Title: Love Post by: Raging Turtle on February 09, 2007, 11:36:25 AM I found this on Reddit.com and I was amazed.
The pictures and article explain it much better than I can. She's a much stronger person than I think I'd be in her situation. The Story (http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/life_and_style/article1294008.ece) The wedding photo (http://www.worldpressphoto.com/index.php?option=com_photogallery&task=view&id=875&Itemid=146&bandwidth=high) - Not for the squeamish. Many more pictures, including what he looked like before (http://archive.reduxpictures.com/Production/PhotoGroupView.aspx?pbid=4&msa=1&pgid=6415897) I'm tempted to make several comments about the media and the war but I'd rather this didn't turn into a political thread. Title: Re: Love Post by: Lantyssa on February 09, 2007, 12:43:54 PM Those are two very special people.
Title: Re: Love Post by: Llava on February 09, 2007, 12:51:01 PM Good god.
I hope it works for them. Quote “Then doctors removed his ‘trake’ – the tracheostomy tube in his neck that had been feeding him when his lips were too burnt – and he said, ‘Renee, will you be my valentine?’ I cried.” His next words were: “Do you want to make out?” Title: Re: Love Post by: Riggswolfe on February 09, 2007, 01:17:23 PM There are honestly no words I can think of that will give enough credit to them.
Title: Re: Love Post by: Evil Elvis on February 09, 2007, 04:20:05 PM I don't know. The expression on her face in those wedding photos aren't exactly encouraging.
Points for trying, though. Title: Re: Love Post by: Margalis on February 09, 2007, 04:47:06 PM That photo looks like a deleted scene from Hellraiser 2.
Title: Re: Love Post by: Viin on February 09, 2007, 05:03:50 PM The picture with him in the hospital is particularly disturbing.
Really sucky. :( I hope it works out for them, but I bet it's going to be hard. Title: Re: Love Post by: Margalis on February 09, 2007, 06:07:45 PM My above comment was not meant to be dickish, just an observation. It seems like he has a positive attitude about the whole thing, which is very good.
Title: Re: Love Post by: schild on February 09, 2007, 06:31:43 PM So I saw this episode of the Sarah Silverman show this weekend. One of her friends on the show was getting a humanitarian award. And the whole show is basically about Sarah's ego, so she says that she took in a homeless guy. Now, the homeless guy ends up trying to kill her, but nonetheless she did take in a homeless guy.
I'm not saying this is like that. But that wedding photo shouldn't have been published. Title: Re: Love Post by: Llava on February 09, 2007, 06:35:15 PM Okay.
I didn't want to be the dick to point that out. But yeah. Not exactly a happy expression. Here's hoping it was just a bad picture. Title: Re: Love Post by: schild on February 09, 2007, 06:39:04 PM Women don't take bad wedding photos. OF ALL THE PHOTOS IN THE WORLD, that much prepping, that much work - you don't fuck up.
Title: Re: Love Post by: CmdrSlack on February 10, 2007, 08:44:28 AM Okay. I didn't want to be the dick to point that out. But yeah. Not exactly a happy expression. Here's hoping it was just a bad picture. Not dickish at all. My wife took one look at that photo and said, "What a bitch, at least she could have smiled." Title: Re: Love Post by: Damn Dirty Ape on February 10, 2007, 08:16:17 PM "What a bitch, at least she could have smiled." Yeah, I'd like to see the expressions of other wives of "Mission Accomplished" mangled men. Title: Re: Love Post by: CmdrSlack on February 10, 2007, 09:57:40 PM "What a bitch, at least she could have smiled." Yeah, I'd like to see the expressions of other wives of "Mission Accomplished" mangled men. Whatever, it was her response. I'm not really responsible for that, but hey, whatevs. ETA -- Maybe I misinterpreted the post. After talking to ye olde wife, she has mentioned that the rest of the photos associated with the article show a happier woman. Title: Re: Love Post by: Damn Dirty Ape on February 11, 2007, 07:12:52 AM I just thought it unfair to call the woman "a bitch" because she possibly couldn't maintain her happy face at a crucial moment. Weddings are tense occasions for most people, and the fact of the matter is the guy got fucked over royally and bares horrendous scars and a future of painful therapy and surgery to show for it. And I imagine that plus more was on his and her minds. Only problem is we can't judge his expression because his face is only vaguely recognizable.
Title: Re: Love Post by: Fabricated on February 11, 2007, 09:38:00 AM Man, I don't get it, there's no way that Marine can be done with all of his surgeries. There's a lot more they can do for that guy, especially with the skin grafts and lack of a nose. I've seen people with Treacher Collins get fixed to the point where you can't even tell they had it, there's no way this guy can't at least get this guy where he can go in public without a hat on and not catch a look.
Title: Re: Love Post by: Stephen Zepp on February 11, 2007, 02:58:43 PM You guys ever think the photographer said "ok guys, now do "serious faces"", and it turned out to be a shot they both liked?
Title: Re: Love Post by: schild on February 11, 2007, 03:13:31 PM Nope, thats crazy talk.
Title: Re: Love Post by: CmdrSlack on February 11, 2007, 08:32:50 PM You guys ever think the photographer said "ok guys, now do "serious faces"", and it turned out to be a shot they both liked? Were I the photog, I don't know if I'd be suggesting expressions at all. That's just way fertile ground for offending them both. Title: Re: Love Post by: Llava on February 12, 2007, 04:46:09 AM Man, I don't get it, there's no way that Marine can be done with all of his surgeries. I've seen people with Treacher Collins get fixed to the point where you can't even tell they had it, there's no way this guy can't at least get this guy where he can go in public without a hat on and not catch a look. It does mention he has more surgeries in the future, but he's not necessarily looking forward to dealing with even more than he's already had. Title: Re: Love Post by: Sky on February 12, 2007, 06:35:35 AM I wish those two and all like them the best in the world. I hope karma kicks in for the bitches leaving the wounded.
I especially hope karma kicks in for the assholes who put them in that situation, but it doesn't seem to work that way. PS: they'd be perfect for extreme home makeover Title: Re: Love Post by: Llava on February 12, 2007, 08:09:40 AM What would be great is if some asshole with a handsome enough face was forced to donate his head to this guy. The asshole would, of course, receive the damaged head in exchange.
I vote Russell Crowe. Title: Re: Love Post by: Damn Dirty Ape on February 12, 2007, 08:38:21 AM What would be great is if some asshole with a handsome enough face was forced to donate his head to this guy. The asshole would, of course, receive the damaged head in exchange. Combining your suggestion with Sky's desire for karmic justice: (http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2007/02/images/20070208-5_p020807pm-0227-477v.jpg) Edit: Brains should be left to their original owners. The guy was fucked over enough without having to be saddled with a fucktard's brain as well. Title: Re: Love Post by: Llava on February 12, 2007, 08:47:34 AM Well right.
Actually, it may be easier to just do the brain transplant, swap full bodies. Not sure that's fair, though, because Bush is so much older. Maybe Toby Keith (though I don't know much about him, maybe he's not as much of a douche as I've been led to believe). Title: Re: Love Post by: CmdrSlack on February 12, 2007, 09:38:03 AM I'm sure that I speak for most Chicagoans when I say that we'll gladly donate Rex Grossman to the cause.
Title: Re: Love Post by: WayAbvPar on February 12, 2007, 09:49:22 AM I just want to say that I hate this thread title. Every time I read it, the goddamned Love Boat theme starts up in my head.

