradict the JK's version imo). Because right now I am thinking "oh ... oh dear."

My femssassin finally finished the plot.

Felt the second and third act really needed more connection to the the first. Also rent a crowds in this universe are decidedly sparse.

Bad guy's mob on corellia and my horde on Dromund Kaas both looked like low budget TV shows wanting to avoid paying union rates for more than a dozen dudes.

For some reason I feel I should finish the 'plots' associated with companions.

Is there any not stupid way to raise affection or do I still have to buy a shit load of gifts?

Title: Re: Storylines (Annotate your spoilers!)
Post by: ajax34i on November 14, 2012, 07:39:39 AM
As soon as you get the companion, buy 50? (100? I forget the number) of the cheapest gifts from the starter city vendor, to raise his/her standing to 5000.  It's cheapest if you do this while they have 0 or low affection.

After than, just the on-ship talks should raise to about 7000, and then alternately bring the each companion in for just the talks when you grab or hand in quests.  They don't have to be there for the fighting, but if you have them there for the talking, they'll gain points.  The later you get the companion to join your team, the more points they get per convo option (15, 32, 40, 64, and 108? are the numbers, I think).

I have Kalyio and Temple maxed at 10,000, Vector at 9600, Doc at 8300, and Scorpio at 6500 and I'm 49.

As far as who fights with me, I'm DPS, and Doc is very good against bosses cause he heals me, whereas Temple or Vector are very good against regular and silver NPCs (the additional DPS they do means we kill things fast and it doesn't take ages to progress through the trash).  Kalyio and Scorpio as tanks are good for situations where a boss would keep interrupting me with CC, or if it's glass cannon).

Title: Re: Storylines (Annotate your spoilers!)
Post by: Sjofn on November 14, 2012, 11:52:43 AM
That is Lokin, not Doc. Doc is a very specific other dude. I totally would've loved Doc for hanging out with my IA.

Anyway, the rep bonus does increase the later you get a companion, but it varies more than you realize, Ajax. The first one is always 15, because everyone gets that companion at the same time, but after that it can vary pretty aggressively.

I prefer using gifts over gaming my conversations with companions, because I prefer ~roleplaying~ my conversations. I'm always swimming in gifts anyway, that's generally how I raise my treasure hunter/underworld trading/etc skill.

Bioware's commented a few times on erroneous/spoiler-filled codex entries, mainly to say that they're aware of them and they'll be looked at/fixed... some time. Basically it's so low of a priority (I suspect they have metrics that show that few to no people actually read the things) that I imagine they won't get looked at for another year or more.

Are those skills good money-makers on the AH?  I usually grab 3 gathering skills and sell mats, which is sufficient for levelling purposes (getting gear every 5 levels).

Title: Re: Storylines (Annotate your spoilers!)

The mission gifts are totally random, yeah. You could always auction the ones you don't need, they typically sell for more than the mission costs to run last I noticed. Maybe that will go up with F2P and the restricted crew skills.

Title: Re: Storylines (Annotate your spoilers!)
Post by: Sjofn on November 15, 2012, 02:32:44 PM
If you take treasure hunting, the gift missions will, most of the time, bring you fragments that you can trade in at the curator (they're standing next to the gift vendor on the fleet) for whatever level 5 you want, in all three rarities (12 green thingies for a green, 8 blue thingies for a blue, and I don't remember, something like 6 purple thingies for the purple ones).

Gifts sell OK but I don't think that's a path to riches or anything. Also depends on the category, some categories are used way more often than others (or it seems like, anyway).

Completed the HK51 stuff tonight. Was fun, a lot of intelligent reuse and some neat new sections, but suspect the treasure hunt will be a lot less fun when you can't easily find a team of half a dozen people to help search for the thingys.

Most of all, I just liked that it encourages people working together at each stage.

Femssassin & HK now look forward to liquidating large numbers of high and low threat undesirables together. Plus as he is ranged DPS, I never have to take Revel or Asoka off the ship ever again.

His gear is all orange moddable stuff, so you can just rip the mods out of it until 50 and replace it with your own crafted mods. It's a bit of a pain, but any given Cybertech can keep him going quite well; he's a far sight better than any other DPS companion, even in green mods and armorings.

