Title: If anyone is interested, guild setup on Silverlode! Post by: Chinchilla on April 03, 2007, 07:14:04 PM Not sure if some of you know know me. I was playing heavy duty with F13 on UO a little while back. Just wanted to let you guys know that we have a guild setup on LOTR online on the Silverlode server. Website is www.aciesinvictus.com , we also have a TS server if needed. Come on by and register if anyone is interested!
Edit: Forgot to add my characters. Drahcir Tanque Nino Title: Re: If anyone is interested, guild setup on Silverlode! Post by: Cheddar on April 03, 2007, 08:16:04 PM I can back up Chinchilla, he is good people. Send me information on what I need to know, Chinch. I am busy so will need a reminder!
F13 has TS, Vent, and IRC already. Heh. Too bad no ones uses them! Title: Re: If anyone is interested, guild setup on Silverlode! Post by: tazelbain on April 03, 2007, 09:07:02 PM Too bad no ones uses them! Except for the odd Galaxy drog every once in a while.Title: Re: If anyone is interested, guild setup on Silverlode! Post by: Sky on April 04, 2007, 01:48:03 PM No mic/headset/headphones. I'd have to buy something wireless and just can't work myself up to it.
Also, I'm on two servers in LotRO that aren't that one ;) Lastly, EQ2 pwns LotRO imo ;) Title: Re: If anyone is interested, guild setup on Silverlode! Post by: Chinchilla on April 04, 2007, 03:43:49 PM hehehehe been there done that with EQ2. I have decided that in fact SOE is horrible. I tried Vanguard and what a steaming pile of dung (I believe its due to SOE, but I could be wrong)! EQ2 might as well be called nerfs-a-lot. EQ2 sucks in my opinion. I played all the way up to that desert expansion that gave you the pet monkey (which I had). I was VERY dedicated to EQ2, but after all the nerfs like Harclave and warlocks and all that stupid shit... I gave up. Enough was enough.
Desert of Flames... that was the name. LOTRO > EQ2 in my opinion. Title: Re: If anyone is interested, guild setup on Silverlode! Post by: schild on April 06, 2007, 12:55:24 PM Blaming Vanguard on SOE is some of the most ridiculous lolsville bullshit I've ever seen.
Don't be a moron. EQ2 is 10x the game it used to be. I believe you might have been looking for the UO conversation. Title: Re: If anyone is interested, guild setup on Silverlode! Post by: Chinchilla on April 06, 2007, 03:44:46 PM Like I said... I could be wrong, BUT EQ2 did ruin the EQ2 I was playing. Now if they made up for making the game complete shit, then that's a different story, BUT I am not sure I want to return to the same company that ruined the game and basically told EVERYONE on the forums (I have a screenshot which I have got to find) that THEY know what THEY are doing in THEIR world.
Obviously they knew SOOO well that they had to nerfed Harclave to make it shit and nerf Warlocks, nerfed monks, list can go on.. Maybe it is good now, but I don't need to return to something like that. I LOVED EQ2, but then the shot me down. Maybe it wasn't SOE, but all that I know is that so far that's roughly 3 games all run by SOE that were good and then became shit. You tell me... how does that appear? Title: Re: If anyone is interested, guild setup on Silverlode! Post by: Sky on April 07, 2007, 08:56:24 AM Oh, I get it. They plugged your exploits.
*sploosh!* Title: Re: If anyone is interested, guild setup on Silverlode! Post by: Chinchilla on April 07, 2007, 09:43:04 PM Nerfing warlocks damage so it didn't exist anymore isn't an exploit. Making feign death basically useless (hardly worked against anything even light blue mobs) isn't an exploit. Making Harclave pointless to use or go to isn't an exploit. Making invisibility not work, changing how Illusionists play COMPLETELY, etc. Those aren't exploits. I hate people who say stupid shit like that. They are the ones that introduced Harclave like it was so they intended it that way. Now if they fucked up (which obviously they did) then that's their fault and not a game exploit.
Title: Re: If anyone is interested, guild setup on Silverlode! Post by: Falconeer on April 08, 2007, 02:21:25 AM Sorry but quitting over nerfs is a bit childish. Those nerfs improved the overall game, and all classes got one (or more) at a certain point.
Harclave it's completely another matter. It NEEDED to be nerfed, lots were asking for it. Except loner powerlevelers of course. Title: Re: If anyone is interested, guild setup on Silverlode! Post by: schild on April 08, 2007, 03:36:52 AM Quote from: Chinchilla whack, nerfbat. EQ2 is 10x the game it used to be. Let's be hypothetical and say that your complaints aren't an opinion. That you're stating fact and happen to be completely wrong. Actually, screw that, there's no reason to be hypothetical. You're wrong. Title: Re: If anyone is interested, guild setup on Silverlode! Post by: Venkman on April 08, 2007, 04:17:58 AM This is the essence of LoTRO right here. There's simply not enough interesting stuff to talk about, so every new thread about it devolves into a slap-fest over something completely unrelated.
