Title: My hype meter pegged on this one! Post by: Gutboy Barrelhouse on April 11, 2007, 02:54:22 AM Cruising the MMORPG.com website I ran across this gem*.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________ I need beta testers for a new game I am working on. It is a mafia style RPG, and once you sign up you can PM other people, or talk on the forums, you can commit crimes to get money, you can train in the gym to get faster and be able to do crimes better, or you can train to get stronger so you can beat other people in fights, or you can mug people to get money. You can buy a house to get your "awake" up faster so that your training sessions are more fruitful. You can place bets for other people to take, and winner takes all the money. Plus if you are low on cash, you can check downtown and see if people left any money laying around. Also you can join gangs to get protection from stronger players. www.thegrpg.com ________________________________________________________________________________________________________ I am now going downtown to see if anyone has left money laying around, back soon. *Note that I have not gone to the website listed, so if you do the risk is on you. Title: Re: My hype meter pegged on this one! Post by: ajax34i on April 11, 2007, 12:45:28 PM Well, I've been thinking about the process of trying to wake up and get ready for work, RL, and how if that were emulated in a MMO, it would be right on par with what's expected of these games nowadays...
It all starts with a proper Alarm Clock trinket, do the quest for it asap! Then, you have to upgrade the house with a green, blue, or purple bathroom, and enchant it with the "stay clean" enchant (with the white glow). Then you need to grind for the coffee maker to drop, and farm mats for it, so you could speed up the regen on your "awake" bar. It's a lot of work, but once you have these three items all set up, and a proper Outfitter addon, you can easily do a 3-move combo for almost instant awake. Oh yeah, also remember, don't try to PvP the cops, if any, on your way to your grind area, "Downtown" or otherwise. Title: Re: My hype meter pegged on this one! Post by: WindupAtheist on April 16, 2007, 10:19:54 AM Hey everybody, now you can get a paid account for FREE! And also a... picture of... an overweight seventeen year old boy... in a thong? What the fuck? The following is attached to the top of every page.
Quote Do you love GRPG but don't want to pay money for an RM account? Get a free 15 day RM account in about 5 minutes! I signed up for a site called myYearbook. Its like myspace but way cooler. If i refer 5 people, I get a free thong. If you guys PM me your email, I will send you an invite. Then you check your e-mail, click on the link that is in there, and sign up for myYearbook using the same e-mail address as you sent me. Then register and activate your account (takes about 40 seconds total, I timed it). Then when you are done PM me to let me know you have done that and I will credit you with 15 free RM days. If I get 5 people to sign up, then when they send me the thong, I will take a picture of me wearing nothing but the thong, and upload it for you guys. You will be showing your support for this game by helping my get something free, you will get 15 free RM days, and it will only take about 5 minutes of your time total. Best of all you get to see a 20 pound overweight 17 year old who programmed this game in a thong, and whats better than that? Title: Re: My hype meter pegged on this one! Post by: publius on April 22, 2007, 07:42:16 PM So there I was, searching google for "thegrpg" to see if there are any results yet, when all of a sudden , I notice that someone made a post in a forum about grpg :) Hey, I am the
Quote precocious 16 year old who made GRPG. I know that Quote It's... well... terrible. but I am working on making it better. The thing that sets GRPG apart from other browser based rpgs is the fact that I (the programmer) actually pay attention to what players like and don't like about the game. This game was built only on what the players wanted, via the suggestions threads on the forum. Also, people actually post on the forums for GRPG (currently over 1300 posts) which is a vast amount for a game with only 200 some players :P Once the game is complete, where I and the community of GRPG players are satisfied and positive that there is nothing else to add to the game, it will be released open source for ANYONE to download and host on their server. This has been the goal since I first started the project, hence the name Generic RPG. It is so named because most of the mafia style rpgs out there are pretty much the same game but with different names and layouts, but they play the exact same. I figured that if everyone else is just going to clone a different game, I might as well save them the trouble by making it for them and letting everyone have the pleasure of hosting a completely unoriginal game on their site for profit.p.s. I laughed quite hard when I read this post. Quote It's... well... terrible. But for being the product of a high-school kid in Bumfuck, Washington, it's an admirable effort. He even has a little RMT microtransaction store where you can buy an uber gun for three dollars or a prostitute for fifty cents. His little web game has apparently been up for all of about three months, and he's already trying to sell virtual whores for real money. That's a kid with a future in the industry. Thanks for the complement about it being an admirable effort :)I'm kinda kidding, but not really. Title: Re: My hype meter pegged on this one! MyNeoCorp ProductionsTitle: Re: My hype meter pegged on this one! Post by: schild on April 22, 2007, 08:11:35 PM Man, that was pleasing. Youngest red name in the history of red names.
Title: Re: My hype meter pegged on this one! Post by: publius on April 22, 2007, 08:37:08 PM Ok, couple of things.