It makes me think of the wedding scene in Princess Bride. I am not sure which is worse. Title: Re: Love Post by: Damn Dirty Ape on February 12, 2007, 10:03:00 AM Perhaps one of those bright young fellows on Fox News who crow about how good the war is for their stock portfolios but couldn't make it over to Iraq because they felt a sniffle coming on could be the donor. Sacrifice! Sacrifice! Sacrifice!
Title: Re: Love Post by: CmdrSlack on February 12, 2007, 02:00:30 PM No, no, no. They sacrifice by having to report the images of violence. We sacrifice because we have to see it on TV. Jeez, listen to your president from time to time.

If I must suffer, so must all. If I could only play a .wav of that fucking song to everyone each time they open this thread...   Title: Re: Love Post by: Furiously on February 12, 2007, 03:16:16 PM Here - I can help....

My band used to do a little barbershoppish trio thing, one of our favorite songs to sing was the love boat theme. Also, My Girl rearranged as My Dick. Title: Re: Love Post by: Damn Dirty Ape on February 13, 2007, 06:57:45 PM At first glance I thought that toy was saying BAAAL... Bhaal? Lord of Murder? Hmmm... Quote My band used to do a little barbershoppish trio thing, one of our favorite songs to sing was the love boat theme. Also, My Girl rearranged as My Dick. You're weird. Which results in creativity. I like it! |
