Title: 2010/2011 F13 Fantasy Football is a go!
Post by: shiznitz on June 03, 2010, 05:03:38 PM
League ID: 12874

Password is the same as last year. Everything is the same as last year so speak up to change. I think we didn't like something.

All of last year's players should have gotten an email. It is a new feature.

The Attack Monkies are back!  :drill:

Also, per all the bitching last year, make sure you make the setting for "W/T" slot a pure TE slot. Otherwise TE's are completely useless and we have a rush on every single low-rent wide receiver in the league.

Kilt Wavers have returned for their annual shot at mediocrity!

EDIT: Also, what Paelos said about making a dedicated TE slot. Otherwise it will be a shitty fucking year.

Will do, but god help those with TEs #8-14.

Meh, you never know. Some of the projected TE's were complete shit last year (I'm looking at you Chris Cooley), while guys like Brent Celek and JerMichael Finley were bottom rung dudes who had breakout seasons.

I think the league size was also a point of contention.  It's not so bad when it's #8-12.

Invites went out for the JV team.  They made the process extremely easy.  Still, if people don't get in, we have repeats between leagues.

JV league is 12 teams and a bigger roster.

Main league is QB, RB, WR, TE, W/T, W/R right now.  Should we have more player positions? I think the W/T should be another W/R.

Drop it. Adding that many spots on a 14 team league would cause the very odd fluctuations we got last year. I would preferrably like to cut down on the impact that WR randomness has on the game, but that's my personal view. Drafting 70 decent starting fantasy position players is plenty.

Post by: Murgos on June 10, 2010, 07:22:42 AM
Drop it, don't need TE and W/T.  I'd give odds that not one of those W/T slot has a TE in that position and given the number of WR's that will already be in play that slot will only have 3rd stringers in it anyway.

Title: Re: 2010/2011 F13 Fantasy Football is a go!
Post by: murdoc on June 10, 2010, 07:24:32 AM
Count my vote as 'drop it'. There's more than enough positions already for a 14 team league.

Post by: HaemishM on June 10, 2010, 08:30:30 AM
Yeah, either drop it or make it a W/T/RB slot, which really will cut down on the talent pool. Drop it.

The only comment I have is on the scoring system.

- 6 pts for a thrown TD is too high, 4 seems right or the league becomes QB dominated.

- 15 yd per receiving yd seems a bit harsh, but is offset by the 0.5 per reception.  Gives added value to possession receivers.

I like the sack and interception penalties... a lot.

I agree with that except the TD comment. Touchdowns are touchdowns.

I agree with that except the TD comment. Touchdowns are touchdowns.

Just be aware that with 6 points for thrown TD's, 8 of the top 10 scoring players will be QB's.

Seeing as how it's the most important position in the NFL, I don't really find fault with that.

I am a strong believer in 6pt TDs for all positions.  If there was overwhelming consensus against it, I would change it but since this league has played with 6pt TDs since it started I really think we should stick with it.

I hope I didn't come off as complaining about it.  It was more of a comment.  I'm perfectly happy with any scoring system and will adjust my draft accordingly.

I just change radio/TV channels if they bring it up. I don't give a damn about the Vikings, and I hope they get exactly what they deserve for letting this go on. The longer this continues, the more respect I gain for Green Bay telling him to fuck off, and I hope they win the division this year powered by Aaron Rodgers throwing 4000 yards.

I have done about a half dozen mock drafts.  I have seen Drew Brees go anywhere from 6th to 16th.  I have seen Adrien Peterson go 4th.  A 14 team draft is always interesting and I look forward to getting mocked on a Friday afternoon!

The draft should be good.  The league last year was competitive.  Four teams were 8-5 and five were 7-6.  That's about as tight as it gets. I hope things are similarly close this year.

That is pushing it, but it does depend on how many are on autopick.  I love when lots of people are on autopick because it is easy to predict who the autopicker will draft usually.

