Faeblight - Guardian... Assassin name = Binari.

I haven't even attempted to roll on another server for fear of never getting back on.  :awesome_for_real:

I'll be on Firesand, RP-PvP (EU); no point in providing a character name, because I'm still quite undecided, so I might restart quite a few times in the beginning.

Rolled on Shadefallen with my guild, Zaphir [dorf cleric] and Zalika [dorf mage]. Go dorf or go home!  :awesome_for_real:

I may make a character on Sunrest sometime next week when I get outta the queue.  :why_so_serious:

I caved and went to Dimroot - queue was down to 2.4 hours but I said, no no no...

Bzera hit 12 before I decided it was time to call it a night.  I was laggin heavily until I took their low quality shit setting off, pumped everything to midrange and it was smooth again.

Went Druid/Warden/Shaman, and it's actually pretty fun.  I may drop shaman for something more useful down the line, but for now the buff is decent at 0pt

I wonder how much things are going to explode with the final release.

Downloading the headstart client now; probably going to roll something on Dimroot tomorrow morning.

Title: Re: Who's in?

Had to abandon Whitefall as it's a hell of a packed server. Moved my ass on Shivermere (EU).

Title: Re: Who's in?
Post by: Nebu on February 25, 2011, 06:00:42 AM
I'm on both Dimroot and Shadefallen.  If Shadefallen is packed tonight, I'll make Dimroot my permanent home.

Faeblight got ravaged apparently so I skipped it.

Estrael - Defiant - Bastet

Title: Re: Who's in?

I just made the switch anyway.  It's fairly easy to get along with people with the public stuff, but I like the feeling of having people I semi-know from F13 around.

Sunrest - Guardian - "Syndarella" rogue/outfitter

If you want crafted cloth/leather armor up through about level 19, email me any burlap/cloth you scrounge in game and I'll see what I can do for you.

Ok, Firesand (RP-PVP EU) is likely to be my final home (smooth server, no queues)

Ralla (Mage) and Rheggo (Warrior) - Defiant
Eban (Rogue) and Othir (Cleric) - Guardian

Title: Re: Who's in?
Post by: Rendakor on February 25, 2011, 03:32:21 PM
I ended up on Ashstone (US PVP) because it was low pop, and I hate dealing with queues.

Title: Re: Who's in?
Post by: Hayduke on February 25, 2011, 07:32:37 PM
Harrow (RP-PvP).  It was the only one without a queue when I logged in.

What the hell, I haven't done the MMO thing in a while.  Downloading now.

EDIT: Quinton (Rogue) on Dimroot.  Wrapped up the starting areas before the downtime that just happened.  So far, so fun.

Tremain on seastone.

Title: Re: Who's in?

I'm kind of dreading Tuesday.  I hope Dimroot doesn't end up like the initial servers and their queues

Title: Re: Who's in?
Post by: Vinadil on February 28, 2011, 12:46:30 PM
Same here for Deepstrike.  Our queues are just now getting below 3 hours in primetime.  Part of me hopes that stays true through tomorrow so that people will not choose our server on release.

I just found out Rift is all-regions accesible; ie: I live in the UK and will be able to buy a box here and play with US friends on a US server and EU friends on an EU server or whatever combination suits us.
Being cockblocked out of playing with RL/local friends in WoW thanks to having a US account has been a bone of contention for going on 2 years now.

I'm still going to wait to see how stable things are and how much of the population stick it after the first free month; but on that basis alone, this game has become an immensely attractive proposition for me.

We'll have to see how launch goes, but I'm quite happily surprised by how stable and functional the game seems at this point.  No glaring broken or missing functionality, no crazy bugs making my game experience suck, plenty of spit and polish on the UI and content.

Now, he can be like the level 50 defiant guy that showed up last night, and spend a few hours summoning defiant rift mobs, which then aggro the guardian players, and 1 - 2 shot them.

Got a level 1 Warrior that can't fight for his ass and a level 10 rogue that's badass. I think I was destined to play non-tank classes.

Not rushing and I'm having a ton of fun.  Questing, fighting critters in invasion, crafting, gathering.

Yes, take it slow. This is definitely a game you should stick with the crowd or just on the cusp of it in order to have enough people to take on invasions and major rifts.

I've played rogue most, but now tried a few low levels in other classes. Here's what I've found decent for low level (1-13) soloing:

Warrior:
1st soul: Champion. Gives you the Bull Rush to the target, a good action point builder and powerful finisher. Use the 2-handed weapon. 2nd and 3rd souls are up to you. I like the Reaver as a 2nd soul.

Mage:
1st soul: Pyromancer. 2nd soul: Elementalist. Chain casting Fireball while your pet holds up aggro. Add Warlock for the DoTs and Life Leech.

Post by: Lucas on March 04, 2011, 08:33:03 AM
Agreed with the above post: pyromancers and champions are the most straightfoward souls for the Warrior and Mage vocations. Pretty fun to play.

I soloed my champion to 14-ish, and the biggest issue is survivability. Adds are death. My cleric (healer) could easily take on 3-4 mobs at a time and eventually win, but on the champ I die if I pull more than 2 [esp. if I wasn't at 100% hp to begin with].

otoh, battlefield intimidation and talented bull rush are hilarious in pvp.

Adds are death.

This is definitely the case with my Assassin (still only level 9). I can usually finish off 1 add, but anything beyond that and I die very quickly. Quite a change from WoW, where my rogue could handle 3-4 even cons most of the time. Might need to blow a cooldown or two, but it was survivable.

This is pretty much spec dependent. In WoW, your class is pretty much given all it's basic tools to deal with situations. In Rift, you need to go hunt for them.

My base assassin has absolutely no way to handle mid fight adds beyond "can I dps faster than my hp drops"

My assassin/BD had avoidance and DPS cooldowns. My assassin/bard that I pve with now has some passive healing to move the fight more in my direction.

What I have issues with in the rogue trees is pvp related. All the melee specs lack CC breaks. All the ranged specs have them. Which means ranged rogues have an easy time kiting since they can break out of the shit that would lock them down, but anyone can take a melee rogue out of the fight with very little difficulty.

The warrior trees however appear to have some form of CC break in every tree. It means my assassin spec is painful to play in higher level BGs, since any idiot with a snare can completely nullify me. That and the sheer volume of stealth bugs/undocumented features (it takes a while for the client to make a stealthing rogue actually go Poof, so if a rogue stealths, you can usually still click them and just walk over and hit them. Realistic, but kind of a pain)

Assassins really need to dump at least 8 into Nightblade if they are going solo and have to deal with groups. Sapping two different mobs with LH and Incap then burn the third down or the main target is nothing short of hilarity.  :awesome_for_real:

My champ has seemingly turned a corner at around lvl 19.  Setting some effective macros helped a lot as well.

This is why I like Reaver as 2nd soul. The Soul Sickness ability combined with Soul Feast (heal 50% of damage done by Soul Sickness). When adds come, fire off Plague Bringer then Soul Sickness so that 50% of the damage from Soul Sickness on the adds is healing you. Add on Necrotic Wounds before the Plague Bringer timer runs out and you've made some headway into the adds' health. Not perfect, mind you, but seems to help as you work your way through each. Also keep a healing potion handy, of course, and don't be afraid to use it.
