Title: Joost.com - Distributed Community TV Or Sommat
Post by: schild on May 06, 2007, 03:22:31 AM
http://joost.com/

Yea, so it's like TV that streams and has instant messaging laid over. Hopefully it will have loads of obscure shit and canceled shows.

This is me pandering for an invite. Anyone got one?

You can buy them on ebay for like two bucks.  It might be a trap, though.

My public service for today is:

Don't buy noncorporeal things on Ebay.

Evil Elvis, the point wasn't to get free TV. I have no problem whatsoever doing that. I actually want to see what Joost's software is about.

Can't help you there.  I'm not too interested in it.

You might be able to get an invite here though: http://digg.com/apple/Joost_goes_live_gets_unlimited_invites

I should really do the right thing and censor out any word associated with Gawker Media.

Free is a step in the right direction.

Unfortunately they're like 2 years behind on video quality. I'd rather watch shit on Youtube. Though it was nice to see Stella on demand.

This is another example of a well-funded company doing things half-assed. When they can provide video that rivals the quality of what I can download in a matter of minutes, then they'll have something.

I had no problem with it. The quality was just so so so so shitty.

Hahaha, "please tell us what YOU might have done to cause this error".  I've got to put that bit of attitude into all of my 500 internal server error messages from now on.

I tried it. Not much of a selection of interesting programs just in the first 20 minutes or so I looked at it.

Short, snarky, meaningless name.  Product concept seemingly arrived at via Mad Libs.  Oh yeah, this is going places.  There's nothing like watching small crappy renditions of old TV shows, and adding that new-fangled "instant messaging" technology is bound to make anything a hit.  Now you can watch Mama's Family while pretending to be Whoopi Goldberg in Jumpin' Jack Flash.

Whoopi Goldberg in Jumpin' Jack Flash.

Funny you should mention that. It was on last night on some satellite channel.
