Title: Re: Far Cry Post by: Damn Dirty Ape on March 09, 2007, 08:16:21 PM New Rush! w00t! I listened to this earlier today. May 1st can't come soon enough for me. As the Japanese say, "Geddy Ree is supa bass praya numba one!"
Title: Re: Far Cry Post by: HaemishM on March 10, 2007, 11:55:30 AM Fuck yeah. The world needs more Rush albums.
Title: Re: Far Cry Post by: Nebu on March 10, 2007, 12:05:45 PM I own every Rush cd and dvd concert. I really like what I'm hearing in this sample. It's sounds like the p/g era.
Title: Re: Far Cry Post by: Damn Dirty Ape on March 10, 2007, 02:14:06 PM If the rumored tour dates are correct, I'll be seeing them in Charlotte in the middle of June. The first concert I attended was the Power Windows tour with Blue Oyster Cult opening. Despite being in the nose-bleeds, I had a blast.
The only weak Rush show I've seen was on the Roll The Bones tour. I thought Primus put on a better set as the warm-up band. Les Claypool obviously kicked Geddy in the ass when it came to bass playing as Geddy's delusions of being a keyboardist lost grip on the song writing afterwards. Counterparts to me, was one of their weakest albums, which means it was still about 100x better than other albums. The show was transcendently good, they just play that well live. Candlebox opened for them, and sucked so hard I fell asleep in my chair 3 times during their set. Rush came on and I rode a contact high for days.
EDIT: That single doth kicketh my ass. Title: Re: Far Cry Post by: Righ on March 12, 2007, 11:42:52 AM Sounds great, I think that actually getting together in a studio rather than exchanging tapes paid off. Peart name-checked Gavin Harrison (of Porcupine Tree, who I keep telling you folks to listen to) in several recent interviews as one of his favorite drummers, and it sounds like he's used some of his techniques here. A lot of love between the two bands at the moment - Lerxt plays an extended solo on the 18 minute epic centerpiece of PT's forthcoming album.
Tour dates for Rush appear to be coming out from ticket agencies, so we're getting a rough idea, even though they've yet to be confirmed: Jun. 13 - Nashville, TN @ Starwood Amphitheater (??) see here Jun. 15 - West Palm Beach, FL @ Sound Advice Amphitheater Jun. 16 - Tampa, FL @ Ford Amphitheater @ Florida State Fairgrounds Jun. 18 - Atlanta, GA @ HiFi Buys Amphitheater Jun. 19 - Charlotte, NC @ Verizon Wireless Amphitheater Jun. 27 - Mansfield, MA @ Tweeter Center Jun. 30 - Saratoga Springs, NY @ Saratoga Performing Arts Center Jul. 02 - Wantaugh, NY @ Jones Beach Amphitheater Jul. 04 - Darien Lake, NY @ Six Flags Jul. 07 - Homdel, NJ @ PNC Arts Center Jul. 09 - Uncasville, CT @ Mohegan Sun Arena Aug. 04 - Philadelphia, PA @ Tweeter Center Sep. 01 - CONFIRMED Cincinnati, OH @ Riverbend Music Center Oct. 16 - Rotterdam, Netherlands @ Ahoy' Rotterdam Oct. 17 - Rotterdam, Netherlands @ Ahoy' Rotterdam Title: Re: Far Cry Post by: Johny Cee on March 12, 2007, 07:51:43 PM The only weak Rush show I've seen was on the Roll The Bones tour. You got to see Rush and Primus in the same night? Bastard. Title: Re: Far Cry Post by: Tannhauser on March 23, 2007, 09:22:20 PM Heh I rushed here to make a Rush mention, thinking this thread was based on the game. Rush fans! I knew this was a cool site.
I've been a fan since Power Windows, first concert was Presto in Charlotte. I was 'medicated' when I saw it and it still remains the greatest concert EVAR. My friend and I always go to the Charlotte and Nashville shows but with them so close together this time I dunno. Both venues are great but I slightly prefer Starwood in Nashville. I think it's called something else now, who knows. They will have a hard time beating Vapor Trails, that stuff was....intense. Oh and maybe a couple of us can swig a brew before a show? Something to think about! Roll the Bones! Title: Re: Far Cry Post by: Trippy on March 23, 2007, 11:14:17 PM Full version of the tune here: Dang that file isn't there anymore. The Grace Under Pressure tour was the very first concert I ever went to, though I had started listening to Rush with Signals. I saw them twice during their Power Windows tour but missed them on their Hold the Fire tour. Definitely one of my favorite bands of all time.http://www.rush.com/resources/media/clip/f4rc5y.mp3 (http://www.rush.com/resources/media/clip/f4rc5y.mp3) Title: Re: Far Cry Post by: Damn Dirty Ape on March 24, 2007, 10:33:28 AM The tune is now available on iTunes and other legal download sites. Which is good because the one from rush.com was of teh sux quality in comparison.
I had originally planned to attend the Charlotte show but it looks like a Raleigh date has been added for June 18th, which will be lots more convenient for me. Dates are unofficial at the moment, but supposedly Monday will bring concrete concert listings on rush.com. Hopefully, this tour will have a full version of "A Passage to Bangkok". I was 'medicated' when I saw it and it still remains the greatest concert EVAR. I was at that show. Mr. Big opened for them and were way too loud. A guitar played with a power drill? Fuck off. Still, Rush put on one helluva show that night. I loved the dancing inflated bunnies during "Tom Sawyer". Title: Re: Far Cry Post by: Tannhauser on March 24, 2007, 04:02:59 PM Yeah those bunnies messed my friend up somewhat, he was worried that they were real. He was a little further gone than I was.
Small world. Title: Re: Far Cry Post by: Damn Dirty Ape on March 24, 2007, 06:40:34 PM lol
A friend back in the late '80s, while on LSD, shouted "THE FUCKING PIG!!!" and tried to hide under his chair during a Pink Floyd show when the inflated swine floated over the stage and out over the audience. Good times. Title: Re: Far Cry Post by: HaemishM on March 26, 2007, 09:16:04 AM Peart name-checked Gavin Harrison (of Porcupine Tree, who I keep telling you folks to listen to) Ok, so I checked out Porcupine Tree. Fuck, that is a good band. Deadwing is teh awesome. Title: Re: Far Cry Post by: Righ on March 26, 2007, 11:27:43 AM Ok, so I checked out Porcupine Tree. Fuck, that is a good band. Deadwing is teh awesome. Yep. "In Absentia" is even better, and I can hardly wait for next month's "Fear of a Blank Planet" which is going to have the 17 minute long "Anesthetize" featuring Alex Lifeson. It was incredible live last tour. No dates for you Southern folks in May/June, but they're coming back in September/October to hit the South and some other parts hey miss. The official Rush tour dates are now up: Quote Code: JUNE 2007 Title: Re: Far Cry Post by: Damn Dirty Ape on March 26, 2007, 12:50:25 PM A fairly indepth review of the album based on the Atlantic HQ preview conference. The mentionings of prog and space rock give me a warm fuzzy:

Now I'm bummed. Title: Re: Far Cry Post by: Damn Dirty Ape on April 23, 2007, 06:21:22 PM ARISE! THE NECROMANCER COMMANDS YOU!
Ok, I've listened to the whole Snakes and Arrows album. A friend sent me the files he pulled off of the prog usenet group. Since I have the CD *and* DVD pre-ordered, I don't feel too terribly guilty about getting a sneak peak at what's turning out to be one "Far Cry" is a bit deceptive in that it's more traditional Rush while the rest of the material breaks new ground for the boys. A bizarre mixture of acoustic, prog, blues, and a myriad of other stylings that they managed to tie together for some fantastic music. The three instrumentals are the highlights for me, particularly "Hope", a Lifeson acoustic piece. I've really missed that side of him. |
