Title: Wiki now officially a real word, also 'asswipe' and 'zipperhead', apparently.

Quote from: the register
It's official: "wiki" is now a fully-fledged member of the English lexicon, according to the latest update of the online Oxford English Dictionary (OED).

.......

Other new boys in the OED include "asswipe", "bathorhodopsin", "claymation", "irritainment", "malware", "technopreneur" and "zipperhead". And just in case our pals across the channel think it's only they who are menaced by foreign imports, our beloved mother tongue now embraces "Bangla", "capoeira" and - by the Lord Harry and Saint George - "citron pressé" and "crème fraîche". ®

Malware, okay.

Caoiera, okay.

Cause those are things.

Wiki isn't a thing.  It's a name.  Like Coke.

Irritainment is a made-up word like infotainment, that isn't a real word.

What the fuck is bathorhodopsin, which I had to copy/paste instead of typing out?

Wikipedia is a proper noun certainly, but when you say, "I set up a shit wiki that nobody bar me and my cat will ever read or update", you are using the term as an improper noun, and so if wiki were a real word, it should go into dictionaries.

And as every schoolboy bio-physicist knows, Bathorhodopsin is a something that exists breifly when you irradiate Rhodopsin.

Quote from: The Biophysical Journal
Semiempirical molecular dynamics procedures are used to theoretically investigate the trajectories and quantum yields of the rhodopsin leads to bathorhodopsin and bathorhodopsin leads to rhodopsin photoisomerizations. The calculations are based on the semiclassical trajectory formalism and rhodopsin binding site model proposed by Birge and Hubbard (1980. J. Am. Chem. Soc. 102: 2195-2205). The rhodopsin leads to bathorhodopsin photoisomerization is predicted to occur in approximately 2.2 ps with a quantum yield of 0.62 in reasonable agreement with experiment (less than 6 ps, phi = 0.67). The bathorhodopsin leads to rhodopsin photoisomerization is predicted to occur in approximately 1.8 ps with a quantum yield of 0.48. The latter number is in good agreement with the observed quantum yield for cattle bathorhodopsin (phi = 0.5) but in poor agreement with the observed value for squid bathorhodopsin (phi = 0.36). Our calculations suggest that the observed photochemical preference of the chromophore in cattle bathorhodopsin to isomerize to form rhodopsin (phi = 0.5), instead of isorhodopsin (phi - 0.054), is associated with a significant out-of-plane distortion (9-17 degrees) of the 11,12-trans dihedral angle in the batho chromophore.

So that's that cleared up.

These OED folks are a bunch of fuckin' zipperheads.

Edit: Wait, does this still the slur for asians? Cuz the above comment doesn't make any sense if it is. I can't keep up with kids these days.

These OED folks are a bunch of fuckin' asswipes.

I have a chemistry degree and that was difficult to read.

"Irritainment is a word we've come up with that means something is so annoying, you can't stop watching it."

Linguabator: somebody who makes up idiotic words for self-serving reasons rather than to aid communication.

Win!

(Also, if something is annoying, shut it off you goddamn masochist and stop supporting shit TV.  You are what's wrong with the world.)

So whose picture goes next to "lingubation" in the dictionary?  I nominate Don King.  If you disagree, you probably have never heard him talk for more than ten seconds.

You are joking surely.
