Solid. It's the most popular pve server. Downside is that it also serves as the unofficial RP-PVE server.
Fine as long as you don't hang around serpent's head inn.

I just transferred my 18 PoM Dionydis to Wiccana.

Agony doesn't seem to have many people, and those that it does have have a penchant for mindless gankage that just annoys me. You'd think that the general state of AoC would motivate even ganktards to at least let new people get into the game enough to stay and pay.

A much higher pet class ganker with those flesheater-like pets camped a rez whatchamacallit outside Tortage so I logged for the last time around the, oh, 5th gank. Some games I can weather the ganking and such to play the bigger, better, funner end game but in AoC I don't even know what that is yet (or if there even is that). :oh_i_see:

I'm just trying the game to see if I even like it for crissake.

Not 100% sure what we will do for a guild - no answer from the powers that be, so cannot invite anyone to the classic BC group.  Maybe we could start a new one - I recommend Nebu or Lum to head it up.

I'll be happy to create a guild, but I'm not playing much at all as my daughter is visiting me.  If someone else has the drive to create a guild in the meantime that doesn't have a ridiculous name, I'd be happy to cover invites and stuff.

On an unrelated note, does anyone have any comments on playing a pure caster?  Demonologist is what I'm leaning toward.

Did Schild give up completely on AoC already?  I know he has the power.  Maybe he's just ignoring our pleas in the hopes of driving us to Agony.

I'd like to stay if we could since we have a tiny city in instance 1 and people restarting later would still be in the existing one.  Starting a new guild would be sad. :cry2:

Its an f13 guild - so won't take much "maintenance" per say.  Basically You just monitor who has what rights - and even then the people here have YEARS of reputation you can base decisions on.  Personally, for me, its a means of communication.  Just makes it easier to coordinate.

I would do it, but I am too fickle.

I'm back on during this 2weeks free, so I'll get some people invited/promoted. Need to bug schild to log in and transfer command though, I'm one step down from the top as "Courtesan" Look for Rattran or Detlef

Should give it the structure we have in EQ2 BC. I've got it set to three basic levels: new members with chat only, probationary members with a few more rights, and regular f13/full member who can do everything but dissolve the guild (only I can do that, and won't). Makes life easier when everyone can recruit and access the bank. Anyone abuses it, they get the boot. Not sure how AoC sets up guild banks, EQ2 has a log for each bank transaction.

Breas is level 11 or 12 now.

My opinion of course. But the game from 1 to 20 is the best that has ever been. It got lame after that and there were (are ) bugs . Just try /LFG and you will see. ( never has worked). But the hope of a F13 guild? Well I know a fun week at best but hope springs eternal in the human breast and all like that.

Eeeeevery so often, your RDB...thing...will tell the patcher you need to download +2GB of files.

Yeah.  So not one of AoC's finer moments.  If, indeed, this is what happened to you.

I have decided that I just have a bad memory.  I don't remember the zoom buttons in character creation, and I think I must have done something good to the graphics settings and logged out.  Also I don't recall there being a level limit on guild chat.  Whatever, time to shoot arrows made from snakes.

Logging on now for a bit, I'll invite/promote anyone I can, but due to Funcom's usual "high kalibur dedication to kwality" promotions can only be done if you're in the person's vicinity. So trek on along to the Guild City in Purple Hull Peas Swamp, instance 1.

<edit> Logged out now. I can invite people to the guild at any level, and once someone gets out of Tortage I can meet up with them and make it so they can invite. Bat Country has a Tier 1 city in Purple Lotus Swamp, you can pay a gold there to get a 'Path of Asura' style skill to fast travel there.

I enjoy the Conqueror, feels pretty Conany. Lots of wading in with my two-hander and chopping the shit out of things. Played with stances, offensive beat me up too much, defensive reduced my damage too much (while soloing), so I'm ignoring them unless I group. Through the teens I'm getting some dual-wielding skills, so I made a second hotbar for that setup but haven't really gotten comfortable with it like I am with the big slab of steel.

Also broke out the few Savage Swords I managed to keep over the years (sadly, not the early ones, they were all stolen) and reading through 'em. Might have to break out my Howard books when I finish the Hamilton I'm on. Really gets you in the mood.

Just busting your chops. Nice to see a familiar name. I did use two of my EQ2 names on a couple guys I haven't played yet, Caviglia and Haruspex. But the guy I've been playing, Breas, is out of Celtic legend.

Grandmother. Eggs. Suck them. There is currently a bug in the game preventing me from promoting people in the guild unless they are in near proximity.

Not that I want to intrude on your pveness, but is it possible any of you might roll alts on Agony?  It's rather empty and I can count the number times I've been ganked outside of Tortage on one hand.

