Title: PC Games for 2007. Post by: Fabricated on March 20, 2007, 03:57:21 AM Too many pictures for me to even want to do a C&P job. Deal with it.
http://uk.gamespot.com/pages/forums/show_msgs.php?topic_id=24525221 Of course, I'm questioning how many of these will see the light of day, but there's a lot more coming out than I thought. Jagged Alliance 3 + Silent Storm creators? Yesplzkthx. Title: Re: PC Games for 2007. Post by: schild on March 20, 2007, 04:10:47 AM Top 5 games for me of 07?
1. Society (Serious.) 2. Battle Lord (Better not have StarForce or I will go apeshit.) 3. Portal 4. Metronome 5. UT3 Title: Re: PC Games for 2007. Post by: MrHat on March 20, 2007, 04:28:54 AM No TF2 Schild?
Title: Re: PC Games for 2007. Post by: stray on March 20, 2007, 04:52:18 AM Hmm, more things of interest to me than than I thought:
Tortuga UT3 HL2: Ep 2 TF2 Portal Spore SotSE JA3 Insecticide Metronome More Sam and Max stuff Vampyre Story Crysis Silent Hunter IV Heavy Rain Here's hoping at least one of those space sims turn out to be good too. [EDIT] OK, I'll admit that I'll probably buy AoC too. Maybe Fury. Maybe even STO, if it's released. :-D Title: Re: PC Games for 2007. Post by: eldaec on March 20, 2007, 05:03:53 AM There isn't much that really jumps out this year (no Total War after all), but lots of stuff worth considering. The reemergence of the space-fighter-game and the adventure-game is interesting, also, even more RTS games than usual, hopefully one of them will find something new to do with the genre.
Dropship I have half an eye on, though not for any rational reason. I suspect I'm still waiting for someone to do Laser Squad/X-com properly with modern production values. HL Episode 2 will get bought, not least for all the stuff that Valve likes to bundle. Obviously there is Warhammer, if Mythic can convince me that the game is worth the pain of GOA. Title: Re: PC Games for 2007. Post by: Stormwaltz on March 20, 2007, 10:10:54 AM My interests (not including games already released, or unlikely to ship this year):
Spore Sins of a Solar Empire Theater of War Pirates of the Burning Sea Project Offset Storm of War: Battle of Britain Spaceforce 2 (called Spaceforce - Rogue Universe since being signed by JoWood) Battlestar Galactica FS2 mod Knights of the Sky Bioshock STALKER Hearts of Iron II: Armageddon I also saw several things on that list that might be interesting, but I hadn't heard of before. It's interesting how many games are based on the works of "famous Russian authors" who are entirely unknown in the West. Title: Re: PC Games for 2007. Post by: Yoru on March 20, 2007, 11:02:51 AM Lots of cock being sucked here. (Ragnarok Online 2, "one of the best"? Really? Really?) Still, a good resource.
My pants are wet: Spore (duh) Sins of the Solar Empire Dragon Age POTBS Alliance They Hunger: Lost Souls Left 4 Dead Heavy Rain TF2/Portal My interest in piqued: Drakensang Enostaa Grafan Abbey Undercover (WW2 spy adventure game? Hell yah) Vampyre Story Sinking Island (Benoit Sokal! Wacky Frenchy fun) Eduardo the Samurai Toaster Black Sky Ascension Alpha Prime Collapse Alan Wake Metronome Title: Re: PC Games for 2007. Post by: Yegolev on March 20, 2007, 11:13:41 AM It's hard not to get excited when I read "Jagged Alliance 3". For the rest, I can probably avoid getting my hopes up... even for Bioshock and Society. Hey, I like Stardock, if nothing else. Also Sins of a Solar Empire. And Mythos, because Fate was lots of fun and the character system was great in my opinion.
