Title: E3 2007
Post by: schild on July 10, 2007, 10:03:31 AM
As I get press releases, I'm just gonna post info here, feel free to talk about whatever in the thread.

XB360
Ace Combat 6 Demo on XBL
Blue Dragon Demo on XBL (thx Velorath)
-
Atlus
Atlus announces 2 rhythm games, a ds sequel and a Wii game (http://forums.f13.net/index.php?topic=10400.0).
-
Epic
Unreal 3 on the PS3 offers Mouse/Keyboard Support. Or so the rumors say right now.
-
Nintendo
So, Nintendo, in their infinite wisdom, have used their most famous designer - Shigeru Miyamoto - to make a fucking fitness game.
They showed a wheel for mario kart and a gun for other shit.
I don't even have words. Wii Fit. You bastards.
Mario has some kind of bee costume or some shit.
-
Playstation 3/Sony
New PSP. Slim. Faster. Stronger. Better. Probably not hackable for a while. Video out.
MGS4 worldwide simultaneous release. Exclusive.
More Little Big Planet shit.

So is this the E3 where Lum's MMO is finally announced? :)

Ok. The Microsoft E3 press conference was the worst bucket of shit ever. NEXT.

There was some cool shit announced among all the corporate handjobbing, however.

I just want to say, that at this moment, Nintendo AND Microsoft can suck my balls.

I missed the Rock Band demo, but the Assassin's Creed demo made me wee nipples hard. Also mentioned that Gears of War is coming the the PC, and there were lots of other games coming soon that looked good. It was enough that I had dreams about video games all night.

"Gaming & dumbed down shit for everyone" tm Nintendo

Actually, they might be capable of widening the audience, I can certainly see Wii Fit becoming popular. However, where's the games with depth larger than your average week long solo indie project? From the part I watched of the presentation the only game I saw seemed to be metroid.

More minigames for my Wii.  RedSteel is indeed looking like a good purchase.  This is fine since it just adds more fuel to the ADHD-fire that is compelling me to make my own game.  It's going to be a card game that would garner an AO rating based simply on language, possibly titled The Aristocards.  Take that, Nintendo.

Nintendo somehow made a less interesting conference than Microsoft. I've really never been so displeased with the useless spending of money as I am right now. All of their press is just So.... so.... inefficient and out of touch.

This is going to be a horrible E3. Sony could show a flash of colours and cause everyone in the audience to have a seizure and the press/fanboys will eat it up and claim Sony had the best press conference. Boo-urns to E3 sucking this year.

New Guncon, do tell.  My brief google just gets Guncon2.

EDIT: nevermind, I smartened up.

Looks terrible, I hope that's not the final.  Isn't MicroSoft coming out with something of about that form factor for halo 3?

EDIT FOR FUNNY:

Does it come with burlap sleeves, or are those sold separately?

So This:

Is that correct?

I am interested to hear exactly why. I'm not doubting you, Iit's just that the guncon 3 looks awkward.

They both look awkward, and I'm having Captain Power flashbacks.

Gotta love the nervous laugh in that Assassin's Creed demo when the dead guard is floating in the air.

New PSP is mildly interesting due to video-out ability.

Sonys press conference wasn't really super either, not much new in terms of software.  :|

I just heard through the grapevine that Sony and NCSoft are teaming up to bring NCSoft's stuff to PS3 and PSP.

Take that as you will.

Guns are made with symmetrical for a reason.  Isometric gripping of that guncon is going to result in a skewed aim depending on left hand strength.

Also it's a big fuck you to lefties.

Schild hates them for reasons I completely understand (even sympathise with) but Nintendo won, hands down.

Wii Fit will make money hats the likes of which even God has never seen.

I hope they design that thing for true American Fattys, though.  You just know some guy weighing four bills is going to  try to use that thing.  That in and of itself is comedy gold.

That wasn't "the grapevine." That was a giant slide at the press event.

Nintendo doesn't even belong at gaming shows anymore. Their planning division and Retro Studios might, but Wii fit isn't a motherfucking game. it's a Jane Fonda workout video. Nintendo didn't win anything in gaming as far as I'm concerned.

Thought Infamous looked interesting, at least.  And the Escher-lookin puzzle game, too.

I can not believe I just watched sony executives grilling virtual burgers in their sweet fake apartment.  I also can't believe they will let you send a picture from your cell phone to your Home account to hang on your wall - what could possibly go wrong?

Okay well, I was informed of it via word-of-IM from a fellow member of The Press. Grapevine.

The PSP Slim & Lite features a video-out port and new streamlined dimensions - it’s 33 percent lighter and 19 percent slimmer than the original version, is approx 189g in weight (weight of current model is approx.280g) and approx 18.6mm in thickness (thickness of current model is approx.23.0 mm). It will come in three main colours - “Piano Black”, “Ceramic White” and “Ice Silver”, plus three ‘pearlised light’ colors - “Felicia Blue”, “Lavender Purple” and “Rose Pink” - in what’s being called the “Blume series”.

Colors!

So then, I guess the real reason they toned down E3 this year was because they had nothing worth announcing?  I mean is there anything exciting in there that hadn't been announced years ago?

We've had E3's with less info, but there were fewer tits hanging around this one for fanbois to oogle. Also, fewer fanbois.

...Felicia Blue?

I liked the Rock Band announcements at the EA presser.

They got Metallica (hopefully old stuff), and they'll have entire albums as DLC. Weekly.

Maybe for the first few months.

Yeah, really... supposedly they'll have a 'board' to pick new songs, but we'll see how much money they're really throwing at this Rock Band project.

Speaking of which, new GH2 360 pack today.

Seems like it's been a bang up E3 for consoles, for PCs / MMOs not so much.

The karaoke looks pretty much the same as Karaoke Revolution. I'm not a huge fan of that particular system, but the drumming looks awesome.

The chances of a Wyld Stallyns-esque performance is high in just about every living room with that game methinks.

They need to sell a cardboard cutout of George Carlin to say "Eh, They get better" to put next to the couch.

Was there any redeeming quality to the show itself? I skipped it this year because I didn't think it worth the time nor money, and thus far I don't feel like I made a bad choice. There hasn't been a thing of interest covered that we didn't already know about.

Title: Re: E3 2007
Post by: WayAbvPar on July 18, 2007, 09:36:50 AM
This was the first E3 I followed on TV (G4), so it is hard to judge. It seemed like there were less games and less exciting announcements, but lots more hands on time with what was there. I am sick unto death of 'demos' consisting of nothing but a cinematic cutscene with absolutely no actual gameplay featured, however.

This E3 was a piece of dog shit. Ludium is more exciting - and one of the words I normally would not use to describe Ludium is... "exciting."

The Sony post-E3 news was more exciting to me than just about anything I saw during the "real thing".  I'd forgotten about White Knight Story, now I'm hoping to get a look at TGS.