It depends on the set.  The original sets still have their set bonus tied to the armor.  Everything past that though you can rip out set bonuses and move them.

You only get those coins if you resub before something like December 20th. If you don't resub you can't get them, and if you don't resub by that time, they disappear altogether.

Finished the prologue on my warrior. Hmmm, whereas the other empire stories have enough winks and snarks to ground your character as a sane guy in the nuthouse, this just seems to be playing gratuitous sadism straight. Kinda gets dull.

Hoping act 1 is better.

My agent is an awesome puppy kicker (though like I said before, even LS choices on the empire side tend to be ... not very high on the morality scale in a lot of cases). I keep telling myself I just kick puppies so Kaliyo doesn't get mad at me... honest!  :why_so_serious:

At first I thought it may be a mistake to go IA first (since it's supposed to have the best story, and so far I have to agree) but doing that just informs all my decisions as a Dark Lord of the Sith. KNEEL BEFORE ZOD (AND/) OR DIE!

Trolling Baras on my man warrior after being relatively down with everything Baras says on my woman warrior is fucking great. Although some dark side choices in the SW's storyline are immensely satisfying (I'm looking at you, certain dark side decisions on Voss), being light side is funnier, and therefore more interesting to me.

I do agree with Ingmar, now that I've seen both ways, the stuff in his spoiler is way more amusing if you're dark side. But he missed some awesome stuff (particularly on Alderaan) as a result of his lightning first, everything else later policies too, so ... clearly the SI storyline is just awesome no matter what, provided you are okay with completely ignoring anything going on in the Overall Game Storyline. Which I totally was!

I may eventually wind up doing a dark side consular to see if that makes that story more interesting (it's certainly ... REALLY DARK, just from knowing the choices you can make). The one I'm very slowly leveling with three other people is looking like he's probably going to be mostly light side, because I'm playing him as one of those obnoxious By The Book Jedi (complete with condescending jerkfaceness, which means the voice acting is not 100% blandly zen ... more like 80% blandly zen). We'll see if I actually want to go through the story a third time one day. :P

Also I think I'm coming down with sjofnitis because I really hate Corso, and my character is a guy. There's just something about him that grates me. I guess it's all that time playing DS Sith that blinkered do-gooders just annoy the hell out of me, or that I want my char to be morally ambiguous and I have this tug of war between the RP side of me and the min/max side (in terms of affection).

Well that's depressing. I was more or less enjoying Sith politics.

So right now I have a commando and a scoundrel. I was originally going to make both healers but I think I'm going to make one dps and I think commando is the one to go with (I'm assuming scoundrel dps is a lot like sniper, which I came to dislike). At low level (14?) commando seems to be the most fun class I've played so far.

A Scoundrel is nothing like a Sniper DPS wise. Gunslinger is the Sniper Equivalent.

ok. I was worried that I'd be tied down to one spot. So that "shoot 'em in the back" ability becomes more useful or something? Which do you think is the most fun class from a dps perspective? I suppose I can try myself since we get free respecs.

Scoundrel/Operative is a short range/melee class, you stealth around and do positional stuff a lot. Very, very different from 'park in cover, pew pew' Gunslinger/Snipers.

I was able to get HK-51 yesterday.  What a slog, esp.  :ye_gods:  The whole quest line wasn't hard and didn't take very long, it just wasn't fun.  At all.  Now that I have him, I noticed he came equipped with aim gear but theres also a container in my inventory with cunning gear for him.  Is there a difference in what he does depending on the gear he wears?

If anyone is interested in acquiring Hk-51, this is a pretty good guide.

When I got him, he came fully equipped with orange and blue level 50 gear, all of it with aim.  There was also a case put into my inventory at the same time that was same lvl 50 gear only with cunning instead of aim as a main stat.  I'm not sure if the aim gear was heavy armor and the cunning gear was med armor (probably).  Nothing came in the mail.

I'm not aware (from the storylines I've played) of the empire using superweapons against any peaceloving opposing factions? SI uses a superweapon against reactionary forces within the empire but that is clearly a carefully considered surgical strike, in aid of the greater good.

Furthermore the movie empire that destroyed Alderaan is pretty much the successor of the evil republic in the swtor era.