The idea of HistWar is scary, but I'm glad those games exist even if I don't have the backbone to play them. I will probably get the Titan Quest expansion, but I'll feel used and dirty when I stop playing it a week later. Since I am going to get HL2:#, I guess I can get excited about TF2. Until I get killed into not liking it. Looking over that list, I'm now curious as to what awesome PC games I have managed to miss out on for the past two or three years. Of course, awesome is relative since I get excited about traditional isometric turn-based RPGs. Title: Re: PC Games for 2007. Post by: Sky on March 20, 2007, 12:28:38 PM 1. Spore
2. Dragon Age 3. Bioshock 4. Divine Divinity 2 5. Anything from the OpFlash guys 6. Crysis (Far Cry 2 as well?) I really got into Disciples 2 for a while a few years back, though I never got the expansions for it. Kinda bummed Strategy First seems to have handed off the franchise to a third party dev house. JA3 by the SS team? Oh hell yeah. I hope 'running on highly modified Silent Storm engine' means widescreen support. :x Sacred 2 should be fun. The 'sounds interesting' list: Pox Nora, Witcher, Dropship, Afterfall, Starfall, Offset (if they can make a game out of it), Enemy in Sight (Mafia was a cool game), Alliance, Tortuga, BSG, Assassin's Creed, Left4Dead, I'm just going to stop there. Tons of cool looking stuff in there. White Gold (and Precursors) also sounds interesting, did anyone here play Boiling Point? I'm not into adventure gaming (mostly the interface), but it looks like a veritable smorgasboard of adventure. Title: Re: PC Games for 2007. Post by: Fabricated on March 20, 2007, 02:03:07 PM Ahaha, the guy who made the original GTA series is making a GTA-ish MMO. That's NEVER coming out.
Title: Re: PC Games for 2007. Post by: Morfiend on March 20, 2007, 03:19:27 PM I would take a bet that 30% - 40% of the games on this list dont make it out this year.
Title: Re: PC Games for 2007. Post by: Bunk on March 20, 2007, 03:40:59 PM Ok, without reading anyone else's list, here's what on there that interests me off the top of my head:
Spore Hellgate: London Dragon Age (oh, hells yes) Star Trek Online (morbid curiosity) WAR Tabula Rasa? maybe... Portal - if its cheap or bundled HL:Ep2 Games I've never heard of but intrigue me: APB This shows me how far out of touch I am for keeping up with what's coming out. Title: Re: PC Games for 2007. Post by: Strazos on March 20, 2007, 07:42:42 PM I'm not going to make a list, because there was a shitton on that list that looked interesting to me. Even if it was only a screenshot.
I might buy about 3 games on that list, give or take. :| At least PC gaming isn't Quite dead yet. Title: Re: PC Games for 2007. Post by: Trippy on March 20, 2007, 07:54:14 PM That guy needs to check the release dates.
Title: Re: PC Games for 2007. Post by: Trippy on March 20, 2007, 08:53:24 PM Games I know something about that I'm looking forward to:
Huxley Bioshock Spore Age of Conan Games I know nothing (or almost nothing) about that look interesting: Galtrix - Reach for the Stars by SSG was the original Space 4x game and assuming they are the same ones making this game this could be very interesting. Sins of the Solar Empire - A more modern looking Space 4x. Also could be interesting. Infinity - Could this be the spiritual successor to Starflight? I.e. a space exploration game with a huge universe to explore. Starfall - Like Infinity with more RPG elements? Ascension - I loved Tribes before skiing ruined the game for me. Maybe this game can recapture some of that magic. Alliance - Very pretty screen shot :D Project Offset - The graphics engine looks amazing but I have no idea what the gameplay is going to be like. Sacred 2 - I enjoyed Sacred. Could this be the game Titan Quest tried to be? Society - No idea what this is about but we need more MMOs that aren't RPGs. Mythic Wars - Inspired by MoM? Hmm... Edit: typos Title: Re: PC Games for 2007. Post by: Sairon on March 21, 2007, 03:57:56 AM Intresting that a lot of people have Metronome on their list, since they're sitting in the same building as I. Last I heard they had problems getting a publisher to sign with them. They have a trailer which is pretty cool though. I don't know if the actual gameplay will turn fantastic, but the mood and art direction is pretty unique.
Title: Re: PC Games for 2007. Post by: Ironwood on March 21, 2007, 07:00:36 AM Apart from ongoing WoW, PC Gaming is dead to me.
Title: Re: PC Games for 2007. Post by: stray on March 21, 2007, 08:45:20 AM Damn. I thought I was tired of PC gaming....But even I made a list.
