Title: Team Fortress 2 Unstationary Scrimmage: Sunday, 8PM EST
Post by: schild on October 26, 2007, 12:00:48 PM
Slayerik, that oafy soldier, decided to challenge us with his fake clan to a scrimmage. Us, being a bunch of respectable fake clan members, led by fearless spies and pyros and giant easy buttons, will accept this challenge because we were probably going to be playing anyway.

Information:
Date and Time: Sunday, October 28th, 8PM EST
Place: F13.NET's IVORY TOWER SERVER
Password: f13scrim
Players: 10 per side

If you are not on the list, please don't even join to spectate until the game starts. Thanks.

Players:
Nerf
Phildo
Ookii
Schild
WayAbvPar
Megrim
Fabricated
Bhodi
Rattran
Strazos

Subs:
Falwell
Caladein
Gimpyone
Soln

In that order.

The Other team, led by either candy or washed out white rappers:
Slayerik

Also, in a friendly exchange, I called Freshfruit and Slayerik claimed MkVenner. We don't even know if they'll play with us.

Finally, if you can't make it, just tell me by Saturday. I'm sure I can find... replacements

On a serious note, any thoughts for rules or maps we want to hit?

I would like to see one match "Highlander" Style, 1 of each type full time. If there are 10 guys then the 1 extra can do whateva or we make that match 9 on 9

Gravelpit, dustbowl, well ? 2fort?(not my favorite but im willing to discuss)

Well and 2fort both suck (and Granary and Hydro) for competitive play because of the fucking tie rules. If you want to play them you'll need to come up with some rules on how to handle stalemates.

Title: Re: Team Fortress 2 Unstationary Scrimmage: Sunday, 8PM EST
Post by: schild on October 26, 2007, 04:23:54 PM
I know how to handle stalemates. 5 games, no time limit, when one team hits 3, we manually change the map.

Title: Re: Team Fortress 2 Unstationary Scrimmage: Sunday, 8PM EST
Post by: Trippy on October 26, 2007, 04:35:30 PM
No timelimit means you guys could be playing well into Monday if the two sides are nearly evenly matched.

No, if both sides get fed up, there are people with admin powers. Calling it a wash between evenly matched teams seems more than reasonable.

Too bad we're going to stomp their balls into their necks.

Post by: Samwise on October 26, 2007, 04:42:42 PM
If you have two evenly matched and reasonably coordinated teams with one going all defense and one going all offense, the offensive team WILL push through and score a capture.  Eternal stalemates are the result of neither side being willing to commit to an attack, not the result of both sides being evenly matched.

The reason you get eternal stalemates in pub games is that offense requires a slightly higher level of coordination -- you need to make sure you all attack at the same time for best effect, whereas the defenders get that for free by virtue of all being in the same place.  It's not a terribly high bar, but it is beyond the average pubtard and therefore it generally only happens by luck in pub games.  I don't see it being as much of a problem here.

If you guys play Highlander-style it's going to be hard to crack a tough D, even with a coordinated O, because of the dearth of ubers.

Also now that I think about it Gravepit and Dustbowl suck as well for competitive play because of the scoring system. You are still goiing to need to make rules for how to handle point ties.

Funny part is, I didn't get to play a ton of soldier...I was kinda just filling roles most the match...The last game we were stressing pretty heavy, finally we made some progress and I just started hurling rockets at the point and matrix dodging the return fire.

That shit was a lot of fun. Thanks to all who participated, I have a feeling this could be a weekly thing. Props to Ookii for running it and turning me into fresh gibs repeatedly.

Mkvenner was still a ringer for you guys, that guy is pretty sick. Fagglerock gives him a match for spy pretty well though.

Lemme know how your emergency room trip was for the crit ass rocket removal, schild.

Straz, you dome pieced me a few times on DB. Can't win em all!

Morituri Nolumus Mori ... stands for 'those about to die dont want to ' or some shit in latin ... MnM is basically a conglomeration of MMO players, some from back as far as Shadowbane, that I have kept gaming with or in touch with over the years. Our most recent MMO was WoW but most have burnt on that. Previous to that was SWG, Planetside, etc.