So I didn't join the F13 league, but I did do one with co-workers and we drafted last night. Thought I'd post my picks for critique. I picked 4th overall and started with Gore:

Brett Favre
Miles Austin
Dwayne Bowe
Devin Hester
Frank Gore
Matt Forte
Visanthe Shiancoe

Ryan Longwell

San Francisco (defense)

Bench:
Sidney Rice
Anthony Gonzalez (WR)
Brandon Manumaleuna
Willis McGahee
Leon Washington
Rex Grossman

Um, ignore the Grossman pick - that was purely for comedy sake (I use the Rex "Fuck it - I'm going deep!" Logo as my team emblem)

Title: Re: 2010/2011 F13 Fantasy Football is a go!
Post by: WayAbvPar on August 27, 2010, 09:16:29 AM
Receivers are a little thin. I like McGahee on the bench and the SF D, but Sidney Rice is going to miss like half the season, Leon Washington is running behind one of the shittiest lines in the league, and you could get a far more productive backup TE than BM, imo...he is going to be on one of the worst teams in the league (which why I am suspect of Hester too). God I can't wait to watch Martz fail again

Title: Re: 2010/2011 F13 Fantasy Football is a go!
Post by: Bunk on August 27, 2010, 09:46:04 AM
I fully admit that being a Bears fan gives me a possibly delusional hope for Martz. Washington was the product of a late round pick I was planning on taking going right before me, and me running out of time - so I just clicked the next highest back on the list.

With this league, which allows repeated waiver moves, your bench is really just a holding pen for picking up whoever's hot that week. Rice is there so I don't have to fight over him when he comes back after six games. Hester I picked up around the 8th round, so it was pretty thin at that point - and when he does actually catch the ball, it's usually big yards. Maybe they'll let him return kicks again?

Sorry I couldn't attend live draft, but at least it wasn't nearly the fiasco I expected. Don't know if it was the quick and dirty ranking or the auto one, but I might be alright since I have Shonn Greene (NYJ). After checking the waiver wire my roster in the JV league is probably heavy a couple of RBs, but that probably will mean a trade prospect if someone is looking for a decent RB.

GOOD LUCK ALL!

Post by: Sauced on August 27, 2010, 11:53:11 AM
The problem with drafting Manumaleuna isn't that he plays for the Bears, or Martz.  It's that he's basically a 3rd OT and has never caught more than 25 balls in a season.

Title: Re: 2010/2011 F13 Fantasy Football is a go!
Post by: Nebu on August 27, 2010, 11:54:39 AM
Bunk,

I think you'll need to work the waiver wire early and often when the season starts.  Your team lacks depth and bench value.

Note: I hate being critical of anyone's draft.  So much can change during the course of a season.

Title: Re: 2010/2011 F13 Fantasy Football is a go!
Post by: Bunk on August 27, 2010, 01:30:40 PM
No offense taken, I know the bench lacks depth outside of McGahee. Based on past experience, I will be relying on guys who can't control themselves when it comes to the waivers. Eventually they drop decent players that had bad weeks to grab the flavor of the day.

And you're right about the season - there is really no way to predict a league from the draft. Last year's NHL draft I did, 4 of my top 6 picks were injured for 20 or more games.

I think I did pretty good. Got Brees on the autodraft, as well as two good wideouts. Running back is a bit iffy (Ronnie Brown, Marion Barber, Brandon Jacobs) but ought to do well enough. Week 10 will be tough with both my starting wideouts on bye.

I like your draft better than mine.  I think Jacobs will do better than expected and Sproles is a smart handcuff with a rookie starter.

RB always seems like a crapshoot.  I consider myself lucky that I got (JV squad, mind you) Ray Rice, because he's GOT to be good for 1500 combined, if he stays healthy.  I like RBs who are also really good receivers, especially in a low output passing game like Baltimore where they tend to dump it off a lot.  Got Pierre Thomas as well, which should be sweet if he stays healthy.

Of course, I thought the same way last year when I got LT and Matt Forte  :tantrum:

My line-up isn't too shabby, but I've got shit for bench depth in the JV squad.  So it goes.

Mayhap we can post our starting squads for the benefit of those who can see into the other leagues:

QB - Phillip Rivers (which I am quite pleased with)
RB - Ray Rice
RB - Pierre Thomas
WR - Roddy White (yay!)
WR - Percy Harvin (I actually kinda like this one as a darkhorse)
TE - Zach Miller (meh)
K - Lawrence Tynes (who cares?)
D - Pittsburgh (had them last year...they score lots of TDs)

Got Felix Jones, T.O. and Jonny Knox on the bench.  And Kyle Orton (haha).  I don't love my bench, but I could see them fitting in certain weeks.  And maybe Knox will turn into a Juggernaut, if only Cuntler can stop throwing to the wrong team.

