Title: Fundies say the darndest things
Post by: bhodi on May 03, 2007, 11:33:36 AM
Everyone can laugh at this (http://bbs.shii.org/bb/files/top100.htm). This really isn't about religion, it's more like a sideshow. It's all comedy gold.
Quote
"No, everyone is born Christian. Only later in life do people choose to stray from Jesus and worship satan instead. Atheists have the greatest "cover" of all, they insist they believe in no god yet most polls done and the latest research indicates that they are actually a different sect of Muslims."
Quote
"I am a bit troubled. I believe my son has a girlfriend, because she left a dirty magazine with men in it under his bed. My son is only 16 and I really don't think he's ready to date yet. What's worse is that he's sneaking some girl to his room behind my back. I need help, God! I want my son to stop being so secretive!"
Quote
"[continuing his hard-on for the KJV]
If your original Hebrew disagrees with my original King James --- your original Hebrew is wrong. If your original Hebrew agrees with my original King James, your original Hebrew is right."
Quote
"But God don't talk in Arabic. He talks in a REAL language, namely, English. It's true that back in them days He translated that to some other language after Speaking it in English, but after all, it's His universe and He can do what He doggone well wants to do."
Quote
We Should show Christians that their religion shall not be tolerated. They should all be put in extermination camps and they shall die. And then they'll realize they have no soul and the bible is a bunch of crud."

The parent with the second quote is in for a nasty suprise. Sweet irony how he will wish it was a girl in a few years!  :-D

Edit: The one who thinks his sons girlfriend hides magazines with naked men under his bed.

Holy Fuck this site is gold.

Quote
This girl is like a leper so what she needs to do is try and find god

if she really believes she can be healed from this state, she will be healed from this state

Most afflictions like this are caused by sins committed while still inside the womb. If she can repent for what she does god will embrace her and make her as human as you or me but if she chooses not to she'll always be like this

god tests every one of us

Goddamn womb sinners.

Quote
I often debate with evolutionists because I believe that they are narrow mindedly and dogmatically accepting evolution without questioning it. I don't really care how God did what He did. I know He did it.

There really are no words after that.

A small percentage of atheistic intelligence bandits have somehow managed to manipulate their way into the hearts and minds of the general population.

"I AM here to be my husband's "personal maid" and to be "stuck in the house." I showed plenty of verses that showed that - the 31st chapter of Proverbs! Wives are to be a help meet for their husbands. I consider it a privilege to cook the meals, do the laundry, clean the house, rear the children, pick up clothes he may leave lying around, clean the kitchen counters after he makes a sandwich...... [...]

Yes, women have rights - the right to obey God's Word......."

I'm so very, very, very tempted to register at the "teens 4 christ" site that spawned this.  While there I'll explain that everyone saying that "it's ok for a woman to work outside of the home to support her family" are simply going against "God's Will" by trying to have more than they deserve.  Clearly, if all Daddy can afford is an 82 Datsun and a 2 room apartment, then they need to pray harder for forgivness of their wicked ways.   Those without a father?  Their mother is clearly a harlot or has committed some grievous sin, which is why god hides their patron-savior from her.  They deserve to live in the street until they repent.

Sooo tempting...

No, sorry:

These are so silly and out there that I find them hard to believe.

Except the KJV comments. There are plenty fundies who talk like that.

[EDIT] Though they do have their reasons for it. Not correct reasons, but the quotes are taken it out of context a bit.

I'll explain their point of view if you want.

See, the beauty is it wasn't debating what they were going to delete - which is God & Christianity.  The entire linked thread was ASKING, "is it ok, according to the Bible?"

But it's ok, anyway,  flipped a few pages down and it was actually worse than I came up with.  The brainwashing some of those poor girls have gotten is scary.

Yes, I do believe that a young lady should not go to college, get a job, etc. without her fathers consent. You are under your fathers roof, therefore you are under him in authority. Where in the Bible does it say that as soon as you turn 18, you need to move away from your parents, get a job, and begin your career?

Hmm? You dislike associating with other people why again?

I mean, it's not like everyone, or most, or even half that you come across would be that insane. Unless you're going to places (like that small white shack of a church down the highway...) where you increase your chance of finding them.

I guess I came off as "fuck religious people", and I don't really know how best to phrase my feelings on the subject.  I honestly wish I could express it in a nice, acceptable, intelligent, philosophical fashion, but I don't think I'm capable enough.

I just want to be a good person.  But there are a lot of bad people out there, either blatant or masquerading as good, and it makes it difficult for me to trust as a result.

I just have a hard time subscribing to a concept with no physical evidence.  I guess I don't "feel" religious, and am of the belief that it allows me to see through any bullshit that comes my way, be it political, religious, or otherwise.  I do like good arguments though, but I often have to see it with my own eyes to be convinced.

Wow, I had to google that but "debate" is in there, so are "whisperers".  Try to get them to whisper.  She just tossed in the part about sodomites though, that's not in there.  Nor are adulterers.

Haha.

Not just out of context. More like a completely archaic translation. They need to upgrade to the 21st century.

The greek word used in that passage is more of a catchall for busybodies and/or those prone to gossip and slandering people.

Eh, that might not actually be far off, if you replace "few" with "a lot of people I've met or read about."  Though, it's probably I just fucking hate stupidity / immaturity rather than hating someone for being human, and that if you come off as stupid (and I probably judge too quickly), I'll write you off.  I always have a hard time saying what about me is fact, because I'm always changing.

Lotta smart people here though!  :-D That's why I keep hanging around and reading all the threads in Politics, MMOG Discussion, and I guess now this forum!

