Title: Blizzcon 2010
Post by: BitWarrior on November 13, 2009, 08:19:28 AM
It's in Vegas, baby...my hometown current place of residence :) I'll be there with bells on.

http://www.lvcva.com/meetings/convention-calendar-detail.jsp?id=65126

July 30-31, 2010. Apparently LVCVA jumped the gun on releasing this info.

Update:

Confirmed false by Blizzard themselves. Damn these interwebs.

It's been taken down now.

Hmmm. Vegas in July is not cheap, nor not anywhere as temperate as the Coast. I might have reservations on going there.

You CAN find cheap rooms in Vegas, but I prefer not to stay in the Excalibur or Circus Circus.

You probably won't get lice at Excalibur. What more do you want?

I have two rooms in my house available; rooms go to the highest bidder(s) ;)

http://www.wow.com/2009/11/13/blizzcon-2010-las-vegas-convention-center-retracts-statements/

Quote
For the past day WoW.com has been hard at work getting the story straight on the discrepancies between what the Las Vegas Convention Center was saying about BlizzCon 2010, and what Blizzard was saying. Until recently, the LVCC had been telling us, and others, who inquired that BlizzCon 2010 was being held there July 30th and 31st. Blizzard was, more or less, denying it. Given both organizations are quite large and reputable, this was quite a confusing situation.

However as of this afternoon, the Las Vegas Convention Center emailed us to let us know that due to their human error, the confirmation they were giving was false.

According to the LVCC, Blizzard and the LVCC had spoken once about having BlizzCon 2010 in Las Vegas, and a hold was placed on those dates as a marketing tactic to entice Blizzard to the area. However, that hold was inadvertently turned into a confirmed booking, leading to the inaccurate confirmations and resulting issues.

The LVCC has apologized for the confusion, and thus ends the saga of BlizzCon in Las Vegas.

Who knows, could just be them denying it for now.

I did find it odd that they would possibly move there as it didn't make much sense. Anaheim is right down the road from Blizzard HQ, and they are nowhere NEAR max capacity for that convention center.

It was pretty crowded last year, but yeah - they still could jam more stuff in there.

I think there are still more rooms they could add, too.

Blizzcon 2010 announced

October 22-23 in Anaheim.

http://us.blizzard.com/blizzcon/?rhtml=y

I'm glad it's later, personally. I'm already headed out to DC in the summer for a week or so. It will be interesting to see how this relates to the expansion.

With new trans-dimensional pocket technology that triples the size of the Anaheim Convention Center without taking up more real estate, and Justin Bieber as the musical guest as he matures from his teeny bopper ways into hardcore rock 'n roll. Also as a bonus: a first glimpse of Blizzard's new MMO and every attendee gets the option to upgrade their ticket to have an 'escort' who cosplays as a Blizzard I.P. character and is available for after parties.

~insert way too many expletives here~

I was 7,269 in queue.

They sold out around 3000 or so. Suddenly went to the stupid sold out message, didn't catch the exact number remaining ahead of me.

Looks like there were only 20,000 tickets available, if everyone ahead of me was buying 5 each.

To everyone who bought the tickets just to sell them on Ebay: DIE IN A MOTHERFUCKING CAR FIRE YOU RAPACIOUS AVARICIOUS COCKSUCKERS!!~~

I hope Saturday is better. That's 2am Sunday my time. Should be fun waking up then just to wait in an e-line.

Not that it makes it any better, but the volume of tickets on ebay is still very low compared to the total amount of tickets.

3.8k - 4k. I didn't get in at 4300. I goofed; I wasn't used to the process and thought when I fast clicked to get into the queue that I'd only be given one ticket since I didn't enter a quantity. My mistake cost me a chance.

Group of friends where you're the odd man out, looking to make a marriage proposal IRL for your RP significant other... crazy shit like that.

I dunno, trying to prioritize tickets. The larger the amount of people that need them, the least likely magic will happen.

More stuff was up. Pink murloc doll, horde/alliance towels, horde/alliance flags (the horde versions of which cost about 5 bucks more than their alliance counterpart, I giggled at that).

I usually pick up a bunch of stuff, but I only opted for the BlizzCon 2010 poster and the Diablo 3 poster this year. Maybe if I am compelled enough I'll pick some stuff up at the con itself, but I doubt it.

Title: Re: Blizzcon 2010

Yeah last year was the first year where no keys were given out.

AFAIK the other 3 times, the keys were used. Burning Crusade beta, Wrath beta, SC2 beta.

Title: Re: Blizzcon 2010

You know, I punched in my SC2 beta code thing and NEVER got into the beta. Poor me!

EDIT: That said, that MAY have been the reasoning for not doing keys last year. SC2 beta hadn't started when last year's BlizzCon happened, and that was the only beta coming up that a key made sense for ... but everyone from the year before already HAD a SC2 beta key.