Funny thing is, I wasn't even trying for Flacco, but still got him in both leagues. So wacky.

Bat Country JV League

QB - Joe Flacco

RB - Frank Gore
TE - Jason Witten
W/R - Michael Crabtree
BN - Matt Forte
BN - Derrick Mason
BN - Braylon Edwards
BN - Chad Henne
BN - Will Heller
K - Rob Bironas

DEF - Philadelphia
BN - New England

Then, in a second family league I'm in

QB   Joe Flacco, Bal QB
RB   DeAngelo Williams, Car RB
RB   Jamaal Charles, KC RB  P
RB/WR   Mike Wallace, Pit WR

I picked 9th in JV. During the middle rounds I picked up a third WR instead of DEF. Right after me, all the best DEFs went out the window. Still, I think I'm okay.

QB / A. Rodgers

WR / R. Moss

WR / M. Colston

RB / J. Forsett

TE / D. Clark

W-R / T. Hightower

K / M. Crosby

DEF / Inianapolis

BN WR _ M. Floyd
BN WR _ J. Cotchery
BN WR _ D. Driver
BN QB  _ M. Stafford
BN TE  _ T. Heap
BN RB  _ L. Tomlinson

I was 10th in the regular league.

QB - Kevin Kolb
WR - Randy Moss
WR - Reggie Wayne
RB - Beanie Wells
TE - Visanthe Shiancoe
W/R - Jahved Best
K - Josh Scobee
DEF - Dallas

My WR's are the strongest point on my team, which is what murdered me last year when they were total sucking chest wounds in my lineup. My QB is a total gamble, but I have Carson Palmer to back him up if things go off the rails. I'm unsure if Beanie Wells will be worth a damn, but we'll see. Shiancoe is a solid TE, and Best should get some good carries on a Detroit team looking to control the ground. I like my Defense and my kicker was an afterthought.

QB - A. Rogers
WR - L. Fitzgerald
WR - C. Ochocinco
RB - L. McCoy
TE - O. Daniels
W/R - K. Moreno
K - R. Lindell
D - Bears

Bench
WR - S. Moss
WR - M. Wallace
WR - L. Evans
RB - J. Ringer
QB - B. Rapelisberger
D - SD
_________________________

I feel pretty good about the team but not great. RB will obviously be a big issue if McCoy peters out and Moreno's hamstring doesn't get better.

Autodraft did ok for me I guess:

Starters:

QB - Brett Favre (Min)
WR - Miles Austin (Dal)
WR - Hakeem Nicks (NYG)
RB - Adrian Peterson (Min)
TE - Kellen Winslow (Cle)
W/R - Pierre Thomas (NO)
K - Rob Bironas (Oak)
D - SF

Bench:

RB - Reggie Bush (NO)
RB - Steve Slaton (Hou)
TE - John Carlson (Sea)
WR - Demaryius Thomas (Den)
QB - Josh Johnson (TB)
D - Ind

-------------------------------------------

Should all right, the obvious highlights being Peterson and Austin.  I hate having Brett on there with Peterson as well, I mean, they could super blow up again, or Brett could Favre out early this season.  A bit RB heavy, and I'm hoping that the RBs in NO figure their shit out.  Thomas (Den) already injured makes me double lawl too.  First injured Fantasy Player of the season?

Also, I didn't know who Josh Johnson was until a few days ago.

Anyone want a decent RB sub (Slaton)?

Bat Country:
QB: Culter
WR: Andre Johnson
WR: Wes Welker
RB: Steven Jackson
TE: Antonio Gates
W/R: Donald Driver
K: Kaeding
D: Cin

Bench: CJ Spiller, Alex Smith, LT, Braylon Edwards, Benn, Walter

JV league (Autodraft):
QB: Culter
WR: Andre Johnson
WR: Lee Evans (I had Sidney Rice pre injury)
RB:  DeAngelo Williams
TE: Tony Gonzales
W/R: CJ Spiller
K: Prater
D: NO

Bench: Jahvid Best, Ronnie Brown, Carson Palmer, Jermaine Gresham, Sidney Rice, Jacoby Jones

WR is obviously a glaring weak point. For this team.