Are you being serious? Title: Re: PC Games for 2007. Post by: HaemishM on March 21, 2007, 09:46:20 AM Combat Misson: Shockforce
Mythic Wars Jagged Alliance 3 Theatre of War Dragon Age Dropship (Ex-Troika guys, SF turn-based game and Source Engine - more plz) Warhammer Online Pirates of the Burning Sea Armed Assault Project Offset Call of Juarez I've no idea if most of that list will make it in 2007 or at all. Title: Re: PC Games for 2007. Post by: Ironwood on March 21, 2007, 10:13:32 AM Damn. I thought I was tired of PC gaming....But even I made a list. Are you being serious? Yes. Totally. I'm fed up with my hobby being a job. I'd heard that Supreme Commander had some patches that didn't make it suck quite so much ass, so I went to do a reinstall. CRC Error after error. So I popped on a new Drive and tried again. It installed first time. Then I went to patch. Patch fucked up and made me uninstall. Tried again. CRC Errors on my new drive. Once I used a CRC checking tool to copy all down to the drive, I installed again. Downloaded a 'guaranteed' patch from the boards and it fucked up the isntallation again. Now do that around 20 more times TODAY ALONE and realise that you went through the same shit with both NWN2 and the other fucking game I can't even remember now because it too was a pile of buggy an untested shite that has a 100mb + patch and you slowly get a picture that amounts to a bunch of fucking pus seeping blood-cunts of the highest order. And, no, my machine is fine, cause I used Christine's only to find the same pile of shite. Currently, SC is installed and works fine, but unpatched. I know if I patch it, it'll break and if I don't, I won't like it. Fuck PC Gaming in it's ass. I'm buying a 360 and a copy of Dead Rising when my 5k bonus comes in and using my PC for WoW and Work. Real work. That pays me to do it, rather than the other way around. You cannot imagine my frustration right now.... Title: Re: PC Games for 2007. Post by: Rasix on March 21, 2007, 10:18:26 AM If giant robots somehow make it into JA3, I'm going to be very upset. Could be very, very cool though if done correctly.
I have no clue about 90% of what people are listing. I haven't even heard of these games. The things I've been looking forward to on the PC are mostly just Dragon Age and WAR (kinda). I plan on picking up a 360 this year so that will cover most of my non MMO gaming. POTBS and AOC I'm counting on being disasters or just plain disappointing. I'm just not going to drop a thousand bucks to upgrade my less than a year old rig to play any of this shit. I'm pissed that some games are already starting to struggle on it (granted, games that have pigish engines). Title: Re: PC Games for 2007. Post by: stray on March 21, 2007, 10:22:53 AM Yes. Totally. I'm fed up with my hobby being a job. Actually, I hear ya. It can be a hassle. I failed to mention earlier that whatever games on that list that are going to consoles will also be played on consoles by me (UT3, Assassin's Creed, Alan Wake, Heavy Rain, Bioshock, etc). Just for the very reasons you mentioned above. Title: Re: PC Games for 2007. Post by: HaemishM on March 21, 2007, 11:22:33 AM UT3? Why would you play that on a console? Of any of the cross console ports, that would be one to play on the PC.
Title: Re: PC Games for 2007. Post by: stray on March 21, 2007, 11:32:49 AM The PS3 version will have PC mod support, mouse and keyboard support, and will run it better than the machine I currently have (and don't plan on upgrading anytime soon).
The only reason I'd want UT3 on the PC at this point is if I planned on creating content. [EDIT] And last but not least, the consoles will probably have better matchmaking and servers to play on. Post by: HaemishM on March 21, 2007, 12:22:20 PM Stuff about PS3 version of UT3 You'll forgive me if I believe it when I see it. Title: Re: PC Games for 2007. Title: Re: PC Games for 2007. Post by: stray on March 21, 2007, 01:56:34 PM Stuff about PS3 version of UT3 You'll forgive me if I believe it when I see it. Sure, why not. Some explanations though: UE3 was one of the first things focused on, financed, and demoed by Sony while developing their hardware; UT3 reportedly had kb/m functionality at GDC; Mark Rein's a fanboi; and Epic already talked about the PS3's open content model and ability to use PC mods a long time ago (while contrasting it with Microsoft's DLC approval process). As for running better than the machine I have: Well... I have a 7600GT, and the PS3 basically has a 7800GTX + GPU power from the Cell + just more hardware efficiency in general than a PC. I don't feel like achieving the equivalent of that on a PC right now or in the near future. I'd end up paying out the ass. Also, since I have a PS3, I'm simply going to use it. To hell with buying some top end gaming PC for one game when I already have enough as it is. Title: Re: PC Games for 2007. It works.Title: Re: PC Games for 2007. Post by: Strazos on March 26, 2007, 02:48:29 PM I don't buy into it because, personally, I know I would find it uncomfortable. For me, nothing would be in the right place, it wouldn't be stable enoug.
