I have absolutely no clue who this is, but I translated the text below the picture.

Q: What can you tell us about the design inspiration for the females in-game?

A: "Hyung-Tae Kim is amazing. It may come as a shock, but I've never known a woman's touch, but his drawings come to life in a way I've never seen. It's as if your face is just buried in tits. Left, right, up, down, tits. It's a constant motorboat of awesome. God, I love that man more than anything else on this earth."

Are random panty shots just required for any images from asianesque games?

No. Don't be that guy. We have enough of those here. They are, however, requirements for anything involving art by Hyung-Tae Kim.

Just struck me on the video panning. I have NO idea how this thing would play, but it visually made me think of a Too Human gameplay video with nicer graphics and zoom.

You can only hope it's as actiony as Too Human (who's controls I hated on the 360 controller), as it's an NCSoft MMOG.

It was no shock at all.

The trailer/video has taught me a very important lesson.  My tastes are very different from those of the current gaming generation.  This just didn't appeal to me in any way, shape, or form.

I think I have pretty broad tastes.  The japanese/korean fighting style games have just never captured my interest.  I'm not a mortal combat or final fantasy fan and that's what this first struck me as.  I don't like the art.  I especially don't like the pre-pubescent, scantily clad, and disproportionate female bodies.

I think you may be jumping to conclusions if you think that the current gaming generation would play this game, at least in this country.

Swords aren't big enough to be final fantasy. Unless we're just seeing low level content and the game goes all WoW shoulderpads on us.

This style of art just completely turns me away from the game and any game that looks like it. I also can't stand anime, so that probably pretty much says it all.

Well, yes, that's Hyung-Tae Kim for you. You should see his previous works, they're even more disproportionate. Just horribly so.

Gametrailers version: http://www.gametrailers.com/player/usermovies/247181.html

Anyway, what I was getting at, is while I enjoy playing games where the art style appeals to me. It doesn't keep me from playing anything. Basically, Fun still more important. Who knows if this will be fun. I just wanted to link to those disproportionate women getting faceslammed by an ogre. Lots of times. And then an effeminate dude getting wrecked by one of those freaky women.

So. How's that going? What you ask? Not being in touch with gamers, like, at all. Magna Carta - same artist - was, until Persona 3, the best selling Atlus game. What is Magna Carta?

That's a very good point and one that I should take to heart.  I'll try not to be so judgemental based on the look alone.  That creaky sound is me attempting to open my mind.

What kind of gussed up tarty weebo whore child of Street Fighter and Final Fantasy is this?  :ye_gods:  :ye_gods: There were more upskirt shots in that video than a webcammed bathroom. Is this some kind of PVE massively multiplayer fighting game? It's pretty, I'll give it that. But for a gameplay video, it tells me stunningly little about the game.

I'm all about boobs, don't get me wrong. I'm also about sexily clad women doing combat. But its the child's face on the buxom woman's body that's creepy. Anyone that digs that shit is a bit bent, in my not so humble opinion.

Also, the sword-fighting-in-a-nightie strains suspension of disbelief to the breaking point.

How did it sell in the US? And how did it stack up against the market as a whole, not just other ones from the same company?

And remember we're talking about an MMO here, right? The realities of that market are a bit different than those of console boob fighters and Asian RPGs.

I'm talking about Atlus America. Not Atlus Japan. Magna Carta was a korean game localized by Atlus America for America. Hyung-Tae Kim, as you can tell by his name, is a Korean artist. And huge over there.

And yea, I know we're not talking about an MMOG. But even Blizzard puts revealing armor on their 8 polygon female models.

So wait a minute - your basis for this being something that every teenage gamer in America will clamor for the minute they hear about it is that some other game with the same artist was briefly the best-selling game by a subsidiary publishing arm of a medium sized third party developer?

Don't really like the oddly proportioned female models, though. Granado Espada had similar "busty" female models but the GE ones look a lot better.

Apparently the character classes are "large muscular male, underdressed" and "tiny pneumatic female, underdressed".

Tell me that you're joking. You just forgot the green. I mean, that has got to be a mistranslation. No way a game developer could say such a thing.

Although, it might explain a thing or two...

Didn't really see anything different from current MMOs there. So a character performs half a dozen of kicks when i use the skill instead of half dozen sword swings... same old shit with floating damage numbers.

Oh and that's hardly gameplay video with the UI permanently off, the camera permanently spinning around and the whole thing being nothing but mix of cutscenes and fight sequences (edited for extra pace feel). With this approach one could make even LotRO trailer look all shiny.