Overall, I'm not super psyched about my teams.  If Culter implodes, I've got decent backup options.  If Andre Johnson goes down, I'll be royally screwed.

Feel the same way.  But good QB's always seem to put up the highest numbers in our league.  So having a.....well, a Favre could be bad this season.  I'll give him a game or 2 to see how it goes.

And yes, my bench is full of "might not play" second strings.

Scarcity will only get worse as injuries mount.  It is all relative. If you have room on your bench for a spare RB, it can be nice to tuck away a back-up guy or two.

I wouldn't lose faith in Sims-Walker yet. Because his counterpart, Mike Thomas, had a good first game (6 rec. 89 yds.), Sims-Walker may find himself getting embarrassed less. Garrard had three passing TDs to guys who are rarely targeted, so that could open up the field.

My lack of depth is at WR right now, but I do also have Austin - who scored me over 20 pts. Forte is also my second back behind Gore. QB, well, who knows what I'll get out of the Favre.

Okay, that sounds better.  Austin is a machine, and Gore doesn't usually put up a stinker like he did last week.

Thing about Favre is that you can generally count on him to throw TDs and rack up decent yardage, even in games where he stinks.  Your biggest worries are the sacks and picks.

Shiancoe is the most reliable red zone target Minnesota has.  The only way he won't get TD points this week is if a) Adrian runs all over Miami or b) Harvin plays out of his mind.  Cooley is almost a must start at TE every week as WAS has almost noone else to throw to and McNabb loves him some TE action.

I say go with your gut.  Both are excellent choices this week.

Damn, I thought I would struggle in the regular league and win big in the JV league this season. It's been the exact fucking opposite. Brees and Colston will probably win me the game tonight (they just have to beat Gore's points by like 6 or 7). Boldin and Breaston's lack of production combined with Dallas laying a fucking duck against the Bears offense killed me in the JV league. Also, running backs. I chose poorly.

It probably would have been nice for Jahvid Best to be in my starting lineup this week in the JV league.

My Bat Country team did well today, even if I'm having problems with my WR/RB slot. Cutler has done well.  I think Welker/Andre Johnson tandem is going to have some nice weeks.

edit: I could still lose, if somehow Pierre Thomas has a monster day while at the same time SF defense/special teams get some scores.

I may have done the same thing, but I'm totally stacked at WR. Gerrard was also benched in that game after throwing four interceptions, so who knows what will happen now. I'm a big Sims-Walker fan though. He helped me to 12 straight wins after adding him last year, several of those being close matches.

Last year he had the advantage of Torry Holt being higher on the depth chart in the beginning. Sims-Walker's success probly hinges on these other recievers stepping up.

How come we don't trade more in our league?

Because most people feel that they have to win a trade in order to make one.  Making both sides happy is often a challenge.

Tell me about it.  I benched Philly this week to go with the Patriot D versus Buffalo.  Because you know, it's Buffalo.   If the Pats D is going to score me all of like 2 pts versus Buffalo, I'm done with them.

Hell, I was thinking Miami's D against the Jets would rack up some points. Instead, they give me NEGATIVE points. Fuckers. Of course, since Colston is apparently not Drew Brees' TD guy anymore, Aaron Rodgers will likely lose me the game tonight unless all his TD's are to Greg Jennings.

I really screwed myself in the JVs. After a 3pt. effort from the Indy D last week, I dropped them for Seattle (lol) who gave me a goose egg this week.

Seattle has saved me so far. I can't believable. I'm starting to wonder if it's even worth using a middle round pick on DEF rather than bolstering other positions.

It is a tough call. The last few years I have waited until my last pick to bother with DEF, hoping to play the waiver wire for weekly match-ups.  However, I haven;t noticed any significant improvement in teams generally since.  The bigger issue with waiting is that fantasy football is usually won with player selection in the 6-10th rounds.  If you don't have an edge on a rookie WR or a #3 WR who can become #2 this year, then a solid DEF might be better in the long run.

