Title: Because Sony Hates us

Sony is developing a Venom movie. (http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=47458)

Sony is moving forward with Venom, a potential "Spider-Man" spinoff, says The Hollywood Reporter.

The trade says the studio is developing the project, based on the villain who appeared in Spider-Man 3 and is hoping the character could serve as an antidote to the aging "Spider-Man" franchise in the way that Fox has used Wolverine to add longevity to its "X-Men" franchise.

The studio had commissioned a draft of the script from Jacob Estes (Mean Creek), but the studio is considering going in a different direction from Estes' script and is seeking writers for a new draft.

Casting also is no simple matter. Topher Grace played the character in the film, but agents have been eyeing the role for their clients, as Sony is not yet convinced the actor can carry a tentpole picture.

The Hollywood Reporter adds that neither Sony nor Marvel would comment for the story.

Sony is also still developing a fourth "Spider-Man" film for 2011.

Obviously the new Venom Movie should be a sequel to In Good Company.

Maybe I should see about getting the scriptwriting job for this movie. Fuck, I can't do any worse than they did with Spider-Man 3.

Venom will be thwarted by the Hero "PS3" with his "Blue Ray".

I wonder if this will be the "hero" type Venom.  Otherwise the only real story I see them doing is with Carnage.

A comic supervillain movie? Is that a first? It's a poor choice still.  :ye_gods:

Agreed, I'd rather they get that damn Deadpool movie going.  At least Ryan Reynolds is playing him in the new Wolvie movie.

There are quite a few anti-hero movies out there based on comics - "Danger: Diabolique", "Hulk", "Spawn" etc. Outright villains though? I can't think of any right now.

Sony wouldn't make Venom an outright villain though - he'd be the Lethal Protector version.

More likely he'll join the ranks of bad guys who were watered down to become anti-heroes and who later got shitty movies, like Punisher, Catwoman, and Elektra.

Didn't venom (the symbiote) get blown up? Preventing future use of Venom was Spiderman 3's one redeeming feature.

... and Elektra died in "Daredevil", but we still got "Elektra".

Read the Recent Ultimate Spider Man.

Venom is back despite blowing up in the previous issue.

As Fury said 'Kid, did you see a body ?  Was there a body ?  Because if there wasn't a body, you didn't kill him.'

Sigh

Wank wank wank wank wank

It's a little different with Elektra though, isn't like part of her schtick that she dies a bunch and keeps coming back?

She's died a number of times. Currently I think it's been determined her latest version is a Skrull.

Venom has 'died' too, only for it to be revealed he somehow survived. It's comics - everyone stays dead except for Bucky. Then Bucky came back as the Winter Soldier.

Actually, it's, "everyone stays dead except for Bucky AND Uncle Ben."

They've brought back Uncle Ben too.

Actually, that should have been "nobody stays dead".  :uhrr:
