Title: Re: Guatemalan potholes Post by: angry.bob on February 25, 2007, 01:30:33 PM Man, I want to know what's going on where a broken sewer main creates a 330' deep sinkhole. It's also depressing that a dozen "homes" fit in the part of that hole that wasn't taken up by the street. :? Even the poor in the US live well compared to many other places in the world.
It also reminds me of a sinkhole we had in downtown Columbus, Ohio about 20 years ago. The brick lining of a sewer main washed out and a few days later a sinkhole about that diameter happened in the middle of an intersection, but was only 30 feet deep. What made it so memorable was a lawyer got sick of waiting on all the "stupid" people holding him up, drove his Mercedes left of center through the intersection and right into the sinkhole. He then tried to sue the city, but I think it was thrown out.