Since my slots are full and I've got five or six 30+ characters on Wiccana, no.  My play time is already pretty low.  I'd rather not do the 1-30 and quit routine again.  Time for new areas when I can play.

I like it more than LotRO for initial appeal, but the game is extremely bland.  The more I play, the more I want to reactivate my EQ2 account.

I've got a demonologist and Bear shaman so far.  Maybe I need to look at melee.

Melee is what is really different about the game, combat-wise.  Even if you don't enjoy it, you should certainly at least try it.

I may do some LOTRO again.  I have the lifetime account.  I never could get into EQ2.  Does it get better past level 12-15 or so?

I'm having fun playing my Conqueror, but it does feel very cheap compared to EQ2, I miss a lot of the polish.

But I'm digging the spirit of the thing, I've read the Conan comics and later the Howard stories since I was a kid. So the atmosphere is nice, and playing a big Celtic hairy guy wading into hordes of enemies swinging a giant slab of steel is definitely working for me so far.

Long term, who knows. Rattran and schild blew my mind with the crafting and city crap I hadn't even thought about...to be honest it's part of why I like EQ2, I already know most of the quirks and systems. I'll probably hit up Norrath this winter, but for now I can see chilling in Hyboria.

Thanks to Sky, I now have 3 toons in Batcountry. My 50 ranger, Nalas, my 35 Dark Templar Tinnax and my 18 Guardian Hekktor (formerly Engels).

I'm hoping that I can get some help with Wild Lands pre-Sanctum quest, cuz this cursed scroll thing is annoying me with the constant minion spawn every 15 minutes. I'm not quite high enough to get to the hand in at the far end of the zone.

Title: Re: Wiccana - Bat Country Carebear Edition (Roster updated on 7/10)
Post by: Redgiant on July 12, 2009, 03:11:11 AM
Dionydis is now a 28 PoM, and I know practically nothing about AoC in terms of dungeons, expectations on gear at level, etc.

Is there some particular place(s) I should be trying to get groups in that I can't solo? I've been doing Khopshef quests lately, and I have a few blues and lesser stuff but I don't have too much trouble with 2-3 same levels, maybe 4 with all my self hots on and Repulse.

Also, my +magic dmg is around 100 across the board. Seems okay for solo questing so far, no idea about dungeons or groups since I have never even grouped yet in the game.

I'm still not even sure *how* a PoM heals others very well, sicne the only thing I can do to them is a small hot and that Radiance 300 or so point heal (that you cannot recast on them for 1 minute).

Am I completely missing a skill tree or something that lets yuou heal in a more varied way for grouping?

Title: Re: Wiccana - Bat Country Carebear Edition (Roster updated on 7/10)
Post by: gimpyone on July 12, 2009, 04:59:33 AM
As a PoM, you get emenation of life and wave of healing.  The first one is a group wide heal while wave is cone based, meaning that only those in a 120 degree area in front of you will be hit by it.  I think most PVE PoMs spec divinity for lance of mitra and for the healing, etc.

Title: Re: Wiccana - Bat Country Carebear Edition (Roster updated on 7/10)
Post by: Lantyssa on July 12, 2009, 09:20:39 AM
You'll want Lance of Mitra.  I run in a Dark Templar/Priest of Mitra duo and the Lance is just awesome.

Title: Re: Wiccana - Bat Country Carebear Edition (Roster updated on 7/10)
Post by: Redgiant on July 13, 2009, 03:04:22 PM
Interesting, so a PoM heals mainly by dueling heal vs. damage scrolling combat text.

There is a burst heal, but it isn't meant as a constant reliance. You basically HoT the crap out of someone to counter the DPS in realtime, and kd/disarm where possible to give HoTs some catch up time.

It's the prevention/counter vs. cure model. Definitely more prediction and attention needed, which does seem more involving and fun to me so far.

I went into Black Castle last night with some folks, after doing some group quests in Yrmish country. Hence the source of my observations above.

Does that sum it up accurately?

Yah, since all you really have to cast are the hots, and must save the big heal for when it's really needed, you can fool around the rest of the time. Really liked this model.

Updated my graphics drivers and cranked the graphics back up and was able to play with max graphics for a couple hours last night. Nice view distance, ran pretty good, a couple dips to 30fps. Cool to stand on the edge of Conall Valley and see players running along the far side, without making everything samey and primitive like Planetside had to.

They fixed the bug where you need to be next to the officer to promote, so everyone should have invite rights as we get to them.

I still don't know shit about guild structure, crafting, our city, etc :) I only know how to drench the sands with the blood of my enemies with my yard of steel.

Fatalities - cool, but what is the deal when I'm locked into a long fatality while in multiple combat? I wipe out the first mob, the fatality plays out but I can't swing at the other two mobs while they're beating on me?

