Title: Cheap Laptops Post by: Evangolis on March 04, 2007, 08:03:38 PM Sorry, not what you want to read, just couldn't resist the title. You've heard the story before, the idea to design $100 hand powered laptops for third world children. Point is, the UI is getting press as being really innovative (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17402635/), having done away with the desktop idea for a more people-oriented metaphor, which makes sense if dealing with a furniture-optional culture.
Now I have to wonder how much one of these would cost in an unsubsidized version? I wouldn't mind a couple hundred for a durable, hand cranked laptop I could use anywhere, even if it just did .txt documents. I'm sorry. But that's a fucking desktop. If it smells like duck and tastes like duck, it doesn't need to look like duck to be duck. Cause then I could see why it's so cool. Title: Re: Cheap Laptops Post by: Nebu on March 05, 2007, 08:09:20 AM If you click on the little guy who is X'd out in the middle of the screen does it kill the user? Cause then I could see why it's so cool. /agree |