Also, I don't have a couch in my room. Title: Re: PC Games for 2007. Post by: Ironwood on March 26, 2007, 03:06:22 PM This just in : Supreme Commander, even patched, still sucks donkeys.
Hint : A Zerg Rush is only funny when it's Zerg and when there are other viable tactics allowed/available. Fucking Idiots ruined it all. Title: Re: PC Games for 2007. Post by: Strazos on March 27, 2007, 03:25:03 PM You should return it and give the new Command and Conquer a shot.
Title: Re: PC Games for 2007. Post by: Ironwood on March 28, 2007, 01:11:06 AM But then what would I bitch about ?
 Title: Re: PC Games for 2007. Post by: schild on March 28, 2007, 01:17:45 AM Command and Conquer 3 is awesome. Completely worthy title to lift my ban for. I still think EA is a soulless devil, but they're making enough interesting, NEW games that I no longer feel the need to withhold my dollar. Still won't buy anything with an EA Sports tag though.
Spore, C&C3, Army of Two, Skate, Crysis, Half Life 2: Orange Box, Sims DS. Yea, I am OK with this. Enough to give them a chance. They don't get 3 chances like Square and Nintendo though. They fuck up, they're out for another decade. Title: Re: PC Games for 2007. Post by: Ironwood on March 28, 2007, 02:16:45 AM Wow, that Puzzle Quest Demo is rather awesome. Who'd have thought I'd have any interest in that Consoley Japana RPG shit ?
Title: Re: PC Games for 2007. Post by: Tebonas on March 28, 2007, 04:40:30 AM Ah, its one of those "I don't buy what I don't like" bans. What other people call normal consumer behaviour! 8-)
Title: Re: PC Games for 2007. Post by: Ironwood on March 28, 2007, 05:57:20 AM Schild admits to no explanation.
Not twice, anyway. Title: Re: PC Games for 2007. Post by: schild on March 28, 2007, 11:55:06 AM No Tebonas, I've skipped a shitload of games by EA over the better part of a decade I would've LIKED to buy. And would've LIKED playing. I didn't even "borrow them from the internet."
And yea, Puzzle Quest is awesome. And that Consoley Japananese RPG shit? Yea, it's GOOD. Shock. Awe. See, America makes a lot of shitty sports, action and shooter titles. Sometimes we make something that's gret. Japan makes SHITTONS of RPGs, most bad, but a good deal of them good. People don't like Japanese stuff because they don't like wading through shit to find gems or they are elitist pricks. Of course, there are some people - VERY FEW - who are simply too impatient to deal with RPGs. Though, many times, those people should be in the elitist prick pile anyway. Title: Re: PC Games for 2007. Post by: Sky on March 28, 2007, 12:07:31 PM Not liking the anime/manga/hentai/whatever style with the doe-eyed kids and whatnot makes people elitist pricks?
 Title: Re: PC Games for 2007. Post by: schild on March 28, 2007, 12:11:48 PM I'll take doe-eyed kids over the malformed genetic-mishap faces of Oblivion.
Title: Re: PC Games for 2007. Post by: stray on March 28, 2007, 12:17:31 PM There are a lot of different artists in Japan. Not all of them are the same.
Pretty much like it is on the rest of Planet Earth. Title: Re: PC Games for 2007. Post by: Sky on March 28, 2007, 12:46:58 PM I agree. I just don't like it in general, I'm sure there are a few specific things I'd enjoy. It's like rap music. I can't abide most of it, but there are a few genuinely talented artists.
And schild, you won't hear me defending Bethsoft's stuff. Morrowind's character generation was abysmally bad, I think of all the permutations I found one that I liked. I did have a bit better luck in Oblivion, but it took forever and didn't alleviate all the mutant npcs. But I don't like kids. I also don't dig Harry Potter stuff. Title: Re: PC Games for 2007. Post by: Stormwaltz on March 29, 2007, 09:28:48 AM I think I may have just shit myself. HOI2 owns my soul. I've had to force myself to uninstall that game so I could get my life back. It's already available, and for only a $5 download. Looks like one new feature, a revamp of some air combat code, and a "random" scenarios. Title: Re: PC Games for 2007.