Ah!  FSTDT!  I remember when it was a mere thread under the humor section over at Internet Infidels.  And I recall with a mixture of delight and dread the flamewars that led to some of the quotes.  Weird times.

Magus55 garnered a few listings but he actually went on to become a remarkably tolerant and inquisitive theist.  He wound up teaching me a thing or three about humility, particularly that his earlier hellfire-and-brimstone fundamentalism triggered shame in me because of my own childhood religious indoctrination and I tend to play out that shame by being combative when I perceive anyone being An Ass For Jesus.

No, in Mississippi, they don't restrict themselves to that white shack church down the highway. No, they are on every 2nd block with a big mega church, and they are in your workplace when you least expect (and could even be a boss), or worse, they are family members. Fuck me, some of these people are attracted to folks like me as if I was a shepple magnet.

It's not that scary that people believe this, because of the fecal-matter wallpaper people. It's scary that they believe it AND WILL SPEAK OF IT IN PUBLIC. The closet society has been trying to put homosexuals in for centuries? It needs to be cleaned out and filled with fundifarks.

I tried that argument years ago.  Doesn't seem to get me anywhere.

Them:  Do you beleive Jesus is your savior?

Me:  No the cross is a graven image and the 1st commandment says "NONE before me."

Them:  Usually some BS semantic argument about how the cross is an icon and not really a graven image.

Creationist Response: It's still a dog. It didn't become a bird or anything.

Admittedly, 200+ years of progress has forced creationists to consider anything below the family level as "microevolution". So, progress! :)

One big problem with the world today is that our population density ISN'T HIGH ENOUGH! (http://www.kgov.com/writings/stop_over_population)
Quote
In the Far East, Japan, at 830 people per square mile, has a much higher standard of living than countries liberals argue are over-populated such as China, at 315 and India at 700. Taiwan has one of the highest standards of living in the East, with 1,503 people per square mile, with five times the density as those of much lower prosperity on the mainland.

People are assets, not liabilities. Socialists and communists, however, since they must provide for so many helpless dependents, see people as consumers, rather than the producers most are. A few hundred years ago, famine was rampant in North America. Today, with a nearly thousand-fold increase in population, we not only feed ourselves but much of the left-wing world.

The problem with this idiot's train of thought is that he links population and high standards of living, lack of famine and so on. He's a friggin' moron with a political point to make. These countries have all of that stuff in spite of high population, not because of it. If anything, the causal relaitionship is inverse from what he is trying to say it is. High standards of living, lack of famine, etc leads to a higher population. Duh.

So, basically, all of the people cheering in the other thread are pretty much on the same page as the Phelpstards?

It's even more funny if you add in Larry Flint speaking very kindly about Falwell on Larry King, regarding Falwell's death, a few days back.

MY HEAD IS ON FIRE.

Well, keep in mind that they're saying he's in hell because he wasn't extreme enough in preaching bigotry and hatred.

Whereas a reasonable person might say he's in hell because he preached bigotry and hatred in the first place.

You might be on the same page, but they're reading it upside down.

Except that people who don't believe in God/heaven/hell saying that someone is in hell is funny.  Also, they're still on the same page of celebrating his death.

I didn't see anyone who doesn't believe in hell claiming that he's in hell, but I'll admit I didn't really follow that thread.

My reaction when I found out he died was the same reaction I had for Saddam Hussein's death:
"Enjoy nonexistence, douchebag."

But for Falwell it's just a bit more poignant.

I have a return question, though:
Would ti be wrong to celebrate the death of Osama Bin Laden if there were Muslim extremists also celebrating it because he "didn't go far enough"?

I just think it's wrong to celebrate anyone's death.

So yeah, it'd be wrong.  YMMV.

LYNCHBURG, Va. —  A 19-year-old Liberty University student was arrested late Monday night after Virginia cops found he had napalm-like devices that he may have been planning to use on protesters at Rev. Jerry Falwell's funeral, FOX News confirmed.

Mark Uhl, of northern Virginia, was found to have five devices in the trunk of his car that were described by the Campbell County Sheriff's Department as some type of "bomb" with detonation devices.

The cops were tipped off to the homemade bombs by a concerned member of Uhl's family.

Once officials found the devices, Uhl was taken into custody and interviewed. Cops said that Uhl admitted he planned to attend the funeral — which drew thousands on Tuesday — but gave no indication of intent to cause harm.

"At this time it is not believed that these devices were going to be used to interrupt the funeral services at Liberty University," Sheriff Terry E. Gaddy said in a statement.

However, ABC News reported that the 19-year-old told authorities he was making the bombs to stop protesters from disrupting the funeral.

The bombs were made from a combination of gasoline and detergent, ABC reported via a local law enforcement official. The official told ABC that the bombs were "slow burn" and would not have been very destructive.

Gaddy said that there were indications others were in involved in the process of making the devices and cops are still investigating those individuals with the assistance of the ATF, Virginia State Police and the FBI.

ABC reported three other suspects are currently being sought. One is a soldier from Ft. Benning and another is a high school student.

Falwell died last week after collapsing in his office at Liberty University. His doctor said Falwell had a heart condition and likely died of a heart rhythm abnormality. Falwell founded Liberty University in 1971.

The suspect is currently being held in Campbell County Adult Detention Center under no bond on charges of manufacturing an explosive device

Those protesters are causing a disruption.  Wait, I know what will calm things down, my homemade firebombs.

I have heard he was after the Phelps family. If so, the kid is a hero.