Which is why LotRO, WoW, AoC, and (for example) WAR ought to do gameplay videos this way. (http://forums.f13.net/index.php?topic=13789.msg479425#msg479425) The point of a gameplay video isn't to accurately reflect what the screen looks like while you play... it's to show you how, ideally, you should feel while playing. When you're in the groove you forget the UI, ignore the stupid mechanics, and feel like the badass your character can be.

Like several other people here, the art turns me off and I imagine it'll be a grindfest without fun quests or much character customization... but in terms of making something that seems to play like a fighting game? Yeah, I think they did that. I also like the dynamics of the fights with large monsters... seems there's a lot of running around involved, which always felt more epic to me than tanking the big guy next to wall.

Sure, as long as the clunky UI and the stupid mechanics don't prevent you from getting in that groove in the first place. And that is rather hard to tell when both are conveniently hidden from you.

Heck, with this approach they could've made that trailed just full of tits and panning panty shots. That'd put lot of people in the groove too, and would tell as much about the actual game.

edit: point being, if even the alleged snoozefest like LotRO could be made look all slick and epic using approach from that 'gameplay' trailer ... then at the moment there's no way to tell if actual gameplay of this new product isn't equally grindy snoozefest. And so i'd rather refrain from getting excited about it based on this footage alone.

Final Fantasy XI is console-oriented game, too... now granted, FF is its own kettle of fish, just... a point of sorts it doesn't have to amount to much, i guess.

Sure sure... it's not an honest picture of the game. It's a lie... but it shows the potential of the game, rather than showing the potential of the animation, modeling, and production team in a movie-style trailer. That's what a gameply video should do, and this video does it well. Even at its most exciting, LotRO would never look this good. The action animations aren't so fluid as these, nor are the responses to hits or the "spellcasting". Instead LotRO "gaemplay" videos would probably concentrate on scenery and cinematic moments from the storyline quests... things the game does well.

And schild... don't forget Phantasy Star Online either. Console gameplay can be different from PC gameplay, but the grind? I imagine it will be exactly the same. It defines the MMOG genre.

While the game looks fantastic, I wonder how much "cheating" they are doing with the art. A lot of the area's seem extremely flat, and the buildings seem to be 'fake', like how GuildWars does them (might as well be boulders for all the interacting you can do with them).

It's the style that's different -- e.g. the models react when hit, there's a push back effect, the animations have that "sharp and fast" feel to them. It's like watching somebody play Soul Caliber but with more freeform movement.

PXIB PREDICTS:

In the beginning you will choose male or female who have the choice of three hairstyles and three hair colors apiece. All characters have a basic set of attacks, some sword based and some unarmed. I imagine you get these over the first several levels, perhaps the first week or so of gameplay. At that point you will choose a class and have the opportunity to start into one of the four or five specialties displayed in the video.

Each of these have a few impressive moves that fit into categories.
- Hit somebody multiple times, knocking them back.
- Throw them.
- Abuse them while they're on the ground.
- Big windup attack.
- Fast attack.

You will learn these in some ridiculously slow and tedious way... not picking up the really cool looking moves until you've been in grinding groups for upwards of three months.  It will also involve obscure, poorly clued quests in a vast but largely empty world. Much time will be spent running through crowds of monsters you don't want to fight. in 90% of all situations there will be two ideal moves you use over and over again, only using the other ones when you're bored and want to look cool... but they'll occasionally get you killed.

This will make you lose as much experience as you'd gained in tedious fighting for the past three hours.

If you check it closely, there seems to be little of actual reaction to hits beyond few canned abilities that involve knock-back and apply animations to both characters. Regular hits don't invoke more from the target but girlish scream and a few particle effects. It is certainly nice, but nothing that wasn't already done in more elaborate fashion in say, Matrix Online. And yes, things are snappy and sharp looking but that's heavily edited trailer with cuts and camera work adding lot to the pace -- there isn't single shot of gameplay there that lasts more than couple of seconds, and pretty much each has a 'special' event in the focus (be it the mob death or character skill used) Suspect it makes things appear much more exciting than they actually are.

For example, this is what similar "sharp and fast" style atually looks like in the MMO, once you strip it out of some of the trailer magic: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zY75uSyATyg
and then when you actually play it, it turn into this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9vulcrzDmB8

Btw, the official game page ( http://games.plaync.co.kr/bladeandsoul/ ) seems to have the trailer available in full resolution as download, and some screenshots. Screenshots give me that horrible feel that i used to get from the amateur Poser renders. On the plus side though, they seem to have replaced idea of titillating panty shots with half of said panties permanently on display  :awesome_for_real:

Having played MxO for "too long", all of its notable animations were related to interlock (meaning: you're stuck in a death dance with another person while everyone else lobs spells and/or bullets at you).  The non-interlock ones were no more notable than the GE video you linked or some of the newer abilities in Wrath of the Lich King.

