Title: Any ideas on long term little work money makers?
Post by: Reborne on January 28, 2007, 06:50:32 AM
As anyone on here that remembers me will tell you, I haven't been able to be on EVE solidly for a long long time.
I'm still skill training and working with a hope that eventually I'll be able to get back on and help you guys with stuff, but in the mean time I've burnt through most of the ISK I had stored to get new skills to keep training and I'm basically looking at having to bankrupt myself to keep training unless I can find a good way to earn money while I'm not able to be on.

The question is, is there anyway to make money slowly while I'm not actually playing the game?

I was thinking of buying BPOs and just working on improving them and selling copies. I'm sure this is being done though and so have no idea if there is a way to break into the market or if there is a better way of doing it.

I don't need great profit, just enough to buy new skills from time to time.

Thanks for the help.

You could do what I do and not do anything for money for a couple of months and then spend hours and hours making some money so that you can float for a couple of months.

Of course, that's probably why I'm broke most of the time.

The BPC thing can work pretty well (from what I hear), but takes a bit of cash to get started. You can always bet on futures by stockpiling certain commodities and then waiting for their prices to get higher. As long as the price goes up it takes no effort to gain a profit there - but then if it goes down you might have to hang on to them for a long time to break even.

It's also pretty easy to build ships, the only 'hard' part is gathering the minerals. But, if you pay enough for the mins the mins will come to you.

1. Get Industrial Ship, fit cargo expanders in all lows and a mining laser in a high slot
2. Go to .9 or 1.0 highsec (no rats).
3. Find the biggest scordite (quite valuable now because of pyerite prices) or other asteroid and turn on the laser
4. Go read a book.
5. Come back, unload cargo in station, refine, sell for profit.
6. Go to #3.

You won't make a ton of isk, but there's about 2 minutes of total work once you're set up.

Generally those "little work" schemes take quite a lot of time, unless you're natural multitasking guy. Even bpc thingy require sending your bpc to market hubs, putting them on markets and checking prices frequently to make sure you weren't outbid by 1 ISK by some asshole.

Viin:
Stockpiling things seems to be along the lines of what I'm looking for but I'd prefer a little more security. I've never been great at predicting the market unless I spend a bunch of time watching it.
I've thought about building ships myself but from what I hear you need to take them to lowsec to sell if you want to make a profit. I'm not on enough to keep informed on where big things are happening and so where would be good to set up shop at any given time.

Raging Turtle:
That his how I tend to make money when I'm able to have EVE running in the background :)
I'm more looking for something to earn me money when I can't have it running for long periods at all.

JoeTF:
I know that there are always going to be hitches with these ideas. I'm mainly trying to find out what is the best way to try this is. IF I find out that there is no best way then oh well.
The main goal is basically, do a bit of work from time to time and if in the month or so later when I can get on again there is more money in my account than when I logged off, I'll be happy.

Generally, find second and third tier markets (not Jita, Amarr, Oursaleart, or Rens).  Buy a fair amount of something that moves decent volume somewhere you can get it cheap (high end named weapons, commdities like Ice products or T2 components) and that shows a lot of volatility in the history graph for your target market.  Put it up for sale at an amount just under the historical 1-month high, on a 3 month order.  Do this for a lot of different things to spread your risk.

$12 for 100,000,000 ISK. Skip a trip to Starbucks and save yourself hours and hours of doing something that's not exactly whatever it is you do want to be doing.

So what you are saying is that you could make ISK faster by flipping burgers? ;)

Not a great deal considering $14.99 will buy you a 30 day timecards which currently sells for ~150mil on Eve-o, with no threat of banstick or having the money removed looming over you.

What im saying is, I make 50k a year at work, while making 6 bucks an hour ratting.

Honestly, in comparison to other games i've played a person actually could do decent for themselves sellin this crap.
