Title: Blame video games... Post by: sinij on January 17, 2007, 02:10:03 PM ‘Incredibly motivated' fourth grader takes flight (http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/story/RTGAM.20070117.wfourthgrade0117/BNStory/International/home)
Quote Lakewood, Wash. — A nine-year-old boy with a history of stealing cars and running away sneaked onto a plane bound for Texas, getting caught after flubbing an airport connection, officials said. Police pursued Semaj at speeds up to 144 kilometres an hour until he took an exit and the engine blew, after which the car went over a curb and coasted into a tree. He refused to come out of the car, so officers broke a window to unlock a door and immediately recognized him as a frequent runaway and car thief, Lt. Guttu said. Last month he also crashed a stolen car before being caught by police in Tacoma, and more recently he was caught in Seattle in a stolen car that had run out of gas, said his mother, Sakinah Booker. She believes he learned to drive from playing video games on a PlayStation. Lets all play blame video games game. Kid has talent, its a waste that its not channeled into something more appropriate due to lack of parenting. Title: Re: Blame video games... Post by: Samwise on January 17, 2007, 02:17:12 PM You can learn to drive from a Playstation? I wish I'd known that before I wasted all that time learning in an actual car.

At the very least, the mother needs to lose custody for being a totally incompetent parent. (assuming of course the kid isn't just a budding psychopath.)

I wish I'd known that before I wasted all that time learning in an actual car. I blame it on the auto companies. Surely they can come up with a more responsive control mechanism than dual analog sticks and a few buttons. Maybe some sort of motion sensitive device, modeled on the Wiimote.Title: Re: Blame video games... Post by: Roac on January 17, 2007, 06:58:06 PM You can learn to drive from a Playstation? I wish I'd known that before I wasted all that time learning in an actual car. I suspect that would be much more realistic than the plastic seats we were made to sit in while watching someone drive a car on a projection during driver's ed in highschool. Although I doubt even PS3 graphics can import the same level of stark terror gained by watching Red Asphalt 3. Title: Re: Blame video games... Post by: Murgos on January 18, 2007, 06:03:04 AM I'm sure he plays a lot of video games. Probably for the same reason he steals cars and sneaks across the country on airplanes. Imagination and curiosity.

His mom sounds like a complete dipshit who is totally unprepared for parenthood. Thanks for burdening society with your progeny, <insert incredibly offensive pejorative here>.