Which is fun :) EQ2 is a fine game. It was barely ok at launch. It became much better after Pub 19. The EQ2 team deserves credit for first realizing that WoW kicked their ass all over the metaverse, second convincing their management of this fact, an third, convincing them to fund wholesale changes to both the core system and business model. Basically, they got humility, learned, and actioned. It's a better game today. If not for WoW it'd probably being doing almost as ok as the original EQ1. But with WoW it'll never be more than it is (like so many veteran dikus). And VG is closer to what EQ2 was at launch than what EQ2 is now. By miles. Title: Re: If anyone is interested, guild setup on Silverlode! Post by: Chinchilla on April 08, 2007, 03:43:35 PM Sorry but quitting over nerfs is a bit childish. Those nerfs improved the overall game, and all classes got one (or more) at a certain point. Harclave it's completely another matter. It NEEDED to be nerfed, lots were asking for it. Except loner powerlevelers of course. Childish how? They nerfed my class 4 times, and nerfed my friends and family like 2 - 3 times. And they weren't "better" nerfs. They were completely class altering nerfs that made you have to relearn the game all over again (playstyle wise). A company that can't make up their minds or at least own up to them fucking up doesn't deserve my money. Maybe it is better now. Maybe. BUT, I'm not gonna waste my time/money for them one day to do what they did before - "We know what WE are doing in OUR world." and drop another nerfbat somewhere. There comes a point when you gotta decide enough is enough. The PvP was dull and it just got plain tiresome. Harclave needed to be toned down with monster drops and such. It was a major cash/exp cow. BUT, toning down the fun factor of being a "god" or whatever was stupid. The last time I went to Harclave it was completely different and just another boring zone. Believe me... I am no power gamer/leveler. Title: Re: If anyone is interested, guild setup on Silverlode! Post by: Falconeer on April 08, 2007, 06:05:18 PM I was there too Chinchilla. I played EQ2 since launch day in November 2004 until May 2006, with just a 30 days break in April 2005 to try WoW with a RL friend.
I withstood the nerfs, the game altering changes, the first combat revamp, the second combat revamp.. I remember tons of guardians leaving the game after the first revamp, and then I remember rivers of tears out of any patch. I'll take back the "childish" cause even it's a bit too rude, but honestly I never cared about nerfs and I always thought they are usually for good. Yes, even when my class is the one interested. Actually, in such dull games like dikus I enjoy nerfs to my class as they give me the illusion of having to learn something new beside the mental macro I have to repeat 1000 times a day. I can respect your lack of love for a game and a developer that change the rules when the horses are already racing, but if the games is, to quote Schild (and many many many others) "10x the game it used to be" it's even thanks to the radical changes they made to your and my class too. I quit playing cause after 18 months I couldn't stand a single "Shield bash" more. MMORPG are known to have repetitive combats but EQ2 brings it to the next level. EQ1, just to throw in an example, with 1/10 of the skills and buttons available was way more complex and tactical. And yes, particle effects for spells and combat arts are greatly overdone, to the point that after more than a year of playing I had to turn off particles to avoid seizures or simply the evil desire of strangling myself. As I said million of times EQ2 is in my opinion the best overall diku MMORPG out there. Especially thanks to the changes and nerfs/improvements to classes and to underlying mechanics. It's just that the combat "doesn't play right". To get back on topic. I'd love to join you on Silverlode, but I am afraid us Euros can't play with you Americans. Once again Captain Divide saved the day. Meh.. Title: Re: If anyone is interested, guild setup on Silverlode! Post by: Venkman on April 08, 2007, 06:19:41 PM Everyone has their breaking point. It really doesn't matter what it is, because inevitably it's different for everyone. Often my own breaking point is an abstract sense of bleh, which was the case with every MMO since EQ1. UO I left when I knew I had done everything I was capable of doing, even going so far as to get rid of my stuff and *gasp* delete my character. EQ1 I returned to 8 times though because, typical of diku, no matter how high you've climbed, there's always another rung on the ladder.
