I know I was hatin on him at first, but I'm starting to realize that Ledger is pretty great with his voice (in other movies). Maybe he'll do somethin' cool here.

By all accounts, from reports from the set, and from the teaser trailer shown at a con, Ledger's doing a damn fine job as the Joker.  If that ends up being true, I'll be glad to have been wrong.

That thing is awesome. The Batmobile from the original movie was cool when I was ten, but the more realistic versions they have been using lately are much better.

Looking at those pictures, that BatCycle thing looks stupid to me... but, I when I saw pictures of the Batmobile from the previous movie, I thought it looked stupid as well.

This isn't Batman news, but it's related: Christian Bale has just been signed to star as John Connor in the next Terminator flick. I never felt like they needed to make a thrid one, but this is great news.

Oh, that's freakin' sweet --- I've been waiting for a "futuristic" Terminator flick since forever. After all that waiting, I was hoping the 3rd one was gonna be that... But this will do.

I sincerely hope they follow "No fate but what you make" to it's logical end and have Connor sending the Terminators back after his mother, then himself. Because without those experiences, he never would have been able to save the human race.

After the fucktastically bad Terminator 3, and the Sarah Conner Chronicles on TV, I can't reasonably award an  :awesome_for_real: to another Terminator movie, no matter how much Christian Bale there is.

Like the Batman reboot, could be wondrous if done right.

You just have to pretend that 3 didn't happen and, to be honest, most of 2 as well...

Uh, Sarah Connor Chronicles hasn't even aired yet. How can you have an opinion of it? The previews make it look pretty good at least.

DVD Screener of the pilot leaked. I enjoyed it, a lot.

My opinion is that, like the 3rd movie, it just didn't need to made. It's one of those things that it has to be extra double plus gud to make up for the fact that it's milking a franchise for money when narratively, the franchise has done all it needs to do.

Other than make movies in the future timeline. If Bale is definitely going to be doing a futuristic movie, I'll at least give that a chance, though T3 really makes it hard to give the franchise any leeway. If the TV series is decent, I'll come here and say so.

I still enjoyed T3 solely because of the "Wide-Load" sequence. God bless them for wasting all their money on that shit!

If you haven't seen the trailer for this being shown in front of "I Am Legend" you need to. Heath Ledger is making the Joker fucking creepy as hell, like serial killer creepy. This movie is going to own.

The stunt, where he lands on the car at the beginning of the trailer. Just curious. Seems simple, but I don't think I've seen it before... With a live body at least.

Looks like a straightforward replacement roof with crumple zones...

Either that or it's slowed down film after they fired Mr Bale from a cannon above camera so he hit the roof really fast and really hard.

Cool effect tho.

Most likely to be CG composite of heavy weight landing on car chassis and windows mixed with live action wire fall onto a blue screened box.  Means they could do multiple takes of the fall and landing itself without having to go through several rigged cars.  My bet is that the shattering glass, at least, is all CG.

Interesting. They were actually pretty old school about real stunts, sets, and models in the last film (just the gotham set alone is amazing). I think just a few things were CGI, like cityscape shots, the Wayne building... I wouldn't be surprised if a little gag like the above is more trouble than it's worth though, so maybe you're right.

Holy fuck, that 6 minutes of the film looks AWESOME.

So, watched the trailer and bootleg footage.  I think, based on a description of the same footage I read in a magazine or something somewhere, that that's the first few minutes of the film, so if so, it looks to be a great beginning.  Summer is too far away now. 

And I have to say, initially I was pretty skeptical of Heath Ledger being able to pull it off.  I was pretty damn wrong.  He looks to be owning the role.  I just hope they don't kill him off at the end of the movie. 

Yeah.  Chris Nolan was very keen to do as much as he could in the camera but even so, they had 300+ SFX shots, mostly done by an outfit called Double Negative.  A lot of what they did was touch up live action shots or do digital matte stuff (sunsets, mountains and Gotham cityscape).  Their showreel for Batman Begins is here (http://www.dneg.com/projects/batman_begins_16.html) and a shot breakdown of some of the pieces is here (http://www.fxguide.com/article262.html).  They're working on Dark Knight too so I'm guessing it'll be similar stuff.  They also did the SFX for Hot Fuzz - if you have a look at what they did for that then that's probably similar to what they did for this stunt.

Oh, and according to something I read over on imdb, there is no origin story for The Joker in the film which I think is actually a cool choice since a lot of such films get bogged down in that plot set-up.  Ledger also apparently went a little bonkers getting ready for this role as he holed himself up in a hotel room by himself for like a month. He says he tried to combine Sid Vicious with Alex de Large to create his performance. I am seriously getting geeked for this flick.

I think I read something about Ledger depriving himself of sleep while popping pharmaceuticals. He really seemed to have the voice for the part down also. Great stuff!

While the Joker's origin story is a good one, I'm fine with them eschewing the whole "must tell villain's origin" in this movie. After all, Hollywood can't resist connecting the villain's origin with the hero's, as if a villain needed that extra incentive to hate the hero. He's the Joker, he wants to kill everyone.

They explained everything with the line 'You Changed Everything'.

That's all Joker needed to say.

That's pretty much how Batman Begins ended too, isn't it? Can't be bothered to find quotes, but something about Gordon talking about an arms race with criminals... And the Joker being the answer to Batman.

The more I see of Heath Ledger as the Joker, the bigger the loss his death becomes. The (paraphrased) "This is my card" line struck me as hilarious.

The more I see of it, the closer I get to understanding what happened to him. It's a really disturbing character. I've read reports that playing his last few characters supposedly messed with his head. He wasn't coping or sleeping. He was prescribed drugs, and died of them.

I couldn't quite place it before, but I can now pinpoint who his portrayal reminds of.

Loved the movie.  The only problem I see is that kids who love Batman are going to want to see this movie, and it really isn't for young children.

I watched a lot of bad stuff as a kid also, but I think we're the exception rather than the rule. 

Also, assuming this ends up as a trilogy, the Dark Knight is very much the Empire Strikes Back of the franchise.