Title: Re: Blizzcon 2010
Post by: Ingmar on October 14, 2010, 12:25:21 PM
given that Heart of the Swarm is supposed to be set for 2012 and we already know all about Cataclysm, the only 'big news' things that seem obvious for them to be able to dump on us this year are either Diablo 3 beta or release date, or a first look at the new MMO stuff.

That said the schedule is up and there's nothing about the new MMO on there - but they've been tricky about that sort of thing before with D3.

Title: Re: Blizzcon 2010
Post by: Nonentity on October 14, 2010, 04:06:50 PM
They wouldn't shoot Cataclysm in the foot by announcing anything about the MMO this early. I'm pretty sure this will be either an off year, where they announce the rest of the Diablo 3 classes (they did that one year where they had nothing to say), or they'll announce the Diablo 3 beta, or something about Heart of the Swarm.

Title: Re: Blizzcon 2010
Post by: Ingmar on October 14, 2010, 04:11:02 PM
Oh right, I forgot we were still missing classes. It occurs to me we haven't seen the Cataclysm cinematic yet, so that will probably be in there.

You know it is just going to be all RAWR DEATHWING and no player models in it though.

EDIT: Although, maybe they will make it about the new races, that would imply more like TBC. I can hope.

I'm more or less so confused in my own logic at this point that I'm not even sure whether I really meant D2 or D3.

Anywho, if they don't announce some new IP I suppose I would be fine with the relevant D3 news, but not as excited.

You know, they COULD'VE had some of those "oh fuck the world is ending arghghghgh" scenes include characters from the first cinematic and it would've been almost perfect. Perfection is impossible, of course, since apparently Metzen is going to do Deathwing's narration in his best approximation of the horrible Lich King voice.

One detailed character model, lots of detailed environments, really, really REALLY shitty narration...

That looked like it was the production values of a normal Blizzard cinematic (without interesting characters) with the content and planning of a patch trailer. I think while Blizzard has multiple concurrent projects that require Cinematics resources, the individual cinematics for each game are going to suffer.

I don't see why anyone cares about opening cinematics.  They are just not important, especially in a MMO.

Okay, so now that Blizzard has shown the opening cinematic ahead of Blizzcon, it seems like they're kind either clearing the slate for something, or it's going to be completely underwhelming for their opening ceremony.

And yeah, that cinematic was boring as hell.

Yeah they were pretty good.  The Q&A session, however, was painful.  So many awkward people.

And then the Thrall/ Jaina question.  :awesome_for_real:

I'm watching the Live Raid right now and it's hilarious watching Paragon wipe to buffed Molten Core bosses.  To be fair, they're fighting 4 at once but they're missing all the mechanics.   It's Shazz, Geddon, Mag and Gehennas.   The first two wipes were because nobody was watching for Living Bomb and BLAMMO, 70% of the raid died.   Ahh, the good old days.

Title: Re: Blizzcon 2010
Post by: Merusk on October 25, 2010, 04:43:00 PM
The costumes were as sedate as the presentation this year.  The costume contest was only interesting for the 3 folks who, through various methods, tried to ape the Goat-like legs of Illidan and the Dranei females. None were what I'd call successful.   Illidian won 2nd place tho, so kudos to him.

Really, the dance contest was more interesting to me this year.  The dwarf male guy was great and there was a tense moment where the doing the Undead dance broke his leg.

Title: Re: Blizzcon 2010

The broken leg was a fake from what people were saying around the con.

Title: Re: Blizzcon 2010
Post by: Merusk on October 26, 2010, 03:59:19 AM
Yeah, Jay said he broke his leg, but given the lack of a very loud *CRACK* and him not howling in pain I figured it was a sprain or a strain at worst.   However, that's how it was presented and he was carried off so in the moment there was some tension.

That she was in tears or the answer was no-way not ever, when Jaina's practically humping him like the manly Orc he is every time they interact?

Title: Re: Blizzcon 2010
Post by: Sjofn on October 28, 2010, 12:13:52 PM
That she was in tears, I've never really saw the supposed flirting/sexual tension/whatever you want to call it between Jaina and Thrall. She is certainly not "practically humping him," she treats him like a friend she respects and who has the same goals as she does (peace). In fact he's pretty much the only other person on Azeroth who shares her goal, so it's not really surprising she likes him a lot. But I have never, ever, EVER thought she had anything remotely resembling a crush on him.

Right, but isn't the whole point of Blizzcon to foster better developer-player relations in order to sell more stuff? Kinda defeats the purpose if you give a cold shoulder to the players adamant enough to wait in the Q and A line.

But at the same time, yes. I would hate to be on that panel.

Making decisions on your game by listening to the lunatic fringe that's willing to wait in line forever in a gaming conference is like making coaching decisions based on the ramblings of sports talk radio callers.

I don't think he was suggesting that you actually act on what the lunatic fringe says in the QA line, just that you don't smirk like a douche while they mumble their insanity.

I actually think (based only upon the video clips) that they mostly achieved that goal.