It's a trailer, I'm sure that it's not going to look "as good" all the time during gameplay, but the fact that there's something there to work "trailer magic" shouldn't be overlooked.

That said, I'm predisposed to liking this game's visuals.  I've always liked Hyung-Tae Kim's character designs when they didn't involve massive breasts.  To be honest, I'm not sure what's going on with the male models in that video as they're quite asstastic.

Absolutely; and i don't expect much more than that from this game. That is, if the animation sync is going to be good, i expect it to come with a catch (like MxO interlock, or it being limited to 1v1 'boss battles' like that one encounter featured in the trailer with 3-4 different characters) If there's no catch to such effect, then the actual in-game behaviour is likely to be more akin to what can be seen in that GE video i.e. simple knock-back effects and generic "reactions" to hits.

I've seen plenty of this guy's art....while it's not technically poor....I cannot stand it; all the shirts with "headlights", upskirt shots, ultra-tight revealing underwear, etc etc

It's just too damn much. Also, he draws a lot of his females with extremely large hips. Not "Ooo, nice curvy hips" but Mutant Hips.

So, basically, FFXI

I think the only jumping I saw were part of attacks.  I hate to admit it, but if I can't jump in the MMO, I can't play it long.  Having to walk 50 yards to get around a foot tall hedge/fence annoys me to no end.

It's up to NCSoft to not be morons and alleviate the grind for America.
I seriously doubt they've gotten any better since Lineage II, tbh  :uhrr:
According to what's been said about Aion, they're at least willing to try a WoW-style levelling curve.

Yea, finally an MMORPG with an arcade fighting game-style combat look to it.

Your assuming the UI is like other MMO's. Have you played games like uncharted?

No, i'm presuming there is some sort of UI that we're shown none off. Even Uncharted has some UI elements on screen every now and then for feedback, and it's not MMO with their whole baggage of character stats, inventory, ongoing quests, equipment, abilities, info on other members of the group you're in etc or even the most obvious -- chat channels. And i'd be certainly more willing to believe there's some sort of "revolutionary invisible UI" in that game if they managed to move past the "floating damage numbers on each hit" paradigm, first. But since they didn't... welp.

Hmmmm.

Interview: http://bnsfacts.wordpress.com/2008/08/03/this-is-game-interview-47-qa-part-1/
and
Part 2: http://bnsfacts.wordpress.com/2008/08/04/this-is-game-interview-47-qa-part-2/

Quote
Q15: Is there an ending to to the storyline?
Bae: Yes.

Quote
Q16: Is the trailer video made out of in-game footage?
Bae: Yes. The only editing done to the video is the slow-motion effect during mid-air-dash and the removal of version stamp. Of course, for demonstration purposes, some characters were standing still not fighting back. Besides those, the video is a 100% compilation of in-game footages.
Kim: Currently, developers are playing pre-alpha version of the game. The trailer you saw today was a footage of their actual in-game play.

Quote
Q18: I am curious whether the world is seamless or instanced.
Bae: It is not seamless, but it uses streaming method. Gamers will experience the same gameplay as if they were in a seamless world.
Kim: There won’t be much loading because the maps are huge.

Quote
Q27: Do characters’ body parts take different damage?
Bae: No. However, the attack angle matters.  The damage will depend on from which position you are attacking the opponent.

Quote
Q34: What type of quests are in Blade & Soul?
Bae: Goals and scenario make up the quests. Many MMORPGs have “vending-machine” quests: “kill X number of mobs.” This is boring. Blade & Soul will resolve the problem of “I want to follow the story line, but why am I talking to this vending machine.” I want the game to overcome that limitation. It’s one of the topics of discussion within the team.

Quote
Q47: When will be the release?
Bae: (smile) I really don’t know. I hope we don’t this year [closed beta]. We developed for about two years and 50% is complete. I don’t know what the developers think.
Kim: I think only 20% is done. (smile) end of the interview

Quote
Q46: There is a rumor that Blade & Soul is NCsoft’s PS3 MMO?
Bae: There’s nothing specific about the plan.  We only have 60 developers which is just enough to make the PC version.  I would like to [make a PS3 version], but some things can’t be done.  We are discussing with other platform companies as well.