Is a Fatality sort of like LOTRO's FMs (Fellowship Manuevers)?

No.

When you hit a mob or player with a special ability that does enough damage to kill them, you have a % chance of triggering a fatality move as a death blow. This could be cutting their head off, of blowing them up with a spell. You are then granted a short buff (like 10 seconds) of increased health, stamina and mana regen.

Dionydis, 51 PoM

In Eiglophan Mtns atm doing a lot of mountain climbing.

I like the visuals, combat, general gameplay.

I'm still not sold on exactly what the end game is supposed to be like. Unlike DAoC, I am not "itching" to, say, build up a guild town, attack anything in particular, or even know who/what I should be "hating".

I always end up falling off of PvP games that don't have a natural in-game motivation to have enemies, take sides and take/defend territory.

Edit: What I mean is, I am currently enjoying PvE, but am not at all sure if I will get into/stay for PvP. I have yet to even understand what constitutes "sides".

Since there aren't even different enemy races/classes which your own side doesn't have, there is no racial or class tension at all. What is supposed to be the motivation for fighting each other?

Pvp isn't split down racial lines? That's odd. Seems a natural.

"Cultural" servers worked that way, but failed hard as far as I know. Thing is your culture determine class availability, so Stygians only had casters while Aquilonians and Cimmerians only meleers. Good for a FUN server, but you need a much healthier game for that.

Well, it is true to the IP. Too bad Funcom couldn't make it work.

Also, roster update. Two days of stomach bug bumped me to lvl 48 conqueror.

Grats! I'm still, what, 45? Too hot to roast my face in front of my LCD, so haven't been playing much.

58 tonight, have to start looking for my next playground.

Field of the Dead was good for 40s. So was Nobles District in OT.

Eiglophian Mountains was good for 50s, but just dried up on quests.

EIther Ymir's Pass (off Eiglophian) or somewhere else next?

If you've already cleared most non-elite quests in eiglo, Ymir is directed at 55+. Might as well go there. Otherwise, villas.
Leave Thunder River for the 60's.

Great, I'll do all I can in Ymir's then since I'm 57.

Who is in charge of the Bat Country guild now that Sky is done?  I might like to sign up my new character - haven't played the old one since the first month.  Or is BC just sad and lonely now?

Someone else was promoted to the top the same day I was, I forget who it was. And I gave everyone who logged on while I was playing invite rights, tried to make it like the EQ2 setup where everyone could do everything but break up the guild.

BC is always sad and lonely, Mo Migne.

Singe Da Minge, if you can tell me a specific time you'll be on, I can make it a point to log on to tag you. After 5:30 PST tonight or tomorrow sometime.

Thanks.  I'll try.  I usually play in the morning or afternoon EDT.  I know.  I'm useless in a guild because no one ever sees me.  Evenings are hard for me because by then I'm usually, you know.  Mellow.

Small detail. What's your toon's name? I'm on as either Nalas or Tinnax

I was sad because all my names disappeared.  Now I'm Berte, named after my auntie, and Baloney, named after what I said when I saw all my names were gone.

I have invite rights, also. I'll try to catch you during the day if you haven't already been invited. I may even have leader rights, but cannot remember what Sky set me to.

FYI, I cancelled today. I got tired of the complete unintelligible garbled mess that is the Dark Templar, and I am not really that interested in the other classes.

I'm 77 PoM now, and I disbanded since no one is really playing now.

I'll see it through to 80, but I'm still not sold on the level of team or realm cohesion needed. It is just a solo game all the way to 80 for me, with a couple stops along the way to duo or group for purely random encounters with others.

What I remember, about PvE, is:

Overground = 99% solo
Epic overground (same zones, way better loot) = 100% group
Dungeons = 100% group

PvP =75% group

Doesn't feel that terribly wrong to me.

Well, the minute - and I mean the minute - I reached 80 on my PoM I logged out and have not been back since Aion launched.

There just doesn't seem to be anything at all to do other than level to 80 to me.

Thee is no ongoing publicized RvR that I know about.

RvR is a disaster. The rewards for holding Battlekeeps are ridiculous, and you don't even get reall bragging rights as the fact you hold a BK is basically hidden under layers of clunky menus. The lack of any 'alliance' tool spoils the game of any diplomatic vibe. A beautiful, working PvP-oriented action MMORPG reduced to a constant 24/7 royal rumble close to respawn points and insta-kill guards.

Conquerable forts are coming, but it's so so late, especially without the chance to form alliances.

O HAI.

I've rolled a Khitai Assassin on Wiccana. Her name's Anzi. Apparently I'm the only person on the server who's read Kay Kenyon.

I want to state that, about 5 months after the quoted comments, many things changed for the better.