This non-conclusive advice from a reliable 8-8, 7-9 or 9-7 fantasy footballer.  I have won once in 8 years of 2-3 leagues.

I just looked in the JV league, holy shit Stu and your Sea def giving you 29 points. Sucks for JWIV (I believe he's Canton Redbirds).  :why_so_serious:

I do think that unless you get one of the top 4-5 defenses, it may be worth it to go week by week picking up the best available that week. So basically, Bal/Pit/GB/Minn usually will be the ones to keep throughout a year. The rest seem to be feast or famine.

As long as the Seahawks can be good for me every other week, I think I'll be ok.  :awesome_for_real:

I've also been getting better performance from my second tier receivers over Moss and Colston. I may pass up solid performers in favor of guys who get targeted more. I've already benched Donald Driver in favor of Mark Clayton (Rams). Malcolm Floyd put up 18+ points on my bench while Colston only had 4.5 (but that was kind of a shock to me). It's tough not to tinker too much and just have faith in the long run.

Went in to last night's game trailing by five, with Hester and Forte playing for me.

On the good side, he had Greenbay's RB, on the bad side, he had Cutler.

So I lost, but I really don't care, since the Bears beat the filthy Cheezeheads.

And also!  I put Ray Rice on the bench and played Darren McFadden, the only guy I've picked up from the waiver wire so far.  I was sure that was going to backfire, but it sure as hell didn't.

The most amazing thing about being undefeated thus far is that Ray Rice has done absofuckinglutely nothing for me.  He has been a complete bust so far this year.  Pierre Thomas hasn't exactly lit it up either.

My experience has been that Fantasy success comes from a) drafting well in the late rounds and b) working the FA market.

I have done neither well this year and it's showing.

I won't argue the point, but it's Ray Rice.  RAY RICE!  I mean, if he isn't running for a hundred, it's because he's too busy receiving for a hundred.  Ray Fucking Rice!

Or maybe not so much anymore, what with the Ravens redefining their offense every year.  That and the fact that they seem to prefer McGahee around the goal line.

I'm having the same issue with Marques Colston this year. He's been all famine for me. The Saints aren't scoring as many TD's, which is really weighing me down.

I expect tonight's game to be a tough win for the Dolphins, but I think NE's D is just not that good.

My year so far has been disasterous.   For Bat Country, my top two players are a tight end and a player I haven't started yet.  For the JV team, it's Culter, who went backwards this week, and Jahvid Best, who was on the bench for his huge week.

Just awful, awful teams, but I've done better with worse starts.  This year I just haven't been able to keep up with the waver wire and went in with a pretty poor understanding of the personnel situations in the league.  Oh well, just part of being busy.

A massive 43 points.  This is less than half the teams projected scores.  I can understand one or two having bad days on any given Sunday but that's supposed to be countered by one or two having good days on any given Sunday.

I think I love my FF team.

Philip Rivers is a stud, and he always performs.
Roddy White is rock solid
T.O. is having a revival
Zach Miller overachieves every game.
Ray Rice woke the fuck up, finally.
Defense has put up points when I needed them (Pittsburgh is my main D, except for this week).
Kickers...keep on kicking I guess?

My problem children are Percy Harvin (who apparently will not develop into a major force anytime soon), Pierre Thomas, who is injured too much and doesn't get called on enough anyway.  Jonny Knox hasn't done anything either.  Did manage to pick up McFadden, who is a good bench option (gave me lots of points a week or two ago).  Got Kyle Orton locked away on the bench, too, for a rainy day.

Main league comes down to LT +4 points v. Jets D.  I'm about 60% confident I'll be able to pull out another subpar win.

I should rename my main Bat Country team as 1 QB 7 Sucking Black Holes. My team is awful. Marion Barber is a goddamn wasteland of no points. My wideouts are sub-10 usually sub-5 point performances. My kicker is scoring more than most of my team. Fuck's sake. But then I look at the scores of other games and scores are down all over the place. What the hell? Only two games with more than 100 points for the winning team?

JV is a little better, but not much. At least I have a winning record, and Boldin and Fitzgerald usually together make 1 whole WR. Hopefully Santonio Holmes ends up with good points tonight but I'm not counting on it. Thankfully, I don't need him to win.