This last one is pretty much debunked as several places have printed it is the PS3 one, including here, though I only did after others outted them.

Aside from the attack chain where the guy seemed to run around hitting several enemies once each, most of that stuff wasn't that different from what I've seen in Age of Conan, with added movement skills from CoX.  It's Age of Wuxia.  Especially with those later quotes about attack angle mattering.

Honestly, if you were going to clone someone's combat system, I'd have pointed to AoC, I love combat in that game.  Also, I can't wait to see some group of 4-6 people using that flower summoning effect over, and over, and over, and over, in the major city auction house/bank area.  That'll be greaaat.

Although it's a bit too anime for my tastes, it's totally super pretty with loltweaker animations, and I'll play it anyways (at least in beta or whatever).

I dunno - I just could never see myself playing a game like this as my 'main' MMO - it would have to be really different then KMMO trash, although my hopes aren't that high. I have faith that they can change it up enough to make it interesting, but not THAT much.

Speaking of Aion - my only memory of that game was at E3 a few years back, and I was on a beach fighting crabs or something, and some other person from another faction was there killing crabs, and it was some guy sitting in a chair left to me - I killed him like 4 times in a row because he was terrible. Then he got up and left. I hope he wrote a bad review.

Aion just sent out some PR. As per usual, the screenshots, which were composed, were terrible. I'm not sure designer, programmers, or PR people are fit to take ingame screenshots. Perhaps it's best left to the artists? Or players? Eh, anyway, the PR had the 4 classes in it. Scout, Mage, Priest, Warrior. Seriously.

No, it very much looks like WoW. Every high fantasy game looks similar, but I find this to be extremely close. The use of foliage, atmospherics and lighting seems very similar. Most of all perhaps the used colour range. The top one looks like Feralas in detail.

It's a compliment, though.

Title: Re: Blade & Soul In-Engine Footage (PS3/PC NCSoft MMOG) CLICK HERE.
Post by: ajax34i on August 05, 2008, 12:38:29 PM
The first one looks like Feralas, not just the coloring, but also the "brick road under thick tree branch with things dangling from it" theme.

Third one is definitely colored much the same as Orgrimmar / Durotar, and has the same theme of wooden spikes pointing upward and dried up vegetation.  Second one looks similar, but has the more muted tones of that Horde outpost in Steamwhatever Mountains.

Number 4 is reminiscent of Crossroads / Ratchet / the lift to Thousand Needles.

And 5, I'd say Feralas again, on the island where the NE's have established that outpost of theirs.

Looking at Aion release schedule right above, the "launch" most likely refers just to Korean market. The delay with Aion release in US/Europe is due to time they intend to spend on localization and such, if i remember right. There's supposedly lot of writing that need to be converted, and they don't want another Lineage 2.

edit: besides, that field 'right after' Q4 of 2009 includes whole 2010; it might as well launch in Q4 of it

The emotionless face isn't that bad; sort of fits for a Blade Master; assuming they were going for that look and not just completely lacking in emotion for ALL races..

I'm kind of interested in the Destroyer, personally. I just hope all of the males don't look like androgynous bishonen.
(Outside of the large/Barbarian looking race, at least.)

Either way, it IS pretty, and the spell effects are awesome. Its probably just as grindy as Aion, sadly.

By my standards? Those where pixelalted just above really skinny. Size zero waste ain't special just looks really weird in comparison to thighs.

How is the panty based content? I'm burnt out on WoW again and thought it would be nice to play a game with really great graphics coupled with hot women in lingerie. Is it like other Korean games where everyone looks pretty much the same, or are you able to wear a variety of panties and tiny boob slings depending on your mood?

As far as game play I don't really care outside of it affecting my ability to buy/acquire/unlock new and different underwear.

At the rate that NCSoft is improving their DAT ASS technology, I expect to see an adults only expansion to one of their games that makes everyone naked and lets you cyber with NPC like an Illusion game or something. It will break all MMO records.
Graphics like this plus NOT SAFE FOR WORK (http://www.3d-sexgames.com)'s interface/whatever plus this way overengineered NOT SAFE FOR WORK (http://www.realtouch.com/dispatcher/home) would add whole entire new levels to guild drama, as well as creating a lot more shut-ins..The internal automatic lube dispenser is a nice touch I thought. I hope the baby oil the toons in the first pic used is a common drop. When I want my toon to have smooth, glistening tits I better not have to go grind some rare, elite mob to make it happen. Also, NCSoft just needs to stop pretending what they're about. They need to just make the clothing entirely removable and get it over with.