I was basically using "superweapons" as shorthand for "anything that may or may not be morally questionable to do or use." And the Empire quests, nine times out of ten, never even give you the option to not do or use those things, they just want to know if you wish to twirl your mustache while doing so. You are talking about an Empire that will merrily execute people at the drop of a hat (like seriously. A person will be given an impossible task, fail because it is impossible, then be executed for 'incompetence.'), is amazingly racist, uses slave labor, and generally goes along thinking "we must BREAK the planets we conquer, the more brutally the better."

Baras is indeed pretty awesome, especially his voice actor.  I liked Zash too, right up until she

As for the Emperor, clearly someone has no idea what his plan actually is.

<fistbump> Yes exactly. Exactly. Darth Baras has a Plan, he DOES give credit where it is due (the few times I didn't go HEY I DID THAT to someone he was talking to, Baras himself gave me credit on his own!), he is clearly comfortable with his beefalo self, and his voice actor is great. Zash is fun, but then she does what she does, and I do tend to hold a grudge over shit like that.

Although even after that, I liked her okay. I do like that instead of being a raging psychotic backstabbing bitch like 99% of the sith are, she's a cheerful, pleasant backstabbing bitch instead.

Finished up a human/female/smuggler/gunslinger/darkside run. It was mostly good. Played greedy always asking for credits, picking lie and flirt options whenever possible.

Finished up the agent story (along with the Corellia story) earlier today. Since I was playing a sneaky operative that tried to avoid fighting as much as possible, I didn't get too much kill xp at all, and missed out on the bonus 'kill x' mission objectives for the most part. I did run the bonus series for Taris/Belsavis [I think?]/Voss as well as a FP and a WZ every day, but by Voss all the missions were orange (some red even). I kinda brought this on myself with the entire sneaking bit, though, so I didn't really mind. Killing +3/+4 story mission elites was fairly entertaining and sometimes challenging, so it's all good! I finished Corellia and Act 3 at 46-47, so I got the legacy orbital strike before I could train the actual skill from the trainer.  :why_so_serious:

Story comments / act 3 spoilers below!

I finished the Inquisitor last night as well, it felt oddly stilted as I'd played LightSide the whole time. Felt quite a bit more epic than the BH conclusion though.

And oddly, started a Sentinel run-through as well, so I'll see how they tie in.

Just got to 50 today with my Sith Inq. and I have to say I didn't care for the ending.  The whole second half of the story was kind of meh.

On a side note, why must the end game gear for Sith Inquisitors look so God awful? :ye_gods:  The helmet looks even worse than the one for BHs.

I finished the BH storyline a couple of months ago.  Enjoyed the start and end of it, the middle was kinda dull.  Overall happy with it.  I loved Gault and Blizz; Mako was OK, Torian is boring and Skadge hasn't really been invested into.  Actually got stuck around 45th level and quit.  When I picked this back up I upgraded my gear, changed specs and it was better.  So funny that my favorite tree wasn't discovered for almost a year.  It just didn't look interesting compared to OMG ROKITS!

Looking forward to playing him with the xpac.

I'd almost suggest a third attempt to turn Jaesa.

Being DS up to jaesa seems like being a dick for the sake of it. Jaesa in her chilled "fuck everyone they are all lying idiots" DS mode at least gives you a companion who can call out bullshit and puppy kicking starts to come naturally.

I could have, had I done it with my lady one (who finished the game neutral, I think her net score is -300 <3), so I wouldn't have to punt puppies for no reason leading up to her. It's possible, but ... maybe some day, but not any time soon. I don't like the overall story enough (not like the smuggler, which I have done twice and am totally up for at least one more trip through).

My answer is about a month too late, Sjofn, but the hardon is for Baras and the varous one-liners and situations, rather than the actual plot line.  My playthrough was, pretty much, just for the convo cutscenes; I hit ESC (to reset and listen again or pick different dialogue) so much that my key almost broke.  "Some lungs you got there," "K-y-y-y-l," etc.

I do sincerely love Baras, and you do have some awesome lines, I just wouldn't say their storyline is anything to write home about. And if it's one-liners people love, they should be in love with the sith inquisitor storyline.  :why_so_serious:
