Title: Supervolcano Post by: penfold on March 15, 2007, 01:54:09 PM Yellowstone Supervolcano is getting more active (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17629668/)
I suggest emigrating, and removing all assets from the world markets, or if you live close enough for the ash fall to directly affect you, enough smack to see you out with a smile. Of course, as its geology we're talking about here, 'overdue' and 'any day now' means anytime between tommorow and the next 20,000 years. It's worth keeping any eye on though. Hopefully it will cut down on the number of tourists there when I decide to go.
The show I watched last weekend said something more along the lines of the next supervolcano (mass extinction causing) being 2-5 hundred thousand years or so off. Title: Re: Supervolcano Post by: bhodi on March 15, 2007, 07:17:14 PM Yeah, seriously. When a supervolcano goes, it's an ELE.
There's nowhere you can run to, the entire earth will probably be fucked. It's on the order of "Shit you don't want to live through, and nothing you can do to prevent it", so I don't let it worry me. Title: Re: Supervolcano Post by: pxib on March 15, 2007, 08:47:11 PM Keep in mind that the last time that one went off an area the size of Ohio liquified and flowed all the way west to the Pacific.