Yeah I'd probably give this game a go. If only to check 3D models that look better than FFXI or maybe even FFXIV could pull off.

Though FFXIV will probably have several degrees fewer of sex appeal, but making combat look sexy (while also being good mechanics-wise) is something that could probably garner a lot of subscriptions.

I have a feeling the combat system will have the same issues the matrix did. We have only ever seen one on one battles. They could design this to be not an issue (and by that I mean the rest of the game), but yeah.. I dunno. Not enough info.

Gamasutra did an interview with Hyung-Tae Kim. Though not strictly Blade & Soul related, still well worth the read for anyone interested in the game's art direction:
 http://www.gamasutra.com/view/feature/4310/the_art_of_the_form_hyungtae_kim_.php

Interesting to note that given Blade & Soul's vast production scope, Kim had to give up his OCD of designing every single character model by himself. He did give his art team a reference 3D model though, presumably to prevent undue realism when it comes to female proportions.  :awesome_for_real:

HTK: In other words, it's the natural identification of what we really like since birth, before cultural context. I try to exaggerate all those aspects and then tie it to some of the more complex or deeper emotions, and then just draw something that people will really like innately.

To put it simply, you have to first look at how the body is actually connected. Of course, the chest and hips sort of stand out a lot because they're, you know, the biggest parts I guess. But the most important part of the character is actually fat. Any character we create is composed of bones, muscles, and of course fat.

Despite the beauty of bones and muscles, those aspects tend to not be particularly feminine, and lend themselves to something more male. But if you focus more on the fat of a character, and then you sort of create a flow into the chest and the hips and form the body around it, how force and physics can change a body, including fat, it becomes more beautiful for people who can appreciate that innate nature. In books that explain the body, there aren't that many explanations of fat, so it's really hard to find this kind of information actually.
He keeps using that word. I don't think it means what he thinks it means.

For all the lulz we're getting about the man's assets in this game, I can appreciate where he's coming from with this. Gettin real tired of brown in just about every modern game these days.

If it remains similarly Korean, at top level you only have six or seven abilities. Often they are designed to form interesting synergies and combos rather than to be situationally specific alone. It also looks like some skills here differ based on how they're used: The mage's melee-range blast was also her AOE, but it divided the same amount of total damage among all the mobs it hit. A very effective single-target nuke, and a somewhat less effective PBAoE. The frozen dragon she was casting at the end of the video may just have been a variation of the basic frost nuke... perhaps requiring that the player not have a target, or charge the cast, or whatever.

According to some of NCSoft's research revealed during their legal wrangle with Bluehole over TERA, the key to capturing Japanese market is having cute playable characters/classes. If that's not April's Fools video then would guess they're just trying to one-up the other Lineage clone, hard.

I don't even think they have started the NA version yet its also still missing 2 classes from the roster in Korea. Its a lot prettier than even Tera and you get to ninja glide/fly and double/triple jump. But I think the combat will actually feel like a step backward though I can't be sure. It has been out in Korea since mid 2012 but nobody has even announced the localization partnership for the NA version or the Chinese or Japanese versions.

Personally I really want to create some characters (the creator is insane you get everything you got in Tera, with imo even better base art plus like 80 sliders) and mess around in it but I'm sure it has all of the same weaknesses Tera does in terms of zone/mob quality and the combat may in reality feel more targeted and less tactical.

From what I've heard though it's doing great in South Korea. Meaning, people like it a lot. Also, localization partnership? I think NC is taking care of the whole thing internally (http://us.bladeandsoul.com/uk/news/meet_the_team.php), while at the same time probably waiting for more content to be out in .kr so they can release a full-fleshed product, as opposed to what is pretty popular in Asia with releasing MMOs in an official "Prelude/Prologue" state.

The combat in this game is enjoyable, which is the biggest selling point for me. Also, the PvP seems to be focused on 1v1 and 3v3 arenas, which works for me and my friends but didn't really in the Russian version. Not a masterpiece, but for what it's worth it it is still the second most played game overall (not just MMO) in South Korea so if anything there's a lot of new stuff coming over time. I predict I'll play it for 4 to 6 weeks. Good enough for that.

I played on the Japanese server - it's up to date, free, fairly easy to get on to and has an English patch. (I lasted about an hour).