If I stick with LoTRO through the week instead of playing/testing other stuff, I'll pre-order and maybe join ya on Silverlode. But I have my doubts I'll last that long. I'm waiting for the magic to kick in that matches the pretty I'm seeing. Title: Re: If anyone is interested, guild setup on Silverlode! Basically, they got humility, learned, and actioned. The EQ2 team realized the game sucked and were frantically trying to make wholesale changes to it even before it or WoW launched. Remember this gem (http://forums.f13.net/index.php?topic=1269.0)? (As an aside, I like how my cynical prediction came true and they ditched archetypes completely a year and a half later). Unfortunately for them they realized they had a problem late in beta instead of back in alpha or early beta. It's a better game today. Once again Captain Divide saved the day. Meh.. They actually removed that IP block. We pitched a royal fit on the beta forums and not sure if that did it, but coincidentally it was removed. So American and Euros can play together. I'm happy about that. You are probably right that its much better now. I may visit it one day. I always loved my 50 monk. But I have my doubts I'll last that long. I'm waiting for the magic to kick in that matches the pretty I'm seeing. If you find "teh majik" please let me know. I played a toon to 30 in early beta and never found anything beyond "teh pretty" before getiing smacked in the face by "teh post 30 grind". I agree with above; EQ2 is the best fantasy mmog available right now despite its wonky combat. After playing everything, I've gone back to CoH. There's something to be said for a game where the combat is fun and the character creation is rich and varied. Title: Re: If anyone is interested, guild setup on Silverlode! Post by: Xanthippe on April 09, 2007, 01:59:46 PM I'm playing on the server that begins with an E (joined some friends there). Xanthippe, Merrilea and Merri are my toons if anyone wants to look me up. Joined a new guild yesterday (Autumn and Spring) described as "for mature people with jobs and/or kids and/or other real life responsibilities who want to have fun playing." People seem nice.

Title: Re: If anyone is interested, guild setup on Silverlode! Post by: Falconeer on May 12, 2007, 03:57:46 PM Raids? So you hit endgame?
Please tell us about that! Title: Re: If anyone is interested, guild setup on Silverlode! Post by: Chinchilla on May 12, 2007, 05:50:25 PM Well not endgame type raids yet. I meant as in monster raids (took over a few keeps) and completing those hard Book quests (easier w/ raids). Book 1 and 2 are OK, but the later ones get tough.

I think the queues are artificial. Brandywine had them, then didn't. Now it only occasionally has them. I never had a number higher than 21. My guess is that they add them to servers with higher pops to force people to the lower pop servers. You'll notice that the recommended servers for newbies change from day to day. Title: Re: If anyone is interested, guild setup on Silverlode! Post by: hal on May 21, 2007, 04:18:15 PM Well 2 of us does not a fellowship make. So I will wait for others to chime in. I have played all classes to 8-9 ish. But PUG with a minstrel is the forth circle of hell. A fellowship would be sweet as 2 or more players allow you to roll through content. My highest is guardian (solos really well) but I would be more than willing to roll a minstrel if there was a need.

BTW, big thanks to Blizzard for letting my job be talking about computer games ever since their announcement. About half of my students have come out of the gaming closet, and now love me. And, the changing servers thing has been a problem for me. I've been on the fence, only to read the posts that while the "official" group may be in one place, scattered groups are jumping onto other servers, people start discussing moving or not, and finally I just say "FUCK IT". How long should I wait to figure out who will be where so I dont have to reroll or pay a transfer fee? If you're on another server, STFU. Because you're wrong. Some of us had guilds from beta. The reaction of much of the f13 community during beta was, "Meh." Hedging bets and rolling on a server with other folks you know is a smart thing, especially given the generally capricious nature of the f13 crowd. Any further discussion of whether other servers can be named in a silverlode guild thread will make this as lame as an official forum thread. TURBINE PLZ DON"T ADD RAIDS@#!!! Our newer members are leveling up nicely and we will soon have enough for The Rift. Lotsa of things going on and lotsa events. Feel free to check out our website and if you register on the forums please let me know as we have been getting spam bots from hell. We will be implementing new things to stop the spam bots, but while we figure those installations out and such just let me know so we can set you up if you register. Is it still pretty active? How are server pops doing? Title: Re: If anyone is interested, guild setup on Silverlode! Post by: Cheddar on July 03, 2008, 08:10:11 AM I am extremely tempted to come back. AOC is great as single player, but its multi player stinks. I miss LoTRO's PUGs.

Title: Re: If anyone is interested, guild setup on Silverlode! Post by: Sutro on July 28, 2008, 01:15:32 PM What I'm finding is that Turbine has a little bit different philosophy than other games. They don't push out a lot of content for LOTRO, but what they do produce is generally pretty good. I'm thinking that they're even aiming for the concept of marketing to the gamer that subscribes for 3-4 months, desubs, then comes back six or seven months later for a stint. Rinse and repeat.
It should say something that I'd been playing EQ2 for four months after my kin mass quit for AOC and boredom... then a couple weeks ago, within 15 minutes of our Glorious Leader sending out "OK, let's go farm the 'rog again," emails, I'd desubbed, resubbed, updated and entered game. -Sutro |