What's your other option?  Even with Kolb at the helm, I'd still expect Philly to put up close to 20 points.

I think everyone is in the same boat.

I've got several Outs and Questionables on my team.

This team is awesome when its healthy.  But everyone keeps getting injured.  Thomas is out ANOTHER week.

Aaaaaannnd my backup backup W/R option is out with a groin. Ugh. I had to dump my second kicker for some scrub WR option out of Tennessee.

This is going to be ugly.

First halves: Kolb 17.65. points, Philip Rivers -2.6 points.  :ye_gods:

Yeah, that is getting a little too deep. Maybe something like 5 bonus points if they went over 100 yards in returns or something. It is the same with individual defensive players- it sounds really cool in theory, but is a huge pain in the ass in practice.

Best QB (Manning) and WR (Garcon) on BYE.  #1 RB went out for the season in week 2.  #2 WR (Steve Smith) just returning from injury. My backup QB also went down... which explains the Max Hall deal.  Ugh.  I bet he gives me negative points.

The only quality I have is at DEF and I grabbed that off the waiver wire.

My draft was weak and injuries and underperformance did the rest (Sims-Walker, Crabtree, etc)

Enjoy the win.  I don't think I'll see another this season.

Manning and Collie on a bye this week, Collie's out for a few weeks possibly, that is going to hurt. Cassel did good today covering for Manning's bye week for me though, and hopefully Roy Williams continues to do well as he did the last few weeks. If I can pull this week off I'll be happy. I have Williams left and a 20 point lead vs Austin and Witten, hopefully that lead can hold.

Also, damn you Cyrrex (Team Whippy) and that lucky horse-shoe that is obviously embedded in one of your orifices. There's no other way to explain 39 points from Roddy White, 20 from TO, and 20 from Harvin all in the same week :why_so_serious:

McFadden was listed as 70/30 play not play and even if he did play he would be limited.  So I gambled on a rookie wide-out that seemed to be breaking out.  If I had played McFadden I would probably have won this week.

In the JV league, even if I had played Cadillac Williams and Matt Ryan over Brees and someone else on my team, I still would have lost by like 20 points. That team is starting to suck while my regular team is on a streak. Thanks, Brees. And of course, next week is a dilemma - do I start Brees against Pittsburgh's tough D or do I go with Hasselbeck against Oakland? I have no choice in the JV league, as Matt Ryan is on a bye.

So, Randy Moss just got kicked off the Vikings. I'll use that to segway into Week 8's Draft Busts and Steals:

Biggest First Round Fantasy Busts
1 - Shonn Greene - 40th ranked in RBs, 159th in overall fantasy points.
2 - Ryan Matthews - 31st ranked in RBs, 122nd in overall fantasy points.
3 - Randy Moss - 27th ranked in WRs, 86th in overall fantasy points, currently NOT on anybody's roster. Expect him to move up to biggest bust soon!

Biggest Draft/Waiver Steals

1 - Brandon Lloyd - Undrafted WR wire pickup, #1 WR, #11 in yahoo rankings
2 - Darren McFadden - 13th Round, #3 WR, #6 in yahoo rankings
3 - Kyle Orton - 11th Round, #3 QB, #3 in overall fantasy points

Have used McFadden a couple of times to good effect.  Have Orton sitting safely on my bench, waiting for Rivers to go on his bye week.

Another bust?  I have Ray Rice, and while he doesn't qualify as a major bust, he has been disappointing.  So has Pierre Thomas.

T.O. has been a bit of a steal.  He has given me good points every week I've played him.  And aside from a bad week last week, Zach Miller has been solid as well.

If Tamme didn't have a bad case of the dropsies, he'd be fantasy gold. As it is, he's still going to be good points.

Next weekend is looking dire for me in the main F13 league. Brees and both my starting wideouts are on byes. Hasselbeck would be a decent backup QB option, but his vage is sprained. I have to scour the waiver wire which is full of guys who have been hurt and may or may not play. I'm fucked.

Thought I had a shot in my league this week, up against a good team ahead of me in the standings. Big game from Farve, a few other suprises, and I had 80 points with Miles Austin still to play.