If anything, this game is "Collect-all-the-outfits Online" and because of that I am SO gonna play it. It doesn't hurt that it has the best combat in any MMORPG since TERA, and an ongoing 1v1 PvP ladder competition, so it just won my infamous Two-months Attention Span Award. What sucks is how ridiculously hypersexualized everything is, but I have (sadly) become almost immune to the Japanese and Korean version of this crap.

PvP is mostly in 1v1 arena. There is an open PvP area but even though I haven't tried it yet I know better these days than hope it will ever work for interesting fights. Either your game has been somewhat built from the ground up for open PvP (ie: everywhere), or a PvP zone is NEVER going to be fun to play no matter if you are the winner or the loser, because it is either empty or full with nothing but zergs.

I'd say flashy/decent combat, outfit collection and sex.

There isn't pvp. There is a 1v1 arena but don't count on it taking off the way it has in korea because there is almost no chance imo that will happen.

Combat is really good when not laggy. You can say it is decent, but there's always the issue of trying to name a MMORPG that has a better one that isn't TERA.

About PvP, I forgot that there's also 3v3. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MZJV9JeGxes&feature=em-uploademail)

I would say the combat is slightly better than TERA because the combo interaction is superior in design. Black Desert, I think, is better but that opinion is based off of watching it on twitch rather than playing it.

The combo system is kind of interesting though poorly explained/documented in the UI. The game world also seems to be in constant battle with some of the flashy combos where push backs/knock downs/knock ups/etc. can all suffer from things in the world (mobs will get stuck, flicker, etc.).

I also don't like how it's hard to tell if you are hitting things or things are hitting you. And dodging is hit or miss as some attacks seem to auto-target/auto-hit.

The game also feels very herky-jerky compared to TERA. E.g. moving into private instances has an annoying pause. Even dashing feels awkward.

I didn't have the problem about noticing when I was being hit, but on everything else I agree with you. Still, when there's no lag at all, the combat brings me JOY. Grabs and throws are what was missing from my MMO combat, I just can't get enough of slamming enemies on the ground with my Destroyer, or using them to beat other enemies, or to give people the Zangief treatment.

I wish I had more time this weekend to play, but I really like the few classes I got to level 6ish. I really wanted to try out a summoner.

I really liked how you only need a handful of buttons to press and they change based on stance/status of enemy. Pretty well done.

OK, Im here. I like this but I also like Tera. While b&s is , Well it isn't tab targeting the game figures out what your trying to target. and you'll hit it if your pointing in more or less the right direction (ranged). It isn't Tera but its Tera like. I'm at lvl 11-12 with all classes except summonier and blade dancer. (I dont do lollies, thats just how I roll). This really is collect the outfits and there really is a fetish theme. I'm guessing Black Desert is gonna be a better game as b&s is highly instanced and BD is not  But I can play this now and I prefir it to Tera. And its pay to win, check out the dimonds and safires in the cash shop. A large increse in attack power and a nice heal on crit (and these are cheep). So well see how it pans out at the first of the year as B&s and BD are gonna f2p launch then. Just my opinion after playing sence thursday.

4% chance he's Broughden.

I'm verymuch looking forward to playing this but mainly because of the sex and the outfits.

I'm also going to try to go back to Tera once the Fist class is added to NA Tera. Two new classes should be enough to entice some people to re-roll/try again. The loli reaper obviously doesn't count.

Updated and ready to go. Very happy about the European server as the previous beta was afflicted for me by a veeery tiny bit of lag (like 1/10th of a second) that made the bashing experience slightly less fun. In what plays like a beat 'em up no amount of input lag is acceptable, although this makes me think that combat is server-side instead of client-side which is good news when it comes to anti-cheating. And also would explain why PvP is mostly a 1v1 thing even in arenas.

Needless to say, I've enjoyed the PvP. Not only the 1v1 arena, but also the "open world" PvP. It happens on a voluntary basis, basically you flip the switch on by wearing a faction uniform which flags you as attackable by members of the other faction, so it is totally up to the player. If you are being ganked, just remove the uniform and you are a safe carebear again. As I said before, I can see how and why this system will TOTALLY fail to produce any kind of interesting PvP after launch, but with the usual beta chaos and carelessness it is providing some genuine good times.

um.. its fetish. Its collect the costumes. Ive played most chars to lvl 12. Its not hard. Be careful l of your pulls, you'll be fine. Is it more fetish than tera?  Is tera more fun? Tera wants to force you into (BAM) big  ass monsters witch is fine for some classes but not so much for others. But it can be avoided if you try. I don't know I'm thinking I'll play out the rest of this second test  and maybe make a decision? Which modells look better prolly bas. Which outfits look better prolly tera. Note you cant buy the outfit I'm refiring to now. You could in the past and you could recently but you cant now.  And you havent been able to buy the deep blue v for years and its cost in the auction house is huge. I don't get the sense that bas offers more than I've seen .