First off, I don't know what a red name is, but apparently it is a good thing so I am honored. Ahhhh, I see, it means you are a developer I take it? Second, after browsing these forums, I think this happens to be the greatest forum I have ever been too. and lastly, dunno if you guys are interested in how my company came to be, but just in case, I just now wrote this (now you can tell how little of a life I have to actually sit down and write a history about yourself, when you know damn well no one is going to read it :P) A fictious character once said "what is in a name". It turns out, the answer is quite a lot. It was originally called TurtleWare (I was 11, cut me some slack), and all I made was windows 98 themes. Then when one of the themes I made called "Midnight Blue" got over 500 downloads, I realized just how much I enjoyed having people like the stuff that I make, so I started getting into programming in VB6 and made some really crappy games. By then I was 13 or so, and realized how lame TurtleWare sounded, so I changed it to NeoCorp (due to my natural 13 year old obsession with unrealistic hacker movies such as "Hackers" and "The Net", but namely "The Matrix" which shamefully is still one of my favorite movies, but that is beside the point. I called it NeoCorp on account of my obsession with Neo) and started developing games in DirectX for VB6 I had some interesting games that people liked that were available on some sites like planetsourcecode.com. However, when I realized the limitations of making .exe games, as far as people getting to actually see them and use them, I got into website development. I picked up a php book one weekend in the summer, and by the end of the summer, I felt I was ready to start making browser based games. So, wanting to sound more professional, I wanted to buy a .com domain instead of the crappy free hosting I currently had at siteburg.com. I was going to buy www.neocorp.com, but same lame ass company that makes ropes (who needs a fucking site for a company that makes ropes, I mean seriously...) So instead, in godaddy's infinite wisdom, it suggested many different alternative names for my site, one of which was www.myneocorp.com. Desperate, I took it. It now had a personal touch to it, adding the word "my" the the front of my company name. I then later added productions to the end of it because I figured that every good company had a lame word after it, and ltd., llc, co., and inc. all sounded lame, and -mart seemed to be reserved for every goddamn department store ever made, I decided on productions. I then started working on some crappy virtual pet site, where I got like 200 people to sign up literally in the first 30 minutes, via spamming the neopets forums. I realized how lame virtual pets were and scrapped the project within the next week. I then worked on a game where you were a farmer. It was tilebased and you walked all over hell planting seeds, hoping to grow trees. Then when they finally grew, you had to be careful that someone else wasn't going to come over and chop down your trees and steal your wood while you werent looking. So you had to take the wood that you get, and whittle it into fences to protect your base. While I thought it was rather fun, it turned out to be an epic fail. So I worked on cloning a game called Vampire Online, which can be found at www.vampireonline.org. The one that I made was based off of it, but I added WAY more features. It was the first REAL success that I had, and I actually made my first real money from programming ever off that game. Some crazy lady donated $200 because she liked what I was doing and wanted to see me succeed. After she quit playing, I realized that I was beating a dead horse by continuing to work on my clone of it. The code was terrible sloppy and ran slow, so really, it was more like chopping the horses dick off and then slapping the horse about its face with its own dick. I then found a site called getacoder.com just recently, and I started to get back into programming after a year or so of PHP celibacy. I made about 400 bucks doing some freelancing projects, but I realized I just didn't get the same rush that I did when I made those first themes that for whatever reason people loved. So I went back to programming, and here I am with a new game, which turns out to be my most popular venture yet. If you are interested in seeing any more of my stuff, you can check out www.myneocorp.com which is my main site, or you can check out www.bourbanlegends.com for another project I am semi-working on where you post some "choose your own adventure" style adventures, just like the books. It has a lot of potential, but no one with creativity has posted anything there yet, its just a bunch of idiots who think they are creative geniuses. After reading the posts on these forums, I would love to see what would happen if some of you guys posted some stories, as they would actually be interesting. edit: removed "gay" references and sorted post into paragraphs Title: Re: My hype meter pegged on this one! Yeah, you could make axes and grief other people with them. Once your farming skill was high enough, you were able to plant higher level trees, and when you chopped them down, if your whittling level was high enough, you could whittle higher level axes using that wood. By the way, if anyone has any suggestions for how to make this game better, by all means let me know and I will add it. Also, if anyone wants to see the source code so that they comment on that, let me know and I can upload a zip of it. Elves can be pretty gangster. Just look at Shadowrun, you have very ganster looking elves. And dwarves. Title: Re: My hype meter pegged on this one! Post by: schild on April 24, 2007, 08:29:46 AM I guess, if you're calling it Generic RPG, it has to have elves. Or some other race with pointy ears.

You could call it GURPS for short! Title: Re: My hype meter pegged on this one! Post by: publius on April 24, 2007, 05:38:06 PM If there was some way way elves could be put into the game that actually made sense I would. But this is supposed to be a present-day mafia game. Throwing in elves wouldn't make much sense.
"After mugging og_wigga_4_life78, you run across an elf archer. You lose the roll for initiative. The elf gets first strike. He rolled an 8, but due to your armor class bonus, he misses. You pull out your SMG and let loose a spray of bullets, causing 4 HP of damage." It just doesn't work. :/ Title: Re: My hype meter pegged on this one! Post by: publius on April 24, 2007, 05:41:49 PM However, when Land of Valor is finished, there will be elves as a class you can pick. Plus LOV is going to be a lot more fun, since it is actually tile based so you have to walk around and explore different areas. It should be done within a month. I finished the map editor, so my friends are working on the maps, and coming up with weapon and item stats, etc.