Then I looked at his team. Arian Foster and whoever that RB in Cleveland is. 64 points he gets, from just two players...

Sorry guys, I'm trying to keep up with my team and at least make sure I have a roster full of starters, but had some issues this week and it got away from me. I cannot stand guys that don't manage their teams, especially in a head to head league where win/loss is more important than total points (as Nebu points out).

Hopefully this week is not the norm and I'll at least be able to make sure I have a roster of starters each week.  How I'm still in 2nd place confuses and frightens me.

Once it got to goal line I felt good, before that point they were too far behind to consider running the ball much.  That TD won this game for me but TO not catching that 3rd TD in the end zone cost me on my money league.  Can't have it all.

Who do you have for potential trade, say, as a RB?  Wide Receivers I would consider trading:

Mike Williams (SEA)
Jonny Knox
Percy Harvin
T.O.

...but to be honest, I'd probably only trade T.O. or Percy for an upper eschelon RB.  I also have Roddy White, but there's pretty much nobody in the league I'd trade him for  :awesome_for_real:

Screwed the pooch in the JV league, but I think I squeaked into the playoffs in the regular league, thanks to Nebu (or Kyle Orton if you prefer).

An incomplete list of QBs I have used this season-
Tony Romo (mostly dead)
Shaun Hill (dead)
Colt McCoy (mostly dead)
Brett Favre (hopefully dead)

If you have a QB you want to see injured, make sure he is available on waivers and I will pick him up this week.

I am intrigued that this year followed draft position in determining the playoffs 7/8 of the top draft positions made the playoffs, and #1 was still on top at regular season close. Doesn't really inspire me if I draw another low pick next year. :ye_gods:

No excuse, I autodrafted MJD with the 3rd overall and he has been horrible this year except for the past few weeks when he remember how to run.  It drafted me a TE who I don't even start before it grabbed a QB.  You can overcome a bad draft especially in a league with as small a roster as ours.

I wish that I could use draft position as an excuse.  I just did a terrible job at the draft.

2.    (17)    Ryan Grant    RB  - Out week 2
3.    (40)    Steve Smith    WR   :uhrr:
4.    (45)    Michael Crabtree    WR    :uhrr:
5.    (68)    Justin Forsett    RB    :uhrr:
6.    (73)    Mike Sims-Walker    WR    :uhrr:
7.    (96)    Philadelphia    DEF   - Meh
8.    (101)    Zach Miller    TE
9.    (124)    Chad Henne    QB
10.    (129)    Mohamed Massaquoi    WR    :uhrr:
11.    (152)    Nate Burleson    WR    :ye_gods:
12.    (157)    New York    DEF
13.    (180)    Mark Sanchez    QB
14.    (185)    David Akers    K

Zach Miller and the NY Giants D were the only good picks that I made.  That and taking Peyton Manning with the 12 pick.

It's down to Brandon Jacobs vs. Mario Manningham and Lawrence Tynes for me. Jacobs has to have a MONSTER goddamn night while Tynes breaks his leg or some shit. I'm not that worried about Manningham but I'm already 8 points down and any TD's Jacobs scores will mean Tynes gets points. And I still have to hope the Vikings somehow win to give the Packers a better chance at the playoffs. Fuck.

Fucking Oakland Raiders. How do you give up negative points to the fucking Jags? Of course, it's not like there were better options based on matchups (and even KC would have given me positive points) but damn. This game could very well be decided by kickers and defense.

It's like Ray Rice (who I have in the JV league)...he's underperformed all year.  That doesn't make him bad.

We could try to adjust QB scoring, as they tend to occupy all of the top spots.  Funny enough, only maybe 2 or 3 go in the first round every year.

This was a pretty subpar year for super star offensive talent.  100 used to be an average score for a winner.  This year, it's been a high.

This was a deep year for points in the NFL, and the stats bear that out. In 2009 removing the one outlier, the average projected rank of the top 25 point producers in our league was 65 when we started the season. That means in a 14 man league, you were getting to a lot of the heavy hitters in the 5th round.

In 2010, the average projected rank of the top 25 point producers was 96. That means you were seeing top 25s in the 7th round and later, many of which were undrafted.

Seriously, I'd drop thrown TD's to 4 points.  It gives more value to position players.