Servers went up as of 1PM EST and will be up till the 30ith. Again the game is very fetisch y if thats want you want (much as TERA). And I gotta say I'm not sure what you see here if the fetich thing isnt doing it for you. But its not diffulict and open world pvp is handeled well, wear your faction clothes and be ganked or gank, dont wear them and don't worry. So what are my thoughts about this and black desert? BaS is very instanced. Theres very little to discover. Black desert is an open world (I have no exp here, Just what ive read). But BaS is way more popular in Korea than BD and the combat in BaS is fun, the combos are fun. I'll play Black Dessert when it goes F@P but I payed real money to play BaS in beta and I don't regret it. Again I have no exp with Black Desert other than youtube vids I've wacthed.

I've been playing the past 2 days and I'm really enjoying it so far.  I went with the destroyer class.  It's very satisfying bashing people with a huge axe then picking them up off the ground and punching their face in with your fist.  I was sold when I was able to pick a bear up and smash it into the ground.  The combat in this is by far the best I've experienced in an MMO, even better than TERA where I was able to get several classes to level cap.  When it opens up to everyone on 19 Jan, I highly recommend at least giving it a go.

Having my monyh of fun. Its real problem is a weakness in group play. The fact that PvP is pretty much thought to be a 1v1 affair shows that this could be summed up as Soul Calibur/Tekken MMO with some theme park strapped around it. But that's hardly a bad thing. Short lived maybe, but definitely enjoyable.

Especially if you are into clothing and fashion.  :awesome_for_real:

Yes, this seems to be what happens now with popular new MMORPGs that have a free2play vs Premium sub model at launch. Same happened with Archeage last year. So basically, it's 1000+ queue as a f2p player, or insta-join if you are paying the monthly fee.

I know, I was there. The relatively new thing are the queues of games that are F2P on launch day, that don't have too many servers because they know too well how bad population will shrink in a few weeks, and that have this sharp separation between paying and non-paying players. So even going to a new empty server doesn't help much, they are all pretty packed from what I've heard.

(I suspect the queue is capped at 5k, seeing how it doesn't grow past that point)
Still better than the 2k cap they had for aion launch. Ncshit west still don't know how to add enough servers for launch day and adding more now won't really fix this problem, it will only create more dead servers that have to be merged within 3 months.

They had plenty of servers, just everyone played on the most popular. Also premium membership had a long queue too.

Shit was retarded.

Ok I bought the top founders pack. I'm seeing 4 min ques. Again I cant say it enough this game is easy. Be careful l of your pulls and you will never need a health pot . Aigin its a very instanced game. Thers just not a lot here if the graphics don't grab you. I enjoy it but I see it as it is.I look forward to trying black desert when it launches but I gotta say the buzz is not good with this one.

The combat in this is by far the best I've experienced in an MMO, even better than TERA where I was able to get several classes to level cap.
I don't agree that Blade & Soul has better combat than TERA, though it's not helping that I'm playing a Kung-Fu Master. One big problem I have with it is it can't make up its mind whether or not attacks should be dodgeable and dodging and blocking are much more difficult in this game (again not helped by playing Kung-Fu Master).

That's one thing that TERA did better than any other game: dodging attacks. That alone might put it above this one. Granted, they are both amazing, and Blade & Soul at higher levels shines due to the whole moves and countermoves system, but the simple ability to dodge everything in TERA just based on your footwork (well, fingerwork) was incredibly rewarding. Instead, in a game with a combat this good, it feels cheap and out of place to see damage applied to you two seconds after you moved well away from the long winded mob attack animation.

Yeah the combo and dodge/block counter systems are interesting -- it gives it a fighting game feel. However the UI makes things more difficult than it should be by not showing you the cool downs of the "contextual moves" hiding behind the regular move keys. There are other things that really annoy me like the slow out-of-combat health regen but I'm still giving it a go since It still feels like I'm playing Akira in Virta Fighter 2-lite.

I hit level cap (45) on a Destroyer the other day. This game hooked me in a way Tera never did, so there's that I guess. The rate at which they push out the rest of the content to level 50 will be key, but I am enjoying the costume hunt and the structured arena PvP so far.

How does the structured PvP compare to Warhammer's 1st arena?

I thought there was 3v3, too?  I've only done the 1v1 so far and did better than I thought I would going 4-2 so far with 4 wins in a row.