I remember that time you gusy were talking about with the medic and the rocket man. You guys were ubered and I'm like, well shit I'm done for. The soldier kept spammin rockets off the ledge. I was an engi and got a shotgun blast or 2 on the medic and helped with schild before I went down. I think he was so used to engi's being up there, friendly ones, that it didnt produce the usual rocket to the dome effect.

After the granary pyro rush you guys pulled off (nicely done) I dont wanna hear about our 1-2 pyros we had the whole match :) Both sides seemed to have about the same class make up most the time. Lots of soldiers.  I thought you guys were better about having medics around, we usually only had one...There were also certain parts of dustbowl and gravelpit (damn B skylight rockets / pipes) where you guys really seemed to have your shit together, but once you lost the initial point the D crumbled.

There are a couple F13 guys who have almost uncanny aim with the soldier rockets.  I whimper whenever Nerf comes on,  since he seems to have the "seek Johny Cee's head" rockets.

When playing medic I quickly learnt to latch onto Nerf whenever he passed by and practically ignore everyone else, as he was the only one on with the unnatural ability to kill everything that moved. So keeping him alive seemed preferable to uber wasting heavies (on the rare occasion when I trigger an uber at the right time).  :-P

I still need to learn to value my life a bit more, however.

I have no value on my characters life unless I'm an engineer or playing a demo and mine guarding a capture point.  Other then that I play with reckless abandon... probably too much really especially on Sudden Death.   Really that round is so unappealing to me I just want to end it as soon as possible.

You both would've been crying last night, Schild outscored me ffs.  Next time I need to make sure I dont drink as much, or more, either way, i'll figure it out, we will have our revenge!

Note to medics, if you haven't figured it out yet: don't waste your time on [f13] Sky. Sure, I'm a demoman. But I'm a solo rambo that will get your as killed. Or I'll turtle around doing nothing. Basically, whatever you want me to be doing, I'll be doing the opposite. Can't help it, really, I'm a contrary bastard.

Even though I suck at TF2, I need to get on and play some more with you guys before the title moves out of the du jour stage.

I vote for sooner than this weekend if feasible, can we really not scrounge up 10 people on a weeknight? I know you fuckers don't have lives either.

I'm game for some late night bashing... I usually get on when you all are leaving and Prospero is the only one left with the F13 tag.

Actually have been playing more engineer and pyro, plus there is one map I had a ton of fun on as a scout, it was the big map with the staircase/boxes with 5 capture points, was great fun getting the other team to chase me down.

I can usually play after around 9:30 est. on weeknights, but not for 3 hour sessions.

I wanted to apologize to you gents for my abrupt bail out last night. My "super duper high dollar lasts forever" power supply took a major shit, complete with the dirty socks smell.

I was playing like absolute shit anyways, so was probably for the best. I'll be at the next one with bells on though.

We'll have HLTV working for the next scrim, I honestly didn't know what it was before!

And I only had 5 minutes to setup the server.

You don't need HLTV to record a demo. Your 4 spectators should've been recording demos while they were watching.

Yea, but then you only get it from the point of view of the person watching, whereas a HLTV allows the viewer to then change around as if they were watching a live match.

Apparently the player-recorded demos also allow you to swing the camera around.  I recorded a few minutes earlier tonight and am going to experiment.

Oh awesome.  Apparently HLTV just captures the entire match and you can go where you want at any point, though I suspect having a first person view of Fraglerock would due to show how we lost the scrim.  :-P

That's only if the server is recording the HLTV/SourceTV demo since it captures all the data packets but yeah that's a better idea.

I don't see how that's possible unless there's a config file setting you need to enable.

I think it limits you to viewing players that were close enough to you for your client to get the info about.  Also, it looks weird because it doesn't draw your player model in the right place; your HUD and first-person model follow the camera.  Not as useful as I was hoping.

Ditto.  Hell, I usually don't even think about going home until 7.   I got up a couple hours early this morning so I could cut out early this afternoon.

If I play like shit tonight I get to blame it on sleep deprivation.