Ok, I will try and remember.  We could also try Performance Scoring. If a player has an outstanding game, he gets extra points. I generally don't like that as much because dominant players become even more dominant, but it could make sense for QBs if we tweak the TDs down to 4.

I don't mind the randomness that the current scoring gives, I look at this league more as something to bullshit about rather than the ultimate commentary on my football acumen and penis size (that's what GearScore is for, amirite?).  I'm cool with going to 4-points for thrown TDs, I think that's pretty standard.  I'm leery of going to anything more unusual/complicated.  We always have a few players who can't make the draft.  And the more unusual your scoring system is, the more it hurts people who miss the draft (or people who don't spend tons of time on it).

No matter what system we use, I will vociferously talk shit about how my shitty team will beat everyone else next season as I have in the past!

Should we start a keeper league? Or does everyone already have one keeper league and F13 is the no pressure league?

Also, no.1 v no.2 for the consolation bowl.

I joined my first keeper league this year- took over a team that was winless the previous year. Made the playoffs as the number 4 seed and lost in the first round

I would welcome a keeper league if someone wants to organize it.

Keeper leagues suffer if not handled in a salary cap/auction format.  I'd keep that in mind.

But for now, you get to wallow in the knowledge that Jay Cutler sent you packing.

I know you only try to hurt me because you love me.

I don't think dropping points is the answer. If anything points should be strategically increased to spread out the weekly results a bit.

Perhaps increasing points per yd for receivers and RB?  I'd be for that.  It would reduce the impact of K and DEF.

What about PPR?

It would increase the value of WRs and RBs.  However, it does make a few players extremely valuable.

Which one of you is "What Would Palin Do" in the JV league?  Cuz you're going MOTHERFUCKING DOWN this week.*

*Unless you win, in which case I will go back in time to edit this post, claiming how I knew all along how I was going to be having an off week at the most inopportune of moments.

There you go, I've edited your time stamp so this is now valid for the championship game.

Looking at the matchups, I do believe I'm fucked more than I normally would have been. At least I have Collie back...oh wait, nevermind :oh_i_see:

I have never played in or managed a keeper league. Worth looking into. Not sure I would want 14 teams, though. More likely that someone drops out year to year.

Gah, Cutler tear up the Jets.  I did not see this coming.  I hope I don't need the 20 points he has over Garrard at this point.  :awesome_for_real:

.....and then absolutely everyone on your team decides to play out of their minds this week, and everyone on my team takes the week off.  Unbelievable.  Great that I'm going to have my worst game of the year in the damned Final.

Though I suppose it's still possible that Percy Harvin and Roddy White will put up 60 points or so. :oh_i_see:

Holy shit, Josh Freeman rained 42.15 points of hellfire on me in the third-place game.  And Chargers D putting up negative 1 agianst the Bengals?  I'm gonna get rolled by the Drunks, whose 2 running backs totalled 4.3 points.  Unless LeSean uses that extra day of rest to bust out a 300 yard game.

Welp, it's all down to Drew Brees for me. And Colston but really, it's all about Brees. I need 30 points combined from the two of them against Atlanta or I'm hosed in the final. Needless to say, with the Saints on the road, I'm going to be living and dying in front of the TV tonight.

Thank you Freeman, never got a chance to change my lineup and replace MJD.

Well shit. 11 points. Had I gone with KC's defense over Jacksonville's and Mike Thomas over Brandon Jacobs, I'd have won. Fucking Giants.

I honestly thought White would have a chance to put up 25-30 because that is normally how shitty my luck is. For him to only put up 12 though makes me happy. It's one of those times that I look at your bench and am happy that the match ups didn't pan out as they normally do. Especially since you had a shitload of great match ups (players on teams fighting for playoff spots playing against teams with weak defenses in the areas you needed them to be weak).

Yeah, I can't complain about the matchups, because they were good ones (on paper).  Oh well, that's how it goes.  Congrats on your victory.

I'd like to, first and foremost, thank myself for making so many correct picks.  Secondly, I'd like to send an extra thanks to both Haemish and Nebu, for being slightly less competitive than they were last year.

You had a great year during a period where the NFL was all over the place.  I bow to your superior ability to adjust.

Congrats!