3v3 is really cool, but it's actually 1v1 WWF style. Meaning, it's a tag team wrestling match. 1v1, where the other party members can join in for 5 seconds combos (like in Marvel vs Capcom) on a cooldown, and then have their own 1v1 match when the first one ends. Team with most round wins gets the match. So, 3v3 is basically (1v1)x3.

The first big patch is scheduled for 10 Feb.  It includes some new dungeons, pvp pre-season and 5 Hongmoon levels.  The Hongmoon levels will give you 5 more skill points to use but the level cap will still be 45 for now.  No Warlock, though. :heartbreak:  That's coming in a future patch.  They seem pretty serious about catching NA/EU players up to speed with the Asian versions as quick as possible.

Well, I gotta say the gold spam is making this game unplayable the last 2 days. You gotta run a lvl 20 dungeon a lotta times to upgrade your weapon (witch is a large part of what this games about). And other things but weapon is the biggie. And the gold spam is so aggressive that you have no hope of joining a group. So well see. Ncsoft is not known for a lot of activity. Ill log in daily but if theres not a lot of change then the gold spammers killed this game. Ive been playing Tera actually.

Gold spam? Just turn off the faction and LFG chat. To get a group, go to the party finder interface, click on the dungeon you like and join open groups from there. So super easy. Not really sure what you are talking about. Gold spammers were annoying until I turned off the two chats they invaded. After that, I forgot they existed.

Spammers can spam the cross-server dungeon party finder channel. However you can still block them there so it's not a huge deal.

There is no reason to ever have to use the actual chat channels in the cross-server dungeon finder. Everything in it is completely automated if you hit a button.

There's a level restriction to the chat channels in Tera.  I don't think there is one in Blade and Soul.

Also Tera has an official in-game way to convert real money into in-game currency. That cuts down a lot on the need to go to a 3rd party for currency.

Ive been playing Tera now a few days and its just more fun. The cock block at 20 in b&s is no joy. Been leveling an gunner and a thrasher in Tera and its smooth sailing. I know I was a fan boy for B&S but that's how I see it.

They've been getting the gold spam under control in the past couple of days in BnS, though yesterday perhaps went one step too far and in the process apparently killed everyone's ability to say anything except in local. No clue if that's intended  :why_so_serious:

For joining groups I find the spam to be non-issue: you either use the pillar outside dungeon, which will show you all groups on your server looking for members for this specific dungeon, updates automatically and only requires you to click 'join' button to send the request to join, or you hit the cross-server lookup which moves you to a room where you hit "looking for party" button and it will put you automatically in a group looking for members for selected dungeon. You literally never need to read the advertisement in the grouping channel, ever.

That said yeah, Tera team was considerably more effective at keeping the gold spam to minimum, even at launch.

It doesn't help that gold is very valuable and extremely hard to come by for much of the game, which just adds fuel to the spammers' fire.

Yes, after getting through the extended tutorial and hitting level 20 on my Kung-Fu Master I had enough money at that point buy 1 dumpling, which is the cheapest NPC vendor food item in the game.

Well, to be fair, you start to acquire food and potions at much faster rate around 20+.  I have about 200 of each in my inventory at 43, and I haven't been stingy with their use.  You start to acquire money faster in your mid 30's (I had 12-13g recently until I spent some on the AH) but I agree until then it's hard to earn esp. if you are f2p because money doesn't drop from mobs if you don't have premium status. :oh_i_see:

The NPC prices in the game are pretty dumb in general (and it doesn't help the mobs apparently won't drop any money if you are non-premium player :ye_gods:)  but if you take cooking as profession it costs something like 5 copper per dumpling, so there's that.

While at it, having large part of game economy hinge on low rate drop (viridian poisons which have chance to drop from one l.15 instance boss and are used to craft component used in all sort of shit, from keys to unsealing charms) is nothing short of hilarious.

I have to wonder what they were thinking when they put the instadeath fire fields in the dungeons, that pop up when boss encounter is started, a short distance in front of said encounter. I mean, I can sort-of see they are supposed to prevent corpse runs and getting the fights won this way, but #1 just regular, not killing barrier would do this task just as well and #2 because 90% of people in dungeons are idiots who couldn't pay attention to the map if their fucking life depended on it, literally 10 times out of 10 this results in some moron rushing in and killing half the team trailing behind in the process with these fires, then taking forever to kill the boss with 1-2 people actually in the room, or dying after like 5 mins of wasting everyone's time. :uhrr:
