Title: 360 Music Streaming Post by: Yegolev on April 28, 2007, 06:59:53 AM I stopped short of installing Zune on my PC. Scary! I do realized that this anecdote is from Killjoy, but it ate his computer. He's a special guy, but I wanted to get a feel for how real people have fared if anyone has tried this. It makes perfect sense because my PC has over 700GB of storage and my 360 has, what, a 5gb disk?
Title: Re: 360 Music Streaming Post by: Trippy on April 28, 2007, 07:28:37 AM Is there something wrong with Windows Media Player 11? Also the HD is 20 GB.
Title: Re: 360 Music Streaming Post by: vex on April 28, 2007, 07:43:54 AM If you don't like WMP11 then Windows Media Connect will also work. All my music and video is stored on a small ITX based server and WMP 11 would just use to many resources so I use WMC without any problems.

Also the HD is 20 GB. Realistically it's ~15. 5 is reserved for the OS and sundries.Title: Re: 360 Music Streaming Post by: Driakos on April 28, 2007, 11:36:01 AM I've got the Zune software on 3 different PC's. None eaten. It's pretty good.
Windows Media Player 11 crushed watching video clips in browsers. I can watch 3 seconds, then it stops. Uninstall didn't help. I had to wipe. WMP11 also wont play many of your old MP3s, quoting DRM beef or something. I just stream music from My Documents\My Music through my 360. It works fine. Sometimes I don't even know what the game's soundtrack sounds like. Title: Re: 360 Music Streaming Post by: Yegolev on April 28, 2007, 04:50:31 PM I just went to the link that the Xbox gave me and it led me to a Zune install. The posts so far lead me to believe that Zune would be good, mainly Driakos'. I don't have WMP11 installed now. But WMC appeals to the minimalist in me.
I was sort of joking about the drive, but you end up with 10GB free if mine is any indication. Title: Re: 360 Music Streaming Post by: Trippy on April 28, 2007, 11:38:57 PM The standalone WMC you'll have to search around for because MS no longer provides a download to it since its functionality put into WMP 11 and MS wants people to use it (cause you know, more DRM stuff) and Vista has it included.
Title: Re: 360 Music Streaming Post by: vex on April 29, 2007, 03:28:55 AM I guess I should have read my own link. It's also hosted here: http://tinyurl.com/38wl57 (http://tinyurl.com/38wl57)

Title: Re: 360 Music Streaming Post by: Chenghiz on April 29, 2007, 09:28:03 PM I was kind of annoyed that they didn't indicate anywhere on the site that you could just use WMP11.
Title: Re: 360 Music Streaming Post by: Hokers on April 30, 2007, 06:19:44 AM It has worked so well for me that I have retired my cd player and just do the streaming. It was a bit clunky to get going with setting up the folder sharing and the poor WMP interface (to create the playlists) but it does work well once set up. |
