Title: Screencap help needed
Post by: Azazel on April 17, 2007, 06:04:41 PM
It just occured to me, that while games such as EQ1 and WoW let you use a certain key such as Print Scrn (f13 FTW!) to take a screenshot which is automagically saved to a folder, I'm wondering if there's a function that can be used for the PC itself during normal routine operations?

I'm aware that you can Pint Scrn, then open up Photoshop/MS Paint/etc and paste, then save it as a new and seperate document, but is there a way you can just tap a keyboard shortcut and have it just save to where ever without having to go through the whole image editing software step? (and worry about that later)

FRAPs, Hypersnap (shit program), and Infranview I think can capture DX layer stuff with no problems.

Thanks. I had FRAPS at one brief point, but I think it wanted money. That may have been for video though?

What's infranview (and what's "DX layer stuff" mean?) Actually, can any of those capture stuff like streaming video? FRAPS I assume, but as I said, they want money.

Well, try hitting print screen while playing a video in Windows media player. Most capture programs don't capture DirectX layers. Some do. The ones he listed can. FRAPS being the best of them.

I forgot about that one. That works too I believe, but it watermarks everything if I recall.

If only Dave Rickey would update that old app I used in UO. Been so long I can't even remember it's name.

Downloaded FRAPS, unfortunately it refuses to work, though, even when I updated my drivers,

We use a program called PrintKey at work. You can take screen shots and save or print them. You can also draw a rectangle and only screenshot what's in the rectangle. It's quite useful for tech support work because the more savvy users screen shot the error messages they get and email them to us.

Ok, PrintKey now is $19.95.

Is there any good Free screenshot program for Vista? I want something that does what Macs have been doing forever: take a screenshot and save it automatically as a file. I had previously liked Quick Screen Capture, but they now want $24.95 for it and I just can't see how a one trick pony is worth the same price as some video games.
